You really just helped me so so much. You just simplified ketosis and are now going to make my journey so much easier. Thank you
Kim Wall - Love this comment! Thanks Kim! :-)
I'm only in it for I ketones. Weight loss isn't everyone's goal, ketones solve a lot of issues for some people.

Listened at 1.25x speed was perfect! Great content :)
Bless you
What I am “chasing” is lower body fat percentage I feel my weight is fine. I’m 5’ 5 3/4” and 125 and 26.2 body fat and have plateaued with my body fat. Although that is down from 140lb and 39% BF when I started 2 years ago. I had dropped to 24% at one point and then back up to 26.2%. I’m not so focused on the numbers as I am the obvious cellulite all over my entire body. I walk regularly for exercise although I do have a knee injury right now and cannot do that. Do you have any suggestions for making my body burn the body fat more?
1.5x is still understandable when in a rush
Thank you!!!!
Damn thanks
dont know about those ketone levels... these strips show low ketone levels...
but on OMAD keto I lost 32 pounds in 10 weeks...so I am happy....
Your videos help so much. I am usually at .8 and up to 1.2 and I am losing body fat. My a1c has gone down from 5.7 to 5.2 in two months. Feel great. I don't worry about the ketone number. I pay attention to keeping carbs very low and eating quality food. Just common sense.
Just found your channel and I’m so excited. I’ve been so overwhelmed with all of the different information out there!! I feel like you really make it simple to understand!! I will continue to watch your videos... thank you so much!!
Dr. Bickman says "Limit carbs, prioritize protein, and fill with fat."
There are few better as scientists than Bikman
If you fill with fat, you'll burn less body fat. Depends on what your goal is...maintain weight or lose weight.
Dr Attia on The drive shows that eating high fat he lost weight and other bio -markers were shown to be great on a high fat diet ..fat keeps you full and satietied fat does not raise your insulin ..
@@emgarden I read the comment’s “fill with fat” in a sort of top up with fat, which if you’re prioritising protein (as opposed to fat), then you’ll be eating less fat than the 75% that most recommend - which in turn means you’re more likely to burn body fat. I may be wrong though.
Excellent! You answered doubts I had watching other channels. You confirmed likewise my theory. thanks
Love this I’ve not been doing long ,was totally confused with all information and the difference to technical ,this is simple and to the point thankyou
This has helped me more than anything!! I've been chasing that higher ketone level thinking that was the answer better results. It's completely sabotaged my keto weight loss journey in the past. I've just started back and have a much greater ketone understanding!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
I started on my new Keto journey 5 days ago.I checked my ketone level yesterday and really didn’t know what result I was looking for. Totally confused, but you’ve explained everything. Great work, glad to hear you’re back after your NHS pandemic work. What a star 💫 thank you for your help and dedication 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Blimey! Finally someone who makes this keto stuff accessible and sensible which has definitely lead to a 🤦♂️ moment, thank you 👍🏻
Wow I feel like a light has just been switched on after 2 years of trying to understand the keto diet. Thank you so much.
I've been testing my blood early in the morning. Usually was .5 - .7 ketones. After watching this video, I tested after dinner the other night and my ketones were 1.3. Hmmm and all along I thought I was doing something wrong with my eating or something. Turns out it was just the wrong time of day. Thank you so much!!
New to keto. Done it before but not seriously. The keto community is sincerely brilliant so sweet patient and loaded with knowledge. Thanks to everyone!
Thankyou for the most complete and common sense answers to my keto questions. I've had cancer, I am overweight, autoimmune thyroid, and have neurological issues. I had weight loss success before with keto but halted after hair loss around three months. I think I will have a better approach with your advice. At this point I am mostly seeking better health. Wish me luck.
As I learn more about ketones and the ketogenic diet I find that revisiting these videos make more sense. Thank you for making these videos. So very helpful.
A very clear and well-reasoned explanation. You are so right, there is a keto community out there which seems to worship at the ketone shrine. You quite rightly stress the importance of identifying the goal before playing the game! Thank you for taking the time to explain this so clearly.
Thankyou, a really valuable video and message Dr Dan!
I can see that tracking ketone and glucose levels in the early phase of doing a keto diet along with Intermittent fasting and exercise will be handy but will become less important over time. This video has answered a number of questions so much thanks again!
Im a body builder (51) and new to keto and IF but see the clear benefits in being able to shred faster while maintaining muscle mass. I would love you to make more videos addressing these synergies.
Cheers Dr Dan!.....😀💪👍
😎🙏❤
Thanks Dr.Maggs! I truly appreciated this video for the clarity and the content of information. I love the advice towards the end of the video to “chase the results you’re after”. I’ve been a T2 Diabetic for nearly 4 decades, and the last few years have been difficult. As I get older, I do find it harder to maintain my weight and overall health.
One of my life purposes has been having QUALITY OF LIFE. My pursuit is better BS control and weight loss. I have CKD and last week I visited with my kidney specialist. She was impressed by my significant reduction in Creatinine levels & increased eGFR after 2 months of LC/IF. I agree with the moderate protein & moderate quality fats approach for the reasons you stated...it just seems more sensible to me. Plus, I feel great (also lost 24 lbs.). God bless!
Btw: thank you for all your clear explanations about ketones, weight loss and keto diet. I really appreciate your videos!! 🙏🙏
I started this weight loss journey about 5 weeks ago. I was only consuming 100gr of carbs for a week, then 50 for another and finally Keto (20 g) a week for the last three weeks. I have lost a total of 8 lbs and feeling very energized. I have not measured my ketones and yes, sometimes I wish I could lose weight faster but I am also learning how to be patient. Not sure what my ketone level is but steady in my weight loss journey. You videos are so Informative. You keep everything very simple. Keep up the good work!
*Now I have a better understanding of how to measure and maintain my ketone levels for better results. Great content!*
Great advice. You make a lot of sense and have clarified many questions for me. Thanks.
Thanks for great advice and solace. I've only been checking my BG and I finally bought some ketone measuring sticks. Got a little bummed out about having my first reading saying 0.7. The remark about "if you're doing keto for your diabetes then go by your BG lvls instead" made my day.
I have "cured" myself of diabetes with fasting BG in the 70-80's after doing keto and I had BG lvls above 200 before.
You explain things so well. Thank you for being so helpful. You are so smart and relate in such a logical manner. I just love your videos !
This information makes so much sense! Sometimes you are losing inches even if the scale doesn’t always show a loss.
Thank you so much for this information. I'm one week in and so confused. This has helped me so much.
Glad you found it helpful! Let me know if you have any other questions. Always looking for ides for videos where I can help people with their questions! :)
Thanks Linda... and thanks for subscribing!
Just found your channel this week, now I'm hooked... Excellent, Great information Dr. Maggs! Thanks so much for educating us, answering our doubts, and helping us achieve a much healthier way of living! Keep up with your great work!
Thank you Lucia! Appreciate your comment! :)
Wow. I really needed to hear this! Thank you!
Thank you for sharing! I follow keto and use mojo meter!
This is so good! I've never heard anyone explain this. Thank you so much!! 👍👏You've helped me understand ketones. Very encouraging 🙌
Thank you for sharing this information with us! Helps so much to understand all this!!👍🏼
Thank you for this video is very very Good information.
I’ve been on a keto diet for about 5 1/2 weeks and I’m losing weight effortlessly. I was starting to think that I needed to start focusing in on where my Keytone levels were. But after listening to your video I will just continue doing what I’m doing which is losing weight. Thanks again
Thank you so much for this information. You're so easy to listen to and the information was very informative.👍🏾
Interesting question thank you for educating us on this for our weight loss benefits.
Great reality check for a lot of people. I think all too often we focus on the numbers and not on what is important. thanks you for sharing this great information. It helped simplify keto for me.
Thank you. A lot of common sense. I've known these facts about ketones for a while, but it's nice to hear someone else say it.
Another Fantastic video Dan! Really informative. Thank you. Clear and really great set of info throughout the whole set of videos so far. Great job. Look forward to the next one!!
Thank you! :)
Awesome explanations. Thanks so much for the obvious care you put into this video.
Thanks for noticing Andrew! :-)
Excellent clarity Doctor. Very helpful!
Brilliant! What you are explaining makes so much sense. I hate the emphasis on eating so much fat and not enough protein in my opinion. Thanks so much for the logical and practical information, it is such a huge help to understand how to loose weight and maintain good health.
Now it all makes sense. After a month on Keto this video makes me a lot less stressed. I was getting obsessed by measuring ketones and was worried when i got below 1.0.
Very informative. Thanks so much for all that you do.
Great video! thanks for helping me to understand. It seems everything I read is just completely opposite. I've been on keto over 5 years. I've always had 1.0- 1. 5 readings, and recently in the past 2 months my numbers are below 0.5
I can't raise them for the life of me. I thought I was gonna have to supplement with those expensive ketone supplements. Or drink BPC, which I hate. The only thing that has changed is I started running again in January. I've always worked out with weights, but haven't been a big cardio fan. I love to run, and I haven't done it in years, but its helped me feel so much better. I thought I read somewhere that exercise makes ketone levels higher, and that you're suppose to always test in the am. In the evening before dinner I'm at 0.9
I dont fast much because I need my energy to workout and run. Your video really helped me because I thought I was eating too much but I'd rather have energy to run and workout than be over 1.0
I clicked on another video and all she was doing was making a commercial for you to buy expensive exogenous ketones that are a waste. I've been low carb since 2000, did Atkins for a long time and spent most of it in ketosis and never needed any fancy supplements.
Thank god I found you...you do a great job of explaining all the principles of the Ketosis levels!
Thank you, thank you, thank you!! One of the most level headed keto videos I've seen. I definitely want to stay healthy through this journey and not cause another problem because of it. You have a new subscriber! :)
@Cee Gee There is a lot of mis information out there about this subject, or just plain BS, as stated in this video don't become to hung up about Ketone numbers. Have a look at the Glucose Ketone Index, this may help you learn a bit more. Getting your blood sugar level under control is more important and the key. Cut out rubbish highly processed food and sugar, and alcohol and stop snacking, these steps will help you get your blood sugar levels down and stable. And sleep, you must have a regular and good sleep pattern, this is often over looked. Start by getting a good blood glucose/ketone monitor, and also check your blood glucose after eating whole carbs to see the affect on your levels. But getting fat adapted takes time, despite what you may read, depending on your past lifestyle can take 3-6 months, so don't expect over night miracles. It takes time but does work, but you also have to incorporate exercise. Hope this helps. 😍😍😍
Good vid. I was contemplating this exact set of thoughts, thanks.
Thanks Dan, That question has been bothering me for some time now, Like Kim commented , "youre making the journey so much easier" keep up the great videos chap, best wishes from Canada eh!
Thanks Kipp! Really appreciate you watching my videos!
A very good explanation of how to use the different indicators for staying healthy. Thank you so much
Very clear explanations, thanks for your videos !
Really good clear advice. Thank you.
I'm just starting this journey and this helped a LOT. thanks.
Very informative and well explained. Thanks for sharing.
Wow! so informative and reasoned well...thank you!
Dr Dan, thank you so much for this video. My husband is going through his weight loss journey and really enjoys your videos. Thank you for the information. Just got a new subscriber #154.
Awesome. Thanks for the comment and sorry it took me a few days to respond!!! Let your husband know I've got to loads more to come 😀
wish I found you earlier. You make everything make sense, you explain it in a way its easy to understand, thank you so much!!
Thanks for well researched talk. Your biochemistry knowledge is better than most doctors.
Perfect just the info I was searching for, thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
I checked my ketones after i did cheat meals /days, to understand how it affected me. I periodically check ketones on weekly basis and weigh myself everyday, as my current goal is to loose weight. Thanks for the video, it's clear and confirm my understanding about ketones.
This is perfect. I needed this. I have stalled so I am trying to fine tune .
Excellent advice. Thank you!
wow, seems I'm watching this for the second time since I binged in the early hours and days of Keto. Now 3 weeks in, it will doubtlessly make more sense. I like your way of teaching, Dr Dan. PS. so far 4 kgs down -- roughly 9 lbs.
Great information, thanks so much!
I never understood why people were encouraging the consumption of certain fats (ie MCT) and the benefits of it from a ketosis level point of view, until now. Thanks for shedding light. Subscribed.
Best video I have seen! Thank you
This is such great info! I really like how you explain this in an easy to understand way and share your own experience in this video. (Btw, nice graphics!)
Thanks, @Patricia Kelikani - Appreciate your support & feedback!
Excellent video. You are fabulous and full of intelligent content. I have subscribed!
Spot on Dan, everyone is different and they have to do what works for them even though keytones play a huge part.
Hi Dan, I am so happy to find your channel :) Thanks a lot for all your great and helpful videos.
👍
This is so helpful! Thank you.
This guy has elite communication skills. Very useful video and info thank you 🙏🏾
Just found your channel and I’m so thankful! I’ve been keto since June of 2019. I’ve lost almost 30 pounds but still need to lose 15-20 more. I’ve been “stuck” for the last two months! I have hypothyroidism so now I understand why I’m not losing. Do you have a video on how to get over the plateau with this? You are so methodical and easy to understand! Your science seems right on the money! Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Try Keto OMAD!
Thank you Dr. Maggs for this fantastic explanation. You have put the ketone topic in great perspective for me.
Correct 🎈
Very good information. I listen to this video twice. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
Best video I’ve watched to describe ketones and keto WOE! I do have a question though. If you’re supposed to aim for protein, how off can your macros be in order to be considered KETO?
Excellent, this helps info. Helps allot. Thanks.
Excellent, video, You explain things very well.
Very good video and is spot on based on my research. Thanks!
VERY technically informative video. Thank you. I've been eating keto now for 70 days and I've lost 14 lbs. I am now at a weight that I wish to maintain. So, I adjusted my carbohydrate/protein/fat intakes to hault the weight loss, but maintain the other benefits of a keto diet. I've never chased keytone levels, although I do test via the blood a few times a week. My levels average about 0.5. I see it this way - I achieved my weight goal, and on a side note, my blood pressure is normal, glucose levels are good, typical joint pain is gone, and I feel great.
Love your videos. Hope we see you back soon!
Excellent video! Thank you.
This was a great spot. Thank you. I do not want to eat fat for fat's sake. I'd rather use it to flavor my vegetables. This makes me feel like that's OK!
Answered so many lingering questions. Thanks
Good coherent stuff really useful. Do you have any reading tips for the different use of proteins while the body is in ketosis you mention midway through the video
Such an excellent, concisely clear and logically informative video. Thank you so much!
26 month keto here! I’ve only been using my BG monitor and my macros… not really caring about ketones but during this quarantine I’m having a real struggle not putting weight on every month so I broke down and bought a keto meter and now I’m just learning all about it even though I’ve had huge success with keto for two years these last two months have been hard I’m thinking it’s because of the stress in the cortisol not sure but thank you for this video
Thank for the cool analysis!
Thanks for watching, Chris!
Thank you for explaining clearly
Thanks for your excellent channel. Do you recommend using a blood monitor vs. listing food intake and macros?
Thank you for your sober commonsense stance.. It is amazing how hard we can make things. The big take away from this video is hold the course don't be detracted by too much information remember your own objective. I see a lot of people as I started looking at ketones and that became our focus and not thee reason we looked at ketone levels to begin with.
Thank you, You refocusing me on my primary purpose of changing my life style and improving my health..
This has been a 16 month journey for mi. it was meant to enhance my life not become it
I will continue to check levels in my blood but not often. only periodically or when something seems to have gone a rye
I have just been looking everywhere to see what my ketone levels are supposed to be to be in ketosis. Thanks for the information it's very helpful. I will continue to check my ketone and blood sugar levels to make sure that I am in the safe zones when fasting, but other than that, that won't give the value too much weight.
thanks for that video. I was worry about my ketone level 0.4( i working hard and also training 3 time per week). I have a lot of energy and i think i just use them ;) peaple on internet they talking only about this. they share own ketone level to be proud but you explain me now thats now inportant. I start keto to be healthy not to lose weight and this is my goal. one more time thanks for that important information. i gonna follow you chanel.
I totally agree that keeping protein high is important. I've always done it (25 years now) on a low carb diet and have always stayed lean, and strong.
I’ve been maintaining high ketone levels in the 3.2 range with normal glucose levels of 75-80 ml for 2 weeks now and have only dropped 2 lbs. So this video definitely makes sense.
Glad you found it useful
So helpful, thanks!😊
I completely agree with you to focus on what you want to achieve and go for it rathern checking for ketone level and lose the sight for the target, this is what I will do because it works for me, excersise and eating right balance food and not junk food. Thank you for this
great vid! Im glad I found this
