3D Archery 2024
After three years off my wife and I hit the 3D range so I could clear the cobwebs. I'm planning on rebuilding my form and shooting skills as my scores continue to climb over the summer season.

    I'm also going to attempt a summit this Sept (2024), thanks for posting this video. I realize there are no maps but how did you determine there was an alternate route? I'm assuming (on your second attempt) you followed the same path (as the first attempt) then at some point you just broke off that trail to pick up the alt route? I guess you just have to hope for some cairns to mark the trail. Thanks again!

    • @madhuntsadventures
      @madhuntsadventures 14 днів тому

      Hope you have a great summit, Greg! I'd love to do that hike again. 👍🏼 If you pause the video at 3:58 that is the gravel start of the knife edge. The red rocks ahead are the start of it and where I turned around my first attempt. If you go that far you've already passed the easier route to the summit. While paused at 3:58 you can see the loose rock valley down to the left, that is where you want to be. If you pause the video at 7:18 and 7:26 you'll see the valley of loose rock and if you look up to the right (7:26) you can see the knife edge from frame 3:58. I hope this all makes sense. Basically, as you're nearing the summit, you'll want to keep an eye out for a trail that breaks off to the left and takes you up the valley where you'll have to scramble up the loose rock. It was a little hard to follow the trail but people have stacked rocks so look for those. Hope that helps! Make sure to let me know how it goes in Sept! 🤜🏼

      @@madhuntsadventures it will come back fast. Like just few weeks. I had gall bladder surgery and had to wait 6 weeks. Had to back off bow 10 lbs and then it was a chore. ( I shoot year round ). I worked hard a few shots every day. In four weeks I was drawing max DW just fine and shooting very well. I’m 73 years old and it was a challenge deluxe to get back ready for deer season.

    I got into saddle hunting several years ago because I liked mobility. I wanted to be able to hunt from the ground and then move to a tree if i wanted to without hauling a bulky stand. I started with my father-n-law’s tree spurs and arborist harness. When I put an arrow in a doe in the swamp behind my house I was hooked. Unfortunately I didn’t find that doe, but I started investing in the right equipment and love “one sticking”. Thanks for sharing your opinion. Saddle hunting is not as popular in my area because it’s legal to bait and hunters typically set up permanent stands. I thoroughly enjoy it because it makes hunting more interesting and mobility forces you to learn how to hunt deer in their element. I also use a rifle with my saddle as well. God bless!

    That’s actually not a Cornell hitch. Your tying it incorrectly. When you bring the top leg down and across, go under your tether and over the other leg of the hitch and poke under the x. You went under the other leg not over, missing a big portion of the friction hitch!

    I thought 1 sticking used 1 stick as stick AND platform, so actually 1 stickong wpuld not have a platform fall off, as the platform would be attached to tbe tree! Would the mudflap work well to hold the majority of a rappelling rope if 2 tether climbing or stick clombing?

    I just went through your spreadsheet which is a great bonus, thanks. My issue is I am currently at 289 but still going down. Which, if any, of the saddles you have reviewed would you recommend for large hunters? I know I will be under the 300lbs weight limit, but I am worried about the waist/side pinch. Thanks

    • @madhuntsadventures
      @madhuntsadventures 20 днів тому

      Great question, gcaskew (and sorry for the delay)! Well there are several great saddles out there but since you've mentioned you are a bigger guy I would recommend talking to the saddle manufactures that will custom build a saddle for you. One in particular is Custom Gear Modifications (CGM). If you contact Jerry (tell him I sent you) he will talk with you and custom build a saddle for you/your size. The Cobra saddle by CGM is a great single panel saddle with a pleat that expands for comfort. As far as the hip pinch concern, I would order a HPE (Hip Pinch Eliminator) from Genesis 3D Printing (let Austin know I sent you) and you won't have to worry about ANY hip pinch from any saddle ever. It is a GREAT product. Hope that helps!

    Just bear with me. I took down my latest SRT climbing & rapell system out of a climbing 🌳 in my yard. I did it an hour after sundown in chilly MN. All o had to assist was my dim headlamp. I also 30 feet up in a maple 🌳. The crotch or union in the 🌳 is @ 32' feet. I repelled down from 30' & collapsed my whole system in the dark in less than 5 minutes. The preset I use to attach my climbing rope to the 🌳 was tied nicely 7' up. My system is a Sterling CRV 9MM rope with a large sewn loop. That sewn loop is what the tag end of my SRT climbing line goes through to the ground. A length of paracord that has a loop @ the end attached to a clip @ the base of the large sewn loop is all that is needed. I simply pull the girth hitch out of the tree. When the loop is on the ground the other end of the paracord loop I going over the crotch 3×' up. When that comes down u simply wrap the clip & the loop around a 🌳 like 7' off the ground. Exactly like u would do after an evening hunt. If u take 8 feet of Oplux there is a way to make an adjustable redundant bridge that is not single but double Oplux with just one single link of chain & no carabiner. I do alot of 🌳 cutting up off the ground & the redundant bridge supports my lifeline in case something in the tree fails that I'm tied into that I have a backup to another 🌳 nearby which will avoid me from hitting the ground. It's a very easy to tie the redundant bridge that way. My saddle is tied on the right side & on the left the Oplux simply just threads its way to the loop on the left & comes back to the right side to finish the hitch system. 😮😅

    The goal of Saddle Hunters is to be light weight whereas the goal of people who do a Rucking workout program is to carry heavy weight for long distances.
