What I am “chasing” is lower body fat percentage I feel my weight is fine. I’m 5’ 5 3/4” and 125 and 26.2 body fat and have plateaued with my body fat. Although that is down from 140lb and 39% BF when I started 2 years ago. I had dropped to 24% at one point and then back up to 26.2%. I’m not so focused on the numbers as I am the obvious cellulite all over my entire body. I walk regularly for exercise although I do have a knee injury right now and cannot do that. Do you have any suggestions for making my body burn the body fat more?

Your videos help so much. I am usually at .8 and up to 1.2 and I am losing body fat. My a1c has gone down from 5.7 to 5.2 in two months. Feel great. I don't worry about the ketone number. I pay attention to keeping carbs very low and eating quality food. Just common sense.

@@emgarden I read the comment’s “fill with fat” in a sort of top up with fat, which if you’re prioritising protein (as opposed to fat), then you’ll be eating less fat than the 75% that most recommend - which in turn means you’re more likely to burn body fat. I may be wrong though.

Thankyou, a really valuable video and message Dr Dan!
I can see that tracking ketone and glucose levels in the early phase of doing a keto diet along with Intermittent fasting and exercise will be handy but will become less important over time. This video has answered a number of questions so much thanks again!
Im a body builder (51) and new to keto and IF but see the clear benefits in being able to shred faster while maintaining muscle mass. I would love you to make more videos addressing these synergies.

Thanks Dr.Maggs! I truly appreciated this video for the clarity and the content of information. I love the advice towards the end of the video to “chase the results you’re after”. I’ve been a T2 Diabetic for nearly 4 decades, and the last few years have been difficult. As I get older, I do find it harder to maintain my weight and overall health.
One of my life purposes has been having QUALITY OF LIFE. My pursuit is better BS control and weight loss. I have CKD and last week I visited with my kidney specialist. She was impressed by my significant reduction in Creatinine levels & increased eGFR after 2 months of LC/IF. I agree with the moderate protein & moderate quality fats approach for the reasons you stated...it just seems more sensible to me. Plus, I feel great (also lost 24 lbs.). God bless!

I started this weight loss journey about 5 weeks ago. I was only consuming 100gr of carbs for a week, then 50 for another and finally Keto (20 g) a week for the last three weeks. I have lost a total of 8 lbs and feeling very energized. I have not measured my ketones and yes, sometimes I wish I could lose weight faster but I am also learning how to be patient. Not sure what my ketone level is but steady in my weight loss journey. You videos are so Informative. You keep everything very simple. Keep up the good work!

Thanks for great advice and solace. I've only been checking my BG and I finally bought some ketone measuring sticks. Got a little bummed out about having my first reading saying 0.7. The remark about "if you're doing keto for your diabetes then go by your BG lvls instead" made my day.
I have "cured" myself of diabetes with fasting BG in the 70-80's after doing keto and I had BG lvls above 200 before.

Great video! thanks for helping me to understand. It seems everything I read is just completely opposite. I've been on keto over 5 years. I've always had 1.0- 1. 5 readings, and recently in the past 2 months my numbers are below 0.5
I can't raise them for the life of me. I thought I was gonna have to supplement with those expensive ketone supplements. Or drink BPC, which I hate. The only thing that has changed is I started running again in January. I've always worked out with weights, but haven't been a big cardio fan. I love to run, and I haven't done it in years, but its helped me feel so much better. I thought I read somewhere that exercise makes ketone levels higher, and that you're suppose to always test in the am. In the evening before dinner I'm at 0.9
I dont fast much because I need my energy to workout and run. Your video really helped me because I thought I was eating too much but I'd rather have energy to run and workout than be over 1.0
I clicked on another video and all she was doing was making a commercial for you to buy expensive exogenous ketones that are a waste. I've been low carb since 2000, did Atkins for a long time and spent most of it in ketosis and never needed any fancy supplements.

@Cee Gee There is a lot of mis information out there about this subject, or just plain BS, as stated in this video don't become to hung up about Ketone numbers. Have a look at the Glucose Ketone Index, this may help you learn a bit more. Getting your blood sugar level under control is more important and the key. Cut out rubbish highly processed food and sugar, and alcohol and stop snacking, these steps will help you get your blood sugar levels down and stable. And sleep, you must have a regular and good sleep pattern, this is often over looked. Start by getting a good blood glucose/ketone monitor, and also check your blood glucose after eating whole carbs to see the affect on your levels. But getting fat adapted takes time, despite what you may read, depending on your past lifestyle can take 3-6 months, so don't expect over night miracles. It takes time but does work, but you also have to incorporate exercise. Hope this helps. 😍😍😍

VERY technically informative video. Thank you. I've been eating keto now for 70 days and I've lost 14 lbs. I am now at a weight that I wish to maintain. So, I adjusted my carbohydrate/protein/fat intakes to hault the weight loss, but maintain the other benefits of a keto diet. I've never chased keytone levels, although I do test via the blood a few times a week. My levels average about 0.5. I see it this way - I achieved my weight goal, and on a side note, my blood pressure is normal, glucose levels are good, typical joint pain is gone, and I feel great.

Thanks for your excellent channel. Do you recommend using a blood monitor vs. listing food intake and macros?

Thank you for your sober commonsense stance.. It is amazing how hard we can make things. The big take away from this video is hold the course don't be detracted by too much information remember your own objective. I see a lot of people as I started looking at ketones and that became our focus and not thee reason we looked at ketone levels to begin with.
Thank you, You refocusing me on my primary purpose of changing my life style and improving my health..
This has been a 16 month journey for mi. it was meant to enhance my life not become it
I will continue to check levels in my blood but not often. only periodically or when something seems to have gone a rye

I have just been looking everywhere to see what my ketone levels are supposed to be to be in ketosis. Thanks for the information it's very helpful. I will continue to check my ketone and blood sugar levels to make sure that I am in the safe zones when fasting, but other than that, that won't give the value too much weight.

thanks for that video. I was worry about my ketone level 0.4( i working hard and also training 3 time per week). I have a lot of energy and i think i just use them ;) peaple on internet they talking only about this. they share own ketone level to be proud but you explain me now thats now inportant. I start keto to be healthy not to lose weight and this is my goal. one more time thanks for that important information. i gonna follow you chanel.

I totally agree that keeping protein high is important. I've always done it (25 years now) on a low carb diet and have always stayed lean, and strong.

I’ve been maintaining high ketone levels in the 3.2 range with normal glucose levels of 75-80 ml for 2 weeks now and have only dropped 2 lbs. So this video definitely makes sense.

I completely agree with you to focus on what you want to achieve and go for it rathern checking for ketone level and lose the sight for the target, this is what I will do because it works for me, excersise and eating right balance food and not junk food. Thank you for this
