I heard this song when it first came out and I told my daughter that I wanted to dance to it with her on her wedding day as the father daughter dance. I danced with her this passed Saturday 3/16/2019, when she got married, it brought tears to her entire wedding party because it was from their era. But the original is from my era.
in a moment of tears i can relate..my daughter who was just a child yesterday is now an adult...She has grown to be the most amazing young woman in my eyes..as a young father i watched her grow but time went so fast it's as if i missed it..i made mistakes as a young father filled with drug abuse..in and out of rehabs..Shame is what i am left with as an old man now..How can i expect her forgiveness when i can't forgive myself..Please if your a young father..treasure these gifts you were given in your children and don't waste them like i did..They grow so fast and soon your looking back in regret and shame and left empty and alone seeking to be forgiven..Its a place i am left with by mistakes that i made and can't change now

Each time I look at them I start with tears but end with a smile.
I'm sorry to hear this. I too have a father that did not come to my wedding, but he wasn't being stubborn it was for other more complicated reasons. I no longer consider him as my father and we don't have a relationship at all. I know how much that sort of relationship or thing hurts. And I certainly know how it felt to go through that on my wedding day and all that led up to it. We're members of a very sad club that nobody should be a part of. ❤️
