As a Thor fan I dislike the movie a lot, it made quick work of Gorr was too silly. For some reason heimdall had a kid, it was just to childish for marvel and Gorr’s arc in general.
Silly and I cant figure out why writers and directors has so much hatred for the source material. So sick of randos being given free reign to completely rewrite the mythology of these characters amd storylines we grew up with.
I think that you are commercial trying to please a wider audience. You are the definition of being on the fence. Hense your reviews are bad. However: The video quality is really good and the depth you use too discuss was great also.
I liked it a lot.... but it helped to watch it with 300 other fans which also laughed from time to time... and sometimes not. One of the better MCU movies this year.
It was really hard to take Gorr seriously because I felt like Thor didn't even take him seriously. I couldn't even take the kidnapped kids seriously because Axel joked, Thor joked. It felt like every line Thor said was a joke. I liked Ragnarok because there was a good balance but they took it wayyy overboard this time with the one liners and comedy
Should you be taking Thor serious? He’s a magical character from a mystical land with a flying hammer. He wears furry boots?? He only works if he’s funny.
_In my opinion this movie was just to Disney for me especially when it comes to a profound character like the god of thunder Thor._ _The making of this video on UA-cam is nothing more than a response to the mixed reviews about this movie: no one expected specifically those who love the movie to receive mixed reviews about the movie, The same thing happened to the movie Eternals but I think they did a great job with that movie plus, no one wants to give a bad review on Thor as they did with the dark world._ _Thor the dark world should’ve had more potency to it given the fact that you have beings that existed and are older than the universe itself._ _This guy quickly came out to give excuses for the directors direction, in the next Thor movie I’m hoping we would have directors to take over the Thor character on the silver screen such as The Russo brothers, James Cameron, Chloe Zhao, Sam Raimi or even Zack Snyder or maybe Christopher Nolan himself would take part in the next Thor film as Director; I think Taika David Cohen forgot that you have adults and grown men with high testosterone that like the character came to see the movie too!!_
My point of view is that he’s dealing with a lot of pain, death and not being happy. He hasn’t dealt with closure or grief. He’s trying to run away from getting attached, he doesn’t take things serious or trying to be funny by hiding his pain.

Did any side character say this thing about Thor in this movie? No man, that's totally not the case. Director wanted to make Thor a clown and it has nothing to do with Thor's personal problem.
A couple times during the movie I was wondering if Korg was still narrating and we were seeing an interpretation of his exaggerated story. This had a little TOO much Taika.
They need to release those extra scenes about Gor going after the gods. I think the comedy could’ve been toned down just a bit. They should’ve really pushed the boundary of almost being rated R like madness of multiverse teetered on that line. Gor is an awesome character. And they should’ve made us a little more anxious/scared/uncomfortable while he was on screen. Bale definitely deserved those cut scenes as well as more time. I would love to see him come back if they were to do the secret wars reset.

My main issue is that established MCU characters like Thor and Dr. Strange are starting to behave like caricatures of themselves. They don't act like people anymore, cracking jokes all the time regardless of circumstances. Ragnarok is really great, and Thor in that movie still appeared to have real genuine moments even if he was joking most of the time. In Love and Thunder, those moments are far in between and I started not seeing him as an individual with struggles anymore. Don't get me wrong, they're there but those moments started to seem like afterthoughts more and more. Ragnarok was able to balance the all its serious elements with its comedic ones, while Love and Thunder leaned too heavily in the latter, compromising what could have been a profound emotional story. I hope Guardians 3 will not suffer the same fate.
@@CrystalSki67You're completely missing the point. I loved both Guardians 1 & 2. And I love comedy in general, but both Guardian films knew when to treat serious matters seriously, and when to use comedy. Both Guardian movies had real emotional moments that honest to god made me tear up inspite of being funny as heck. On the other hand, Love and Thunder treated almost every scene as a comedy sketch. The ones in the film that seemed authentic, like the ones with Jane, are easily the best parts of Love and Thunder, but they were severely underutilized in favor of using comedic scenes. If you still don't understand, it's all about balancing both the comedic and story elements so that each part services the other. It's something that Phase 4 films appear to be sorely lacking, and something that Guardians 3 needs to perform well.

I also said there were good moments in the film, though in my honest opinion, not nearly enough. I think they just leaned a little bit too much in the comedic aspect, thus compromising what could have been a more meaningful story (which is evident in almost all Phase 4 films). Not sure why you purposely misinterpret my statements on a consistent basis, but just to be clear, I'm not trying to invalidate your feelings for the film or attack you. You're free to love it just as I am free to criticize it. I love MCU films and I just want them to be better.
I wanted more of a "god killer". I wanted to see him actually kill a few gods....less of making Thor look like an idiot and more of making both have epic battles leading up to the climax. I just don't understand why they seem intent on making a very old being like Thor an idiot. He must have learned a few things over the centuries.
In ragnarok, they had some comedy but thor was mainly a straight man . love and thunder was mainly a comedy with thor being a buffoon . Ragnarok was one of my favorite marvel movies, love and thunder was def a thumbs down for me
When Zeus said he was fear of All-Black, I was thinking that it will give Gorr a clear advantage when fighting a proper god and that would lead to a scene where Jane held the key to defeat Gorr since she was still a human weilding god power. They don't even bother to show that clear advantage.
I would suggest reading some other mythologies than the Abrahamic ones - gods tend to be petty and foolish in those despite their immortality so I don't feel it is anything out of the ordinary. In fact most polytheistic religion gods are just humans reimaged to have magic and superpowers but with our flaws amplified, rather than "be all and end all" of the monotheistic religions. From the POV that gods are immensely powerful and usually have immortality, to think they don't learn as well as humans because mistakes are much less consequential to them actually makes more sense IMO. EDIT: Take Zeus in Greek mythology since he's in this movie too, how many times did he cheat on his wife Hera, got found out, and STILL does it?

There is a difference between being a fool and being foolish.....powerful beings might act foolish because they don't care or worry about what consequences their actions might have but their knowledge is extensive....sometimes in this movie Thor seems like an idiot.

Thor was only angry when he thought Korg was killed.....I wanted to see him fly up and kick Zues ass....just tossing his lightning bolt back into him was sort of blah lol This wasn't a bad movie but I just suppose I expected more....Gorr as some cosmic evil not an upset father.....Gorr maybe even an Avenger class bad guy....just with Thor universe allies teaming up like Ragnarok....his Sister Hela was pretty bad ass and so was Surtur....both way tougher than a supposed God killer
This should have been a disney plus series. You get to explore more of Gorr’s background, more of Thor and Jane’s love story, still enough comedy and we get to see serious savage Thor that we miss from Infinity War. The movie was by no means bad, there was just way too much left in the air regarding his character.
I COMPLETELY agree with Matt Singer here. Not only is it tonally inconsistent, but it's the cliff notes version of both the Gorr and Jane Foster storylines. Neither one grabs me the way either of them should. Gorr's not scary enough, and Jane's affliction did not resonate with me, the way a cancer storyline should, even though I also know what that's like.
Tonally inconsistent? I guess that just means a movie having more than one tone? If a movie is comedic and has serious moments, then I guess it's tonally inconsistent. You can only have one. Whenever something serious happens in this movie, it is never broken by a joke. Jane's cancer is never joked about. The entire third act with Gorr in shadow realm is never interrupted by a joke. His final confrontation with Etnerity is never broken by a joke. This movie has more restraint than most MCU movies. I think you just hate comedies my guy.

6.5/10 Not bad, but not great, it had some great emotional beats, but the jokes and humor overshadowed the emotional beats, plus they did the Guardians of the galaxy dirty.
This would be a great movie to release a Director's Cut, as the original tone of the film was meant to be much darker, more Tragic Love Story, and Marvel intervened to make it more Rom-Com for 'broader appeal'. I think the reason some stuff feels very incongruous is that they had to change a lot after the fact and that's always a bad idea.
Oh I would love to watch directors cut, would be a single comment of, "and this is where we screwed over all the avid fans and took thier money" *insert evil laugh here*
It occurs to me that TLaT might have been more wacky than previous movies because the entire movie is ACTUALLY being told by Korg, as he is heard recapping major events (Story of Thor, story of Jane, their relationship, etc) and thus actually an unreliable narrator due to his personality and sometimes more simple-minded views. While the facts remain true enough (Thor learning to roller skate, them living together, etc), things like all the women in the God realm all fainting at the sight of his...err, mighty hammer, could have been hammed up by Korg because of how HE might have felt or just to give the story more entertainment. Meanwhile, all the flashbacks were Korg imagining how Thor and Jane acted (also explains the misspelling of Nick Fury and him having a cell phone despite not knowing how things like email and phones work as mentioned in Ragnarok; yeah it's also a callback to his comedy shorts, but as a narrative perspective that makes more sense). The only times the movie "present time" gets really serious is at the end when Korg isn't there and clearly Thor made sure his retelling the story was accurate. But storytelling plays a major role in the entire movie, with Korg and the followers, Axel and the kids, Thor and the kids, and even Gorr and his child in their religious beliefs.
Very well said, and I can definitely see this being an interpretation of a god through the lens of a disciple. It’s reminiscent of the epochs that used to be passed down through stories told in the olden times.
Telling the story to kids I see a parallel if Disney pressure caused this 2 hour Family friendly cut resulting from 4 hours of footage that included other god butchering. Must prepare everyone for young avengers
the spelling of Nick Fury as Furry was an easter egg from the Join Team Thor promo before Civil War. If you haven't seen it I suggest watching it, it was hilarious!
Same problem with Shang Chi, you've got an excellent villain but lacks the time to develop them. It should have been a two part movie Wen Wu and the Legend of Ten Rings, and Shang Chi in the Legend of Ta Lo. And for this it should have been Gorr: Rise of God Butcher and Thor: Love and Thunder.
That's my problem with marvel movies, I don't watch Hollywood that much, they are like 1 hrs 35 min long not counting credits and post credit scenes. They feel like finale of TV series. Atleast make them 2 hrs long. Idk
I can’t pin it down perfectly, but I didn’t enjoy Love and Thunder. I’d hope to see some real butchering scenes, but no, and agree that the silliness at times was off putting to a story I read in the comics. Forgetting what happened after an hour of seeing the film made me realise I just didn’t connect
That's a great way to put it and you're absolutely right, a good movie leaves me thinking about it afterwards... & that's any quality film, this movie didn't do that for me at all.
I enjoyed most of Love and Thunder, I think where it falls short for me or it feels like a missed opportunity is the character of Gorr. Gorr is a serial killer, he is 'Gorr the God Butcher' and after he kills the first god, his god; Gorr is depicted as less of a butcher and more of a boogey man as the film progresses. One of the things Marvel is having a problem with in phase four (we are in phase four, yes?) is showing and not telling and boy howdy, is that Gorr's problem. We see very little of his mind games, of his murders or his battles. Instead, we see the aftermath, the deed after it is done and then him traumatizing children and this is the exact opposite of Gorr in the comics. I think if we would have gotten two scenes of him felling gods and debating them and their worth as he is doing it, we would SEE him in his corruption and his goal could have been more dynamic. Gorr could have been a Thanos villain in which we, the audience, actually debate our own values and morals when it comes to gods and belief structures. Instead, he is another Dark Elf ala Thor 2. In my head canon, as Thor debates/battles Zeus, we flash back and forth with Gorr killing/debating a good god or a god that devoted itself to its followers and yet, Gorr STILL kills it. We see the parallels of the two debates and how complicated the issue of being a god can be. Zeus the arrogant All Father vs Jesus or a Sacrificial type of god and our Protagonist and Antagonist debating them for relatability.
I agree with your "show don't tell" point. It also applied to Thor's personal struggles. We kept being told that he was having a hard time figuring out who he was and what he wanted out of life, but we never actually saw him going through any of that.

I spent almost all of 2019 in the hospital. I survived by laughing as often as possible. As someone who, at one point, was literally dying for many months, I found the tonal switches between “cancer” and “jokes” to be 100 on target. And as a dad, yeah, the end got me too. The movie was exactly what I expect from Waititi - dark themes attacked with brash humor.
Yeah, for sure it was too silly, it was the right amount in Ragnarok and came across refreshing. I found myself cringing too much in this one waiting for a scene to get over with too often.
The worst part for me was the damn goats. That was a tired meme a decade ago. If he really must use it again, at least remember the rule of three. Repeating a joke more than three time kills it. (Although for me, the screaming goats joke was already dead on arrival).
I think it should've just been the Jane storyline considering the tone of the love & thunder theme. Jane's Mighty Thor and the issues with Zeus could've been a balanced storyline. They really did the Godbutcher storyline a disservice. That should've been the main focus of another film. So the tone wasn't really the main problem, the antagonist just didn't fit.
Some of the jokes missed completely and it was just strange for the movie to try to be funny when there's a literal God killer on the loose and Jane is dying of cancer. Overall still not a bad movie but the jokes took away from what should've been a more emotional story.
I couldn't stand the stupid voice over though the movie it got old fast. Like this is Thor 4 if I don't know his back story by now I probably shouldn't be watching it
Yes, the movie should have been longer. However, IMO too many reviewers and casuals have a fixation on Ragnarök to the point I don't even want to hear the word, an obsession trying to make sense of "Phase 4", false expectation of GOTG being in half the movie (despite them clearly leaving in the trailer) and taking themselves and the film way too serious. It's a comic book movie have some fun. Also, the movie is a very smart, detailed movie hidden behind a very goofy facade. That's a Taika joint. Is there fair complaints? Yes. People, including myself, wanted more. We wanted more Gorr and more Jane. The story moves at a breathtaking pace, it could have been extended 30 minutes and let the scenes breathe more. Also, the themes of the movie are great and deep but never fully explored.

As a HUGE fan of Taika’s, I loved it, though as you said, Ragnarok is still one of my favorite MCU films. Some of my friends are among those who just couldn’t get into it. For me those are the films I enjoy talking about - divisive ones. If a film is getting mixed reactions that doesn’t mean it’s “bad” as clearly there are many who like it as well as dislike it. My biggest issue is when people get upset over films and go off online telling others their opinion is the right one. I personally like how phase 4 is giving directors more freedom, of course people are noticing a downside to this as sometimes films or shows feel out of place in the mcu after 11 years. Still, the MCUs success giving more creative freedom to filmmakers is something that makes me happy - especially as a soon-to-be filmmaker myself. The silliness was fine for me as I left with a smile on my face. My biggest gripe was not getting enough of Gorr. Hela got so much screen time between Thor’s scenes that it built the climax better when they finally had their big confrontation. In this one Gorr just sits around waiting for Thor. I think the film would’ve benefited from seeing Gorr travel around and fight other gods.
Agree with everything you said. Gorr should've gotten more development. And Valkyrie barely had any screentime. I love that Phase 4 is giving more creative freedom to directors.
Wouldn't it have been great if Omnipotent City was decimated by Gorr just after Thor and company leaves (and Zeus is incapacitated). That would be the God Butcherer's ultimate buffet....
Well said! I feel like Marvel has expanded enough that we are now getting movies made for everyone - and some fans are confused by that and don't like it. But it's great for others. I loved LaT while the Cap movies are, personally, some of my least favorite (although I like his character). And that's okay. It should be a "to each their own" situation. Especially because that's how the comic books are. 😊
Nothing worked in my opinion...It was like watching 2 diferrent movies at the same time...Kinda made me wish that Gorr was the protagonist, and saw him acutally killing some gods...
That’s exactly my issue with this newer Thor movie. This man literally lost EVERYTHING and he’s making a joke about everything? Spider-Man lost everything and it proceeded to be emotional and didn’t undermined the emotional part

The so-called "funny moments" continuously interrupt the serious ones. One scene turns into many and it becomes very annoying. This is the first MCU movie in which I actually considered leaving the theater after the first 15 minutes
If someone hadn't paid for my ticket to take me there and I had paid for my ticket on my own I would have walked out on that movie after he met and killed the first and only God that we got to see him kill
I'll say this: I enjoyed the movie more than I thought I would. I just had the title and the trailer to base my judgment on. From those, I was not impressed. But because Thor is my favorite Avenger, I figure I would give it a shot. And I was surprised that I liked it as much as I did. Not my favorite Thor movie (that would be Ragnorok), but I was still entertained.
I actually believe this movie could be solved by simply adding a few more moments of sadness to each tragedy: children being kidnapped, Korg body disintegrated, thor finds out Jane has cancer, Valkyrie being stabbed, Jane getting worse with cancer. All of these moments I just wanted to sit with and see Thor sit with the emotion longer. Without that it didn’t feel real. The danger of the kids being harmed didn’t feel real. I actually think it’s a simple fix that would make the comedy of this movie so much more impactful.
I loved the movie, more than Ragnarok. Ragnarok was fun, but Love & Thunder had so much emotion and character growth. I also lost my mom to cancer, so I could relate to the struggle Jane went through, and the ending was so beautiful I couldn’t help shedding some tears. I agree with Taika’s philosophy of using laughter to counteract sadness. And Thor is probably one of the most tragic characters in the MCU (along with Wanda). He lost both his parents, his brother, his best friends… the scene with Starlord was played for laughs, but Thor really doesn’t have anyone to love anymore, so for him to find Love at the end of the movie was beautiful. The humor overall has hit or miss, but I interpreted a lot of it as Thor trying to deal with his pain by putting on a smile and seeing the humor in life.
Yeah, except they already played the "sad Thor has lost everyone" in Endgame when he is in the spaceship with Rocket. They tossed a low-key joke at that and it worked. But on the flip side, yes I agree with the idea of humor during sadness. It is a great coping mechanism. So sorry about your mom, friend.
I honestly had the same problem with the marvel what if series, the episodes I liked were the one’s they took seriously, and did not fill with a movie worth of jokes. Mainly the zombies episode, way too many dad jokes in that.
100% Agree with everything Matt said on this. I love Ragnarok, but am very conflicted on L&T. Taika Waititi's antics suited the environment of Sakaar, which itself served as a brilliant counterpoint to Hela's and Asgard's imperial majesty. But there's nothing in this story beyond the Guardians that benefits from that wackiness.
I’m guessing the amount of MCU content is bound to bring about so much criticism. I’m confused with the amount of negativity towards this movie but happy to hear the poll taken revealed that most of the viewers liked this movie. I loved it. Ultimately it really seems that the MCU requiem entertainment to Edit these movies down to 2 hours resulted in this movie being edited down to what we got, a (Taika Watiti comedy space adventure). I guess the editing has to happen it just seems that they may have cut off too much Goor with his death and destruction and kept lots of laughs. I’m cool with it but would’ve loved to have more violence
Why is constructive criticism all of sudden perceived as negativity??? The film clearly had a boatload of tonal inconsistencies that hurt the film tremendously. The film is based on a bleak story. Why insert so much comedy into? Why not just do another story altogether instead of serious one??
Honestly terrible movie. Once again the comic book characters that the fans love have been screwed over with goofy ones. Massive plot holes. So much of the movie didn't make sense at all. Really bad acting. Kids fighting omg wtf is that about. It's one big joke.
Given it was so short, having more Gorr in the first Act would have really worked to set the stakes rather than just giving us a bunch of distress signals. Also, I didn't really like how they basically reset Thor to how he was in Thor 1, it's almost like Ragnarok, Infinity War and End Game didn't happen...they could have told the same story without doing that for the sake of making a few extra jokes. Overall, I enjoyed the movie, but it wasn't nearly as strong as Ragnarok.
I didn't think it reset Thor. He closed off his heart because of all the people he cared about dying. His friends, family, etc. This movie taught Thor to open his heart again.
@@tmmnago2722 He's a complete goof at the beginning of the movie and delusional as well. That's not a guy with his "closed off heart", that's the guy from Thor 1 but played up more for laughs. He's not even close to the "Bring me Thanos" Thor in Infinity War, or the "Let's kill him properly this time" Thor from End Game. They didn't need to make Thor a goofball to make this movie funny.

I still definitely put Ragnorok as one of best MCU films and better than L&T. I don't think its fair to say this movie was "too silly", it's a Waititi Film I feel like you have to expect the jokes. I also think the original 4hr cut would've explored the intricate details alot better and made more sense. Overall 7.5/10 for me :)
Some of the more intricate deleted scenes like Gorr screaming, going around killing gods and exploring some of the mini arcs more would be acceptable. The movie had way too much content which struggled for sub 2 hour movie.
While I’d like to see a 4hr cut, we can’t expect every movie now to be a super extended version; there are filmmakers that can develop a fully fledged story within a shorter running time
Nothing in this movie cohered. Calling the movie "fun" as a way of saying it's somewhat good is like calling getting blackout drunk and attending a meaningful event fun--because getting drunk is supposed to be fun, uh, yeah, uh, I smort. Wasted characters, completely undermined emotion thanks to overused jokes. Some jokes would've been absolutely fantastic, had they not been thrown in with and at you every excuse to make them. There is nothing good to say about it.
I'm on the same page as Rachel. People needs to go with the flow. I loved every single minute of this movie. That's coming from someone who's a Huge fan of Jason Aaron's run of Thor. I'm just happy to see these characters on the big screen.

I had no problems enjoying Thor: Love and Thunder. The know it all critics and naysayers may slam it all they like but the movie stood on its own merits. Depending on what Rotten Tomatoes says or claims to decide to watch a movie or not is like relying on what Oprah’s Book Club to decide to get a book. People can still think for themselves. Taika Waititi had a lot thinking that Love and Thunder will end up campy like 1997’s Batman and Robin but if one took time to listen to the dialog the story was fairly good. It wouldn’t have done for it to have been as serious as Dr. Strange In the Multiverse of Madness, and to exactly copy the God Butcher arc would more likely invite comparison to Endgame with the present day Thor, the younger Thor and King Thor all in one film. Jane Foster as the Mighty Thor was excellent, ditto Christian Bale as Gorr the God Butcher. He said it best: “And how many times have you prayed to your gods and not received an answer?” . The mid credits with Zeus resenting the fact that people now put their faith in superheroes more than gods sets up a really good throw down between Thor and Hercules.
I’m sorry but I hate Matt’s take. It feels inch deep. Sure Waititi’s thor is the same kind of character. It wouldn’t have made sense for him not to be since this Thor is both wildly successful and being influenced by the same director. If all the magic of Ragnorok was just in that it was a surprising one time magic trick then this movie was doomed for you no matter what. I think this movie tells a more interesting story than Ragnorok and does so in a completely fresh and fun way. Without ever feeling preachy it tackles some really interesting ideas about how we express love. That’s just my opinion but I think if the bar is surprising the audience with a new thor character every time then we’re being unrealistic and we aren’t opening ourselves up enough to enjoy the other parts of the story.
I’m sorry there is no take that will sway my beliefs of this dumpster fire🤣 this was by far the worse MCU movie in history and I’m not just saying that , not a single ounce of serious takes place in this movie and if it does it immediately get overshadowed by flat cookie cutter comedy this is easily a 3/10 👎🏾💩
No idea what all the "ehh its okay" is about. Understandable that people want something different, but what kind of different? I feel like this IS Thor now. One more thing. I liked the ending because it wasn't just about stopping a bad guy ,and the bad guy just killing God s for no reason. All gor wanted was his daughter, and Thor finally reopened his heart for love. So much so to take in the badguy heart, but I do agree it should of been a little more expanded on at the end. Could of definitely been a longer ending. Maybe the seed being planted right after the necropo sword being broken.

There's a lot of great stuff beneath the surface of the film. Jane going to Valhalla not because she died in the battle, but because her fight vs cancer was a battle. Stormbreaker and Mjolnir were metaphors for Thor and Jane's emotions. The importance of love and childlike imagination in a cynic world. But the humour mostly didnt work which will make people forget about this

They point this out multiple times throughout the film. Her cancer with battle was a battle of morals and learning what is of utmost importance when your own frail life is at stake.

I don’t know who the man is on the show, not Ryan but I completely disagree. Even tho it’s the same layout as Ragnarok it’s completely new and it felt fresh.. I loved this film.
Given the tone of this movie, I think Christian Bale was a weird choice and I wonder if thats reason why he had so little screen time. I think he did a good job and if they had gone hard R, his portrait would have been amazing. That’s the movie I want to see. But I felt like the tone of this was out of his range a little. Also, he did say in an interview that he did most of his scenes by him self and that’s how it felt watching
I thought it was good, not as good as Ragnarok--I liked those themes better. I didn't quite connect with Love, the character. But I have heard from some people who are parents that their kids really liked the idea that they could be heroes too (not just with Love but with the empowering of the Asgardian children) so I think this one might skew younger, which isn't a bad thing for Marvel. Waititi described this as Thor's "mid-life crisis" movie and also a romantic melodrama. I think those are accurate. I'm not sure I need to see another Thor movie. I would like a Valkyrie film with Waititi, maybe. And more puppet aliens. (Help those poor CGI VFX artists + more puppets = win win)
Dude, the best Thor yet. As a father, I can tell you nerds who don't understand the journey of a boy to being a man to being a father is the very foundation of the Thor series. So guys without kids or a long enough life to understand how he feels, then they are missing out on it. And the scene at the end had me jumping out my seat it was so good. Also, the whole story was told as a story being told by his friend so the details may have been different.
I loved the movie, but it tried to do _way_ too much in a limited span, and threw way too much new stuff at the audience for my liking. (Major spoilers ahead.) Introducing Gorr and the Necrosword, Zeus and several pantheons worth of deities (including two more Celestials who were a cool inclusion but also a confusing one- you'd think they'd have bigger concerns than watching Zeus preen his feathers), a new thunderbolt weapon that Thor just takes and uses no problem, Eternity and his wish-granting powers (which just so happen to be locked with the Bifrost of all things, how convenient; and the center of the universe is apparently relatively easy to get to, with Thor getting there with little issue... yet no one thought to use Eternity's wish until right now?), Jane and everything tied to her, Valhalla, and littler but still hitherto-unseen things like Heimdal's son... it's a *lot*, and a fair chunk of these concepts could have used a lot more breathing room or otherwise been cut for future use. What we got was a fun time, but place the fun element to one side for a moment and analyze the thing, and the movie suddenly looks and feels cobbled together and unfocused.
Just saw it today for the first time. I wasn't very impressed overall. It was somewhat entertaining, but the beginning felt VERY rushed, and the rest just lacked something that I can't quite put my finger on. The humor felt a bit too much this time around. "Thor: Ragnarok" is still my favorite. I could watch that movie over and over...this one I have no desire to see again.

Although I enjoyed the film as a whole, I felt Gorr was out of place as a villian. The God Butcher saga happened to Thor after I got out of buying monthly comics but from my understanding it's a vast, multi year saga. So it could've been a new trilogy of movies. I mean a God killer with he power of Thanos with the necro sword (which in the comics is a venom symbiote or somehting, crazy I know) is too small for 1 movie.
The sword was created by the god of the symbiote Knull, and it has the power to kill even celestials but I feel like with Sony owning Venom and I think anything attached to him they have to alter a bit
Can't do it as a trilogy. Chris might not have 3 more movies in him. So it had to be one and done. Now, they should have put more focus in it. I agree with that. Maybe get rid of the other subplots.
Comic book movies should be a little silly. If they’re too serious, the whole thing is silly - like the Nolan Batfilms. It doesn’t make sense for a guy to be running around in a bat costume in that world.
A little creative and 'silly'? Yes. Love and Thunder was dumb, poorly written, campy, goofy and a cheap parody of Thor and the MCU. Taika Waititi doesn't care about Thor, the comics or the MCU. Most of the jokes were recycled from Ragnarok, stolen from other movies or interest means or were very low brow and not very clever.
Thor lost his mother, father, brother, friends and half of all asgard and the movie jokes about it. Maybe he's trying to hide hide pain by joking about and if he is then atleast address about it. It's as if the past movies events didint even happen. When ever Christian bale comes on the screen it's intense and felt like something bads gonna happen but the way he's written he is not that intimidating at times. As Matt said a combination of two good things which are bad when combined. Thanos wouldn't like this movie as it's not balanced.
I agree with Matt Singer. Perfect explanation of this movie is two halves of an amazing sandwich mushed together. Plus I am sad that Gorr is gone.... Christian Bale did such a good job
It's actually a fusion Of comedy drama and horror... Every Scene Christian Bale was in Especially the one with the children in the cage... Was like something out of a hellraiser flick... That's what made the scene with the powered up kids so satisfying
You know, I really disliked this movie but I will 100% agree with everything you just said. Lets see Gorr butcher some gods, massively ramp up his screen time, increase the horror, keep a few jokes and that would be a movie I would watch.
I think as a movie is fun, action packed and dont have any problems. but the majority of the criticism is the fact that taika chose to "adapt" 2 of the most beloved thor stories of the comics and they dont look alike at all. And that is a fair point too, but, in hindsight, they really shoudnt, because of the maturity of the thor stories in the comics are not the target audience of the disney's MCU (Im sorry my misspelling, but english is not my primary language)

Especially coming off of Dr Strange which was super dark I thought it was a well needed break from the doom and gloom. Actually glad that it doesn’t create all the giant MCU questions and it’s just a good movie without having to immediately lead into something else
Overall I enjoyed the movie but I had two complaints - 1) We did not see enough of Gorr - those scenes of him self-mutilating by removing his religious tattoos would have been so great. We should have seen him kill a few more gods on-screen instead of just seeing pictures. I mean even the battle where Sif lost her arm - SHOW SOME OF THAT BATTLE! 2) Marvel has been introducing many many gods and afterlife realms recently - the Egyptian gods in Moon Knight, Black Panther, the Dragons in Shang Chi, Celestials, etc. They literally introduced a character with " god butcher" in his name yet he did not mention or attempt to kill any of these recently introduced gods. Killing one of the gods from Moon Knight (for example) before going after Thor would have added some real stakes.
My main gripes are 1. Gorr was under utilized: as a being who got the name “god butcher” you would think that the other gods would be a bit more serious about it, but they chalked up his kills to being “low level gods”. He also wasn’t as scary as I hoped, though he would’ve played more mind games. 2. The end scenes: mainly Gorrs daughter, she felt out of place at the end, she should’ve been a motivating character and not a two timer. In my opinion, thor isn’t ready to be a dad yet, he still has to much to go through before he is fit. 3. Korg: while I love Korgs character, he felt out of place In the movie. Sounding both sarcastic and joking at the same time. He also doesn’t fit the narrative of the story and he should’ve stayed at Asgard to oversee the place instead of join the others
1. The whole point of this - and the movie in fact - is that the gods are full of themselves and couldn't care less. The time where Gorr met his deity sets this up. And as Ryan had pointed out in the breakdown, this is a social commentary on wealthy elites living in their own little reality bubble not caring about anything else. To make the gods "care more", would in fact, defeat the theme of the movie.
yeah so he killed low level gods right, and the other gods didnt pay attention and then what if he killed a major god or two and then we see the gods become scared and shit and wed be like wow this god buthcer is actually legit. and then the eternity plan was just thrown out there by zeus like we dont even know why zeus knows gorr's plan. what if they showed like zeus was actually scared but woudlnt show it thats why he knows what gorr might do. the movie was rushed i think.
I think in this movie, we got to see parts of the "Nordic Viking god Thor" Careless, making fun of battle and that if you die in battle(as a viking), it doesn't matter as something better awaits in valhalla. But he is also aware that there are different realms/dimensions/afterlifes depending on your beliefs. And that is why he doesn't want Jane to die( and pf course because he loves her). I really enjoyed it, and had fun.
I'm not a fan of the comedy in this movie either but the joke about Lady Sif's arm making it to Valhalla was the only scene my theater actually laughed at
I agree with Matt, They didn't really make a cohesive story. You had wonderful parts... that were put together to form a poorly made movie. I would have loved to see this movie go one way or the other. Light heartedly dealing with Janes arc or making Gor a true threat to deal with. I can see this being a Justice League movie that someone re-edits into something special. Pick a lane is what I felt the entire 2nd half of the movie.
Matt said exactly what I couldn’t put my finger on. It was like there were totally different movies. Sadness and Grief against silliness and jokes. I like a roller coaster as much as the next person, but geeze.
Make a thriller/horror movie about Gorr and his god butchering ways. Make a tearjerker movie about Jane, cancer and loss. Make a silly movie for children, hosted by Korg. Don't try to jam all three into one film.
I thought the movie was fun and good. The humor didn’t bother me. Plus it was Taika. I personally am not a huge fan of these types of videos bc people will be like “It was good! But here’s xyz of what didn’t live up to my exact expectations! But it was still good!”. Maybe I’m just not as picky about stuff but it’s so tiring with any MCU or Star Wars anything people get so nitpicky about really anything they can.
I just realised that the reaso Gorr did not wish to be with his daughter is that he was too embarrassed to thing that he was worthy of us. He had done so many atrocious things, killed so many gods by that point that he thought himself irredemable and likely to corrupt his daughter if he stayed alive. However on the other hand he sees a god in thor so unlike the ones he encountered, one that is caring and still evolving that he consiously made the choice of leaving her with Thor. I am also not entirely sure if love is 100% his daughter. When she comes back, the reflection on the water is eternity, not his daughter. As for Thor being silly for most of the film, let's not forget, he is 1500 year old. A sort of cynicism and sillyness is required if you don't want to fall to depression after living for so long. Furthermore, Thor is also, without realising, making himself stronger. It is established in Moon Knight that the more people believing in a God the more powerful that God becomes. Thor, has ledt the asgardians and is now well knowj throughout the universe, woth many people worshipping him as dofferent kinds of god (Thunder, destruction, etc). I do think that we will eventually see that taking fruit at some point

Great arch for Thor, Jane, and them together 👌 Definitely not the same (trick) as Ragnarok. If you put both movies together the parallels are definitely not copies
I loved Love & Thunder, and in your recap of the film you helped me see things I didn’t notice which made me love it even more. Can Taika Waititi just make every movie? He’s so damn good at it. So…. Did The Rock finally make it into the MCU???
Too many jokes for my taste, I guess I'm just getting old. All the little "HEY LOOK Valkyrie is homosexual!" winks are so forced, like Jesus, I'm not a homophobe by any means but come on. The whole thing with Thor and the axe being in a relationship, ultra cringe. After this I'm done with watching Marvel movies in theaters, I'll just wait a month and watch at home.
I loved the "silliness". I am also a Blazing Saddle, Robinhood Men in Tights, Airplane, Naked Gun, Scary Movie, I'm Going to Get You Sucka, The 3 Stooges, Marx Brothers, Red Skelton, Carol Burnette fan. It's what I was raised on along with my Comics.
I have to disagree. It was like an SNL Thor parody movie. Riding the axe like a broomstick. The love triangle between him and his weapons. The awkward flirting while everyone around them are lamenting the loss of their children. Zeus prancing like a dandy and easily taken out. The mild symptoms of stage 4 breast cancer while on chemo. The list goes on. It was terrible. It even fell behind Captain Marvel, which was a mess.
I was afraid of watching this movie due to reviews blasting it. Finally got a chance to watch it after its release on Disney+ and I loved it even more than Ragnarok. I thought it was a masterful balance between the dark and the humor. Hearing your take is exactly how I felt about Taika's output. I don't get the "knowing the magician's tricks" argument. Taika doesn't need to tread new ground because it's everything that made Ragnarok so great. Ragnarok was masterful in its approach to political commentary of nationalism while still being a Marvel film AND interesting enjoyable. I think a lot of people will enjoy this movie in retrospect.
Talking about the predictibility of the movie. I knew exactly what was going to happen (as you mostly do with superhero movies like Endgame, but they also contain surprises along the way) but still, I was waiting for something surprising to happen, but it didn't. Don't think that I was not surprised because I had watched all the TV spots and all the trailers, I had not. I had only watched the first trailer and nothing else.
I was expecting it to be about 2hrs 20 mins, I want to see what was cut. I did love all the little cameos. ngl anytime Sam Neil shows up in a Taika movie I just get happy. He was amazing in Hunt for the Wilderpeople. But like Taika my mum had cancer, she passed away. My dad got cancer a couple years later and he is now in remission. So certain things hit. I didn't cry in the movie but suddenly at 4am in the morning I was a mess just remembering those moments she suffered and seeing her slowly lose her mind, then flip flop between the insane and the sane to me felt like it hit with Jane going between being Mighty Thor and Jane dealing with cancer. That part with Darci where Jane is squeezing the IV bag is something my mum did as well hoping to make it go faster so she could just get out of there and go do her things and not be held back. The thing about this humour is when you are dealing with dark topics, humour is a coping mechanism for dealing with that at least here in New Zealand and how I grew up. If it's bad then the humour becomes a lot more. It's just how some of us here cope with the pain, even today, yes it's shitty, it horrible and unbearable. But if you can laugh you can feel that for that single happy stupid moment that you're okay and a moment before being consumed by dark again, it can help get you through.
Humor is a good coping mechanism for all of us. So sorry about your mum. Wishing strength to your dad. I thought the absurd play with Sam Neill, Matt Damon and Luke Hemsworth was the funniest part of the movie, especially when Melissa McCarthy busts in as Hela.
''Jane's cancer was never treated like a joke''? It was shrugged off by attempted comedy several times though, most memorably onboard the Aegir on the way to the shadow realm ... Generally, Natalie Portman seemed so unnatural in this movie, and it was sad to see. She was brought back to do just this one movie, to bring closure to the character of Thor, not Jane Foster. Her arc in this movie seemed so rushed, as every bit of seriousness about her cancer was overplayed by 'not wanting to talk about it'-attitude, and her unwillingness to receive treatment early on was contradicted by her obsession with getting to Mjølnir, and abandoning all her work and interest in it. Jane Foster was in my opinion, better in the first Thor than in this one. Her cancer death should've been the emotional climax similar to Asgard's destruction in Ragnarok, but because of how the movie had played it, and how unnatural it seemed for Hemsworth too - he seemed to be in a constant struggle between ridiculous and genuine - it lost a lot of weight for me. Gorr was the very best part of the movie, and I firmly agree with those claiming he was wasted with this little screen time. He was incredible, and I have absolutely no understanding of how he could be offered that little screen time. The best parts were his, and although his origin story worked, I think it should've expanded a little, perhaps starting with him and his family going to a temple to worship and gradually becoming the only ones, with his wife dying, his daughter soon to follow, leading him to look for the god that he is now the only one to worship. That might add more weight. He could've also come across the necrosword in a more interesting way, rather than having it lie right in front of the one god he was looking for, who also happened to have just destroyed its previous wielder. More focus on Gorr and Thor would've been great. Less Korg, less Valkyrie (because she had nothing to do anyway), and there was really no point of Sif appearing either. I think Marvel could improve if they kept their productions more grounded in terms of characters and plot in the future.
I do agree with people that the movie was too silly, especially with the serious tone that was set literally at the start of the movie with Gorr and his daughter. It's fine to have comedic elements but sometimes Taika just goes too for with trying to add humor to everything.
Watch the first two Thor movies, along with the first two Avengers, and then compare those to the Ragnarok Thor. Instead of a believable several thousand year old "god" sounding guy, you get a guy who acts like an idiot, while all the women act sane, and act like they know what is going on. Iron man was funny, but Marvel thinks they can make everyone Iron Man, and people will love it. I like comedy, but only when it is funny. You don't need a joke every three minutes for a Marvel movie to be good. After Ragnarok, most of the movies don't feel like they are even trying to be real anymore, because nobody acts serious and real.
This movie should of have the Mixed of Serious, and comedy like Infinity war had. We needed more Gorr butchering the God's for him to feel like a real threat, and the kids getting power scenes was a little goofy. What was the point of introducing Jane if they were gonna kill her off?? Also the movie was way too short

As a Thor fan I dislike the movie a lot, it made quick work of Gorr was too silly. For some reason heimdall had a kid, it was just to childish for marvel and Gorr’s arc in general.
Silly and I cant figure out why writers and directors has so much hatred for the source material. So sick of randos being given free reign to completely rewrite the mythology of these characters amd storylines we grew up with.

I liked it a lot.... but it helped to watch it with 300 other fans which also laughed from time to time... and sometimes not. One of the better MCU movies this year.
It was really hard to take Gorr seriously because I felt like Thor didn't even take him seriously. I couldn't even take the kidnapped kids seriously because Axel joked, Thor joked. It felt like every line Thor said was a joke. I liked Ragnarok because there was a good balance but they took it wayyy overboard this time with the one liners and comedy

My point of view is that he’s dealing with a lot of pain, death and not being happy. He hasn’t dealt with closure or grief. He’s trying to run away from getting attached, he doesn’t take things serious or trying to be funny by hiding his pain.

A couple times during the movie I was wondering if Korg was still narrating and we were seeing an interpretation of his exaggerated story. This had a little TOO much Taika.

They need to release those extra scenes about Gor going after the gods. I think the comedy could’ve been toned down just a bit. They should’ve really pushed the boundary of almost being rated R like madness of multiverse teetered on that line. Gor is an awesome character. And they should’ve made us a little more anxious/scared/uncomfortable while he was on screen. Bale definitely deserved those cut scenes as well as more time. I would love to see him come back if they were to do the secret wars reset.

My main issue is that established MCU characters like Thor and Dr. Strange are starting to behave like caricatures of themselves. They don't act like people anymore, cracking jokes all the time regardless of circumstances. Ragnarok is really great, and Thor in that movie still appeared to have real genuine moments even if he was joking most of the time. In Love and Thunder, those moments are far in between and I started not seeing him as an individual with struggles anymore. Don't get me wrong, they're there but those moments started to seem like afterthoughts more and more. Ragnarok was able to balance the all its serious elements with its comedic ones, while Love and Thunder leaned too heavily in the latter, compromising what could have been a profound emotional story. I hope Guardians 3 will not suffer the same fate.

@@CrystalSki67You're completely missing the point. I loved both Guardians 1 & 2. And I love comedy in general, but both Guardian films knew when to treat serious matters seriously, and when to use comedy. Both Guardian movies had real emotional moments that honest to god made me tear up inspite of being funny as heck. On the other hand, Love and Thunder treated almost every scene as a comedy sketch. The ones in the film that seemed authentic, like the ones with Jane, are easily the best parts of Love and Thunder, but they were severely underutilized in favor of using comedic scenes. If you still don't understand, it's all about balancing both the comedic and story elements so that each part services the other. It's something that Phase 4 films appear to be sorely lacking, and something that Guardians 3 needs to perform well.

I also said there were good moments in the film, though in my honest opinion, not nearly enough. I think they just leaned a little bit too much in the comedic aspect, thus compromising what could have been a more meaningful story (which is evident in almost all Phase 4 films). Not sure why you purposely misinterpret my statements on a consistent basis, but just to be clear, I'm not trying to invalidate your feelings for the film or attack you. You're free to love it just as I am free to criticize it. I love MCU films and I just want them to be better.

I wanted more of a "god killer". I wanted to see him actually kill a few gods....less of making Thor look like an idiot and more of making both have epic battles leading up to the climax.
I just don't understand why they seem intent on making a very old being like Thor an idiot. He must have learned a few things over the centuries.
In ragnarok, they had some comedy but thor was mainly a straight man . love and thunder was mainly a comedy with thor being a buffoon . Ragnarok was one of my favorite marvel movies, love and thunder was def a thumbs down for me
When Zeus said he was fear of All-Black, I was thinking that it will give Gorr a clear advantage when fighting a proper god and that would lead to a scene where Jane held the key to defeat Gorr since she was still a human weilding god power. They don't even bother to show that clear advantage.
I would suggest reading some other mythologies than the Abrahamic ones - gods tend to be petty and foolish in those despite their immortality so I don't feel it is anything out of the ordinary. In fact most polytheistic religion gods are just humans reimaged to have magic and superpowers but with our flaws amplified, rather than "be all and end all" of the monotheistic religions. From the POV that gods are immensely powerful and usually have immortality, to think they don't learn as well as humans because mistakes are much less consequential to them actually makes more sense IMO.
EDIT: Take Zeus in Greek mythology since he's in this movie too, how many times did he cheat on his wife Hera, got found out, and STILL does it?

There is a difference between being a fool and being foolish.....powerful beings might act foolish because they don't care or worry about what consequences their actions might have but their knowledge is extensive....sometimes in this movie Thor seems like an idiot.

This wasn't a bad movie but I just suppose I expected more....Gorr as some cosmic evil not an upset father.....Gorr maybe even an Avenger class bad guy....just with Thor universe allies teaming up like Ragnarok....his Sister Hela was pretty bad ass and so was Surtur....both way tougher than a supposed God killer
This should have been a disney plus series. You get to explore more of Gorr’s background, more of Thor and Jane’s love story, still enough comedy and we get to see serious savage Thor that we miss from Infinity War. The movie was by no means bad, there was just way too much left in the air regarding his character.

I COMPLETELY agree with Matt Singer here. Not only is it tonally inconsistent, but it's the cliff notes version of both the Gorr and Jane Foster storylines. Neither one grabs me the way either of them should. Gorr's not scary enough, and Jane's affliction did not resonate with me, the way a cancer storyline should, even though I also know what that's like.
Tonally inconsistent? I guess that just means a movie having more than one tone? If a movie is comedic and has serious moments, then I guess it's tonally inconsistent. You can only have one. Whenever something serious happens in this movie, it is never broken by a joke. Jane's cancer is never joked about. The entire third act with Gorr in shadow realm is never interrupted by a joke. His final confrontation with Etnerity is never broken by a joke. This movie has more restraint than most MCU movies. I think you just hate comedies my guy.

6.5/10 Not bad, but not great, it had some great emotional beats, but the jokes and humor overshadowed the emotional beats, plus they did the Guardians of the galaxy dirty.
This would be a great movie to release a Director's Cut, as the original tone of the film was meant to be much darker, more Tragic Love Story, and Marvel intervened to make it more Rom-Com for 'broader appeal'. I think the reason some stuff feels very incongruous is that they had to change a lot after the fact and that's always a bad idea.
That and plus apparently Jeff Goldblum and Peter Dinklage reprised their roles for filming and their parts were cut.

It occurs to me that TLaT might have been more wacky than previous movies because the entire movie is ACTUALLY being told by Korg, as he is heard recapping major events (Story of Thor, story of Jane, their relationship, etc) and thus actually an unreliable narrator due to his personality and sometimes more simple-minded views. While the facts remain true enough (Thor learning to roller skate, them living together, etc), things like all the women in the God realm all fainting at the sight of his...err, mighty hammer, could have been hammed up by Korg because of how HE might have felt or just to give the story more entertainment. Meanwhile, all the flashbacks were Korg imagining how Thor and Jane acted (also explains the misspelling of Nick Fury and him having a cell phone despite not knowing how things like email and phones work as mentioned in Ragnarok; yeah it's also a callback to his comedy shorts, but as a narrative perspective that makes more sense). The only times the movie "present time" gets really serious is at the end when Korg isn't there and clearly Thor made sure his retelling the story was accurate. But storytelling plays a major role in the entire movie, with Korg and the followers, Axel and the kids, Thor and the kids, and even Gorr and his child in their religious beliefs.
Very well said, and I can definitely see this being an interpretation of a god through the lens of a disciple. It’s reminiscent of the epochs that used to be passed down through stories told in the olden times.

Same problem with Shang Chi, you've got an excellent villain but lacks the time to develop them. It should have been a two part movie Wen Wu and the Legend of Ten Rings, and Shang Chi in the Legend of Ta Lo. And for this it should have been Gorr: Rise of God Butcher and Thor: Love and Thunder.

That's my problem with marvel movies, I don't watch Hollywood that much, they are like 1 hrs 35 min long not counting credits and post credit scenes. They feel like finale of TV series. Atleast make them 2 hrs long. Idk

I’d hope to see some real butchering scenes, but no, and agree that the silliness at times was off putting to a story I read in the comics. GORR NEEDED MORE TIME AND A FULL STORY
Should have been a full movie about him. Give Jane her own film, they glossed over any sad parts about that with screaming goats.
I enjoyed most of Love and Thunder, I think where it falls short for me or it feels like a missed opportunity is the character of Gorr. Gorr is a serial killer, he is 'Gorr the God Butcher' and after he kills the first god, his god; Gorr is depicted as less of a butcher and more of a boogey man as the film progresses. One of the things Marvel is having a problem with in phase four (we are in phase four, yes?) is showing and not telling and boy howdy, is that Gorr's problem. We see very little of his mind games, of his murders or his battles. Instead, we see the aftermath, the deed after it is done and then him traumatizing children and this is the exact opposite of Gorr in the comics. I think if we would have gotten two scenes of him felling gods and debating them and their worth as he is doing it, we would SEE him in his corruption and his goal could have been more dynamic. Gorr could have been a Thanos villain in which we, the audience, actually debate our own values and morals when it comes to gods and belief structures. Instead, he is another Dark Elf ala Thor 2.
In my head canon, as Thor debates/battles Zeus, we flash back and forth with Gorr killing/debating a good god or a god that devoted itself to its followers and yet, Gorr STILL kills it. We see the parallels of the two debates and how complicated the issue of being a god can be. Zeus the arrogant All Father vs Jesus or a Sacrificial type of god and our Protagonist and Antagonist debating them for relatability.
I agree with your "show don't tell" point. It also applied to Thor's personal struggles. We kept being told that he was having a hard time figuring out who he was and what he wanted out of life, but we never actually saw him going through any of that.
None of the characters in that film are done well, so it was a missed opportunity in it's entirety.

I spent almost all of 2019 in the hospital. I survived by laughing as often as possible. As someone who, at one point, was literally dying for many months, I found the tonal switches between “cancer” and “jokes” to be 100 on target.
And as a dad, yeah, the end got me too.

Yeah, for sure it was too silly, it was the right amount in Ragnarok and came across refreshing. I found myself cringing too much in this one waiting for a scene to get over with too often.

I think it should've just been the Jane storyline considering the tone of the love & thunder theme. Jane's Mighty Thor and the issues with Zeus could've been a balanced storyline. They really did the Godbutcher storyline a disservice. That should've been the main focus of another film. So the tone wasn't really the main problem, the antagonist just didn't fit.

I saw Thor's clowning around the way I saw Robin William's clowning around-- a mask on deep sadness and enduring pain.
Some of the jokes missed completely and it was just strange for the movie to try to be funny when there's a literal God killer on the loose and Jane is dying of cancer. Overall still not a bad movie but the jokes took away from what should've been a more emotional story.

Yes, the movie should have been longer. However, IMO too many reviewers and casuals have a fixation on Ragnarök to the point I don't even want to hear the word, an obsession trying to make sense of "Phase 4", false expectation of GOTG being in half the movie (despite them clearly leaving in the trailer) and taking themselves and the film way too serious. It's a comic book movie have some fun. Also, the movie is a very smart, detailed movie hidden behind a very goofy facade. That's a Taika joint. Is there fair complaints? Yes. People, including myself, wanted more. We wanted more Gorr and more Jane. The story moves at a breathtaking pace, it could have been extended 30 minutes and let the scenes breathe more. Also, the themes of the movie are great and deep but never fully explored.

As a HUGE fan of Taika’s, I loved it, though as you said, Ragnarok is still one of my favorite MCU films. Some of my friends are among those who just couldn’t get into it. For me those are the films I enjoy talking about - divisive ones. If a film is getting mixed reactions that doesn’t mean it’s “bad” as clearly there are many who like it as well as dislike it. My biggest issue is when people get upset over films and go off online telling others their opinion is the right one. I personally like how phase 4 is giving directors more freedom, of course people are noticing a downside to this as sometimes films or shows feel out of place in the mcu after 11 years. Still, the MCUs success giving more creative freedom to filmmakers is something that makes me happy - especially as a soon-to-be filmmaker myself.
The silliness was fine for me as I left with a smile on my face. My biggest gripe was not getting enough of Gorr. Hela got so much screen time between Thor’s scenes that it built the climax better when they finally had their big confrontation. In this one Gorr just sits around waiting for Thor. I think the film would’ve benefited from seeing Gorr travel around and fight other gods.
Agree with everything you said. Gorr should've gotten more development. And Valkyrie barely had any screentime. I love that Phase 4 is giving more creative freedom to directors.

Well said! I feel like Marvel has expanded enough that we are now getting movies made for everyone - and some fans are confused by that and don't like it. But it's great for others. I loved LaT while the Cap movies are, personally, some of my least favorite (although I like his character). And that's okay. It should be a "to each their own" situation. Especially because that's how the comic books are. 😊

I'll say this: I enjoyed the movie more than I thought I would. I just had the title and the trailer to base my judgment on. From those, I was not impressed. But because Thor is my favorite Avenger, I figure I would give it a shot. And I was surprised that I liked it as much as I did. Not my favorite Thor movie (that would be Ragnorok), but I was still entertained.
I actually believe this movie could be solved by simply adding a few more moments of sadness to each tragedy: children being kidnapped, Korg body disintegrated, thor finds out Jane has cancer, Valkyrie being stabbed, Jane getting worse with cancer. All of these moments I just wanted to sit with and see Thor sit with the emotion longer. Without that it didn’t feel real. The danger of the kids being harmed didn’t feel real. I actually think it’s a simple fix that would make the comedy of this movie so much more impactful.

I loved the movie, more than Ragnarok. Ragnarok was fun, but Love & Thunder had so much emotion and character growth.
I also lost my mom to cancer, so I could relate to the struggle Jane went through, and the ending was so beautiful I couldn’t help shedding some tears.
I agree with Taika’s philosophy of using laughter to counteract sadness. And Thor is probably one of the most tragic characters in the MCU (along with Wanda). He lost both his parents, his brother, his best friends… the scene with Starlord was played for laughs, but Thor really doesn’t have anyone to love anymore, so for him to find Love at the end of the movie was beautiful.
The humor overall has hit or miss, but I interpreted a lot of it as Thor trying to deal with his pain by putting on a smile and seeing the humor in life.
Yeah, except they already played the "sad Thor has lost everyone" in Endgame when he is in the spaceship with Rocket. They tossed a low-key joke at that and it worked.
But on the flip side, yes I agree with the idea of humor during sadness. It is a great coping mechanism.

I honestly had the same problem with the marvel what if series, the episodes I liked were the one’s they took seriously, and did not fill with a movie worth of jokes. Mainly the zombies episode, way too many dad jokes in that.

Taika Waititi's antics suited the environment of Sakaar, which itself served as a brilliant counterpoint to Hela's and Asgard's imperial majesty. But there's nothing in this story beyond the Guardians that benefits from that wackiness.

I’m guessing the amount of MCU content is bound to bring about so much criticism. I’m confused with the amount of negativity towards this movie but happy to hear the poll taken revealed that most of the viewers liked this movie. I loved it. Ultimately it really seems that the MCU requiem entertainment to Edit these movies down to 2 hours resulted in this movie being edited down to what we got, a (Taika Watiti comedy space adventure). I guess the editing has to happen it just seems that they may have cut off too much Goor with his death and destruction and kept lots of laughs. I’m cool with it but would’ve loved to have more violence
Why is constructive criticism all of sudden perceived as negativity??? The film clearly had a boatload of tonal inconsistencies that hurt the film tremendously. The film is based on a bleak story. Why insert so much comedy into? Why not just do another story altogether instead of serious one??

Given it was so short, having more Gorr in the first Act would have really worked to set the stakes rather than just giving us a bunch of distress signals. Also, I didn't really like how they basically reset Thor to how he was in Thor 1, it's almost like Ragnarok, Infinity War and End Game didn't happen...they could have told the same story without doing that for the sake of making a few extra jokes.
Overall, I enjoyed the movie, but it wasn't nearly as strong as Ragnarok.
I didn't think it reset Thor. He closed off his heart because of all the people he cared about dying. His friends, family, etc. This movie taught Thor to open his heart again.

I still definitely put Ragnorok as one of best MCU films and better than L&T. I don't think its fair to say this movie was "too silly", it's a Waititi Film I feel like you have to expect the jokes. I also think the original 4hr cut would've explored the intricate details alot better and made more sense. Overall 7.5/10 for me :)

Some of the more intricate deleted scenes like Gorr screaming, going around killing gods and exploring some of the mini arcs more would be acceptable. The movie had way too much content which struggled for sub 2 hour movie.
While I’d like to see a 4hr cut, we can’t expect every movie now to be a super extended version; there are filmmakers that can develop a fully fledged story within a shorter running time
Nothing in this movie cohered. Calling the movie "fun" as a way of saying it's somewhat good is like calling getting blackout drunk and attending a meaningful event fun--because getting drunk is supposed to be fun, uh, yeah, uh, I smort.
Wasted characters, completely undermined emotion thanks to overused jokes. Some jokes would've been absolutely fantastic, had they not been thrown in with and at you every excuse to make them. There is nothing good to say about it.

I'm on the same page as Rachel. People needs to go with the flow. I loved every single minute of this movie. That's coming from someone who's a Huge fan of Jason Aaron's run of Thor. I'm just happy to see these characters on the big screen.
My problem is when the audience accidentally laughs when Jane tells him she has cancer. That tells me the movie is unbalanced.

I had no problems enjoying Thor: Love and Thunder.
The know it all critics and naysayers may slam it all they like but the movie stood on its own merits. Depending on what Rotten Tomatoes says or claims to decide to watch a movie or not is like relying on what Oprah’s Book Club to decide to get a book.
People can still think for themselves.
Taika Waititi had a lot thinking that Love and Thunder will end up campy like 1997’s Batman and Robin but if one took time to listen to the dialog the story was fairly good. It wouldn’t have done for it to have been as serious as Dr. Strange In the Multiverse of Madness, and to exactly copy the God Butcher arc would more likely invite comparison to Endgame with the present day Thor, the younger Thor and King Thor all in one film.
Jane Foster as the Mighty Thor was excellent, ditto Christian Bale as Gorr the God Butcher. He said it best: “And how many times have you prayed to your gods and not received an answer?”
. The mid credits with Zeus resenting the fact that people now put their faith in superheroes more than gods sets up a really good throw down between Thor and Hercules.

I’m sorry but I hate Matt’s take. It feels inch deep. Sure Waititi’s thor is the same kind of character. It wouldn’t have made sense for him not to be since this Thor is both wildly successful and being influenced by the same director. If all the magic of Ragnorok was just in that it was a surprising one time magic trick then this movie was doomed for you no matter what.
I think this movie tells a more interesting story than Ragnorok and does so in a completely fresh and fun way. Without ever feeling preachy it tackles some really interesting ideas about how we express love. That’s just my opinion but I think if the bar is surprising the audience with a new thor character every time then we’re being unrealistic and we aren’t opening ourselves up enough to enjoy the other parts of the story.

One more thing. I liked the ending because it wasn't just about stopping a bad guy ,and the bad guy just killing God s for no reason. All gor wanted was his daughter, and Thor finally reopened his heart for love. So much so to take in the badguy heart, but I do agree it should of been a little more expanded on at the end. Could of definitely been a longer ending. Maybe the seed being planted right after the necropo sword being broken.

This movie was awful. Who’s the target audience, 10 year old boys? They made Thor a sappy idiot, Zeus, WTF? A coward, fat, annoying. Sheesh.
There's a lot of great stuff beneath the surface of the film. Jane going to Valhalla not because she died in the battle, but because her fight vs cancer was a battle. Stormbreaker and Mjolnir were metaphors for Thor and Jane's emotions. The importance of love and childlike imagination in a cynic world. But the humour mostly didnt work which will make people forget about this

I feel this movie is similar to the Star Wars prequels: a lot of grand material wrapped in an ill-fitting presentation.

She literally only got into Valhalla because died in battle lol. They point this out multiple times throughout the film. Her cancer with battle was a battle of morals and learning what is of utmost importance when your own frail life is at stake.

Given the tone of this movie, I think Christian Bale was a weird choice and I wonder if thats reason why he had so little screen time. I think he did a good job and if they had gone hard R, his portrait would have been amazing. That’s the movie I want to see. But I felt like the tone of this was out of his range a little. Also, he did say in an interview that he did most of his scenes by him self and that’s how it felt watching

I thought it was good, not as good as Ragnarok--I liked those themes better. I didn't quite connect with Love, the character. But I have heard from some people who are parents that their kids really liked the idea that they could be heroes too (not just with Love but with the empowering of the Asgardian children) so I think this one might skew younger, which isn't a bad thing for Marvel.
Waititi described this as Thor's "mid-life crisis" movie and also a romantic melodrama. I think those are accurate. I'm not sure I need to see another Thor movie. I would like a Valkyrie film with Waititi, maybe. And more puppet aliens. (Help those poor CGI VFX artists + more puppets = win win)

Dude, the best Thor yet. As a father, I can tell you nerds who don't understand the journey of a boy to being a man to being a father is the very foundation of the Thor series. So guys without kids or a long enough life to understand how he feels, then they are missing out on it. And the scene at the end had me jumping out my seat it was so good. Also, the whole story was told as a story being told by his friend so the details may have been different.
I loved the movie, but it tried to do _way_ too much in a limited span, and threw way too much new stuff at the audience for my liking. (Major spoilers ahead.)
Introducing Gorr and the Necrosword, Zeus and several pantheons worth of deities (including two more Celestials who were a cool inclusion but also a confusing one- you'd think they'd have bigger concerns than watching Zeus preen his feathers), a new thunderbolt weapon that Thor just takes and uses no problem, Eternity and his wish-granting powers (which just so happen to be locked with the Bifrost of all things, how convenient; and the center of the universe is apparently relatively easy to get to, with Thor getting there with little issue... yet no one thought to use Eternity's wish until right now?), Jane and everything tied to her, Valhalla, and littler but still hitherto-unseen things like Heimdal's son... it's a *lot*, and a fair chunk of these concepts could have used a lot more breathing room or otherwise been cut for future use.
What we got was a fun time, but place the fun element to one side for a moment and analyze the thing, and the movie suddenly looks and feels cobbled together and unfocused.
Just saw it today for the first time. I wasn't very impressed overall. It was somewhat entertaining, but the beginning felt VERY rushed, and the rest just lacked something that I can't quite put my finger on. The humor felt a bit too much this time around.
"Thor: Ragnarok" is still my favorite. I could watch that movie over and over...this one I have no desire to see again.

Although I enjoyed the film as a whole, I felt Gorr was out of place as a villian.
The God Butcher saga happened to Thor after I got out of buying monthly comics but from my understanding it's a vast, multi year saga.
So it could've been a new trilogy of movies.
I mean a God killer with he power of Thanos with the necro sword (which in the comics is a venom symbiote or somehting, crazy I know) is too small for 1 movie.
The sword was created by the god of the symbiote Knull, and it has the power to kill even celestials but I feel like with Sony owning Venom and I think anything attached to him they have to alter a bit
Can't do it as a trilogy. Chris might not have 3 more movies in him. So it had to be one and done. Now, they should have put more focus in it. I agree with that. Maybe get rid of the other subplots.
Comic book movies should be a little silly. If they’re too serious, the whole thing is silly - like the Nolan Batfilms. It doesn’t make sense for a guy to be running around in a bat costume in that world.
A little creative and 'silly'? Yes. Love and Thunder was dumb, poorly written, campy, goofy and a cheap parody of Thor and the MCU. Taika Waititi doesn't care about Thor, the comics or the MCU. Most of the jokes were recycled from Ragnarok, stolen from other movies or interest means or were very low brow and not very clever.
Thor lost his mother, father, brother, friends and half of all asgard and the movie jokes about it. Maybe he's trying to hide hide pain by joking about and if he is then atleast address about it. It's as if the past movies events didint even happen.
When ever Christian bale comes on the screen it's intense and felt like something bads gonna happen but the way he's written he is not that intimidating at times. As Matt said a combination of two good things which are bad when combined. Thanos wouldn't like this movie as it's not balanced.
We are now seeing the Thor from “What if?” And they failed to mention that to us

It's actually a fusion Of comedy drama and horror... Every Scene Christian Bale was in Especially the one with the children in the cage... Was like something out of a hellraiser flick... That's what made the scene with the powered up kids so satisfying
You know, I really disliked this movie but I will 100% agree with everything you just said. Lets see Gorr butcher some gods, massively ramp up his screen time, increase the horror, keep a few jokes and that would be a movie I would watch.
I think as a movie is fun, action packed and dont have any problems. but the majority of the criticism is the fact that taika chose to "adapt" 2 of the most beloved thor stories of the comics and they dont look alike at all.
And that is a fair point too, but, in hindsight, they really shoudnt, because of the maturity of the thor stories in the comics are not the target audience of the disney's MCU

The making of this video on UA-cam is nothing more than a response to the mixed reviews about this movie: no one expected specifically those who love the movie to receive mixed reviews about the movie, The same thing happened to the movie Eternals but I think they did a great job with that movie plus, no one wants to give a bad review on Thor as they did with the dark world, this guy quickly came out to give excuses for the directors direction, in the next Thor movie I’m hoping we would have directors to take over the Thor character on the silver screen such as The Russo brothers, James Cameron, Chloe Zhao, Sam Raimi or even Zack Snyder or maybe Christopher Nolan himself would take part in the next Thor film as Director; I think Taika David Cohen forgot that you have adults and grown men with high testosterone that like the character came to see the movie too!!_
I enjoyed the movie. It was funny and entertaining, yet I felt sadness during the end. I use jokes to offset pain, so the tone works for me.
Especially coming off of Dr Strange which was super dark I thought it was a well needed break from the doom and gloom. Actually glad that it doesn’t create all the giant MCU questions and it’s just a good movie without having to immediately lead into something else
Overall I enjoyed the movie but I had two complaints - 1) We did not see enough of Gorr - those scenes of him self-mutilating by removing his religious tattoos would have been so great. We should have seen him kill a few more gods on-screen instead of just seeing pictures. I mean even the battle where Sif lost her arm - SHOW SOME OF THAT BATTLE! 2) Marvel has been introducing many many gods and afterlife realms recently - the Egyptian gods in Moon Knight, Black Panther, the Dragons in Shang Chi, Celestials, etc. They literally introduced a character with " god butcher" in his name yet he did not mention or attempt to kill any of these recently introduced gods. Killing one of the gods from Moon Knight (for example) before going after Thor would have added some real stakes.

My main gripes are
1. Gorr was under utilized: as a being who got the name “god butcher” you would think that the other gods would be a bit more serious about it, but they chalked up his kills to being “low level gods”. He also wasn’t as scary as I hoped, though he would’ve played more mind games.
2. The end scenes: mainly Gorrs daughter, she felt out of place at the end, she should’ve been a motivating character and not a two timer. In my opinion, thor isn’t ready to be a dad yet, he still has to much to go through before he is fit.
3. Korg: while I love Korgs character, he felt out of place In the movie. Sounding both sarcastic and joking at the same time. He also doesn’t fit the narrative of the story and he should’ve stayed at Asgard to oversee the place instead of join the others
1. The whole point of this - and the movie in fact - is that the gods are full of themselves and couldn't care less. The time where Gorr met his deity sets this up. And as Ryan had pointed out in the breakdown, this is a social commentary on wealthy elites living in their own little reality bubble not caring about anything else. To make the gods "care more", would in fact, defeat the theme of the movie.
yeah so he killed low level gods right, and the other gods didnt pay attention and then what if he killed a major god or two and then we see the gods become scared and shit and wed be like wow this god buthcer is actually legit. and then the eternity plan was just thrown out there by zeus like we dont even know why zeus knows gorr's plan. what if they showed like zeus was actually scared but woudlnt show it thats why he knows what gorr might do. the movie was rushed i think.

I think in this movie, we got to see parts of the "Nordic Viking god Thor"
Careless, making fun of battle and that if you die in battle(as a viking), it doesn't matter as something better awaits in valhalla. But he is also aware that there are different realms/dimensions/afterlifes depending on your beliefs. And that is why he doesn't want Jane to die( and pf course because he loves her).
I really enjoyed it, and had fun.
I'm not a fan of the comedy in this movie either but the joke about Lady Sif's arm making it to Valhalla was the only scene my theater actually laughed at
I agree with Matt, They didn't really make a cohesive story. You had wonderful parts... that were put together to form a poorly made movie.
I would have loved to see this movie go one way or the other. Light heartedly dealing with Janes arc or making Gor a true threat to deal with.
I can see this being a Justice League movie that someone re-edits into something special.

Matt said exactly what I couldn’t put my finger on. It was like there were totally different movies. Sadness and Grief against silliness and jokes. I like a roller coaster as much as the next person, but geeze.
Make a thriller/horror movie about Gorr and his god butchering ways. Make a tearjerker movie about Jane, cancer and loss. Make a silly movie for children, hosted by Korg. Don't try to jam all three into one film.

I thought the movie was fun and good. The humor didn’t bother me. Plus it was Taika. I personally am not a huge fan of these types of videos bc people will be like “It was good! But here’s xyz of what didn’t live up to my exact expectations! But it was still good!”.
Maybe I’m just not as picky about stuff but it’s so tiring with any MCU or Star Wars anything people get so nitpicky about really anything they can.
I just realised that the reaso Gorr did not wish to be with his daughter is that he was too embarrassed to thing that he was worthy of us. He had done so many atrocious things, killed so many gods by that point that he thought himself irredemable and likely to corrupt his daughter if he stayed alive. However on the other hand he sees a god in thor so unlike the ones he encountered, one that is caring and still evolving that he consiously made the choice of leaving her with Thor. I am also not entirely sure if love is 100% his daughter. When she comes back, the reflection on the water is eternity, not his daughter.
As for Thor being silly for most of the film, let's not forget, he is 1500 year old. A sort of cynicism and sillyness is required if you don't want to fall to depression after living for so long.
Furthermore, Thor is also, without realising, making himself stronger. It is established in Moon Knight that the more people believing in a God the more powerful that God becomes. Thor, has ledt the asgardians and is now well knowj throughout the universe, woth many people worshipping him as dofferent kinds of god (Thunder, destruction, etc). I do think that we will eventually see that taking fruit at some point
Definately don’t agree with Matt. Awesome movie, music (ABBA), emotional themes, humor and cinematagraphy, all top notch! Gorr definately great villain. Great arch for Thor, Jane, and them together 👌 Definitely not the same (trick) as Ragnarok. If you put both movies together the parallels are definitely not copies
I loved Love & Thunder, and in your recap of the film you helped me see things I didn’t notice which made me love it even more. Can Taika Waititi just make every movie? He’s so damn good at it.

Too many jokes for my taste, I guess I'm just getting old. All the little "HEY LOOK Valkyrie is homosexual!" winks are so forced, like Jesus, I'm not a homophobe by any means but come on. The whole thing with Thor and the axe being in a relationship, ultra cringe. After this I'm done with watching Marvel movies in theaters, I'll just wait a month and watch at home.

I loved the "silliness". I am also a Blazing Saddle, Robinhood Men in Tights, Airplane, Naked Gun, Scary Movie, I'm Going to Get You Sucka, The 3 Stooges, Marx Brothers, Red Skelton, Carol Burnette fan. It's what I was raised on along with my Comics.

I have to disagree. It was like an SNL Thor parody movie. Riding the axe like a broomstick. The love triangle between him and his weapons. The awkward flirting while everyone around them are lamenting the loss of their children. Zeus prancing like a dandy and easily taken out. The mild symptoms of stage 4 breast cancer while on chemo. The list goes on. It was terrible. It even fell behind Captain Marvel, which was a mess.
I was afraid of watching this movie due to reviews blasting it. Finally got a chance to watch it after its release on Disney+ and I loved it even more than Ragnarok. I thought it was a masterful balance between the dark and the humor. Hearing your take is exactly how I felt about Taika's output.
I don't get the "knowing the magician's tricks" argument. Taika doesn't need to tread new ground because it's everything that made Ragnarok so great.
Ragnarok was masterful in its approach to political commentary of nationalism while still being a Marvel film AND interesting enjoyable.
I think a lot of people will enjoy this movie in retrospect.
Talking about the predictibility of the movie. I knew exactly what was going to happen (as you mostly do with superhero movies like Endgame, but they also contain surprises along the way) but still, I was waiting for something surprising to happen, but it didn't. Don't think that I was not surprised because I had watched all the TV spots and all the trailers, I had not. I had only watched the first trailer and nothing else.
I was expecting it to be about 2hrs 20 mins, I want to see what was cut. I did love all the little cameos. ngl anytime Sam Neil shows up in a Taika movie I just get happy. He was amazing in Hunt for the Wilderpeople. But like Taika my mum had cancer, she passed away. My dad got cancer a couple years later and he is now in remission. So certain things hit. I didn't cry in the movie but suddenly at 4am in the morning I was a mess just remembering those moments she suffered and seeing her slowly lose her mind, then flip flop between the insane and the sane to me felt like it hit with Jane going between being Mighty Thor and Jane dealing with cancer. That part with Darci where Jane is squeezing the IV bag is something my mum did as well hoping to make it go faster so she could just get out of there and go do her things and not be held back. The thing about this humour is when you are dealing with dark topics, humour is a coping mechanism for dealing with that at least here in New Zealand and how I grew up. If it's bad then the humour becomes a lot more. It's just how some of us here cope with the pain, even today, yes it's shitty, it horrible and unbearable. But if you can laugh you can feel that for that single happy stupid moment that you're okay and a moment before being consumed by dark again, it can help get you through.
Humor is a good coping mechanism for all of us. So sorry about your mum. Wishing strength to your dad.
I thought the absurd play with Sam Neill, Matt Damon and Luke Hemsworth was the funniest part of the movie, especially when Melissa McCarthy busts in as Hela.
''Jane's cancer was never treated like a joke''? It was shrugged off by attempted comedy several times though, most memorably onboard the Aegir on the way to the shadow realm ... Generally, Natalie Portman seemed so unnatural in this movie, and it was sad to see. She was brought back to do just this one movie, to bring closure to the character of Thor, not Jane Foster. Her arc in this movie seemed so rushed, as every bit of seriousness about her cancer was overplayed by 'not wanting to talk about it'-attitude, and her unwillingness to receive treatment early on was contradicted by her obsession with getting to Mjølnir, and abandoning all her work and interest in it.
Jane Foster was in my opinion, better in the first Thor than in this one. Her cancer death should've been the emotional climax similar to Asgard's destruction in Ragnarok, but because of how the movie had played it, and how unnatural it seemed for Hemsworth too - he seemed to be in a constant struggle between ridiculous and genuine - it lost a lot of weight for me.
Gorr was the very best part of the movie, and I firmly agree with those claiming he was wasted with this little screen time. He was incredible, and I have absolutely no understanding of how he could be offered that little screen time. The best parts were his, and although his origin story worked, I think it should've expanded a little, perhaps starting with him and his family going to a temple to worship and gradually becoming the only ones, with his wife dying, his daughter soon to follow, leading him to look for the god that he is now the only one to worship. That might add more weight. He could've also come across the necrosword in a more interesting way, rather than having it lie right in front of the one god he was looking for, who also happened to have just destroyed its previous wielder. More focus on Gorr and Thor would've been great. Less Korg, less Valkyrie (because she had nothing to do anyway), and there was really no point of Sif appearing either. I think Marvel could improve if they kept their productions more grounded in terms of characters and plot in the future.
I do agree with people that the movie was too silly, especially with the serious tone that was set literally at the start of the movie with Gorr and his daughter. It's fine to have comedic elements but sometimes Taika just goes too for with trying to add humor to everything.
Watch the first two Thor movies, along with the first two Avengers, and then compare those to the Ragnarok Thor. Instead of a believable several thousand year old "god" sounding guy, you get a guy who acts like an idiot, while all the women act sane, and act like they know what is going on. Iron man was funny, but Marvel thinks they can make everyone Iron Man, and people will love it.
I like comedy, but only when it is funny. You don't need a joke every three minutes for a Marvel movie to be good. After Ragnarok, most of the movies don't feel like they are even trying to be real anymore, because nobody acts serious and real.
This movie should of have the Mixed of Serious, and comedy like Infinity war had.
We needed more Gorr butchering the God's for him to feel like a real threat, and the kids getting power scenes was a little goofy.
What was the point of introducing Jane if they were gonna kill her off??
