Darmanitan and Lokixx are proof that Abilities, Stat distribution and moves will always be >>> than BSTs , and Particularly stat distribution especially when you consider that Darmanitan and base Glalie have the exact same BST
Wo-Chien and Hoopa-U both have the problem of being slow mons that die to one U-turn. They're mostly just bad compared to comparable mons though, rather than being literally ZU. Could make a category just for base 670-680s that fail to be uber
Archeops has 140 Atk and 110 Speed, and it's stuck with an ability that does nothing but make it completely useless once its HP drops below 50%. Iron Moth has 140 Sp. Atk and 110 Speed, and it gets an ability that buffs its highest stat by 30% (50% if Speed) if one of two different conditions. #JusticeforArcheops
Even in his home generation he wasn't nearly strong enough to warrant the ability. Those stats are not legendary equivalent like Slaking, his bulk is not that great even if his type is pretty alright defensively
My proposed fixes for Slow Start and Truant are as follows: Slow Start - It starts the same, but your stats increase every turn until they are back to normal by 1/5th of the loss...rather than getting them all at once; and Truant - If this pokemon has woken up from sleep, the ability is ignored until it switches out.
let me try one on truant: - give it the unseen fist treatment where his attacks ignore protect should allow it to actually try to hit stuff as a nuclear option on the lower tiers
The best change for archeops I ever saw was on reddit of Archeops keeping the same effect that the ability has now but also giving it +2 Speed and a 30-50 BP pivot move that heals its hp a bit. It doesn't break it's gimmick either since it's implied to be a coward
The problem with Goodra is that its stats are in the wrong place. 100 attack is just wasted since his special moves are better and 80 speed is actually a really terrible speed tier because he gets outsped by most other Pokemon, but is also too fast for trick room. He would be great if some of his attack and speed were moved somewhere else.
Goodra not being part Water is so mindnumbing I'm convinced the programmera forgot to program it and once XY shipped they couldn't do anything about it.
Poison would also make sense since the dex mentions they are covered in poison, and hisuian goodra metal is literally poisonous mercury. And in gen 6, a poison type pseudo legendwry was very needed, but I guess they had to give poison dragon to dragalgee (not like we already had a dragon type sea horse, but having 2 poison dragons in the same gen would be too much repetition....)
I wish they changed Slow Start to half its attack and special attack. Hell, rename it to "Restraint" like the titan is holding back to give its opponent a chance before the 5 turns are up
I think the sudden shift to having progressively more and more OP legendaries and more min-maxed Pokemon after being somewhat balanced in Gen 4 was _because_ of the negative reception Regigigas got. The reason they gave most legendaries like Dialga, Palkia and Giratina the Pressure ability is because it's almost a non-Ability in their hands - giving them anything else would make them too overbearing. Just look at Kyogre and Groudon - Kyogre's automatic rain-setting allows it to remain viable in Ubers for over two decades, and Groudon's 21 year reign as the king of sun was only ended by Koraidon. But back on topic, it seems like people didn't want to use what Gamefreak viewed as "balanced" at the time. They _wanted_ to have Pokemon with more and more power. They WANTED to have 'Mons with 150+ base attacking stats and 130+ Speed getting buffs to their attacks anyway because OMG ITS SO POWERFUL AND SO COOL! Why? Because the primary demographic for Pokemon is ultimately kids. It's fine that they play for fun, but let's be honest - most kids, even up to the age of 12, aren't going to be able to understand the necessity of balance in competitive Pokemon like those in Smogon claim to. At its heart, multiplayer in Pokemon is a game where kids go head to head with other kids on the playground to see who's the very best, even if it means sending veritable gods at each other. For them, the default is Anything Goes, and Gamefreak probably doesn't want it any other way. Oh, and I wanted to add that Regigigas isn't just bad because of Slow Start, it's because until Gen 8, it didn't have any way to work around that Ability - for one thing, it was one of a small handful of Pokemon that could NOT learn Protect until then nor did it have any recovery outside of Rest. Granted, it does have access to Body Press to work around its halved Attack and Knock Off to be somewhat useful outside of doing damage, but that's it.
@j.b.5422 Yes, but it's HOW OP they've become. Take Miraidon, for example. It's got base 135 Special Attack and Speed, making it blazing fast and powerful. Its Ability summons Electric Terrain upon entry, and said terrain also boosts its already impressive Special Attack by 33%, while also boosting its STAB Electric moves by 30%. Then you have its signature move Electro Drift, which gets an ADDITIONAL 33% boost in power if it's super-effective. I don't think there's anything outside a Tera Raid that can survive a super-effective hit from that attack, especially if the Miraidon is a +SpAtk nature, 252+ SpAtk EVs, 31 SpAtk IVs, Tera-Electric and wearing Choice Specs. The power creep has gotten to the point where there are so many legendaries that just can't hack it in Smogon's Ubers tier that they've created Ubers UnderUsed, a tier for Pokemon that are too much for OverUsed to handle but also not good enough for standard Ubers play.
@@JanusHoW It's one thing to be OP, it's another thing to be balanced. And its another other thing to be Regigas. That mon is not balanced, let alone OP.
I've had a couple of ideas for how Meloetta's Pirouette Forme could used more, because I would love for it to be usable outside of 1 move. One idea I had was giving it a held item (that I call "Red Shoes"), which boosts the power of physical attacks used by Meloetta by 30%, while also changing its form. The other is having Relic Song change into a new move every time it changes form (like Relic Dance or something), which would be the same as Relic Song in terms of power and accuracy, but it's a physical move with a chance of confusion.
Relic song fix: -75 bp --> 100 bp -spread move -works off users higher attacking stat -no longer swaps forms. Meloetta now changes forms with either an item, or with some new mechanic to do it manually in battle. (Really want this to be the case)
Archeops has a special place in my heart for its Meteor Beam + Power Herb set. Reminds me of special attacking Regigigas to get around Slow Start, but too bad Defeatist halves Atk and SpA. GameFreak was really trying to kill this mon😂
She needs a new ability, Adaptability would be awesome Maybe Quiver dance and Victory dance for set up (dance is also part of an idol performance! And this enhances both her forms) Giving boomburst would be wild An signature ability like punk rock is a obvious choice Making Meloetta change before is so simple, but that alone would make her move to ubers, 128 attack/128 speed is OP!!
I thought of Meloetta a lot and how to improve it, since it's my favorite Pokémon. I thought of a signature Ability called Dance Mode. If Meloetta has a dance move in it's move set it will start the battle in its Pirouette Form. And since Meloetta learns Swords Dance this is no big hindrance.
It might just be my opinion, but I feel like as long as you're properly tiered in any format, you're successful as a Pokemon, since it's way better for the game to have different metagames in order to not have an inflated meta. I don't consider Goodra a bad mon since it's a menace in PU.
Nidoking is a great example of why it doesn’t need a High Base Stats because it just uses its Base 85 Special Attack instead of its Base 102 Attack which it never uses it in competitive. It’s because most or even every Nidoking no sets are Special Sheer Force Life Orb attacker. So technically it has a Base Stat total of 403 (took its 102 Attack stats).
@@somechupacabrawithinternet8866which part lmao? They're right, Nidoking's stats look underwhelming at first glance, but its insane movepool and great ability keep it relevant
Slaking/Regigigas are VERY reliant on any mon who can yeet their trashy abilities to the void like Grafaiai, decent Skill Swappers, or either variant of Weezing with Neutralizing Gas, which is why to me, it's a half-truth since they DO take some effort to become threats in Doubles, but it's definitely a case of high risk, high reward.
Would be interesting to see your take on which Pokemon have the balance of massive BST held in check by a limiting ability but are still competitively viable. That's a design space that TPC are always going to explore and I'm interested to know how many different ways there are to do it right.
Florges can have some funny actual usage of symbiosis with a Paradox mon as a partner. Give it Life Orb, and pass the orb when booster energy procs. I've used an expanding force team where I lead Iron Crown & Florges, then switch Florges out to Indeedee for big damage. Then Florges can come in later for helping hand & stuff.
Imagine if Meloetta's Relic Song had a power boost to 90 base attack and the Tera Blast effect where if used which ever attacking stat was higher. That way you'd get good damage regardless of form and have the versatility of both physical and special.
My conspiracy theory about Florges is that it was supposed to be a Fairy / Grass type, but the devs didn’t want the quad Poison weakness. Pity, would’ve been nice to distinguish Florges from the rest of the Gen 6 fairies.
Uxie and Mespirit are two that come to mind. They just don't really have any kind of niche. Azelf on the other hand gets everything they need to succeed. I've noticed that in all of the legendary sets one gets used more than the others, usually the one with offensive stats. Along those same lines, look at Wo Chen, stuck in PU because he's the designated 'defensive one' in the legendary set.
I remember being disapointed i had like the event setup for Meloetta at gamestop wrong. I think i had only the b/w cart while they wanted ds/3ds + card. But it seems in hindsight i havent missed much.
Well iiron thorns a lhas better typing than rock dark, what helps with ttar is the buff in spdef with sand helps with taking less damage from suoer effective damage, but on the physical side your wide open.
he isn’t that bad tho, just not as good as the other pokemons in his tier, crowned is A+ in the uubers viability ranking, so it’s still ok, and is the most used restricted legendary in the Indianapolis regional
As my favorite pseudo-legendary, Goodra's situation is so criminal to me. All it really needs is maybe a little more speed and a recovery move and it's set. Won't stop me from using it just because it isn't 'meta' though.
A mega honorable mention is mega garchomp because normal garchomp is considered better but what makes this a honorable mention is mega garchomp isn't bad its self just in a funny situation with it's normal form.
Just allow the 525 BST mons being the bare minimum, this would allow: Flareon - 525 Meganium - 525 Typhlosion - 534 Sceptile - 530 Electivire - 540 Magmortar - 540 Dusknoir - 525 Delphox - 534 Mega Audino - 543 Decidueye - 530 Inteleon - 530 Otherwise, there’s always Articuno, Regirock, Regice, Uxie, Mespirit, Reshiram, Kyurem-B (for the longest time it had no Ice STAB), Silvally, Guzzlord, Zamazenta, Brute Bonnet, Scream Tail, and Wo-Chien
Honestly I disagree with the Meloetta-P rating. It'd be an incredible pokemon had it not been locked to a move. 128 Spe outspeeds a myriad of OU pokemon, and 128 Atk is nothing to scoff on. It might not make the most out of Serene Grace, but it has a wide enough movepool to essentially negate it. It's like a worse Mega Lopunny, and Mega Lopunny is insane.
That is a big "what if" though. If it had access to that form without the downsides then it would probably be a pretty solid mon. But the reality is, it needs to carry Relic Song and use it to transform which really hinders its ability to get going and be usable over immediately threatening mons. Can't run a choice item on it, it changes back into its base form upon switching, just too much work.
@MattBudYT Nah I get that. I just feel like you were downplaying its positive aspects. I just think it's moreso a pokemon limited by a stupid gimmick than its stats. Normal Meloetta fits, Pirouette less so.
I'm surprised you didn't bring up mew aka infinite moves but no moves. Ever since gen 5 it hasn't been that good. but every gen it gets worse since it only learns tms not only that but they also started to delete tms gen 8 onward.
I have a lot more for a potential part 2. Mew may or may not make the cut. Historically it’s been solid though so not sure if I’ll include it over some of the worse options
Hey MattBud, a friend of mine was wondering if you were planning on doing a Top mate-able Pokémon list. I thought it would be an interesting video after my friend mentioned something about it. Great Vid Cheers!
Adaptability would be way more suited for Meloetta than Serene grace. It would be OP (fair for a PU mythical pokemon 💀) and suits it's concept of changing type and stats
According to a picture I found on reddit it says Gen 8 is 485 and Gen 9 is 490. Although their numbers for the other gens are slightly different from the picture in the video. If you want to check it out: www.reddit.com/r/pokemon/comments/1bobnps/oc_data_viz_pokemon_base_stat_total_bst/
It would come down to type, movepool, and abilities at that point. And what the stats look like. Say base 100 in all stats for example. Mons like Clefable would be even better and harder to break through. Offense would be harder without those high stats. Might be a good video premise to be honest
A good chunk I would say. It would be a less passive blissey essentially. Less special bulk but far better physical bulk. The main thing about Goodra is that it gets worn down too easily so recovery would be huge.
Florges outclassed bulky sylveon in gen 6 UU... Sylv is amazing in gen 6 uu but because of how good offensively it was as it was gen 6 pixelate.. In gen 7 both were similar in uu... I'm gen 9 early RU and NU despite flirg was better

How many times must I tell people there are NO bad fully evolved Dragon types. Goodra is also pretty good especially since no pseudo legendary Pokémon is bad due to their high stats and no Pokémon with high stats is truly bad especially if you can use them right. So I am afraid you are wrong there.
On the subject of Megas, Mega Garchomp was actually WORSE than regular Garchomp simply because trading raw power for speed makes it a sitting duck for a random Draco Meteor or Ice Beam and its Sand Force ability is less flexible than Rough Skin.

I remember being disapointed i had like the event setup for Meloetta at gamestop wrong. I think i had only the b/w cart while they wanted ds/3ds + card. But it seems in hindsight i havent missed much.
It’s not how strong a Pokémon is it’s how useful it is.
Well iiron thorns a lhas better typing than rock dark, what helps with ttar is the buff in spdef with sand helps with taking less damage from suoer effective damage, but on the physical side your wide open.
Based video. Love the channel
Nice vedieo as always your cotnet deserve 1 millon eith those editing
Thanks so much for the support bud❤️
Zamazenta gotta be one of the Best examples of great stats but just kinda bad
For having a good BST, a useful ability, and solid moveset, it really should be an ubers caliber mon.
At least it can hang in OU though
Zamazenta isn't bad anymore.
Zamazenta isnt bad he's just underwhelming for what he is
he isn’t that bad tho, just not as good as the other pokemons in his tier, crowned is A+ in the uubers viability ranking, so it’s still ok, and is the most used restricted legendary in the Indianapolis regional
@@MattBudYTBaically gen 5 Kyurem Black again
As my favorite pseudo-legendary, Goodra's situation is so criminal to me. All it really needs is maybe a little more speed and a recovery move and it's set. Won't stop me from using it just because it isn't 'meta' though.
If Goodra had a recovery move it would no doubt be a very viable special wall. Unfortunate situation there.
3:55 artist?
Sceptile. While getting banned from ZU it's ZUBL not PU. I really want thos mon rework but we know it's not possible
Meloetta will Def rise to nu once both reun and slowbro rise to RU.. Mon absolutely ruled nu 3 months ago
A mega honorable mention is mega garchomp because normal garchomp is considered better but what makes this a honorable mention is mega garchomp isn't bad its self just in a funny situation with it's normal form.
Just allow the 525 BST mons being the bare minimum, this would allow:
Flareon - 525
Meganium - 525
Typhlosion - 534
Sceptile - 530
Electivire - 540
Magmortar - 540
Dusknoir - 525
Delphox - 534
Mega Audino - 543
Decidueye - 530
Inteleon - 530
Otherwise, there’s always Articuno, Regirock, Regice, Uxie, Mespirit, Reshiram, Kyurem-B (for the longest time it had no Ice STAB), Silvally, Guzzlord, Zamazenta, Brute Bonnet, Scream Tail, and Wo-Chien
Normal Meloetta fits, Pirouette less so.
noones gonna mention the literal vore in there? bro just dropped that in there
blue great tusk at the very star of the video?? what was that about who was that
I'm surprised you didn't bring up mew aka infinite moves but no moves.
The takeaway I'm seeing is that it is often bad to specialize in Sp.Def

Blue great tusk? 0:07
Your channel randomly popped up and glad I clicked on it. Funny laid back informative vid. and always wondered why some Pokemon just don’t work
Glad to hear you enjoyed! Appreciate the comment and support!
Part 2 with more of these unfortunate Pokemon coming soon!
thanks for the video
Why was the great tusk at the start blue?
Idk how youre such a small channel, your editing and content is awesome
Appreciate it! Trying to make enjoyable videos and these comments keep the inspiration high
Still mad about how dirty they did my favorite Pokémon hoopa
Hey MattBud, a friend of mine was wondering if you were planning on doing a Top mate-able Pokémon list. I thought it would be an interesting video after my friend mentioned something about it. Great Vid Cheers!
I have the team working around the clock following my strict criteria to rank EACH POKEMON based on mateability. Just gotta be patient brother🙏
Adaptability would be way more suited for Meloetta than Serene grace. It would be OP (fair for a PU mythical pokemon 💀) and suits it's concept of changing type and stats
Swap Hoopa's Atk and Speed and give it an ability that grants it immunity to priority.
Even something that could be useful like Competitive or even cursed body would be an upgrade.
Or just give it Shadow Sneak.
Hoopa gets Magic Bounce.
Unbound gets Prankster
Volcanion gets Stream Engine
I personally enjoy the term frauds
Six seconds in and a q: What's the medians of gens 8 and 9?
According to a picture I found on reddit it says Gen 8 is 485 and Gen 9 is 490. Although their numbers for the other gens are slightly different from the picture in the video.
If you want to check it out:

Why did you do this
I used a meloetta in Indigo disk. It was so ass. Would be much better if it changed form with an item like Shaymin does
Yeah it wouldn’t be hard to do, and having the type change right away would save a moveslot from relic song.
Happy to have found your channel and subscribed! Hope you keep having success my dude! 😄
I would just like to say I am iron thorns strongest soilder in vgc. Is he bad, yes, but do I love him, also yes
But slaking and weezing
I'm Sorry I'm Dumb, But what does BST mean again?
Base Stat Total.
No worries! Thanks for watching bud!
@@MattBudYT Ok Thank You!
If all Pokemon had the same stats all around which would be the best?
It would come down to type, movepool, and abilities at that point. And what the stats look like.
Say base 100 in all stats for example. Mons like Clefable would be even better and harder to break through. Offense would be harder without those high stats.
Might be a good video premise to be honest
@@MattBudYT Hooray three hours plus rabbit hole of which mons would benefit the most and which would fall the hardest
How high would Goodra rise if it had recover?
A good chunk I would say. It would be a less passive blissey essentially. Less special bulk but far better physical bulk.
The main thing about Goodra is that it gets worn down too easily so recovery would be huge.
I just want Recover Aggron and Recover Goodra to glue a team down.
Once.
Honestly, I think Iron thorns would have been better if it was electric dark
Florges outclassed bulky sylveon in gen 6 UU... Sylv is amazing in gen 6 uu but because of how good offensively it was as it was gen 6 pixelate..
In gen 7 both were similar in uu...
I'm gen 9 early RU and NU despite flirg was better
Mega camerupt has stats for days but yeah
Potentially a part 2 mon
@@MattBudYT cool
@MattBudYT mega camerupt's slow speed made it really good in trick room in gen 7 and 6 vgc
@@arafzaman760 really good is way way way ecaurateteg
Why Base Stat Totals Aren’t Everything
Walking lando goes hard af
Hey are you from Ontario
I think Goodra just needed to not be pure dragon type . For all that pain to evolve in rain why isn’t it also part water type ?
Part poison would also be good
I was not prepared to see Landorus swagger
Regular Shaymin is definitely also in this category. Celebi possibly as well...
I wish Rampardos is so much better
If Slow Start lasted only 3 turns instead of 5, even that small change would be a significant buff for Regigigas.
To whomever read this,
I hope you a have wonderful day and no matter what stay happy as that is what matters most in life,
You are truly amazing and no one can ever take that away from you,
Be happy and enjoy life,
We don't have long on earth so make the most of it,
We’re all gonna make it brah 👑

One day you will get to OU goodra, onr day
that lando-t walk caught me offguard
Slaking and Regigigas don't have abilities they have disabilities
How many times must I tell people there are NO bad fully evolved Dragon types. Goodra is also pretty good especially since no pseudo legendary Pokémon is bad due to their high stats and no Pokémon with high stats is truly bad especially if you can use them right. So I am afraid you are wrong there.
drudigon...
@@xxroditoxx3710 Wrong that Pokémon is NOT terrible.
If gamefreak would have given mega glalie 120 speed. It could nuke entire community
Damn the power creep got insane.
On the subject of Megas, Mega Garchomp was actually WORSE than regular Garchomp simply because trading raw power for speed makes it a sitting duck for a random Draco Meteor or Ice Beam and its Sand Force ability is less flexible than Rough Skin.
