It kills me that even though she said that she would rather die than be touched by a man again, she knows what the sign is and refuses it. She was a survivor through and through, which makes the pointlessness of her death all the more heartbreaking.

I'm usually not very attached to death in shows but the way she signed back some form of disagreement , decided to still trust someone she probably perceives as a man, believing she will be protected and ended up still dying in vain from the same person, who was actually a fellow woman acting under the request of her guardian who genuinely loves her will definitely keep me up at night

I think she also might be shaking her head no, as in, she's scared to die. "She would rather die than be touched by a man again." The signing of who she's with, gives me that impression. Because even if they kill the boss, there will be another lord like him.

To be fair, if she wanted boss Hamata dead, that means asking Mizu to take on the whole army... Mizu can take on armies, but she might want to avoid getting so hurt, she can't enact her revenge. And the woman requesting it has no reason to believe Mizu can kill all of them, so making a request within reach, is more reasonable.

To think that her death wasn't worth it not just for one but two reasons:
1- Mizu was spotted by a boy she wasn't willing to kill (And he saw her blue eyes too) and the ambush ultimately happened.
2- She was able to defeat the whole army and allow Kaji and her women to kill Kinuyo's kidnapper personally. Not only did the ambush happen but they managed to defeat them all anyway.
If Mizu just brought Kinuyo home and promised Kaji she would defend them all from Boss Hamata and his men, Kinuyo would be safe and sound.

    • @antithoughtpolice7497
      @antithoughtpolice7497 7 місяців тому +21

Yeah, but Mizu was insanely injured from that fight, and no one would of expected her ACTUALLY take all of them on, AND live. So the Madam's request had to be practical. She already said the house would be in danger if just boss died and Hinuyo was rescued, but Hinuyo also can't survive on her own, and would likely just be bought again.
Then, there's the fact Mizu, after all that fighting, says something that wouldn't of changed anything before this anyways: she's on the path of revenge, not an honorable samurai. Even though killing Kinuyo like this impacts her, it's not enough to stray her from her ultimate goal. She wouldn't set aside revenge to save her.
And that fight was a lot. Mizu is an impressive swordsman, but she knows she's not invincible, so it's reasonable she'd attempt to avoid an army.

I was filled with immense pride watching this scene in the show. It truly sets Mizu apart from all the typical Mary Sues in Hollywood today. This kind of situation is rarely given to characters like Ray. They don't often find themselves in a position where they have to make such a difficult decision. The show deliberately chose not to have it both ways, recognizing that it would compromise its integrity. Mizu's relentless pursuit of revenge knows no bounds. If she had restrictions and limitations like modern-day heroes, her story would lose the intricate complexity that defines her. By confronting Mizu with the moral dilemma of killing an innocent person to achieve her goals, the show opens up a candid and thought-provoking discussion about her actions. This path allows for an exploration of Mizu's choices and their consequences in a more honest and revelatory manner. Although she hesitates momentarily, her insatiable thirst for vengeance ultimately overpowers any reservations she may have had. And now, she must face the repercussions of her actions.

If they have the capacity to be their own judge or not??? Or do their own choice... bethrothal of disabled Young or Older people with handicaps does happen and people find ways to dispose or move responsibility for their care to other much older and responsible and irresponsible adults. And even us citizens who are parents or in countries with more human rights have to conduct or reasonably look at the situation if their disabled child are fit to marry, live with them, have children, have good healthcare, and quality of education that their offspring with receive irrelative or irrespective of their state, economic, education, social, etc status. You can't grow old with an adult child with a severe disability while you yourself are struggling to survive...on meager or disabled or in severe limitations...do you allow them to forge their own independent path or leave them alone to their well-being or do you have them taken care of by a third party... regardless of who they are... Like parents with kids that enter their early and late 20s, might be better off having their disabled kids know how to fully function and manage themselves, and for those with severe limitations or disabilities...better off that these kids get put in a group home or get insurance or find someone to take care of them if they the disabled adult kids do not have insurance...or better yet. Ask the universe to allow them to be taken care of when you can't do it yourself... nature's course...alot of people in lower social economic status don't have a choice of who cares or how they care for their disabled children or how children care for themselves...I can tell you this because I personally fret over families with disabilities who have no choice, and it's hard to think of doing difficult and often hard decisions...myself included...what to do when the time comes to make a choice...I often think who will take care of an older family member (Female) or will they do it themselves and the issues surrounding them making their own choices in many life aspects and areas. It sure stresses me out and gives me sleepless nights. These are often difficult questions to ponder about and I think I'd like to ask if people have a choice or not. It really matters and it depends if the individual in question with disabilities has core competencies and can handle themselves in situations by themselves independently regardless of environment, situation, conditions, etc without full or limited environments or every body else.

Kaji was the true villain of this arc.

    • @ann6878

She wasn’t an intentional villain, which makes it sadder. She couldn’t have Kinuyo back in her care again. If she was back with Madame Kaji she wouldn’t have been safe from the violence & misogyny hurled to women of their status. Not to mention Kinuyo is deaf, which makes her vulnerable to three intersections of oppression. Ableism, misogyny, & classism. As far as Madame Kaji knew, Kinuyo was doomed.

@@ann6878 Another way to look at it was her wanting the deaf girl dead for taking her place with a rich powerful man. Deaf girl seemed fine with her new life. And the rich guy was willing to kill everyone for her. Kaji and the rich dude are no better or worse than the other, but the series wants us to think otherwise...

@@spykemxd Have you even seen the episode? Boss Hamata takes half of what the brothel earns, and sometimes more than that. Madame Kaji knows that, and it is clearly implied she personally needed to fulfill Hamatas wishes.
Plus, Kinuyo seems far from happy with her life with him by the looks on her face and body language.
We are also shown the care Kaji shows while teaching Kinuyo how to pour tea, while Hamata is killing of multiple people with his arms.
Hamata wants to kill everyone because of revenge, and power, because he is used to violence through his army gives power and fear.

Honestly seeing how they made Mizu so overpowered and a Mary Sue, she might as well have just stormed in, killed all the bad guys like she did when they came to the brothel and then rescued Kinuyo. What was even the point of sneaking in and breaking her neck?

I don't thinks she's much of one. Mizu only got this far with the help of her companion(s). When she was injured from the assassination attempt, when arrows were flying towards her, it was Ringo who had to help her and Taiga or she would've died. Plus, in many of her fights, she's walked away with some form of injury. She's not completely overpowered
