    One of the advantages of a flatbed microwave. I shall adapt these tips for my turntable one. Thank you!

    I've dried herbs on cookie sheets at lowest oven heat. In addition to getting all the moisture out, it's important to make sure the herbs are completely cooled before sealing the jar, as condensation will re-introduce moisture.

    When I have heaps of excess herbs, I dry mine in the greenhouse in summer in the hot Australian sun. It works really well, and i have heaps of different ones together in a container even chili.

    I was going to buy an expensive dehydrator--I like this a lot better for herbs.

    The microwaves ovens take a heavy toll on the volatile essential oils and energy level. Better not to be employed for nutritional purpose.

    Dont resuse paper towels or plates you will have a fire. Let your microwave cool off in between. Do only 30sec at a time. They will continue to dry out of the microwave for 7min.

    What do you think about the flavor of dried herbs compared to fresh ones? The ones I buy dried lack the flavor of the fresh ones, except for oregano.

    What about tomatoes? Oven method too long and too much consumption of gas/electricity

    • @BetterDoneYourself
      @BetterDoneYourself  5 років тому

      s truth No. Won't work. Tomatoes are too wet and would just boil on the paper towels. I'm only getting away with this because of the tiny amount of water in the leaves.

    Soooo we get irradiated herbs to enjoy all winter. Yum and nutritious too. Not.
    I love your videos. I just don’t understand how a guy such as yourself makes all of these wonderful videos all about living nutritious foods and then this one where you kill the goodness in the plant.

    • @BetterDoneYourself

      Because I'm not afraid of non-ionizing electromagnetic fields. I'm just looking to quickly preserve the flavors in the herbs. For nutrition, I rely on copious amounts of fresh fruits and vegetables, not tiny leaves.

  • @PS-ut5ct

    Love your other healthy ways to pickle and preserve foods but I wouldn't recommend using radiation to dry your beautiful herbs

    • @BetterDoneYourself
      @BetterDoneYourself  5 років тому +7

      Radiation comes in many forms. Sunlight is radiation. Warmth from your fireplace is radiation. I'm not too excited about the microwave.

    • @thomasjousse2427
      @thomasjousse2427 5 років тому +4

      These radiations just excite the molecules inside the herbs, making them hot and enabling the moisture to get extracted.
      It's not dangerous, never has been and never will be.

    Why? Why "dry" healing herbs in a radiation machine when you could use one of the many old ways like drying in the sun, on a line or even In the oven if not a dehydrator?
    Let me tell you, the best way to dry herbs quick is to "hot bowl" which is a bowl on a saucepan with a small amount of water boiling in the bottom, like impatient hipppies do.
