We really appreciate the deep dive! Constructive criticism and all. It was a massive project that had to account for a lot of different genres / tropes / ideas on fantasy, which is always tricky. Thanks!

@@DMTalesTTRPGI would assume that is indeed Shane Lacy Hensley replying to you. He is the original creator of Deadlands which over the years morphed into Savage Worlds. A very cool and creative dude!

I can’t say enough good things about the folks who work at PEGinc. Beyond gracious.

Did this ever release physical? Been checking my local store about twice per month but they have t gotten it. None in Amazon. None in eBay and a general Google seems to just turn up the old version

"book ribbons..." Same. I felt the same way. AND, being different colors is a nice touch.

The new printing of the SWADE core book will have book ribbons…

Okay, I love how you focus on the visual presentation of the book's contents: page color, heading titles, chapter titles, blurbs, excerpts, and examples. It is a great review of the book itself.

Thanks! It’s something that fascinates me so I’m pleased when people find it interesting!

It’s a great book. That being said, I’m thinking about running a sword and sorcery campaign which I can easily run with just the core rules. But for higher fantasy, this is perfect.

Fantastic review! As to world building, I will point out that they already have a book that goes into more detail on that subject and more, it’s the World Builder & Game Master’s Guide. While it’s not fantasy specific, it has a wealth of information for any GM.

Awesome video! I was really excited when I saw you were taking a look at this one. I've been holding off on picking this up, but your video got me excited, I think I'll pull the trigger on it.

Holy hell that's a lot of ancestries!! hahahh Always love your analysis of the layout, fonts used, outline effects etc - very interesting!

It is a LOT of ancestries!
And thanks. I’m thinking of moving that portion of my review back to the end, since I’ve got folks jumping off before it’s done. But it’s one of my favorite bits of what I do so….

Great review, and I would love to hear about anyone's experience with SW vs Chaosium's BRP. The two seem very similar in approach, but I have yet to see any comparisons on YT. Looking forward to more SWADE videos on your channel. 🍻

One day I will have to get BRP.

    • @danielward7747
      @danielward7747 11 місяців тому +3

Used both. BRP is more of a simulation. SW is more loose and less detailed. If you like slow paced high RP then BRP is better. If you like more lose rules then SW works. If you like games where PC's can die or get maimed then BRP (CoC / RQ) if not then SW, My two favorites. Although M&M / True 20 rates high also.

Looks interesting, although I heard calm worlds is more relaxing.

I think 5es only real problem with ancestries, is that 95% are dragged down by Jeremys awful writing style.

I hadn’t found it that bad, to be honest.

Great review! I always appreciate how you go in-depth into things like the construction of the book and talk about the layout and design.
I have the original Fantasy Companion for the Explorer's Edition but this looks to be far superior in both content and construction. Since we're currently playing Savage Worlds for Pathfinder, this would probably be redundant for me right now but I'd definitely pick it up were we to move to a more generic fantasy game.

Glad you enjoyed it! I’ve got the PDF of the first companion, but haven’t looked at it yet.
