A series that was determined to make itself timeless, and it definitely succeeded in its first season. I loved everything about this series from being a superhero rom-com that wasn’t the norm at the time to being indirectly responsible for the Death of Superman comic. This had a lot of influence.
@@ctrlaltdelete200390 so, Superman media was at an all time high by the time Lois & Clark was being made: the comic book was rebooted and gave Superman his more well known and now standard powers (and got rid of his more obscure ones), cartoons were being made, etc, it was just a really good time to be a Superman fan. The comics had progressed to a point where Superman and Lois were in a relationship, and lead to Clark proposing to Lois and she accepted. At this point, the writers were planning to make the next round of stories for the following year to lead up to the two characters have their wedding. This was when Lois & Clark was being written and filmed. Now, one of the writers in particular (I can’t remember his name for the life of me) always started their meetings with the same suggestion every single time: “LET’S KILL HIM OFF!” And the other writers would basically say, “That’s very nice. Here’s a cookie, go sit in the corner, the grown-ups have to work now,” and from there they’d proceed to make scripts for the rest of the year, etc. The writers submitted their plans and what they wanted to do, but the higher ups interfered and told them not to do it; they wanted to wait until Lois & Clark built up enough momentum to where they’d have their own wedding, and cash in with their own wedding story. This was a problem for the writers because their whole plan was the wedding, and they didn’t have any ideas at that point. Cue the aforementioned writer with his usual, “LET’S KILL HIM OFF!” And the rest of the writers admit that they weren’t sure if they were desperate, fatigued, frustrated, or what, but after that suggestion they all looked at each other and said, “…Yeah…LET’S KILL HIM OFF!” And from there, they wrote the Death of Superman.
I like to imagine there's no context or lead up to this scene. Clark just shows up in a random guy's living room and says "you wanna know how strong I am?"

Now, one of the writers in particular (I can’t remember his name for the life of me) always started their meetings with the same suggestion every single time:
“LET’S KILL HIM OFF!”
And the other writers would basically say, “That’s very nice.
I’d like to know how this show led to “The Death of Superman” too.
I'd also like to know how this led to the Death of Superman comic.
Crickets! I call bullshish on your analysis of these depictions. Death of Superman, my arse!!!
This is the superman I grew up watching. It actually felt like superman to me, and Lois Lane was so beautiful.
I like to imagine there's no context or lead up to this scene. Clark just shows up in a random guy's living room and says "you wanna know how strong I am?"
Superman flies out the window, Luthor hears a muffled sound next door “You wanna know how strong I am Johnson?”
Supes did say Luthor, Implying not a random guy
Have met John Shea when he was flying out of Stansted airport not long after the series finished in the UK. Top bloke, more than happy to talk about the series and his other projects. Total gent.
That's nice to hear. Glad he's still working too.
Dean Cain don't get enough props, he was a good superman
Doesn't
I was always a fan of the slicked back hair superman
Yeah, my mother and I were big fans of Lois and Clark, but or favorite TV Clark will always be Tom Welling 😊
@@evisule84hahaha, nice one 👌🏾
@@JGUSMC7 The slicked back hair was interesting, giving him an air of artificiality, while Clark Kent's hair was natural, suggesting that was his real personality, and Superman was the disguise. Christopher Reeves' Superman was the opposite: Clark Kent had the slicked back hair while Superman's was natural, suggesting that was his real personality, and Clark Kent the disguise.
I love this show. When it aired i would beg my parents to stay because it was past my bed time. This series is absolutely top tier live action superman
same. I'd make sure there was nothing my parents could nitpick why I couldn't watch it, then it was straight to bed
So criminally underrated, for both portrayals.
😑🙄🔥
Not white not white not white not white not white not white not white not white
Best Clark Kent in my opinion. Despite the hair the best live action portrayal of Lex.
I love this show. As a kid I would watch it every Friday night with my Grandmamma, mom and brothers..it was a great time.
Good times, sir. Good times.
This was my Superman growing up, too. I miss the excitement of settling down to watch another episode.
@cpowell7623 yeah thats for sure..the good o'le days

@stevedawelda9036 Grandaddy was sleeping usually by then and Dad, well dad wasn't there my friend.
The look on Luther's face as Superman aims the gun at him......this show was good.
Me: Who is your favorite Superman?
Comment section: Lois Lane.
This show ranges from meh to good, but Teri Hatcher is definitely the best actress ever to play Lois. John Shea's Lex is up there too.
@@craigrussell3062agreed and John Shea definitely looked like Gene Hackman, and a few years later he went on to star in a tv series called Mutant x based on the x men pretty much.
And the writers *KNOW* that.
@@craigrussell3062 not for me but she looked it.
I would watch this show every Sunday night on ABC. Fun show, great chemistry between Teri and Dean especially.
Incredible chemistry, they always put a smile on your face.
did you know what's scarier than injustice superman ?
Yes, superman with a gun
I was disappointed they didn’t include this show in the flash multiverse scene. Loved it when I was younger and was robbed of the conclusion for the cliffhanger when they cancelled the final season.
Probably didnt want to include Dean Cain as he is an outspoken Christian Conservative who supports Trump
@@GCEXTREMEMN oh no they didnt include him in their woke bomb starring a retarded criminal. what now?!
@@GCEXTREMEMN exactly, they would rather defend the pedo "they them" cultist nut job violent criminal.

@@GCEXTREMEMN BS. He was on Supergirl. They didn't have him play Superman again because he wasn't in shape for it and they couldn't afford the CGI.
He said "probably". @alphanerd7221
This is the superman I watched growing up
Lol i remember he was running up the stairs while changing into super man. If i remember correctly. There was one to with a elevator Clark goes in super man comes out
Pretty sure I seen this live with my folks and younger sibs.
Maybe the only tv shows we treated as a weekly movie...popcorn treats etc and everyone present.
Only time the "same bat time" nonsense actually applied
For me it’s Christopher Reeve all day. I was already grown by the time this came out.
Me too
@@jnnx
What happened to reeves was so random and unfortunate. I grew up at the tail end of his tenure and dean caine ended up being just as memorable to me just with the amount of time. Imho lois and clark was the best live action super hero series in 40years.
Dean Cain was great at Superman when he was a pissed Superman. I loved that he didn't let Lois get away with her crap either. He was the best of both worlds. A non simp Superman! Love it!
Facts
And now he's a Trump supporter to top it all off
@@philrivers7533 Makes sense. He is all for liberty and people of all creeds, instead of corrupt politicians and liars who shroud themselves with fancy words and platitudes.
I like him even more because he actually stands for the things Superman does
Ok I hope you're all trolling me because I used to love Dean Cain. He's my favorite superman. Don't make me hate him.😢
Superman shooting Lex Luthor but catching the bullet a 1/2 second before impact Outstanding demonstration
That bullet scene was actually dope
That show definitely had the hottest Louis Lane 😍
Lois.

@@connormcgettigan7288Lois & Clark tv show. A bit cheesy but a ton of fun
@@SirGambitRocks thanks man, I'll definitely give it a peep
Never ending battle is one of the best lois and clark episodes: This scene is boss ❤. And the look on Lex's face when bullet stops inches from his chest is hysterical 😂
The pistol demonstration was next level
Absolute menace for that one mf knew he could’ve caught the bullet sooner too
I’m not sure if Batman would be proud of that or not
This showed superman's human side. He seemed angry here, like he was beginning to lose his patience. Yes, he was willing to shoot Lex, but only to prove a point. The fact that he instantly caught the bullet reminds us all that he's still Superman, and his morals will always supercede his abilities.
Writers for Superman never forget to depict how people constantly try to take advantage of and bully good men like him. It doesn't even matter that he's literally fucking Superman, some people will STILL mistake his kindness for weakness.
Without the context this looks like superman just got drunk and is showing off😂
The best and I mean best ( never to be topped) Superman series. This one kept us entertained in the 90s. Today's super hero movie makers can learn a lot from this. Thanks for the scene it was and is iconic.
"Superman... This is a Wendy's"
Superman at Waffle House be like
No this is Patrick..
"Wendy's, huh? Sounds like you wanna know how *HARD* I am?..."
This version of Lex Luthor was great
Most underrated and unappreciated!! Imo he was better than Rosenbaum
This is the kind of Superman we need. One who will shoot you and catch the bullet before it touches you.
Basically a Superman who makes death threats?
No?
Saving you from all the dangers that he creates for you!!
No we need a supersimpman thats not chasing lois and actually marry or get with someone who's not going die in 89 years
@@slavdef No. Why would you say such nonsense?
Policeman: “Soooo..... what happened?”
Superman: “Turns out I'm not faster than a speeding bullet.....”
Physically it might not have been a good Lex Luthor. But he's one of the best we've had in the last 20 years. This actor played that role very well
John Shea was Excellent on this Series.
@@kaisersoze8132 hè really played that role well. With a good amount of arogance and flair.

Lois and Clark. LOVED this iteration of Superman
Still the best TV show version of Superman to date.
dean cain's superman feels like it could evolve into multiple of the other supermen with time.
physique-wise, he hasthe hair and the barrel chest that George Reeves' superman had. mannerism-wise i could buy this being a young Chris Reeve's superman. the dialogue and delivery in this scene is very reminiscent of the DCAU Superman, specifically the monologue against darkseid("I feel like i live in a world made of cardboard..."). the only superman i don't see in cain's version is the old animated Fleischer studios superman.
overall this was the perfect tv superman for the time, he was his own iteration, but didn't deviate too drastically from the film versions of the time and held onto the contributions of the previous iterations that made them iconic.

My favorite live action super hero show I watched on the American airwaves. Dean did an amazing job but as a whole, the entire recurring cast was simply excellent and most importantly, they understood the necessity of tone. Never took itself too seriously nor did it turn itself into a joke. I see these clips these days and keep thinking better days. So many parts of the 90s me waxing nostalgic these days.
Dean Cain was so great as the character, loved his portrayal of both clark and Superman ❤️
Shooting the gun at him and stopping the bullet was impressive 😮
🤯, I believe, is the emoji you're looking for lol
That sword sounded like it was made of the thinnest aluminum they could find.
These guys were actually a great superman and lex luthor. Lois lane was on point in this show too. It's literally just missing cgi action scenes.
And the BEST Perry White to date!
perhaps it was better off without cgi, so they could concentrate on story rather than action
@@rogerwalker2224 yeah when you cant have 45 minute scenes of superman punching a dumb cgi monster in the face you actually have to write something watchable.

His powers were fake af, too 😅😂
Their on a tv budget
@@master-of-mind5881 good point.
Mid 90s TV budget.
the sound effect was terrible too. was half expecting the shattered vase cat screech sound.
they could have easily shot around it and used a real sword. have him take a real sword off the wall, then cut to a shot of lex from behind superman shoulder, out of focus, then have a sword snapping sound, followed by him throwing it to the ground. they didnt need to show it, the look on lex's face as he snaps it would work better than the bad prop they used. plus no sword would bend like that, it would shatter. So they could have even had him break it in half, then weld it back together with his laser vision, and have it look as good as new, to also show how precise he can be.
The best moment is the shot of Clark's intense expression as he aims the gun. He's not playing around.
Man of Steel smiling from the corner 😀
John Shea was actually the best version of Lex Luthor in all of the live-action versions of Superman imo. In some ways i might even prefer him to the animated version by Clancy Brown.
