They did ask for another dollar, they upped the price of the base game from 30 dollars to 35 because of "inflation" or something, even though they have a no sale policy and they said in the past they won't ever change the price
@@SaadTheGlad I think they always said no sales ever, they also upped the price prior to 1.0 but for most players they have spent more on power to play factorio then they have spent on factorio itself!
Yeah, I expect to get slightly less return on my investment from the Space Age purchase, probably (maybe it'll cost me 5-10 cents per hour of play ($0.05-$0.10/hr), instead of closer to 1 cent ($0.01/hr), for example), but I still think it'll be a DARN good deal, and I'll be happy to support a team that's clearly put so much work into improving this wonderful little game over time. I _might_ delay my purchase, just to play with 2.0 all on its own a while, but I definitely expect to pay for the DLC.
@@SaadTheGlad So your problem is basically that they mentioned inflation? Really? I find this whole discussion absurd. Wube did a good job. The dlc provides more content than most dlcs ever do. In my opinion the price content ratio for the dlc is so much better than almost any game I have ever played and seen. Wube has earned to make some good money from it. Especially if you consider how many hundreds to thousands of hours players have played that game and thus their money was well invested. Normally a game wouldnt even get such a great update (factorio 2.0 without dlc).
got 4000+ hours in factorio i got the game for 5$ back in beta time, i have played it on off ever since. everytime i do i get 2-300+ gametime. So even if the game was 100$ i would buy it without blinking. My favorite game of all my 400+ steam games. Pretty much boils down to if you like the added mechanics with the planets. I don't, as it doesn't fit with why I play the game, so to me it's not worth the extra 35$, but if you really like them, it's probably worth it 🤔 Likely one of those, "Look at some videos and let's plays to figure out what exactly the new mechanics are" before you buy... but that's something you should do before buying ANY game 🤔
A slight correction the big mining drill doesn’t have 50% productivity built in, it depletes patches at a rate of 50% so for every ore you mine you actually get 2 ores
I would buy for combinator upgrades alone. Or elevated rails. Getting all those.. man, I feel like a kid before Christmas. Almost counting hours to release :3
I've literally got a countdown going based on a guess at release time... does anyone know the actual time of release yet? I've seen speculation of 1PM CEST, as being when the FFFs come out... which means 3 days, 12:55:59 to go, as of a moment in time during the time when I drafted (not to say posted) this comment. :D But I don't know if that's right! Regardless, much hype!
@@DavidLindes I'm not sure about this by all means, but "vojtykcz factorio expansion countdown" is consistent with what I read somewhere from a team member suggesting that "probably during lunch time/noon" or something along those lines, so counting hours to noon 😬
@@edvardm4348 Hmm. That countdown shows 5 hours later than what I have, based on the 1pm CEST thing. Other countdowns I've found show lower numbers. Nowhere have I seen anything official from Wube. I think I'll stick to my current estimate, and hope for the best. A recent report from my countdown: 2 days, 10:05:14 to go (of course, some seconds passed between me copying that and me sending this message, so... it says less than that, now, but close enough for comment/hype purposes. ;))
It's almost puzzling how people can even ask the question The DLC is already worth it just as a "thank you for all the free amazing updates" donation -- but even if you're much more pragmatic about spending your money, if you read just a few articles on the blog you know how much work and love and attention to detail was poured into this expansion.
If you consider the money to playtime ratio alone I would suggest that the dlc is very much worth it. In addition the quality of life that you get makes it even more so
Been too long since I was hyped about a game. And this is just a flipping expansion of a game?! Good times. This is the best "spoiler-balance" out of all the SA videos I've seen as well so double thanks for that! I don't care about spoilers but if you do, this one I'd consider good! Mostly informational.
Because this is one of the only games that have trains. That actually do something. Also plan just to spend ours making a rail network on the starting planet. Just because.
I don’t complain for any game to ask for $50 for a DLC after playing 1000 hours and get more and better content. I payed for it in early access during a crazy cheap sale, before I ever played a factory game. Then I was hooked.
@12:50 That solar power numbers seem to be the same as in base game. I understood that you need another source for the heating pipes but power wise that's the same o_0. Also can you use Solar on the other planets - inefficent as it may be?
if they released a anniversary edition with no extra content i would just pay it at tis point. i paid i think 15€ back in the day and have played well over 3k h
Nope they are not limited in size we have already visited the edge on Vulcans to see that a Big worm looked like.... then we ran home as fast as we could!
Average player spent time in the current game is around 100h. And since its going to cost 30$ its 30 cents per hour of playtime. What kind of other fun you can pay for where its going to be this cheap? And that is average, lot of people spent way more in there.
@@vasianduban9995 I'm guessing it's either the same number and the currency is just different, otherwise it might be region pricing or currency exchange rates
I'll probably not going to buy it. From what I understand they move alot of already existing tech to needing the other planets, sometimes in nonsensical ways. Cliff destroying explosives need you to go to Vulcanus (iirc), so the game is telling me that I can make and launch several rockets + making a spaceship/platform, but demolishing a small cliff is beyond my means? It just doesn't make much sense 🤔 I just don't see the big point of buying it, when there are mods that do most of the things the dlc does, probably better in some cases 😊
I have about 3000 hours in factorio. Have to be honest space exploration is a better way to go. It's free and seems to be better put together and thought through. It has ships and real logistics. Sorry to say but the DLC is NOT worth the money not as long space exploration is free
Have you played the dlc itself already? Also, space age includes a number of additional tools that other mods can use. Space exploration also has a bunch of forced incompatibilities explicitly present due to the mod dev, whereas the expansion will not have any built in incompatibilities barring cases where other mods include incompatibilities. In terms of balance in space age and space exploration, space age contains a set of specific planets that are fixed. You also have specific dials for each planet, meaning you can tweak the values. Compared to Space exploration, every non Nauvis planet is completely unmoored from the settings you initially set. Space age has a more refined core in terms of specific balance. Space exploration has more planet variety at the cost of much more uncertain resource quality. Finally, space exploration is kinda in persistent development whereas space age will be relatively constant, similar to how the base game maintains a relatively constant progression. So a factory will generally not be under as much threat of being rendered unusable by an update. Compare this to Space Exploration where there have been a number of updates that alter the processing chains and make a factory instantly stall.
I have to say I don’t agree, with a similar hour count of 2900 factorio space age will definitely be far more logistically sound and well done than space exploration. It’s had years of development and it’s all been very well documented, and it adds things space exploration literally couldn’t because that’s just the way mods are limited and the dev aren’t. New biters, new planets, other currently inconceivable features that would be impossible with mods like aquillo (AQUILLO & OTHER PLANETARY SPOILERS) And its freezing mechanic, gleba with its new spider like biters, Vulcanus’s lava and foundries, all of this is far more interesting than space exploration does because space exploration is frankly just a bunch of slightly different worlds with random stars tied together by thousands of tedious recipes and complex systems that are really unnecessary sometimes. Space age will be different, new, more refined, and overall more accessible and interesting.
@@ImUnkown482 yea I don't see it but that is just my opinion. Not worth 35$ just for a few planets and a few new items.

Sorry to say, but your view on this is wrong. Space Exploration is a fan project created by community, and it’s still a work in progress. Developing mods and creating official DLCs like Space Age are two very different things. Plus, the creator of Space Exploration is now working with Wube on the Space Age DLC-and honestly, no one expects them to do that kind of work for free. You’ve enjoyed 3000 hours from a game that cost you $35. That’s about $0.01 per hour-you’ve probably spent more on electricity while playing than on the game itself. I think that says a lot about how fair the pricing really is.
factorio is out for a very long time and they improved it a lot without ever asking for another dollar.. they totally earned another payment.
