The Ultimate Saddle Review was born out of my personal desire to find the ONE saddle that I loved most so that I could pass along the information to all the new guys entering the movement. I appreciate the way you presented all of the different saddles. Your video has greatly helped me make a decision on which one I want to purchase. Even your sound track music wasn't overbearing. I've seen more than one video that needed to drop the sound track music, but not this one. As it turns out, I purchased the H2 Tree Saddle, based off of your video presentation. I've been bow hunting since '77 and have used every method imaginable for hunting from a tree. This hunting method will give me options that didn't exist with climbers or hang-on stands. Thanks, again!

This was a phenomenal review. The effort and time that went into it was great. I wish I would have watched it when it first came out. I’ve ordered a cruzr, but I may order an as H2 backup, they are on a 10 week backlog. it was nice to see a methodical, metric based approach to a review. Most “reviews” are pro staffers or company owners buddies, etc highlighting the features of the product they are pumping.
The best review of hunting saddle that I have found. Looking to buy my first hunting saddle and I really appreciate all of your time, effort and honest review. Thanks
Fisher Hawk, I really appreciate the feedback and I'm glad the review was helpful! I hope you find the right saddle for you and that you have a great season!

Really solid review and very well made!!! I can’t speak to the other saddles, but 2 things to note on your TL set up. The carabiner that comes w the Trophyline kit is a pear shaped which allows for the webbing to slide through. Also your tether height seemed pretty high, I think of you tried to bring it down to eye level your hip pinch would have been a non issue. Again great job on the comprehensive reviews!!!
HangTimeOutdoors, GREAT information! I already had all my ropes and gear so I never thought about the TL kit for testing. I also run my tether a little high for my normal setup so adjusting it is a good point. Thanks for the comments!
That's awesome, Allen! Glad to help! I'll be releasing The Ultimate Saddle Review 2.0 really soon so keep an eye out for it. Thanks for the feedback, I really appreciate it!
Thank you for making this video. I am just getting into saddle hunting. And I appreciate your review. I was worried about spending a lot of money and not like a saddle. I now have a lot better idea what way I want to go.

Thank you so much, this is exactly what I needed. I have had a Mantis for several years and while it is very light and portable it is not overly comfortable on longer sits. I really appreciate the time and effort that went into this video!
This was the most comprehensive saddle video I’ve found. Thank you very much. I’m new to saddle hunting and based on your extensive review I’m going with the H2. Thanks again for an outstanding video!
Thank you for the feedback, Robert! I appreciate that and I'm glad it helped! I've done a few other saddle reviews as well since this one so check them out before making a final decision just to be sure. Regardless, the H2 is a great saddle for the price! Have a great deer season!
Great review! I'm a a fan of rocky camo too. I didn't like the look of that jacket but it's pretty styling when you wear it. Probably unintentionally sold me on that too. Thanks
Have you seen the XOP hybrid saddle? Full package with platform is $200 plus state tax. Curious on your thoughts on it. Main differences would be shoulder straps, no belt, and integrated safety tree stand harness with a phantom like saddle.
Thanks for the comment, Christopher! I appreciate you reaching out. I'm hoping to do a review on the Renegade but we'll see if it pans out. Stay tuned!
@@madhuntsadventures I have a follow-up question. I live in the south and the temps during hunting season sometimes are pretty warm. The tethered saddle is mesh but what is the H2 and does it get hot (cause sweating) on warmer days?
@@jameshall7770 I believe the H2 is made of Cordura which is a nylon material. It definitely won't breath like a mesh saddle. You should check out the Cruzr XC! It is my favorite saddle and is mesh. ua-cam.com/video/6wwl-B4L9lg/v-deo.html
Awesome review! I ran a sit drag saddle last year and have been struggling to choose an actual saddle. This was great info I really appreciate it, you obviously put a lot of money and time into it. It's be interested in buying your phantom if you still have it.
Apex Predator Outdoors, thank you for the information! Unfortunately, because I bought so many saddles just for the review, I was buying the saddles only and not the package deals for each in order to save some money. But I probably would have picked up the carabiner had I known prior. Thanks again!
Thank you, I also used a modified sit drag last year because I wasn’t ready to pull the trigger on a commercially made saddle. This was an awesome review.
May want to check out the Tactisaddle ! I logged in over a hundred hrs in that saddle last year including a few all day sits and it worked great! John Tucker makes them here in Michigan. He's a great guy making a great saddle.
Paul, I reached out to Tactisaddle and never got a response back. I'd love to test one out and do a review on it. I will be doing a review on the Treehopper Recon which I believe is very similar to the Tactisaddle. Stay tuned for that review.
Great review! Great video! I would only change one part, the announcement of the weights was confusing until I looked at the header in the spreadsheet. 2 pounds 2 oz not 2.2 oz. I wish I had seen your video before I bought my mantis. Keep up the good work. Happy hunting
Thank you, Robert! I appreciate that! Yeah I accidentally said 2.2 oz and never even realized it until the video was posted. Sorry for any confusion. haha Aaron Wright Outdoors has a video on making the Mantis more comfortable. You should check it out. ua-cam.com/video/-MpOtepNUWs/v-deo.html
Thanks I will check it out. Yea I got the Mantis last year like a week before the Phantom came out. So I have not hunted in it yet who knows maybe I’ll be fine with it.
Thank you, Josh! I appreciate that! The H2 is a great saddle for the money but check out my Crüzr XC video before you pull the trigger on the H2. In my opinion the Crüzr XC is the best saddle out there!
I know this is an older video and someone may have mentioned it before me, but you can get the Aero Kite with Raptor Buckles on your leg straps. I have one that I ordered that way.
That was a great review video. Thanks for making that. I might look into selling my mantis trying a h2 because I have noticed the upward pull on the mantis myself. I also thing the adjustable bridge is a huge bonus.
Thanks, James! I appreciate that! I just recently heard of the Cruzr and watched a review on it. How do you like it? Have you had other saddles to compare it to?
I have owned the Phantom, Mantis, Kestrel, Flex, and Cruzr. The Flex and Cruzr are, by far, the most comfortable to me. The Cruzr is my favorite of all them. Light, comfortable, reasonable price, quality construction, and user friendly. Basically, the best parts of all other saddles rolled into one. Your mileage may vary, of course.
Great video. I appreciate the amount of effort you put into this. I’m shopping for a saddle rig now. I’ll still use some stands on my property but I’m looking for a lighter weight rig and more versatility than my Summit Goliath for some of the public land I hunt which I tend to hike pretty far in. Anything to lighten up and streamline helps with not only getting in and out but for getting a deer out from some of the places I go. The buck I shot early into bow season this year was DEEP into the state forest. I had to make two trips to get him out and then my gear. The climber is very comfortable but it’s bulky and not super comfortable to carry a long way. Thanks!
Thank you for the feedback, Heath! I appreciate it! Congrats on the buck on public! Saddle hunting is definitely a lightweight way to go if you're a mobile hunter! I have other saddle reviews as well that came after this video- be sure to check them out as well before you make a decision! Good luck!
Thanks for the review! I have been looking for the right saddle for about two weeks and I was actually leaning towards the H2 over the phantom just off of all the research and you surely helped me make the right decision much appreciated 👍
Thanks for the feedback, Dylan! I'm glad the review helped! The H2 is a great saddle! You should also check out the Cruzr XC! It cost more but it is a really nice saddle. ...but I'd be happy with either one!
@@anonymous_friendI think the Phantom is a great saddle. But for me, I'd go with the CRUZR XC if I was buying another one. It is FAR more comfortable than the Phantom in my opinion.
@@anonymous_friend I've never sat in the Flex, only the Kite. I like the comfort of the Kite probably better than the Phantom. I've heard the Flex is better than the Kite so based on that I'd probably go with the Flex over the Phantom. I'm not a Phantom hater at all, I just don't think it's the most comfortable saddle. Yes it has a lot of options (comfort fit channels, adjustable bridge, etc., but it's not the most comfortable in my opinion).
Those Buckles on the Aero hunter are the same style that an arborist would use!! So they might be little more complicated but I would almost guarantee there a hell of alot higher quality!!
@@mjoutdoorgear8134 I agree, they have switched to the more common raptor style buckle. Having the raptor style buckle while getting into a saddle in the dark is much easier. It's a little more difficult stepping through the waist belt, bridge, and leg straps like you had to do with the old style. Thank you for pointing that out and for the comment!
Thank you, nemarec! I appreciate that! All of the saddles on the market are very safe, like climbing rated safe, but you'll need to go to each manufacturers website to get safety info. That information is something I don't provide. Thank you for watching!
Very fine review. Ontariofarmer. Your ratings would be close to mine. I buy, try and sell the ones I don’t want like you did. All the saddles are getting to be very good. I still have my recon, H2 and JX3. The flex is comfortable but heavy so I just sold it. Maybe more comfortable than the H2. I am going to try a Crüzr and TX5 next. Perhaps they have the comfort of a flex but not so heavy. The phantom is a good saddle and some guys will prefer it.
Enjoy watching the video, definitely an all in one from the saddles I have been looking at. The only thing that I noticed was when you used the TrophyLine saddle, you didn’t have the Black Diamond Pearabiner carabiner that TrophyLine recommends for the 2” webbing. But overall, definitely one of the best review video.
Thank you for the feedback, Joseph! I appreciate that! You are correct, I did not have the recommended carabiner for the Trophyline but I didn't want to purchase one just for the review. Thanks again!
Jeremy, thanks for the comment! I wasn’t able to purchase every saddle and selected what I felt was the most popular “entry level” saddles. I’ve never tried that saddle but I’d love to try one out for sure!
Really enjoy the reviews! I’m looking at purchasing my first saddle soon. I’ve been looking at the Trophyline Venatic Saddle Kit, Tethrd Phantom kit and Cruzr XC kit. Was wondering what your thoughts are? Thank you!
Thank you for watching, Justin! ...and welcome to saddle hunting! I've not had a chance to review the Venatic yet but the Phantom and CRUZR XC are both great saddles. @@andrewpica2473 Great question, Andrew! In all honesty there isn't a huge difference. They will both work great for you! Yes there may be a weight difference but it will be very little. If you're wanting to save money I'd definitely go with the H2.
@@madhuntsadventures Alright thank you!! Being that I’m just getting into saddle hunting I am definitely leaning more towards the H2 saddle. And possibly down the road upgrading the lines. Trophey line most underrated saddle out there....I dont seem to have any problem that was said.think people over look them..best deal to get into saddle hunting
Thank you for the comment, Houseknives! I do think Trophyline makes a quality saddle and that they're probably overlooked. John, I tried many variations with the comfort channels and leaning/sitting. I definitely agree with you that the lower channel is the best for sitting.
Kevin, I've never sat in the Flex but I did reach out to Aero Hunter in an effort to get one to review. I'm waiting to hear back. The Kite was very comfortable and I've heard the Flex is as well!

Great Review. Just discovered this Saddle Hunting method and am looking into "Saddling Up" this 2021 season. Of the top I had estimated an initial cost of $300 - $400...I think my estimate might be a little low. Perhaps I will start with a modified Sit Drag...Do you have a video on your setup?
Welcome to saddle hunting, RRD! I actually don't have a video on my modified Sitdrag but I should do one! You'll still need to purchase all the ropes, carabiners, etc. but running a Sitdrag will save you on the cost of a saddle. That will also allow you to get a feel for it and help you decide what you're looking for.
Thank you, Joe! Before you make a decision make sure you watch my other saddle reviews. I just released 4 new reviews on 12 new saddles to the market. If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask! Take care.
Shannon, I've reached out to Aero Hunter more than once and they've not responded to me at all. I've also had subscribers email Aero Hunter requesting they allow me to review the Flex and they've still not responded. If you could also send them an email requesting that I could review the Flex maybe they'll finally agree. Thanks for your request!
Great video, been doing so e research and want to get a tree saddle but didn't realize how many options were out there still I started researching, so great video, very informative and greatly appreciated. I'm torn between the phantom and the Eberhart saddle. Leaning towards the Eberhart cause it has more adjustability with the seat/saddle. They aren't super expensive but enough money that the wrong choice is a regret. Any extra input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
Welcome to saddle hunting, Chad! Great idea to research all your options before making a purchase. I have used and own sling style saddles and single and double panel saddles and I personally wouldn't recommend a sling style saddle to a new guy. This is just my opinion but a sling style saddle is harder to use than a panel type saddle and there is a lot more fiddle factor. I have another review where I include the ESS and I have a spreadsheet in the description section that you can look at to see my pros and cons for each saddle. That may help you out as well. Here is a link: ua-cam.com/video/1ir7_Yz2-WQ/v-deo.html
@@madhuntsadventures thank you for the reply. So the tethrd ess is a sling style I'm guessing? I just like being able to have two panel or one. I have used a climbing tree stand for years and ladder stands I build myself. I have no problem sitting all day, if I'm comfortable, mostly why I build my own ladder stands. I do construction/ building so heights, harness and all that I'm not new to, just the hanging part. Any recommendations for a first one? Comfort most important and I think I'ld like the option of back support if wanted but wouldn't always use it. Weight isn't that important as going from a climber to saddle anything is going to be alot lighter. What would you recommend for a first saddle with that in mind? Thank you so much for getting right back to me, your the first and only one so far, of prolly 10 videos I commented on, greatly appreciated.
@@chadbinette3201 Yes the ESS is a sling style which takes more effort to use than a "panel" type saddle. Comfort in a saddle is specific to each person so it's hard to pick one. I personally like the CRUZR XC, CRUZR Archon and Latitude Method as my top three saddles for comfort (and functionality) but there are several out there that are comfortable. If you have the chance to check out Saddlehunter.com you could post a comment asking if anyone lives in your area that would be willing to meet up so that you could try out a saddle or two before you purchase one. If you don't have the ability to do that one of the saddles I mentioned would definitely be a great saddle to get into. Hope that helps!

I have been doing a ton of research and have all the saddles tested on my radar. This video helps a ton with questions that wouldn’t be easily answered by a website. I would be interested to connect on one of the saddles.
Daniel, thanks for the reply! I appreciate the information. You can email me at madhunts2@gmail.com for more information.
A great in depth and honest review. For someone looking to get into saddle hunting and who lives in another country,Australia. It has greatly helped me in my quest to get into this style of hunting. I have also just signed up to the saddle hunting forum as well, hoping for more great tips from everyone on there.
Many thanks for your time and effort MADHUNTS. I’ll be looking at the H2
Thank you, Adam! I really appreciate that and am super glad to help! Welcome to saddle hunting! ...and to the forum! I also posted a few other videos (with free drawing to win a saddle/sling) that you should check out:

G’day. Yes when I subscribed to your channel and went through a lot of your previous videos. I saw the one about the sling harness. I put my hand up to be in the draw.
Cheers
This was a phenomenal review. The effort and time that went into it was great. I wish I would have watched it when it first came out. I’ve ordered a cruzr, but I may order an as H2 backup, they are on a 10 week backlog. it was nice to see a methodical, metric based approach to a review. Most “reviews” are pro staffers or company owners buddies, etc highlighting the features of the product they are pumping.
The best review of hunting saddle that I have found. Looking to buy my first hunting saddle and I really appreciate all of your time, effort and honest review. Thanks

I have to say I really appreciate the content. Your video was BY FAR the best I have seen with an in-depth and analytical review of these saddles.
Thank you, Garrett! I really appreciate that!
I was looking for this video. Had a bunch of options all together instead of searching for individual reviews. Good job sir 👏
Awesome, Tim! Glad it helped! Hope you have a great season!

Absolutely 100% amazing review. I have been tossing around the idea of getting into saddle hunting for the past year and a half. As always being brand new to something, I am the kind of person to fill myself full of knowledge on all available gear, before pulling the trigger on purchasing. This review helped me tremendously... Thank you for taking the time to thoroughly review, and explain your findings. Very much appreciated, and job well done. SUSCRIBED

Thanks
Haha! Jackcbr600, thank you! I appreciate that! I like that Camo! It’s not $1000 but it’s nice! Lol
Stay tuned!
Wow. Lots of unknown info to help a beginner use to decide on which may be the most effective one to buy. Thanku

Awesome review! I ran a sit drag saddle last year and have been struggling to choose an actual saddle. This was great info I really appreciate it, you obviously put a lot of money and time into it. It's be interested in buying your phantom if you still have it.

Thanks for the feedback, j.l! I appreciate it! Glad the video was helpful.
Awesome video. Thanks! Just to note, if you buy the kit, the Trophy line comes with a larger carabineer for the bridge.
Apex Predator Outdoors, thank you for the information! Unfortunately, because I bought so many saddles just for the review, I was buying the saddles only and not the package deals for each in order to save some money. But I probably would have picked up the carabiner had I known prior. Thanks again!

Awesome, Jack! Glad it helped! I have three other saddle/sling reviews and in two of them I'm giving away one free saddle and one free sling!

Thanks I will check it out. Yea I got the Mantis last year like a week before the Phantom came out. So I have not hunted in it yet who knows maybe I’ll be fine with it.
Great video man, I was set on the trophyline until watching this.
Now I want an h2
Thank you, Josh! I appreciate that! The H2 is a great saddle for the money but check out my Crüzr XC video before you pull the trigger on the H2. In my opinion the Crüzr XC is the best saddle out there!

Awesome! Glad to help, Todd! ...and welcome to saddle hunting!
That was a great review video. Thanks for making that. I might look into selling my mantis trying a h2 because I have noticed the upward pull on the mantis myself. I also thing the adjustable bridge is a huge bonus.
Great job man. I looked at all these as well as the flex and cruzr. Decided to go with the cruzr.
Thanks, James! I appreciate that! I just recently heard of the Cruzr and watched a review on it. How do you like it? Have you had other saddles to compare it to?
MADHUNTS Adventures Just ordered it. Should have it in about 3 weeks. It will be my first saddle.
Awesome! Make sure you let me know what you think once you’ve tried it out! I’d love to review that one sometime!
I ordered a Crüzr too. Your ratings on these saddles are close to mine
Good luck!
This is the best review I have seen! Thank you for this content!
Thank you for the feedback, Jamin Klingensmith! I appreciate it and I'm glad it was helpful!

Just sold first saddle ( kestral aero hunter because of shoulder problems. Purchased a tethered Phantom. Very interested in the CruzeR
Jack, the CRUZR is SUPER comfortable! Check out my review on the CRUZR!
What do you think of phantom? already looking for something else?
@@anonymous_friendI think the Phantom is a great saddle. But for me, I'd go with the CRUZR XC if I was buying another one. It is FAR more comfortable than the Phantom in my opinion.
MADHUNTS Adventures Thanks man. How about the Kestrel Flex, where would that fall in line with those 2?
You might be right, M&J Archery! Thanks for watching and for the comment!
I know on There new models the Buckles are quick dis connect!! Thanks for putting out a great unbiased Video!!
Great job. Appreciate the research and neutral evaluation.
Thank you, RedSox Fan! I appreciate that and I'm glad to help!

Really appreciate this review. I just want to know more about the safety and how well it will hold up as far as stitching.
Thanks, Ontariofarmer! I appreciate the comment!
...and it sounds like you have a TON of experience in multiple saddles! Ill keep you in mind if I’m looking for a future saddle!
MADHUNTS Adventures I try them and sell them like you. Your review was fair and excellent. I have never tried a kite.
Thanks again!
looking at the cruzr since i cant get the yarak. i did the same thing with the sit drag and hate to waist money. thanks for all your work
Thank you, MaxxHeadroom! I appreciate that! Yeah the Sitdrag definitely works, but it doesn’t compare with the other saddle options!
You forgot the JX3 Hybrid. That is my favorite. I use the Trophyline for quick hunts but for most hunts I would rather carry the JX3.
Jeremy, thanks for the comment! I wasn’t able to purchase every saddle and selected what I felt was the most popular “entry level” saddles. I’ve never tried that saddle but I’d love to try one out for sure!
Thanks for taking the time to do this.
Absolutely!
Really enjoy the reviews! I’m looking at purchasing my first saddle soon. I’ve been looking at the Trophyline Venatic Saddle Kit, Tethrd Phantom kit and Cruzr XC kit. Was wondering what your thoughts are? Thank you!
