David Tennant has to be the best doctor it's a personal opinion but I havent watched dr who in years because it changed so much that it lost what made it great back in Tennant and eccleston aera. Now it's not catered to teens and above and suitable for them its seems like they made it for little children instead. They always had a interest sudo sience explaining to what's going on and now nothing of it makes any sense

If I remember correctly, Martha's cousin was already dead because of the thing shoved in her brain. The Doctor just removed the thing that was puppeteering her corpse.
Hence the "Put to rest" comment rather than the "Put to death".
It's iffy. I thought that too but there's a book where the Doctor recalls that he killed them all, so 🤷🏾♀️
Funny thing is that hospitals just get more statics electricity than other places. It's the lino floors and all the stainless steel. You really notice it if you push a trolley or a wheelchair anywhere in them.

Honestly Martha was so underrated not only did she save the doctor multiple times (and the world) but she was strong enough to realise that the relationship was toxic, so she moved onto better things.
I feel she came into her own when she went off to save the world . She was better and stronger on her own it seemed to me . I wasn’t a fan til she went off and did her thing . Donna will still be my favourite companion. Also Ace from the 80s . I wrote to the lady who played her (Sophie Aldred) when I was about six . She was about 19. She wrote back and sent me some merch, and we were pen pals for a short while . Incredibly sweet and down to earth lady, and to take the time out to hand write letters to fans of the show was incredible!!

@@leoaranzaa I stopped watching with Matt Smith, I tried again unsuccessfully with Capaldi (as I love him in the thick of it) and i didn’t even attempt with the woman Dr . I’m not a fan of hers in general . I may watch when Donna and Ten return briefly. To me the show has lost its way . I just stick to watching my old faves with 9 and 10 . The golden years for me
@@littlemy1773 to me there was no connection between Jodie Whittaker and the character of the doctor, she said herself that she never watched or got into the show before being the doctor. Her seasons really lost me as a doctor who fan but I’m definitely optimistic with the new doctor that will be coming!
@@leoaranzaa I’m prepared to give it a go again, and I even think the new Dr after ten, looks like he could be quite good . He seems to have an interesting energy to him . Storyline dependent tho, if it’s going to get woke like most things are now I’ll be off like a shot . I watch things like this to unplug, and to relax not to be moralised and lectured at. Even if some of the points I agree with, I just want to suspend belief and laugh too. Laughing is an integral part of who, as well as moments that can make you cry

IMO this is the best series premier of the revival. Like a hospital on the Moon, that's just a great idea, and then the episode keeps subverting expectations. The only other premier that comes close (and I'll admit it comes very close) is Partners In Crime.

I've never met anyone who hated on Martha. In general the response I've had from friends and acquaintances is "Oh yeah. Much better than Rose."
2:50 yeah, that's a theme in Series 3. Martha is an underdog. But to do an underdog story, you gotta have a recurrent bully. The only other recurrent character is the Doctor, so yeah he's a bit of a prick this season. Weird decision on Russell's half.

Gridlock is my favourite episode of this series, please don't skip it. Even if you shit on it, I would kill for a review
It's got a great dystopian killer, a clever narrative hook, some of RTD era's best examples of random universe building characters, and of course the Canonical death of Captain Jack, the reveal of the You Are Not Alone series hook AND of course that brilliant speech at the end about Gallifrey!

It was my very first episode of that show… about 10 years ago now. It’s definitely not flawless but it holds a deep place in my heart

I actually like the Lazarus Experiment. It's not brilliant, and is probably one of the worst in the series, but it's not TERRIBLE.

Gridlock is brilliant.
I disagree that the medical student was a coward. He was the first to talk to the judoon despite clearly being afraid, and the he follows them afterwards to try and calm the hundreds of terrified people. I mean, sure, he wasn't a hero in the sense that he didn't try and fight them and him taking all the credit was a dick move, but he definately wasn't a coward.
Doubt I'll get a response but when did the Moving Castle settle down and become a Haunted House??
I think he didn't own up because, while he can put two and two together and assume that woman was Martha's cousin, the building itself was quite massive so he could've assumed her cousin was somewhere in the building
Great review, and I did enjoy this episode. There were a couple of minor details about the episode that bugged me a little - what kind of a way to “catalogue” someone is to draw an X on their hand with texta? It hardly seems very copy-proof. And when Martha grabbed the Judoon’s scanning device and shone it in Florence’s eyes, (a) how did she know how to use it, and (b) why didn’t the Judoon kill her, or at the very least reprimand her, for unauthorised use of their equipment? But for the most part I’m prepared to suspend disbelief for the sake of enjoyment.
The words "subverting expectations" are thrown around a lot these days but you used it appropriately for this review!
Oh, David Tenant is in this episode. Episode good.
This was my first ever episode as a kid so it's got a special place in my heart. The next episode terrified me!
3:41 ............ that only just clicked for me after nearly 13 years. The Doctor mercy killed a companion's family member without hesitation.
Martha was a great companion, far better than the recent companions from Bill to the current bunch.
-Good & interesting character development throughout the series;
-Intro epsiode was good in contrast to bore of series 10;
-Smart way to introduce her family through various phone calls;
-I like how they subtley included racism in episodes set in the past so that its referencing historic racism but subtle about so that episode is still family friendly.
More to the point. It references past racism without just beating you on the head with "feel bad yet?" kinda attitude.

The Judoon are pretty cool. I also found a translator website with a tutorial and am now teaching myself how to speak Judoon online, so there's that.

This was the first episode of Doctor Who I ever watched at the age of 6 and since then I became a super hardcore fan for my whole childhood so it definitely did something right for me anyway!

The Jadoon were okay, but I'd hardly call them stunning. It's basically just a Rhino chewing air. I would have preferred something a bit more imaginative and less 'animal of the week' turned humanoid.
I kinda like their armor and police guns though. Honestly I personally love DW aliens that aren't necessarily evil, but just doing their jobs

I rather look forward to seeing your series 3 reviews (hopefully on a more regular basis than series 2 hmmmmmm) as I remember watching series 3 at 4 years old more vividly than series 1&2 so I expect some strong nostalgia from these reviews.
Can’t wait for the family of blood and blink reviews because I think they are quite possibly the best back to back run of episodes in the entire new series.

Something else with the jadoon captains design is that he's also animatronic, meaning not only did it have to look good but it had to have electromechanical elements built into its design while still having room for a person's head!

I wouldn't say that the junior doctor was cowardly per say. He was mostly doing the right thing in doing what he could to stop everyone from being killed.
The Jadoon are basically an update to the Sontarans, and there were probably a fair few fans expecting a Sontaran under the helemet, but instead we got law obsessed awesome looking Rhino men.

8:18 cowardly? How was he cowardly he's the one who approached a bunch of scary looking alien and try to communicate with them. He was one of the bravest. Yes he didn't try to attack them, fortunately for him
I still love that sidecharacters that die don't get massive fanfares to lead them off.... Sure there's response to it quite often, but it's not overdramatized.

There is no romantic relationship between Doctor and companion in Classic who if I can remember, other than Baker and Romana II

While Series 3 wasn’t a banger, I loved the Judoon. That look and their speech are really fearsome and intimidating.

This was my first ep, followed the series as it aired and caught up with everything else in time for series 4.

I hated Martha as a kid, Billie Piper was the only companion I knew and was so devastated to see her go. Still looking back on Martha now, she’s leaps and bonds ahead of anyone in the recent series.
