anime name: Maquia: When the Promised Flower Blooms
i cry a lot of times when editing
Maquia's tribe think that meeting new people always leads to sad goodbyes. They also believe that falling in love will make them feel completely alone. Over the years, Maquia meets many people and experiences goodbyes. She finds a different answer to the tribe's fears. She learns that keeping memories means you're never really alone. She also learns that as long as you remember someone, their story never really ends.

Dang too many tragedies in that anime.
Girl A : 1. kidnapped, 2. forced to birth a child, 3. never allowed to meet/bond with her child, 4. final parting with her true love because she desperately wants to save her daughter, 5. the daughter she gave everything up for has no recollection of her.. Absolutely tragic.
Girl B: 1. her lover falls for her bestfriend, 2. she is stranded from her homeland, 3. hardships of a mom / cant find work, 4. witnesses the death of her son.
Boy C: 1. his lover and kidnapped and forced to birth a baby, 2. she chooses a child over him (which he cant understand due to lacking parental instincts), 3. his tragic murder while hopelessly alone.
I mean this feels more tragic then a shakespearean story lol. Interesting how all fo this was weaved into one story of pain and grief, and that ultimately no one got to stay with the person they loved the most. All of them just felt pain in the end but had no choice but to let time heal them (if they were lucky enough to live). Interesting plot for sure.

I feel like I'm strange for not finding stories like this enjoyable. I understand the messages it's conveying; it's important to enjoy the time we have with each other, life is forever changing, better to experience love and friendship than to live a life without... but it's so bittersweet and sad. My real life has been filled with moments similar to the ones in this movie, I've been dealt bad hands in life many times (as have others), but I don't enjoy or want to re-live those painful experiences. I don't like reflecting on how needlessly cruel life is, why can't we have stories that reflect on the rare times in life that things go well? Not necessarily like perfect fairytale endings, just those victories we're sometimes afforded.

I don't think you're wrong for not enjoying this movie. It may have its beauties, but that doesn't exactly mean it increases the desireability of rewatching it. For example, City of God was a great movie about a dude growing up in a gang and poverty ridden Brazilian slum. But I wouldn't view a second of that again, because that made me feel miserable.
And this movie appears to have been a massive tragedy.
Furthermore, I'm gonna say it, cause no else here will:
Krim gets cucked to death. Thats his entire life and role in this movie.
I have a fan theory that he gets reincarnated as the hermaphroditic angel Krim from Interspecies Reviewers. Because thats the only compensation I could think of him getting, for the massive "L" his life was in this film.

I cried a lot watching this movie, and I may the only one to say this... But I feel extra bad for Krim.
He was so desperate to make thing be the way they where he never understood Maquia and Leila feelings, and that lead him to his death. The way he said "why did time have to move?" really hurted, he just wanted that simple and happy life before the humans raid on his clan. I know this feeling so well, I know how is to have this fierce desire for things to be back the way they were, especially after a terrible tragedy.
However, that's not how life works.
His development on the movie shows us what happen when one is so stubbornly stuck in the past. The endless searc for things that aren't anymore will only lead to never get what can be on today. He could had been on that dragon with Maquia and Leila at the end, finally free to live with the woman he loves and re-build their clan, but his blindness doomed him to an ending where he not only dies, he is also completly alone and submerge in sadness.
I feel bad for him, not because of his death, but because I know that was purely a consequence of his own actions and choices. And is sad to see someone refusing to let go and drowing themselves bc of that.

I have a soft spot for family, they are my most treasured thing in this world. The fact that one day me, my parents, and my siblings all gonna go our separate ways just makes me sad. The fact that all of us will part ways from this world is just depressing. This movie truly reminded me all of this. I am crying right now 😭.

The nice thing about growing old is that you and your siblings can still be family. It's just choosing to be in each other's lives and to be close instead of being forced to. I have a wonderful relationship to my brothers. We are all adults now and live separately, but we are still close. One day we'll lose each other but like the hibial, we'll carry each other's memories and weave them into our own loved ones who will carry us with them. And that is important

A phrase I came across some time ago that I find comforting is, "It's never enough time, but you still had it." That is, you can accept that you'll always long for more time with those you love, while also appreciating the time you do have with them. Knowing it will never be enough helps me appreciate every moment I have with family and friends as a priceless, irreplaceable gem. I'd much rather have had a finite amount of love than none at all ;D

I must say I understand you dude, I truly do. I also have soft spot for family and love them more then even myself, so when something happens to them, especially somthing bad, my heart breaks and soul weep. If I could stop the time when I was little (six or seven years old) and I have the most happy times with my family I would do it already. Truly I would like to stay with my entire family forever. But I know that in mortal world it won't be quiet possible, as time passes and people age. Because of that I tresure every little moment that I have with my family and engrave them in my heart. But being a religious person I belive and have hope that when the time will come, and I will have to let go of my mortal shell, I will meet again with my WHOLE family (I mean both my biological family and also my best friends that become part of said family) in the pure and eternal land of Heaven where I will have enternity for them. So ending my emotional ramble few advicec:
      1. Tresure your family (no metter if biological or not) as it is your gratest tresure in this mortal world.
      2. Live a good life so in the end you could feel pride instead of shame.
      3. Avoid evil things that could and will corrup your life, in the end destroing it.
And last 4th advice: Have a little faith (I don't mean here that you should become a devote, but instead have this little hope even if would like a pointless thing, that in the end you will meet with your loved ones again. It will give you just enough streangh to push forword.)
Thats all of my emotional rambling, and giving advicec. The only thing left to say is that:
Good day and good night wherever you are. 😉

UA-cam randomly recommended this, and now I know what I’m going to find and watch online later!
I think, just from what the review mentions, that Maquia’s experiences can be equated to owning and loving a pet, for humans, or at least, that is one way to understand it. We aren’t immortal in the same way, but we do become the “parent”, and then companion of a creature we love deeply, and as much as we grieve when we lose them, most of us choose to keep going with sharing our lives with them. Obviously, with other human like beings, things are more complex, particularly in terms of timespan, but as a rough understanding, I think it works okay as an analogy.m
Obviously, there’s the aspect of living and losing another person, particularly a child, but that sense of outliving your own “baby” really makes me think of animals I’ve loved, raised and lost, since we don’t typically lose our children in this day and age, and when we do, it’s rare enough that we’re rightfully horrified by the tragedy.

I loved the idea behind the movie so much that i had to steal it and throw it into an own story around immortality and slavery
    However
I feel like a bunch of heavy themes got left out or ignored. Like how nobody really tried to revolt out of the Iorph. How Leila or what her name was got abused for ages. How they got kidnapped at all. Like sure, they (Maquia) had to make the best she could out of it but why was she so submissive to all of this? I would have wished a more insightful ending to be honest. Nobody really talked with each other.

Thanks for letting me know about this anime. I really love story with immortality/long-lived theme. They stir up my heart in a way that no other theme had. It griefs me when everyone left the immortal character and he/she could only continue to live through it. But all the beautiful memories they had spend outweight the sadness of it. These kind of stories make me sad, but also giving me reason to continue to live, to cherish every moment of it.

I like emotional story like that one episode of Evergarden where the mother writting letters, Koe no Katachi, Somali to Mori, etc. but this movie is for me the same as Kimi no Nawa where I feel the story is too forced. Maybe I need to watch it again Idk, someday maybe.
