This episode made Ross my favorite character
I love the detail that Ross calls Carol's parents by their first names. It's just a little touch that makes this scene feel so much more natural. If Carol was one of the main characters, this would be a whole plot point that would take up half the episode and involve a bunch of hijinks and a crazy romantic gesture. But since she's a side character and it's really a scene for Ross, this little plot point is condensed down to a conversation, which feels more close to reality.
This whole scene is nice. Not something that'd go on a top ten list, but definitely has that little touch that helped this show stand out back in it's time.

This is one of Ross's nicest moment. His ex wife is getting married with the person she cheated on him with, she comes to him when the wedding seems to be off and he comforts her, pushes her to still get married AND give her away. I'm not sure I would have been able to do that. THAT was a selfless deed.

The only reason it was treated that way is because she cheated with a woman and came out as gay so that made everything ok so of course they had to be all accepting etc-Although ill give the writers credit for keeping them together as a real love couple

well in fairness to him, he was drunk, depressed, and thought their relationship was over. but think about all the good ross has done.
1. he gave up being on live tv to bring rachel to the hospital
2. he bought phoebe her first bike, because she didn’t have one as a child
3. he stuck by and took responsibility for all the woman he got pregnant and was supportive of them
and countless more
now don’t get me wrong ross has done some questionable things. but i think all the characters in the show have too. i mean look at chandler, i loveeeee chandler, and he kissed joey’s girlfriend and when he was younger he made fun of monica for being overweight. idk. i think you have to really think about the circumstances. i love all the characters but i think they have all at one point or another have done some questionable stuff from time to time. not just ross. sorry for the rant i’m passionate about friends and i’m bored in quarantine 😂👏🤷♀️

Actually I think it's more appropriate to say he still loves her, despite not being in love with her.
Well he would always care for her as the mother of his first child. She didn't just cheat on him with someone else and leave him, she realised she was a lesbian and told him herself because that was how much she cared about his feelings too. Susan was the one who was being cruel to him at first but they put their differences aside because they both loved Carol. The "alternate timeline" Carol was an indifferent bitch who cheated on him for months without any qualms and even did it in front of him. Not the real one.
The show's creators were obviously way ahead of their time writing a lesbian wedding at the time when it was illegal in all of Nazi Germany....... oh sorry, Corporate America. If only more people were this accepting. And the irony is that in ancient times, homosexuality was widely accepted and practiced. It was just a bunch of beardy weirdy fuckers who came along and decided it was illegal. Who gave them that right, I'd love to know.

This always proved me how carol and ross are the couple that “matches together but aren’t meant to be”. I mean one episode where they were on a restaurant made me believed that they were supposed to be together. On the other hand, I think Ross and Rachel also looks good together.
Ross and Rachel might look good together but they are extremely toxic to each other. I never got why they are seen as "the couple", when we have Chandler and Monica. Or Joey and food.

If Ross and Rachel wouldn't have broken up in season 3 and stayed together, the show wouldn't have lasted even 5 seasons. And the reason they are 'the couple' is because they are iconic af. This was even proved in the reunion.

They were truly a couple only once in the entire series but they broke up because Ross slept with another woman based on a misunderstanding, in his mind he didn't cheat on Rachel but he still tried to apologise. But they still loved each other and at the very end they got back together for good. Sometimes it happens. But when television shows couples who break up and get back together countless times to the point of being ridiculous and glorifying them, then its bad.
@@TDKiller415 I agree with you. If they would have gotten back together sooner in season 8 or 9, fans wouldn't see them as toxic as they are seen now. The writers did them dirty. But then they were running out of ideas during the end of the show, so they just kept them apart to induce more drama.

If you think Ross and Rachel are toxic and were done dirty, you should look up Bette and Tina in The L Word and The L Word: Generation Q. They play mind games with each other, they cheat on each other, and when they want each other back they cheat on their current lovers with each other. They go back and forth like an endless cycle, and the problem is that because they both look so beautiful in bed together, fans glorify them as "endgame" even when Bette shows signs of being an abusive, jealous, obsessive, narcissistic sociopath and Tina is generally submissive and afraid to stand up to her, to the point that in Generation Q she begins putting Bette before her current fiancé, Carrie, who eventually gets fed up and calls off their wedding, and Tina ends up seemingly going back to Bette, the woman who ruined her engagement while screwing two other women in the meantime. And thats not a comedy, thats a drama series.

I love that Ross always didn't stop loving Carol, he wanted her to be happy no matter what.
I think here this show took an important step forward with this episode. Having a lesbian wedding when it was illegal and frowned upon. And how they subtly made the simple point of love is love no matter the gender when ross asked you love her right and that nothing should stop her from getting married to the love of her life.
Well, it wasn't illegal to have the wedding, they just didn't have the same legal status as straight married couples.

@Alan James it hasn't been legalized in India. The court hearing for it which was supposed to happen last week was postponed to 6th july. Homosexuality is what was legalized in 2018 in India. So not to be rude but educate yourself.
Yeah, it wasn't illegal to have a wedding, which is really just a ceremony, but the marriage would not be considered a legal marriage at that time. The difference between wedding and marriage can be confusing. Because at the wedding you would say they got married. But the legal system would not have considered them a married couple back then.

This is why I give Ross a break with the "we were on a break" situation, because he has to deal with Susan's crap. If it was Chandler or Joey I would have taken Rachel's side but Mark had the same intentions as Susan did.

Even though I'm with Ross on this one, I really don't think sleeping with another woman when you're on a break helps.
I don't care if they where broken up or not. My problem is he tried to hide it and then act like it wasn't a big deal even though he admitted he would have reacted negatively if Rachel slept with mark.She broke up because the trust broke not because of the break. He hid it, the copy girl was still there when rachel came over to reconcile, and he had made it seem like she wanted mark and not him.
Rachel wasn't carol. Yeah ross had the issues of the infidelity from his perspective (one part of carol and susan i didn't like was the infidelity. Otherwise I liked them) and he was scared but he didn't trust rachel. He didn't believe her, thought she liked mark, etc. Regard less of Mark's feelings, ross didn't trust rachel.
Also I feel like rachel evaluated everything and not just the copy girl. He hid it, he was possessive, he didn't trust her, he was jealous, he demeaned her job, and they had started fighting a lot. This probably tipped the scale for her

Ross should've trusted Rachel and not compare her to Carol. Because they are a different human being. And even though Mark has THAT intention the whole time, It still wouldn't happen without any cooperation from Rachel for the cheating to occur. I really think Rachel can't do such to Ross because he is not just the best boyfriend she ever had (due to his deep love and loyalty to Rachel ever since), but he's also her bestfriend. Sleeping with another woman a few hours after the breakup is something that makes the significant other doubt about your love. The best thing Ross could have done is to atleast wait for 24 hours to cool off their mind then talk. Then wait another atleast 1-2 weeks away from each other. To think if they still want to be together or not.
And as for Rachel. She is one of the people who knows Ross very well, and the struggles Ross have been through with Carol and Susan. She's supposed to be the one who should understand Ross more than anyone. Sorry to say it but I think Mona was a better girlfriend to Ross more than Rachel. Mona understood Ross more despite that she doesn't know alot about Ross compared to Rachel. He could have told Mona but unlike Rachel, she witnessed how Ross got hurt by Carol and Susan's relationship. Especially when the two decided to wed. And she even saw Ross took Carol down the Isle. She witnessed most of his downfall. The worst thing that she have done is giving Ross hopes everytime but when Ross finally tries to patch things up, she doesn't want him anymore. She only realizes that she wants him whenever Ross has someone that is willing to settle down with him. Ross tried to settle down with her and she even told her dad that It's Ross who doesn't want to be married to her.
Okay but seriously I kinda got respect for Ross on this.

I think it's because of his anger in later episodes and his trust issues when he was with Rachel. which I understand why he had trust issues since Carol left him and he started to worry that Rachel would do the same thing and no one helped him with his issues but instead just told him to get over it

Literally what I was thinking. Monica is my fave on this show, but I honestly despise her behavior in this scene. She agreed to cater and you already know she won't pay her friends who are now helping her with it. And the line "I realize you have a problem with Carol and Susan, but.." makes me grit my teeth every time.
I really like that how Ross is Caring and sympathetic for his friends and family. ❤️
