Patrik Pánek Can I get a WOOT WOOT?!!!
AntsCanada WOOT WOOT!!!!
AntsCanada woot woot
AntsCanada can you post maybe twice a week Monday and Saturday?
AntsCanada check my comment about the ac question :P
instead of pokémon Go hunting we go Ant hunting
Yeah
Edwin Diaz lol
last summer i roamed around downtown to catch pokemons, this summer i crawled all over my neighbourhood to catch queens.
Edwin Diaz guys new app antamon go check it out
Chase Ace 😹
I managed to catch a queen on accident. I woke up this morning and saw this huge winged ant crawling in my room. Now, I usually kill insects that get into my room, but your videos gave me a soft spot for ants, so I caught her and I just came back home from releasing her into the wild. She broke her wings off while she was in my container... so I guess future ant generations will tell the story of the gentle giant who led their mother to the promised land? XD
You found one in your room lucky..I think I found one near a tree cause it looks big but I left it alone
the best Story
I'm camping now and when I set the tent up I found a dead queen ant in the tent. It had lost most of its legs and its head was missing... that could have been my first ever queen...
I found a queen black crazy ant at my public pool. I killed it for the jawbreakers. >:D
I have found a few crawling around in my room but most aren't fertilized

The sound of your voice when the queens were fighting was adorable!
I caught a tetramorium queen and the colony is doing great! The only bad thing is that it is way too expensive to get ac stuff, so i just have to improvise.
Aaron McBride yea the stuff is great but too expensive for people you are not ant addicts
Aaron McBride I use a small hose to connect my ants to their different homes and it is about $2 per foot
I recommend you learn basic 2D AutoCAD and design your own formicariums. They can still be a bit expensive, but not so much. I have a video where I show the first one I made, and I'll soon upload videos of the newer and more efficient model. Good luck!
I know! Its like $200 for the starter kit LoL when I tried to start a colony it didnt work (water bottles and wet paper towels are not very effective)
Now I know how to get queen ants
Carpenter ants are good for beginners because they are easy to take care of and they are big so you can see them well
Plaid Penguin Gaming and they take a long time to be colony ready which is cool ^^
My friend and I caught a queen ant in school but my friend accidentally squished it.
I'm still mourning
It’s a fight to the death between me and my friend

In temperate regions (for example, southern Illinois in the US), you can find newly mated carpenter ant queen ants hiding in rotting/moist pieces of wood at least six in diameter with holes/hollow caverns. They tend to start their colonies in the soft wood in forests, as it is is easy to burrow through and provides quick and easy shelter while their initial brood develop. Once they get more workers, they tend to expand into the surrounding soil, but you can catch really young colonies (2-6 workers) in wood. Smash the wood, and try to carefully shepherd the fleeing ants/queen into a container.
When you realize everyone in the comments is basically an expert in ant keeping and you realize you know absolutely nothing about ants except when they are in your house they are terrifying
Joshua Berardelli lol same
Joshua Berardelli lol me too
im with ya i just think of queen hunting as shiny hunting in pokemon just much easier ive been trying for bout a year and still dont have a shiny treecko OR A SHINY FROAKIE

I managed to catch my self a funnel ant queen in my backyard when I was playing with my dogs and it's a good thing I always keep a small container with me during nuptial flight seasons in Australia she is now in a test tube setup and is on her way to making a colony hopefully
Ooooo hows it going right now? Its been a year :P

I guess you know where to go ant hunting. Lol

You are lucky! I've lived in my house for a long time and I have multiple ant colonys living in there but still no success.
Every year in summer my grandmas field is swarming with winged ants
If you need your contacts wear your glasses.

AC Question of the Week:
One reason why carpenter ants are a good starter-species is because they are large ants, so they're easier to watch and easier to care for.
Mikes Stuff XD
Mikes Stuff Good one!
Liam Van Bouwel well if you are a new ant keeper wouldn't you like to see your ants ?
also that slow colony growth rate sounds nice because you can get more items for their set up and learn more about caring for the colony before it gets large and takes more ability to manage :)
...welp. Enjoy your new test tubes. Lucky buster...
Liam Van Bouwel Well, to be honest my knowledge of ants is limited, but I would assume because they're larger and easier to see, you can feed them more easily and check to see what they're up to easier. Also, they're probably better hunters because of their larger size. Lastly, you can see them easier and enjoy the sight of your colony at work instead of having to search for them throughout their habitat. Just my idea, but you may want to double-check me on that.
My tetramorium queen has her first 5 workers.
good job ryan
That's awesome good luck
Ryan Macleod yay
Ryan Macleod great good luck
My tetramorium Queen has about 100
Wow in august i get dozens of those in my backyard
Found a queen alate after getting off of my bus sitting in the pickup box of a vending machine. Gently picked it up and let it fly out, since it seemed stuck. I'm sure that if I didn't help, it would've got squished!
O MY I NEVER KNEW THAT WHEN THEY FLY THATS HOW IT WORKS. When I was younger me and my friends used to call it ant day whenever that happened every year or so in my town, we used to watch as all the ants flew everywhere
Lmao oh god imagine if u walked into one swarm ._.
I've sold 3 colonies today!
I'm a UK GANs farmer, tell if you want to purchase any colonies! 😊
Ishtyaq_ Awesome! Thanks for being part of the GAN Project!

Langden Wulff it is illegal in America dummy
I've been a fan for many years! I've decided to try and keep ants myself. I've just ordered some glass tubes and an ant nest from your site and impatiently waiting your order :) I caught two carpenter ant relates few weeks ago, in Kapuskasing Ontario- Canada and kept them in seperate small Tupperware containers until I get the tubes. One of my ants is apparently a female that did breed because she has at least 8 eggs I've seen so far. I'm so proud of my first small achievement.
I know this is 2 years later but is the queen still alive and well?
Ye, i hate it when im searching for queen ants and i just see people continuosly glancing at me with a face like"wtf is he doing, wierdo"
I agree with you.

Mr. Lettuce Cabbage yess
Once I caught an GIANT ant, but 8 dunno what it was, but it was strong man, I tried to pick it up and it bit me, so I trapped it, then I hid it in my room, so a month later the container I pit it in was a sea full of ants, I was terrified so I just gave the jar to my friend who loved ants, and he put it in his fish tank, but then, the giant ant died, and my friend gave them food, but after the queen died, ants started planning an escape, since my friend did not know what to do, so he just let them plan, a week later they all escaped, and they were everywhere. But now till this day, I catch ants and give them away for care.
Mr Beast He just said, he catches them and gives them away for care. That is probably what they did with them.
sorry my pc was not working i could not press the see more sooooo i though it was a troll
Mr Beast Sureeeeee... Like I will belive that. Btw, stop faking. I know your not the real Mr. Beast.
im a man and a beast sooo my name is mr beast and you play slither so stfu
Mr Beast What the hell is Slither? You don't even know what you're saying anymore!
As a kid I thought flying ants were a freak occurrence that just happened for no reason every now and then. Remembering back I do remember it did tend to happen around the same time as thunderstorms. It's great to finally understand what the heck is actually happening with flying ants. I had no idea it was so common amongst ant species.
Your videos are always cool but this one really tops the cake!!! Keep up the good work
AC Question Answer: Carpenter ants are good ants for beginners, because they are large and easy to see, are very active, and love food.

Sometimes there’s so many ant queen on my school, I think the ant flew to the balconies in the 2nd floor.
And just to mention me and my other friend like to catch them a lot of students are scared of the queen ants, I hope they don’t pee their pants 🤣🤣
I love my ant walks, they’re so refreshing

Dear AntsCanada, I've had a great success with your tutorials. Your videos are so helpful
+Logan Buckley Yay! Happy to hear! Good luck with your colony! Hope they flourish!
AWESOME Jawbreakers Revive!
To answer the AC question: They're great starter ants because they're big and easy to see in a formacarium. Not to mention their big appetites and high activity make them fun to watch. Even better they DON'T sting!
I tried brood boosting one of my ant colony’s, and it worked really well!!
I just caught my first ever 3 campanotus queens and have them in test tubes in a drawer pretty excited to grow them :)

Caught 1 Queen 2 weeks ago (still had their wings on), caught second Queen (also with her wings on) kept them for a week to see if they would break their wings off, but no luck.
So I let them go, the same day I caught 3 males lol! And no Queens!!!
Went to my local Park in New Zealand (South Island, Blenheim) and caught a Queen.
And she laid eggs (x20). So I ordered a small nest and will wait until the new workers are born and then transfer them out to their new nest.
Can't wait!
My queen camponutus laid eggs and still has her wings.
I ordered a nest and tube also. How long did you wait for them?

Bruh there is a messor ant colony (a wild one) living on the streets when I looked for an ant queen there was a dead queen and I was sad and triggerd because I could of found a queen ant so I’m sad rn so im waiting for rain and then Ima go out to the messor ant colony and try get a elite mated queen ant oh and I found a queen and she fast and ran into the grass so I couldn’t see here then she was gone
That's a big run on
Stanley Littlejohn I agree
carpenter ants would make a great species for beginner ant keepers because they are large so we can really see them in a formicarium, they are active they love their sweets, food and they don''t sting, though they a long time to grow
by the way AntsCanada you made me want to host ant colonies now because you make it seem so fun
Just bought the kit! First timer so hopefully this makes my life a bit easier.

I caught a Formica queen today. She dove into the grass and my friend and J spent about 15 minutes trying to get her. The funny part is as soon as I see her I set my hand down in the grass and a massive wolf spider crawled across my hand. Totally worth the effort tho lol!
I also found a Tetramorium queem after that

I was disipointed when the ant nest that my dog killed by pooping on it had ant piles on it
same
The sad truth.
Carpenter ants are slow growing ants, and during the first year or two don't have huge population explosions like solenopsis. This means beginners antkeepers can take their time and slowly gain experience keeping! They are also larger ants, so they can't as easily escape and are much easier to view!
Black Pearl black pearl I beat you I was first lol
Liam O'Connor :D we will see who wins heh!!
Black Pearl if it's not me I hope it's you, we can agree on that right?
Liam O'Connor sure can!
