  • What does solving a linear system mean? How do we find the solution to a linear system by graphing? In this lesson I will solve some basic linear equations by graphing and then will solve a word problem involving mixtures and one using distance speed and time using graphing skills.

Thank you very much Ms. Havrot! There is a small error in the second last question, the intersection point is (80,120) instead of (120,80).

    My dear Math Sensei @26:48 I found y=1.35, by substitution as you mentioned it; 1) x + y = 6 then x = 6 - y, if we replace the x in the second equation which is 70x + 50y = 393 it will be 70(6 - y) + 50y = 393 ↓ 420 - 70y + 50y = 393 ↓ 420 - 393 = 20y ↓ 27/20 = y therefore y= 1.35, if Pythagoras doesn't lie. 😅 Then x + y = 6 ↓ x = 6 - 1.35 therefore x = 4.65.

Good job! Definitely much more accurate than trying to use the graph, isn’t it?

thank you so much, also my grandpa is from kirkland lake, his name is Arthur Fong, it would be cool if you knew him :)

Kirkland Lake is a small place! I know OF your grandfather, but he was a bit older than me by probably 12 years?
He probably knew my dad Edward Havrot. He was the mayor of KL and also a member of parliament provincially for many years. : )

Could you be a little more specific about what question and at what time in the video you think there is a mistake?
If you are referring to (80, 120) vs (120, 80) I would remind you to read other comments as someone had politely asked about that a year ago.
