  • Video is kept as short as possible but shows all the key areas to remove the radio,I also show how to get a switched live from the fuse box.
    The car in the video is an amplified model but I installed the normal cable due to running a bypass on the old faulty under seat amp.(not shown in video)
    Note 1 - check to see if your car has an amp(most with amp have seven speakers) if it does you will need this - www.caraudiodir...
    Also may need a closed loop isolate if you get interference.
    Note 2 - If your car have fibre optic outputs from the radio you will be looking at a complete rewire.
    Note 3 - on active amplified systems you need to connect pin 8 on the larger connector to the amp and in most cases pin 6 on the smaller connector to power the amp via remote output on the radio.
    Note 3 - If you have connected your new radio up and have no sound then either your interface is faulty or you have used a normal none amplified cable on a amplified car. It is possible to use a normal cable but it will need adapting so is far better to get the right cable in the first place.
    IF IN DOUBT PAY A PROFESSIONAL.

    Oh my i was lucky that I installed the icm 3 sat nav unit from a 2005 saab in my 2003 and it worked it was prewired and I added aux but in the boot of the car I had to wire it up with an extra fiber optic cable but had to get power from somewhere for the cd sat nav unit which was a pain but the car is basically an aero now with the engine that I put in it and so many more :)

    I’m in my 9-3 2008 trying to hook up my old Sony 1-DIN stereo. The unit gets power and is responding to steering wheel controls etc, but there is no audio coming out of the speakers. It is silent as in the vacuum of space. What might be wrong?

    This does not work for a 05-06 93. They utilize fiberoptic cable bundles and loop through the CD player. If you change any of this, I understand that the car will have major problems. There was never any AM stereo parts or replacements made for these years.

      i thought the same but i removed my cd player and radio and climate control ' which all have fiber optics in it and was able to drive the car with no problems. i did not have turn signal clicks or any noise but the car ran fine. as long as you dont remove the icm you should be good

    So you did not have to divorce the original unit from the Canbus system using a tech2 first to still be able to start the car?
    I thought that had to be done with every 9-3 radio? Can you specify for which radio units that is a requirement?

    • @PJsprojects

      Never done that in all the years of working with car electronics.

    • @winandd8649
      @winandd8649 10 місяців тому

      @@PJsprojects Normally car stereo units are separate from the crucial electronics to run the car. With Saabs like the 9-3 and 9-5it's not that easy. When turning the key to acc position, the car will lookk for all canbus modules. If the radio is not found, it gives am error and th car won't even start.
      Maybe it's only applicable to the pre interior facelift models up to 2006?

    Hi and thanks for the video. On an amplified model (Saab 9-3, 2008), would the autoleads amplified harness (PC 2541?) work just the same as the Connects 2 CT 53-SA01? Also, with the Connects 2 CT 53-SA01 would I still have to generate a switched live (the red wire (fly lead))? Thanks.

    • @PJsprojects

      Just be aware that both makes of cable may have background interference and so might need a suppressor that goes from line out on the rear of your new radio and then in to the front rca jacks of the cable used. Both will need a ignition switched supply from the fuse box.

      Or you can loop the fiber optic cables together to bypass the amp system. You will lose your 2 door speakers but can run an after market amp anyway to power more speakers. Or get a fiber optic loop connector. I just connected the two fiber optics with insulation from another wire so the faces we're facing each other and talked it really well

    • @PJsprojects
      @PJsprojects  4 роки тому

      The optic cable is a twin thick black cable that is more ridged than a normal wire.
      All the normal wire are just wrapped in insulation tape.

    Also is there any sure way to tell if the sound system is amplified or not? Is there some "box" that should exist or not under the driver's or codrivers seats or in the boot?

    • @marcmcclinchy9774

      My Saab in America had an amp under the driver's seat, or one in the trunk mounted between the two rear speakers.

    Hi just wondering if you can help, trying to wire a double din into my 08 93, I have purchased the connects 2 kit with everything you need, the unit powers on fine but I have no sound from any source, I have connected the blue and white wire from the head unit wiring loom to the connect 2 harness and still no joy

    • @PJsprojects
      @PJsprojects  5 років тому

      Sounds like you have an active system and the amp is not switching on. You new double din unit could have two blue wires,one for electric antenna and the other for remote amp turn on,if you have got two and used the one for antenna then you should only get sound when radio is on but nothing when other sources are used.
      Just double check your amp is getting a remote turn on power signal.

    I've just fitted a Pioneer sph-da120 in my 2007 saab 9-3 and have the factory amp in the boot (not Bose!). The lead i used was a Connects2 CT20SA04 which uses the headunit preouts which on the Pioneer are 4v which apparently match the Saab amp. Sound level is perfect but I feel I have lost some bass from the door speakers compared to the factory headunit. I also get a barely audible click. Am I better using the speaker output along with Line Ouput Converters? Everything else checks out setting and wiring wise!!

    • @PJsprojects
      @PJsprojects  6 років тому

      Stick with the rca outputs as they are far better than going the speaker output route. The sound is just a small side effect from the original amp no longer being factory matched.

    • @27hardtail13
      @27hardtail13 6 років тому

      PJs projects Thanks for the reply! So will the sound be similar through speaker output and line output converter then? I may just go down the route of an additional amp and sub......Just a small one!!

    • @PJsprojects

      Yes similar but line output would always be best to try and avoid feedback buzzing.

    Since you seem to be a Badass when it comes to stereos any idea what to do if thr stereo locked after removing the battery?

    • @PJsprojects
      @PJsprojects  6 років тому +1

      The radio will be in one of two states, either simply waiting for the correct code or locked due to the wrong code being input to many times.
      If it's simply waiting a decode shop should be able to do it quickly and cheaply but if it's in a locked state then it will cost more. In the day when the Saab dealers were around you could give them the serial number from the radio and most of the time get a code but sadly as we all know that's not possible now.

      My advice would be to take is slow and be watch the top air vents don't fall apart,if they do it is a very fiddly job to rebuild them. Other than that make sure your car is not one of the ones that has a amp running the speakers via a fibre optic cable. If it is then you may be best to let a pro company look at it.
