That happened to my teacher, who went to the U.S. on a scholarship grant, but when she was already there extremely longed to eat native Filipino dishes!
Powerful, Ladies and Gentlemen, I am a new fan. He is added to my list of idols , John Owen Jones, Ramin Karimloo, Earl Carpenter, Clay Aiken , David Phelps and now Lee Mead
I am American and just found Lee Mead and this song. It's so beautiful! Is it a patriotic song for the UK? It's June 2020, and all hell is breaking loose. Riots everywhere. Every nation needs to raise their voices in song for love of country! Show live and be thankful.
Lee Mead has a beautiful voice, and I believe he puts a great deal of feeling into the lyrics. If you don't enjoy it, it's your loss. Instead of critisizing Lee, why don't you bone up on your grammar?
That was amazing. Lee just gets better and better. A friend of my just put on Chess for his college thesis. Good singer, but not the same power as Lee.
Very, very nice! Just a thought: you do capture some of the passion written into this song, but if you look at the character in the showand why he is singing it, you realize there's the question: "YOU ask me, will I leave her. But, how?" I think he is perturbed that anyone would think he could ever defect, and that he is contemptuous of the question, in addition to passionate about his motherland. I think just a touch of that resentment and a touch MORE passion would suit this well.Great job!
This Anthem already has A country, and that is Sweden, Björn and Benny wrote this, in Swedish to start off with, as a tribute for their homeland, Sweden
+RachieAliette um. yes. that has nothing to do with the fact the original comment didn't know this was sung by a character in a Musical. .. and is sung about Russia..
as opposed to boning up on grammar, Lee Mead really should bone up much more on Judy Garland. He has a sweet voice, decent power (not quite enough for this song), but he has a good command of what he is able and not able to do vocally. He does need to open up his sound more, it will evoke his soul, and get the sound out of that whiny Eponine Le Miz caught in your nose, and is really dreadful. He does okay with acting the song, but has needs to understand what the lyricist wrote. Most singers when they sing this song ignore how brilliant the lyricist of Chess was/is. "Powers may Prevail" is to drumbeat consonants in very close proximity, this is a magnificent opportunity for a vocalist to act and shine, but often times these (and this song has a fair amount of interesting sounds to be played with and acted out) in this song the vocalist simply (and sadly) choose to simply sing this song, not act it out, with there voice being an instrument to bridge the music and lyrics. For many vocalist there are so worn out from the last few lines that they simply hold that last note out loud, boring. The word heart is a beautiful word, and if a vocalist takes a breath between my (what) heart (and starts loud, and decresndos all the way thru to the last beat, it a powerfully majestic way to end this song. I know this, because when i used to sing it, I would do for friends of mine in the Broadway community, and if a performer has the technique and strength to do this, the ending is so much more dramatically heightened. Again many things go back to Judy Garland. After listening to Lee do the traditional dumbed down tra la la la version of Any Dream will do (and yes i did see Bill Hutton on Broadway who outshines any other Joseph I have watched or heard), I went back to listen to Judy do As Long As He Needs Me, and what she does with a song both musically and with the lyrics is nothing short of (to quote James Mason about Judy Garland) "Profoundly Amazing" And do not get me wrong, I did happen to like Lee singing this song (not head over heels in love, but did like it), but I do believe with the right training, and if he works at it, he is capable of being so much more as a performer.
Much better than Groban... then again, that's not saying much. At points I utterly adore his voice, but at others it sounds nasal and constricted to the point of suffocation. I'm also not sure what's up with the American accent.
Lee interprets a song like no other can. Fantastic
Sung heartfelt. No rock screaming just a stunning vocal.
Great expressive singing from Lee. Hope he comes to Broadway soon. Terrific talent.
Absolutely stunning performance from a very talented gorgeous man.
Love Lee Mead
Wonderful voice, sings with real feelings.
A song for all those who have crossed over to other countries yet still love their own homeland :-) ... love it!
That happened to my teacher, who went to the U.S. on a scholarship grant, but when she was already there extremely longed to eat native Filipino dishes!

@@peachBloom It's a musical theatre song from musical Chess written by englishman Tim Rice and Swedish Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson.
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, LOOOOOVED IT!!!!! :D

Best version I've heard
No-one tops the original (Tommy Korberg) but this is mighty close! (saw Tommy live when Chess first came out)
One of the best renditions ever made. I dare to say the best after the original
I agree!
Ehy was this guy not performing at the Queens Diamond Jubilee Concert!
That was amazing. Lee just gets better and better. A friend of my just put on Chess for his college thesis. Good singer, but not the same power as Lee.

There is nothing to compare with Lee singing live!!

Um.. No.. Its written for Chess - A Musical.. sung by the Russian character.. for his country. Russia..
+Christopher Garcia Absolutely what Christopher said.
+Christopher Garcia Björn and Benny did write the musical though, you know that bit too, right?
+RachieAliette um. yes. that has nothing to do with the fact the original comment didn't know this was sung by a character in a Musical. .. and is sung about Russia..
The Swede the song itself is the anthem for Russia, performing by Anatoliy
thats how you sing a song.
Yum
its a little to simple for me I personally like it with a operatic voice like Roderick Dixon
I like this more than Josh Groban. It was simple and divine.
This isn't one of the better versions I've heard. But he done well in the last verse
He can sing but Anthony Warlow's version is better.

Good version but can’t beat Anthony Warlows version.

wwonka2 He isn't singing on broadway, so why would he be acting? His facial expression doesn't need to match the story...
not as good as Jai McDowall
He's good but Tommy is the Best.
Bland and emotionless
I want to like and unlike this at the same time 😅
Beautiful voice
