W ten chłodny, jesienny wieczór, mieszkańcy jednej z naddunajskich wiosek zbierają się na sedjance, by wspólnie spędzić czas przy tańcach i śpiewach. Ależ tu gwarno i wesoło! Mężczyźni popijają rakiję i szukają przyszłej żony, dziewczęta prezentują swoje umiejętności w robótkach ręcznych. Matka Latinki chce zeswatać córkę z Iliją, ta jednak nie chce wychodzić za wiejskiego zawadiakę, który pije najmocniejszą rakiję i najgłośniej pokrzykuje podczas tańca horo. Kosto, a ty nie zalecaj się już do Kany, bo ona i tak cię nie chce, choć pochodzisz z bogatej rodziny. Poszukaj szczęścia gdzie indziej, może porwie cię żwawe horo, w którym najszybsze obroty wywija złotooka Elena?

Act I: “Balkan Circle of Life”
Scene I: SEDYANKA: WINE, RAKIJA, and HANDICRAFTS
North Bulgaria
On this chilly autumn evening, people who live in one of the Danube villages gather on a sedyanka to spend time together enjoying the life, dancing, singing, and laughing. This is the time they can better get to know each other and find future wives and husbands.
Look how lively and cheerful this is ! Men are drinking rakija and observing young, beautiful girls sitting around. Girls are laughing and teasing, but at the same time showing off their skills in handicrafts.
Love is in the air :)
In the dark corner is Latinka, sitting there, she wants to find her love too. She knows that her mother wants to marry off her to Ilija, but Latinka doesn't want to marry a local country bumpkin who drinks the strongest rakija and shouts the loudest during the horo dance!
But look what is happening on the other side of that place! Kosto is trying to get Kana’s attention … Kosto, stop flirting with Kana! She doesn’t want you anymore and your rich family doesn’t help here. You should try to find love elsewhere, look around, there are so many beautiful girls, one of them certainly would like to dance with you. Perhaps golden-eyed Elena?
Kosto, lively horo just started, and Elena whirls the fastest spins, join her, and show how great dancer you are…
