Ooh you've got my attention I have both only run a Savage Worlds game set in the Sundered Isles or rather Lost in Hell which was interesting. Not so sure despite picking up the Pathfinder version of this so very interested in this review!
As a GM/sometimes player I prefer the core rules plus the new Fantasy Companion. The big difference is that in Pathfinder you have those "Class Edges" that, in addition to being overpowered compared to a regular edge, basically port Pathfinder classes into Savage Worlds. I know that is the point and it will probably go a long way to convert 5E/Pathfinder players to Savage Worlds, but it also loses some of the absolute freedom you feel in creating a character in core Savage Worlds. But I also understand that since Pathfinder exists, it will have a bigger audience built-in, even among my players.
I can understand that. I have mixed feelings myself on the Pathfinder, but overall my players are excited for it. Comparing Fantasy + Core to Pathfinder Core + Advanced Player's Guide is something I want to do in a future video.
I really enjoy how much SWADEPF has helped flesh out a lot of the new companions and has added some more standardization to SWADE. But, I feel like the PF version is way too close to PF2e or d20 systems and kinda removes whats unique about SWADE by foisting the Class edges. I'm mildly concerned a lot of new folks are gonna assume SWADEPF is standard SWADE, but I know thats an irrational concern.
I have both. SW PF is good if you want to have a PF / DnD experience mixed with SW. I usually use it for one shots in DnD settings like Planescape, Ravenloft or Dark Sun. But you will also be stuck with classes and a higher power level and a ton of spellcasters. SWADE Core + Fantasy Companion remains as classless as Savage World usually is. It produces less overpowered charakters. And it is more adaptable. I will soon start a campaign in a home brew world where only a few arcane backgrounds exist and the races are completely retailored to fit the setting and campaign better. And I prefer the arcane backgrounds in the Fantasy Companion over the arcane classes in SWPF every day of the week.
3:31. You listed Lankhmar in your list of "another other kind of non-fantasy games." Uhm... Lankhmar is literally a 100% fantasy setting. It's just a no non-human and low magic setting, but it's still fantasy.
I am eyeballing SW Pathfinder. I have been playing since 1st Edition. After 2nd edition, and then Remaster I am having some edition fatigue from Paizo... I have spent way too much money to reinvest in Remaster... So I am contemplating Savage Worlds Pathfinder as a way to keep using my lore knowledge with a system that seems more GM friendly than 1e and not a reinvestment into 2e remaster.
Loveyour presentation of this content...your talking to fast though. Made it hard to follow. I cant believe how amazing your picture quality is....what are you using?!?!?!?!?!
@@TheSavageGoose Actually, I should have noticed at the beginning of your video that you provided that Savage Worlds used the first edition of Pathfinder.
From what I read Savage Pathfinder was written using the last edition of Savage Worlds and no the newer version aka SWADE.. There are differences in the 2 core rules due to this.
Nah. Pathfinder for Savage Worlds is definitely based on SWADE. The way the action economy works, the lack of Charisma, etc., all work like SWAdE, not Deluxe/Explorer's Edition.
@@TheSavageGoose it's easy to get nervous and feel rushed. Just remember, people are watching because they actually want to hear what you have to say. Also, convince yourself that what you have to say is important. Because it is!
I wouldn't say it is nervousness. I have plent of public speaking experience. Partcularly when recording UA-cam videos it is more than I have said it like 5 times, messing up, and have it almost memorized and so it I end up saying it faster. I could really use one of those teleprompters one of these days. But thanks so much for the compliments and encouragement.

Wow, short, informative and straight to the point. I like it!
Dig it. Buy both 😎
Im coming back to savage worlds after a 10+ year break. this vid was very helpful, thanks!
That's awesome! I hope future videos will be helpful as well!
Great video man, its great how short it is
Glad you liked it

i have most of savage worlds id probably say savage pathfinder and savage rifts are great but the core is better if you dont want to go with fantasy
So get both books. Got it.

Shhh... I was hoping nobody would notice. ;) I grabbed all the covers I could think of when editing and didn't think things through.
@@TheSavageGoose But that does not affect your point, you still use SWADE for Lankhmar not SWPF :)
What if I'd like to run a fantasy style game not set in the world of Pathfinder?
I'd recommend core + fantasy companion.
@@TheSavageGoose Thanks, I'll look into it.

Sony ZV-E10 is the camera I use.
If you enjoy doing math during your game, Pathfinder. If you'd rather not math, Savage Worlds. You're welcome.
Do you think Pathfinder for Savage Worlds has more math, or do you mean base Pathfinder?
Not bad. I have to admit, you continually saying Galorion instead of the correct Golarion was pretty distracting though.
One of things I've only ever read and no one has told me I was wrong the way I said it
@@TheSavageGoose yeah, it's no big deal. But you reversed the vowels.
This doesn't provide the Second Edition. So...
The second edition of what?
