Jep. If only manufacturers would lose percentually as much weight As Steve Sutcliffe. This video perfectly exemplifies why modern sports niche cars are pointlessly inefficient on less than perfect conditions. Operating a modern heavy autonomobile by the interpretation of electromechanical actuators as a secondary driver you set steering and throttle position in relation to road grip levels over the parameters of chassis balance and traction and then a set of electronic measures help to distribute the power to individual wheels, calculates lateral and longitudinal forces whilst the electromechanical differential yaws the wheel torque in the "safest"possible way. Taking into account the drivers wishlist of steering and throttle position the overall preordained target of a computer and driver is then matched by various other available safety nets thus every force has an equal and opposite force the computer corrects so that the driver could not be involved directly in the process of actually controlling the vehicle. They are genius peace of engineering that ultimately load the measured data into thermodynamically capable tires and powerful electromgnetically controlled suspension and it is amazing that a car with such weight can achieve high lateral loads on dry tarmac for about 15 minutes untill the tires give up. That is why I dont blame the all manipulable consumer not as much as the manufacturers selling these deranged and truly senseless rockets to insecure people with regular licences who buy them for nurburgring and 0-60 times so that on poor conditions or accident manouvers the ability to actually use pendulum effect and tire sidewall traction for instand (over)-steering response would be obliterated. The weight of a modern car should at least be adequate enough to give moderate lateral loads in low speed accident avoidance moose tests where most of the modern cars achieve much slower medium speeds than any 90s family car or even fail to change direction at low speed alltogether. Total loss of mechanical traction on dry tarmac at second gear roll on accelerations in most of the 500 bhp 2 tonners that have brilliant reverse haldex electromechanical disengageable clutches jet still can only use a small amount of the net power on rain not to even mention on snowy conditions where i live . Only then we can start thinking about adding more power if the beafed up sports drivetrain equipment that becomes a necessity when tying down all that torque can make the vehicle much more efficient under the smallest measurable lateral and longitudional loads at less than perfect conditions.
Step one: Set aside five figures for brakes, tires and fuel for each session EDIT holy shit Steve slimmed the hell down, during the pandemic no less... nice work
1. Does anyone really regularly use any variant of an M5 as a track car? 2. This is a fairly tasteful way to run advertising content, but it’s still a bit jarring coming from Evo. I’d encourage viewers to subscribe to the magazine to keep real editorial content funded.
Steve.. Carchpole..Harris..Metcalf.. always a pleasure to watch. M5 LCi on my radar to replace my E63s I think. Honesty only real downside is the noise. So important (for me) regarding drama and it just sounds so poor. P.S Steve - awesome weight loss, you look and sound happy and healthy 😁
Was expecting more on the entry speeds, trail brakimg, racing lines with fine details and specific insights etc. Not 2/3 of the vid debugging M5's electronics. The sad truth of many modern (arguably) performanve cars.
Having gone from a new M car to an RS4 B8 for the winter I am massively missing all the trick tech. I think I also spied Steve talking and going into a corner at 70mph before the out lap. Looks fast enough to me.
@@timmo3351 But the M2 CS seems like a genuinely great car, there's tons of other great reviewers praising it: Cammisa at Hagerty, Catchpole at Carfection, Farah at The Smoking Tire etc. I don't think there's any reason to worry about impartiality in this case
I love the Goodwood track and loved it even more in my M5 Comp. I'm surprised you only hit 134 on the back straight, even if it's greasy - I hit the limiter at 164 in mine which took some major cahoonas through Lanvant to get on the power early and HEAVY braking into Woodcote. The scariest part by some margin was indeed Madgwick which seemed to want to throw me off a few times - I guess I didn't know about the bump!!! Also, I agree - 4WD Sport was definitely the way to go. Great videos guys and my Steve you look a picture of health!!
I love my 2019 M5 (including the pre LCI headlights). Not a fan of the competition models due to the already harsh ride. If I want a true track car, I’m going M2, M4 or 911.
Steve is so underrated, the way he speaks especially in the intro is so uplifting.
More Steve, please!
Steve is so slim now!. Weight saving!

Steve is great! Always enjoy his reviews.
M5 competition 💕 💯 🙌🏾 my favorite car ever
Slim Sutcliffe brining it, as always. Fine reviewer and a fine driver. The M5 Competition is not bad either.
It's Steve! Dulcet tones, and very aggressive driving. LIKE.
I had to look up the word "dulcet" - thank you for contributing to my english vocabulary.
@@willdau yes, smooth and soothing voice! It’s always funny as Steve is so calm, yet his driving is explosive...!
Such a talented driver and journalist. Cannot wait for Bedford, which I've been to several times!
Surely Steve is the finest wheelsmith of all current motoring journo's and I include all the TV ones too ;)
Stevie Sutcliffe in the house........finally!!!

The British saved car reviews.
Very nice work guys!
Great driving

Steve is looking svelt!👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Car drives itself. BMW must have paid a lot for this two part ad
I thought the same of these 2 vids. Very much a feeling of a big advert. Very un-EVO
@@matthewlillig yep, sponsored content - just an elaborate advert.
There should be a drift battle against this m5 cs lci vs the taycan rwd.
Wow Steve! You look great!
Is this car Tanzanite Blue, it seems a little dark for Marina Bay, anybody know? It lacks the depth in colour I would expect from Tanzanite.

Sublime BMW, sport rapide et remplie d'options
Wish he was on Carfection.
I don't
M5 competition >>>> AMG GT 4door

Doesn’t gel well that the first videos after a BMW quite surprisingly won ECOTY is sponsored BMW content...
So what is a good time around GOODWOOD and by what car. What time did you do in the M5?
Is it ever not, 1. Raining. 2. Getting ready to rain. 3. Just finished raining in the UK?
We all know your name is 'Steve' 2:28 🤣
Sponsored content ?
Makes you look at the ECOTY result a bit differently aye!

Steve doing paid promotions now ? Really
Sitting in an odd driving position. I thought you were taller.

Please no.
Settings settings settings. Heavy piece of shit. Evo used to hold marketing bullshit like this in the same contempt that true enthusiasts do.
He’s sitting on the wheel like a little old lady..... lol
Good point , normally BMW owners drive ... sorry race , laying on they're back . 🤣
Wrong car for the job
Much sooner have a lightweight lower bhp car
Genuinely fell asleep during this lacklustre video. Had the right ingredients but didn’t feel any enthusiasm, maybe because it was paid for content.
´goodwood is a proper track’....
lol no.
