At the beginning of the test run, it sounded like a 2 stroke mopped. I was even thinking if it was due to the small piston size however after the adjustment of the timming, man, it sounded like a baby V8! Great job!!!
@BIGSMOKE-bl2lq only problem with a heavy flywheel is it will lose throttle response. This being a gasoline engine, he can tune it almost infinitely for fast response, smooth run, or low-end torque. As quick as it responds to throttle right now... I can see him blowing a pair of tires of a car QUICK... slow revving will ruin that, and that's what a heavy flywheel would do.
I can't believe how good that idle sounds on that tiny engine. Actually, the whole range and throttle response is awesome for such a small engine. I think that idle sounds better than the other engines he's built.
What if you connect those engines to a heavy flywheel like thing, it would make easier to idle at a lower RPM and also show better the sound of it under load
This thing sounds AWESOME at idle! At first I was like 'man that sounds like a 2 stroke dirt bike' but after the adjustment, I was like gosh darn that sounds just like a V8!
If you pull the head off one bank, a regular flathead V8 can still run off the remaining 4 cylinders (poorly obviously). Wonder if the the model can do the same
While watching.. I saw exhaust coming from the left side.. but no smoke on the right.. even after the tune. I was thinking the right side wasn’t running
Wasn't it? The whole video I only ever saw exhaust from one bank. You even see discoloration on the table beneath it from one bank only. If it is firing on all 8 it's got a pretty bad imbalance in the intake.
Wow! This is REALLY different! First time I've seen a flathead with the exhaust ports actually run through the heads. I thought I was seeing things at first, until you put those little U-tubes coming out in between the intake ports on the manifold. It actually seemed to run pretty well after you advanced the timing a bit. Pretty cool little engine, and even cooler that it uses what looks like, almost the same block as the OHV V-8!😉👍👍
This was awesome to watch. It took like 5 minutes to find this video from a Facebook reel that was way zoomed in. What an awesome little thing and now I want one for a bench top engine in the shop.
I’m surprised you don’t need to put petroleum jelly on the sleeve before inserting it into the block and o-ring seals. Love these tiny motors. You know Johnny, there is a fellow that builds tiny motor to scale that make real power. I believe he machines everything in house. I think he works for Hendrix at nascar. The motors are miniature stock car engines and are quite a bit bigger then these, maybe 4-5 times larger. They make real horse torques and would be awesome in one of your projects and I’m sure you could go there and build it with him. It be an awesome project.
@@raymond_rayder yes, I can’t remember which other channel I was watching and it was in the background but got a lil bit of screen time cause they seen it and found it cool….cause it was, but if I remember or find it I’ll post it up.
@@vi23a it was in the back of another channel I was watching and not featured. But got screen time cause they seen it and it’s awesome. If I remember it find it I’ll post it up.
Wow, that thing sounds absolutely awesome. Took me a minute to figure out what they were doing with that weird intake setup, but now that I get what they're doing I find it actually pretty darn clever. I'd really love to have one of those, but it's a bit pricey for something that I would probably just having sit on a shelf to stare at and run once in a while. Lol. Anyway, that was a great build video. I can't wait to see what you end up doing with it.
All these build videos are great! Been watching your channel for years! I always wonder what kind of power all these little engines make.... An engine dynamometer to compare all these awesome builds would be so cool!!!!! Dyno Shootout between tiny engines!
I’d have to say despite being a side valve and a step back in tech it’s appearance is of higher quality! I’m impressed with the main caps and bearings.
Subscribed !!! Thank you for the inspirational content !!! I'd love to see some short gasser type exhausts added at least. Looking forward to seeing more excellent content 👍 .
How do the exhaust ports exit the cylinder heads? Never saw a flathead like that. Best engineered model I have ever seen. Built like a heavy duty motor, it should actually be able to do some work for awhile. Block is obviously based on an SBC.
This V8 has one of the most interesting valvetrain design choices ive seen. Its not pushrods, but it still has a similar setup. The heads really are flat....
Torque your screws from corner to opposite corner! It helps more evenly distribute the load. At least, that’s what was screwed into my mind as an apprentice.
I know you said you couldn't use the torque screwdriver on the rod bolts, but then you used it for the sump pan bolts which are like M1.4 and also threaded on aluminum. What is the lowest torque it can be adjusted to? Rad little engine!
much more satisfying than building a normal engine thats for sure (Y) i wanna build one of these myself but my patience isnt up to the task quite just yet :P
Johnny, Please look into building a laver to accelerator rather than using hands for the Carbs. Strong solid table to prevent motor from vibrating. :) Thanks Johnny

Here’s what I would really like to know, what is the part # for the torque driver you are using please?
@Johnnyq90 hi, what make and model is the torque driver please?
Pls do something with the engine, like putting it on a boat or drag car
Yes agreed. A twin v8 boat cat style would be amazing
Are any of these motors ever put in anything? I always thought that due to the cost of the motors, they were given to him on loan.
@@ronsteelable9405They crank some 6-8 HPs, perfect for building DIY scooters out of a bicycle frame
Into a Riva 😊
@@ronsteelable9405 No, he puts them in rc cars, he has a few build series on some of them.

Moped*** Lol
You have GOT to do a 30s rat-rod coupe with this thing! Big ol' Mickey Ts on the back, side pipes, chop-top, no-hood rat-rod.
My thoughts exactly plus make a much much heavier flywheel so it runs somoother will sound and drive around way nicer
Definitely 2rd this bro👆👍
I wanna see him turbo something. If he could make one that would be really cool but he could buy one and put it on something that would be cool too

i second this
The engineering and machining on these models are phenomenal.
Good yes ruff af compared to high end machining and tolerances in race engines or yet again those lunatics over in formula 1
For no more than they cost, I'm thoroughly impressed.

I defiantly have to say this is one of the better sounding engines I've heard and seems very responsive
Everything about this build is a thing of beauty. And oh my, what a sound.
What if you connect those engines to a heavy flywheel like thing, it would make easier to idle at a lower RPM and also show better the sound of it under load
Easy easy on the camshaft bro 😂
I was thinking the same by by cam bearings
@@radcarmodifications as you can clearly see cam bearings are build into (onto?) The cam shaft. There is no way to slam a lobe into the bearing
I'm pretty sure that was the quietest JLPCB ad I've ever seen. Someday we may see and hear this expert craftsman. Perhaps, before I die...😂
He did do voiceover at least on one video.
Real Piston Rings , That is a Very Cool Looking Engine!

Same with ohv pushrod engines. They used to make industrial air compressors with ford 460s with one bank compressing and the other running.

Having the time and patience for building. This is something I could not do well done. Mate, keep it up, love the videos.

Amazing! Thank you for sharing this awesome video. Greetings from Madang, Papua New Guinea!
That was awesome, it was amazing how you put the engine together.
This one has for sure one of the better looking camshafts
Sound awesome! now put longer straight running tubes with an H pipe and itll sound even more badass
Such an improvement from the last V8 you built. Please do another RC. Something awesome. I know you’re capable. You’ve proven that for sure!
you need to build 1/5 scale ac cobra with side pipes for that motor ASAP lol
That would look great in a model T-Bucket!
so many nice things on youtube. like a kid in a toy shop. save your pocket money forever and can still only afford a pack of stickers! 😄

Holy crap! They're not cheap
OMG that sounds amazing.
You should supercharge it but build your own Latham axial flow supercharger for it! You are seriously a machining wizard.

I love the dual carbs
man this thing sounds *_ROWDY_*

But I know that the mad engineer will get it goin again my friend. 👍🏻😎👍🏻
Awesome kit. It's an interesting contrivance that the exhaust path travels from the head to the block, only to go back into the head again.
Hello, I'm Indonesian. I really like that you make very nice miniature machines

I am impressed with your workmanship I am building a 32 pickup and need flathead measurements
I would put that awesome motor in a 1932 Ford Coupe body that's as exact as possible to the real thing.

You should make different custom exhaust and test different sounds w them. That'd be pretty cool to see and experiment with.
Wow I love it. Sounds great
Great what a lovely little engine! I whole minute of it just running would be fine you know!
That tuning made all the difference
Nice cooling system 😊
Now, need add supercharger and start project RC Boat with V8 🔥
Glad your channel is around because no way in hell i could afford these engines
I would lap all the valves in these engines for proper seal, great vids as always!
13:33 We love the Noctua fan
Another great build, sounds awsome aswell
Wow! That sounds badass! Very cool build and video. Newly subscribed
Awesome. As usual!

That thing sounds good!
When will there be a RC DIESEL ?!?!
Gotta be the tiniest common rail system 😂 but I guess it'll be way simpler electrically.
14:47 sounds just like a mini big cam V8!
Awesome video as always Mr. Q90.
I think these micro engines are awesome
Would be so cool to see this engine in an RC warbird plane or a scale drag car
Worlds most gentle cam install
Like to see it on the dyno.
Do you check ring gaps before installing? Just curious how consistent they are
I think buying this engine in the second stock round is a wiser idea for most of us to get issues sorted
