Installation looks great. I switched to 1” conduit after struggling with the 3/4” pull on my first Wall Connector install. Using #10 for the grounding conductor also helps with the pull.
A very nice video. I also appreciate the very clean garage. Congratulations, Matt!
Good job Dave. I would actually crack the wall and do a internal wiring and fix the wall back again for better looks and safety- this is external wiring and appear to be odd.
Another great video ! Thanks 😊
I enjoy your videos Dave.
Hey Dave, great video. What right angle fitting did you use to enter the panel? Thanks!!
Sorry for all the questions. Will use your referral when my truck comes. One more question what size breaker?
Please help me understand this installation. My understanding of the NEC says a positive disconnect switch is required for any circuit 60 amps or greater. Am I missing something or are you in a jurisdiction that doesn’t follow the NEC?
Hi Dave, Thanks for the video. Keep up the good work. What did he use inside the wall to connect to the breaker box to make that right angle. It looks like another LR but can't tell?
It’s a 90 with a back plate you can remove like an LB weird thing.
Good job on this video. I was most encouraged that you could get 10 foot lengths of conduit in the Mod Y. Who needs a truck! Ha. Actually in a truck it’s more difficult. I don’t like having half the conduit flopping around outside the bed. Fortunately I have a small sliding window in the back of my riidgeline.(it’s all the truck one needs). FLIR Camera? I want one.
FLIR One, I use the pro version plug into iPhone very cool measures temp. Be sure to cover end of conduit to not scratch dash
Great video! Dave, I noticed in one of your other videos that you have multiple wall chargers. Could you do a video on considerations for installing 2 or more wall chargers? Things such as need for additional capacity from the power company. I have 200 amp service and may want a second Tesla one day for the wife.
Kenneth, the version 2 Wall Connector allow load sharing using a twisted pair between WCs. I’ve got 3 on a 100 amp breaker with 80 amp max. I think the v2 WCs are still available. The software for the V3 is yet available to to load sharing. I use #2 wire
Nice video. Appreciated creative use of L-R connector and surprised you got it at Lowe’s. Wish you showed pulling of wire, probably using a fish tape. You could insert a nylon pull string during assembly of conduit too. While it doesn’t effect performance, I prefer two different colors, maybe black/white or black/red, for #6 wire to identify L1 & L2 if future troubleshooting is needed. Does S. Carolina, like some other states, allow the homeowner to do wiring on his own home? That means no expensive permit, electrician, or inspection.
Believe it or not John pushed the wire through before I arrived apparently he forgot the fish tape in a3/4 conduit, I was amazed
John the electrician 😉
Thanks for the video! Question though. What right angle fitting are you using behind the wall from the knockout to the conduit body. I’m trying to do exactly what your doing but not sure what fitting to use in the wall to make the transition to outside the drywall. Thanks!
John used a90 degree with removable cover plate, he treated it through the drywall into a knockout in the top of the box.
Hey Dave, when you use a super charger, does it over ride the charge rate that you set on the Tesla's screen? If I dial down rate of charge at home to 25A to make use of existing 30 amp circuit for seldom used table saw would I need to change it back up to max when using supercharger. Potentially one could then forget to change it back down to 25 for home use.
no.
Supercharging is DC power and it bypasses the AC chargers in your Tesla. The settings you are making in your Tesla for the current levels are just for AC charging. Also they are GPS based, so when you are home it can be dialed back, but at a public AC charger can be max.
Yes the setting the car is only for AC charging, the supercharger Will override charge limit as needed too
What wire size? I am installing #4 THHN with 1” conduit. Thoughts?
We used #6 but #4 being larger is less resistive loss and less power loss. 1” conduit ok
Dave, What size wire was purchased for the project? Maybe white paint would complete the looks of the project. Good 👍 installation.
#6
If you only have a dedicated 50 amp line and not a 60 amp line, will the wall charger still work? Just at 32 amps?
Absolutely, you can charge at any current selected in the car and is saved by GPS location. You select it when charging.
Hello. Can you list the items/parts name, part number and also the breaker please? I’d like to create this and call an electrician to install the breaker. Thank you sir.
Dave, you said you used #6 Ga wire for the hot wires, what size wire for the ground? #8? Please
#10 THNN for the ground per NEC 250.122 for a 60 amp continuous load
Dave, I installed a14-50 (or John did) outlet in my garage and ordered the adapter for, I think, $45.00 from Tesla. Would you consider that to be insufficient or a viable alternative to the Tesla module? What are the main disadvantages?
that is sufficient.
14-50 nema is perfect, it just requires that you'll need to unplug / plug-in more often than if you had a wall connector. I prefer the outlet bc it gives you options for either type of charger, and if by chance you move you just unplug your mobile charger and leave.
Only that you have to use the mobile connector which requires someone to plug in and out the 14-50 plug. This may be dangerous for folks not used to high power.
What is a sweep? Could that also be called a bend or an elbow? And you never said what size wire you used.
Two types of plastic elbows a street elbow 90degrees and electrical elbow is a sweep, still 90 but allows you to pull wire through it
Why did you use all these different pieces instead of just using long, flexible conduit?
Looks cleaner than flexi
can you install mine ?
I see about 5 code violations. Thanks for the laugh. People hire a qualified electrician
if so, List the 5 violations you see
Surface mounting that PVC looks terrible.
Another video, another obvious code violation.
what are the code violations?
