It's amazing how I interpret that whistle. It's like the locomotive expresses it's sadness and anger at the same time, being sad because the golden age of steam is gone long time ago, the cry for all the steam locomotives that are long gone and being angry at the diesel locomotives who pushed steam out of service. Amazing for a single-chime Hooter.
Wow I didn't know that his steam engine was on the the old C&O line before moving over to the Western Maryland line. This steam locomotive looks really cool. Great footage and a fantastic video good sir.
A very well done video. Great locations and focus on the big girl moving along. Good job! It's just my opinion, but I think they should have mounted an authentic Western Maryland whistle on her to give her her own identity.
Pretty sure the issues people have with it are more to do with how many delays the rebuild had over the engine itself. Once it gets some more running in for the year, people should be more impressed by it
From what I recently learned, any newly restored locomotive is subject to failure due to not being thoroughly tested over a long period of time, but luckily, it looks like that hasn't happened. Either way, yes, 1309 is doing the pulling to Helmstetter's curve.
I was wondering, what day or days were you there? I’m only asking as my and my friends were there on the 18th and I wanted to know if we missed you or not.
@@DynamoProductions-trains When was the last time "it" was used as I remember a trip using GTW 6323 who took on water in Durand, MI back somewhere in 1960-61 from a similar "plug" and on it's way to Detroit, MI, and her injectors "plugged-up" about half way there and they had to dump the fire. 'Reason being is that I'd hate to see something similar happen to 1309 but make NO MISTAKE... water has all kind of "slimy-shit" in it, especially if it isn't used periodically. Most all the roads used "water-bricks" that they tossed into the tender BEFORE they added water, but if you're putting in "slime", the bricks ain't gonna do you no good...just be REAL careful and run the Poage extensively before putting it in "baby"
It doesn’t matter, it’s too much locomotive for any tourist railroad or class one to really consider operating. Before you bring up 1218 or 4014, those are the exceptions, not the rule.
Will anybody enlighten me as how come bell ringing in locos, there is none such thing in here, India? I'm asking this question for nearly a decade I say.
What crack? Thats just were the exterior boiler plates meet. They are just there so it looks smooth, there is no crack, as the actual boiler is hidden by the plating

Awesome Video:) I'm glad to see 1309 back and running again, its an amazing Baldwin steam locomotive.
Glad you enjoyed
That thing is AWESOME! I can’t wait to go see it!
Definitely worth checking out
This looks like a good one for a future fan trip.

The fact twelve people didn't know 1309 was built for C&O is astonishing to me
Wait until they find out about Lake Superior & Ishpeming 34
@@DynamoProductions-trains I still think they should restore her original look just to confuse all the people who think WMSR actually uses WM steam

I like the hooter, it's appropriate for an Appalachian articulated, especially a C&O one.
Fantastic video guys! Was good seeing jon again for the first time in a while. Hope yall have a merry christmas.
Glad you enjoyed
hello from Moscow! my son Lev, 1.5 years old, loves your channel, loves locomotive! I love Maryland! 🇷🇺🇺🇸💪
Thank you. Glad you two are enjoying our videos.
I got to see this old girl running today at Helmstetter curve. She's made a lot of us locals very happy!
I wish I could’ve gone. Definitely gonna see her next year.
Nice footage. Let's hope 1309 steams on for many years to come.
After all that time and money put into it, certainly. We will definitely be back filming in 2022
Finally. I thought I’d never see C&O now WM 1309 chugging on the WMSRR. What a perfect debut. Becoming the Polar Express.
Very nicely filmed, a fantastic video.👍👍👍🎥
Merry Christmas.🎅🎄🎄
Thank you very much. Hope you'll enjoy more of our videos to come.
Love the whistle

Well I never thought they’d do it but they resurrected another beast from the dormant iron horse stables of Baltimore.
An Honorable Salute from me to You and Eau!
East coast meet up for the entire Dynamo Crew to photograph 1309? That sounds like a great idea 😀
We’re all for it
Awesome video.

Phenomenal video! Glad to have seen 1309 in operation!
Thanks
That whistle is horrific somebody get a five- chime whistle on that locomotive with the quickness
Can't wait to see what the future has in store for 1309 at WMSR.

734 used to be Mountain thunder now it’s 1309 turn to run the railroad 🚂⛰⚡️
734 was flogged pretty hard.well earned rest.hopefully a full rebuild
Would love to hear that J1 Potomac Whistle back on her!
Same here
Why do people hate on 1309 so much, it looks amazing
Pretty sure the issues people have with it are more to do with how many delays the rebuild had over the engine itself. Once it gets some more running in for the year, people should be more impressed by it
Good to have another articulate steam engine running
The whistle sounds like the n&w 1218
It’s the same kind of whistle, a Norfolk & Western hooter
As bad as we have all seen WMSR in recent times, at least they have a operating steam locomotive now
So, probably a dumb question, but is 1309 pulling everything? Or are the diesels helping? Or are they just there in case 1309 breaks down
The diesels are there as backup and to pull the train back to Cumberland.
From what I recently learned, any newly restored locomotive is subject to failure due to not being thoroughly tested over a long period of time, but luckily, it looks like that hasn't happened. Either way, yes, 1309 is doing the pulling to Helmstetter's curve.
Another one yes

We were filming on Saturday and Sunday
❤❤❤
Not only that 1309 holds the rails better than 734 because it has two trailing wheels and it's a 2662
we all made fun of 1309 but ngl it's nice having it done. if only they could turn it around
Just have to fix the track to the turntable… it is in the plans!
Does the old poage, (sp?) waterspout still work at Cumberland?
The spout still works and was used throughout the weekend

Last time it was used was April 2016 when 734 made its last trips.
Now to get one of the surviving Allegheny's running
Considering the 1309 is estimated to have cost 3.5 million to restore, I can’t imagine an Allegheny being much better
@@DynamoProductions-trains tbh all the surviving alleghenys are on display indoors, so i dont expect them to be in bad condition.

@@DynamoProductions-trains it would be different if CSX had a steam program
Always nice seeing fans telling companies how they should spend their money
Who would of thought this engine would be paired with a CSX hitting a crossing
The diesel locomotives on the tail end I'm guessing are for electricity and dynamic braking?
They’re there as backup and to pull the train back down the hill
@@DynamoProductions-trains Oh okay, that makes perfect sense now. That Hooter whistle echoing through the mountains is majestic.
Back when you really had to know about mechanics and measurements. A basic blue collar requirement that helped build America!
Wait wheres 734?
Awaiting rebuild.
I wonder if 734 double heading with 1309
That’s years away if it ever happens
Ok
Why not all the way to frostburg?
Because Helmstetter’s is where they set up the North Pole. It also allowed them to run more trips each day
Is that a leak on her left side?
There’s always steam coming out of something, especially in the cold
@@DynamoProductions-trains oh, thank god it isnt a leak
big boy?
No
Will anybody enlighten me as how come bell ringing in locos, there is none such thing in here, India? I'm asking this question for nearly a decade I say.
The bell is a warning device, used mostly when the engine is starting up movement and at crossings.
