Western Maryland 1309: The McHugh Steam Special

Honoring a local contractor Jim McHugh from McHugh Locomotive & Equipment, WMSR & McHugh setup a private photo event with the 1309 wearing a " McHugh Steam Special " Banner on the Front of the Engine and on the side of the cab. We were lucky to be invited to this event but instead of riding with the participants because of time, We decided to chase the 1309 to Frostburg which doing shots we never done with the engine. Lets follow the 1309 & WM 501 up the mountain to Frostburg. Enjoy!

Was this McHugh fellow a key part of the restoration or something? A pretty big honor to do an event of this size for him. On a different note, isn't 1309 the second largest operating steam locomotive on earth now, after Union Pacific's Big Boy 4014?

J.C. McHugh is owner and operator of McHugh Locomotive & Crane; a contractor for the railroad who donated lots of parts and equipment to the railroad, such as the new tank car the railroad just unveiled, as well as his expertise with diesel locomotives. To further help them out, he made a deal to have a steam charter featuring 1309.
And yes, 1309 is now the second largest operating steam engine, only rivaled by the sometimes running Big Boy.
