Summary: To achieve more in a shorter time, focus on consistent execution, replace annualization with periodization, create an emotional connection to the outcome, and have a compelling vision for the future. Great work as always, thanks Ali!

It's written in the Gita that one should never be connected with the result, only be connected with work. Honestly thats the most sensible advice. The amount of times I had wasted time being either emotionally connected with the result, or being hurt because the result was never achieved was tremendous. Instead I started looking forward to making the best day possible.

I've been implementing 12 Week Year for my 2024. First 12 Week Year has been focused on "Skill Acquisition". Highly suggest focus on week by week milestones. You can easily fall into the same mental trap as "Oh I have the whole year". But in this case its "Oh I have 12 weeks".

I have created 5 multi-million dollar businesses over the past 25 years - all based on your takeaways from the 12 Week Year. Being self-aware is the single most effective way to to keep a clear vision of your future & what you spend your time & energy on.

I break personal commitments into three month “Seasons”: Spring (FMA), Summer (MJJ), Fall (ASO), Holidays (NDJ). I focus on certain things in each season, which helps me define the goals for that season. For example, “Holidays” includes Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years, so my goals for that month mostly focus on relationships and other areas will get shifted into maintenance mode for a bit. I realized this was happening organically so I just leaned into it and it’s worked well for me.

Another content creator brought up a good point as like the main difference between 12 week year vs quarterly planning is timeline. Basically the 12 week year can start 10/27/2024 . You're not stuck waiting for January 2025 to start a goal. You're not stuck on a calendar timeline, you can just start anytime.

For me it is a balalnce, there are months were I just dabble, get through life, no focus, no goals, just enyoing my life. Then there are the opposite months, mostly starting with an idea, sometimes you need to wait for a flower to bloom. Some ideas are in the back of my head for months, years, some I bump in to in my spare time and they pull me directly on the waggon and I am off. But I am never always all the time productive.

That feeling sticks with me even if I try and progress and change. I just wish I could start over.

I think after identifying the execution gap it is important to identify what keeps you from executing.
I think it is so important to check if closing the gap is really making us feel better and making our live in total better. Often we sacrifice things that are really important to us for things the world implies should be important to us; maybe you need indeed more rest than exercise.
If something makes you miserable, find out what it needs to change it. If it is takes too much to change it, arrange yourself with the situation. Remember the very old saying of success leaders „If you cannot beat your enemy, make him a friend!“ Otherwise give it a try! Then setting short time goals comes in handy. And if you should fail, you can always try again - or make it a „friend“.
    Don’t underestimate being content!

I believe the reason why people cannot execute on their goals is because they may not be framing their perspective on time correctly. I did a school research project of productivity and found that urgency, unsuprisingly, was a key factor in dealing with tasks, and that people are much more prone to do things as soon as their time is almost up. So, being the somewhat irrational beings we are, why not take advantage of this irrationality and leverage delusion in our everyday lives. Besides, human brains have been reported to believe memories that are not real and all that nonsense. What I always say to myself is, "Every day's a New Year, and I want to grow up.". Rember now, time is a subjective concept. Every new years Eve begins and ended within the span of 24 hours. With that logic, we waste a year every day. The point is to be delued, as to not conform to the norms of society. Thank you for reading this is you haven't lost your attention span to unfortunate brain rot. :)

Great video. The deadline effect is true. A friend and I have been setting weekly goals for ourselves and it definitely helps in productivity. Bob Proctor also talks about how important being emotionally involved in the outcome is.

We desperately need two videos from you.
One is about how to create a compelling vision - everyone says it is important, but almost no one says how to do that.
And the second one is about how to be not productive effectively - productivity people always tell us about the means for how to not play ps5, but people need to rest and do worthless shit to stay sane and it can be done smart.

I’ve had executive dysfunction for practically my entire life. I don’t lack intellect, creative ability, or skill… I lack will power which is frustrating because although I realize my potential i keep suspending myself in this limbo of absent mindedness and self limiting beliefs. I’m not even comfortable in my comfort zone it’s very hard dealing with myself.

Is the zoom on overdrive in this video, or am I just noticing it for the first time? Great book. Also, I feel the disclaimer is.. making a plan isn't enough on its own. I know I've used it as an avoidance tactic to not do what I should have been doing at time. You still must execute.

I absolutely agree with purpose, the overall big picture and the emotion that's connected with it that'd help us be driven/motivated and not be depressed? But what if there's strong resistance with belief and hope because of the past and you could see the future where some things are certain(against you)?

    We get 'distracted' we say.
    Is that so?
Why do we want to be productive?
Do we feel bad if we aren't, why?
Do we feel meaninglessness if we aren't productive or only if we aren't productive for too long? Do we run toward the idea of near endless productivity just to not feel that feeling?
If we are running away from the feeling of meaninglessness (maybe in the form of boredom or any other emotion on top of it masking it) shouldn't we just do in each moment what is meaningful? And can't it be that after some time of productivity, that which is meaningful becomes , rest, scrolling, gaming, sitting around a campfire and talk to friends,...? If so then that would be the thing we need to want to do. That would be "traction" for as long as it is meaningful. So forced productivity (not related to obligations) could then be distractions. And our mind will know and fight that.
Once we have relaxed that feeling of restlessness or desire for something more meaningful arises In other words, our traction has shifted from relaxing to the path of productivity. Now productivity is what is traction and indeed if now we were to relax regardless of the unfulfillment then we would be distracted. But relaxing is not always a distraction. Not at all. Not if our goal is a life spent doing what is meaningful whatever it may be in each moment.
Even with all this focus on productivity. I assume even Ali Abdaal ends up seeking comfort (games, scrolling etc) and the reason for it I described above.
I've noticed that setting goals sometimes makes me feel it's too much. Seeing a calendar filled on my free days from work. No. It's a free day. I'll do what's . meaningful I'll not add unnecessary obligation on a day of freedom.
But then. Once I delete the calendar entries and instead go for short walks to gain a clear mind and connect with my values by asking questions and envisioning (romantizing, the life I'd want to live) I naturally have the desire to for example learn as a hobby and do it without a calendar entry.
And instead of waking up with a feeling of having another list of things I HAVE to do. I wake up knowing I will do whatever I find meaningful that day and this whatever I will do is what I WANT to do. That's fine. A person who finds it important to learn and investigates their moment to moment experience can perfectly have a couple hours of comfort or occasionally a day even. As they will naturally grow towards what they find important eventually. As long as you see you're not watching hours of television even though you feel miserable because of it. You are fine.
If I've been completely exhausted it will be resting.
If not exhausted. It will be learning , or anything that might be important.
In a sense the calendar and goals are like the diets. You don't need much of a system.
You just need to execute what is meaningful to you and evaluate what that is through critical thinking.
So this isn't just do whatever you want. No because you could want two things or more. And then end up choosing one and sitting there feeling bad because you always do this same thing entertainment activity like gaming. Instead it's doing what it most needed for you in that moment. And it can't be gaming if you feel bad while doing it.
