Fishing for conger eel at our local venue, bitten by a conger hit target Fishing uk Isle of Wight

  • hey everyone,
    So I went out with my stepson on this one, and being as we really wanted to get him his first conger, we decided on our local venue of freshwater. Really enjoyable session, and got to try out a new rod, the Akios airpower 420 GTR. We both managed to get our target, not the biggest by any stretch, but target all the same. I also got a love bite from my conger. Lesson learnt there, keep fingers well away, even if they are small
    Hope you enjoy

    Hey Dylan, love your content. Here's a little hint. Get a meat tenderizer and beat your squid strips till almost clear, then bind it to your fish bait or crab, sand eel even shrimp. Two reasons, life like luster and releases more scent. (also you use less). found it to be quite successful along the welsh coast. good luck and laughter to you and yours, regards.

    Good video once again. Chuffed for Jacob getting his first conger.
    The GTR is a lovely rod to cast. If you're finding the tip a bit springy, lengthen your drop , then put the power in at the end of the cast.
    I do think we tend to be more tentative when the rod is not ours.
    Akios prototypes are cast by many anglers with different casting styles and abilities .
    Don't be afraid to give it some welly .

    Have you tried a continental style match rod? I have a 14ft 3oz casting weight rod and it's awesome. It's light enough that I can cast it all day, whippy enough that I can whack out a 3oz lead 150yds easy, but powerful enough to handle anything up to around 20lb.

    • @FrugalOutdoors
      @FrugalOutdoors  6 місяців тому

      Hey mate, I had the competition match st from tronix pro, which was great with the smaller leads, and would handle bigger leads aswell. But those types of rods, are a bit too soft for our tides here. I think for bream fishing in the summer they would be ok, with 4/5 Oz grippers, but most of my fishing is with 6oz grippers. I do want something a bit lighter for those breamy bassy days though👍🎣🎣

      I must admit, I prefer to use two rods at all times, even when bassing. I know the experts will say it should be one when bassing, and hold on to it, and I get that for some situations, but when you're just chucking a couple of baits out, the. I'm two all the way 🎣👍👍

    Can i just make an observation mate.to do with your rods as i think that you are not using fixed spool rods you're using multiplier rods which will reduce your casting distance and you technically are using them back to front.the reason i say it is because of the amount of eyes and their size .normally a fixed spool rod has fewer eyes and they are bigger on a fixed spool rod.nasty little eel that mate be careful with the bigger ones cos they'll take your finger right off.lol.

    • @FrugalOutdoors
      @FrugalOutdoors  6 місяців тому +1

      Hey Chris mate, I believe they are both hybrid rung, as in for both multiplier and fixed spool, I could be wrong on that though. I think the first eye is larger and slightly further away from the butt section to allow for a smoother line run. 👍🎣🎣

    • @chriskimber5729
      @chriskimber5729 6 місяців тому

      @@FrugalOutdoors ah right ok only wondering as apart from the eyes the strength of the rod when casting is on opposite sides with multiplier and fixed spool because as you know you hold the rod differently with each one.like i say was just an observation tight lines mate.👍👍
