I heard humidity can have a significant impact on aerodynamic drag with roof rails and it looks cloudy that day, so my 1.8t Avant was at a disadvantage!
I always told people that the 3.0 ain't no hoe. NA with good torque will always win out the hole. Stock turbo 1.8t has top end power, but that's more useful in highway pulls doing over 100mph, not 1/4 or 1/8 runs. Great video guys.
Actually it seemed like it was at the top end that I had the advantage. Barry was getting off the line way better than me and I didn’t start pulling on him much until top of 2nd gear and on. I was consistently 5mph faster at the end of the run too.
@@booneylander great observation. I don't take my 3.0 to redline often. But, when I do, I'm always surprised how well it breathes up top. It would be a mean platform to turbo, but......you know lol. I just enjoy it NA for now.
@@smrsocmoneyracing2552 I think bang for buck a 2.7T swap is easier than turboing the 3.0, but the heads and cams on the 3.0 flow way better, and the extra cam adjustability helps a lot too. The 2.7 turbo manifolds do bolt right up the the 3.0 though……………… stay tuned to the channel ;)
@@booneylander yeah it's amazing how easy the 2.7t swap is into the 3.0. That's likely the route I'll go. But, if I turbo the 3.0, for whatever reason, I'd do a single turbo, either remote or where the air box sits. God stuff man. I'll definitely stay tuned.
That wild. My first time at the track in my full bolt on stock turbo fwd b5 manual passat I pulled off a 14.7. 600’ above sea level. You guys at elevation. Or does the Quattro slow it down that much. I do have a front mount intercooler, forge wastegate actuator, and performance clutch with single mass flywheel. Those mods might make more of a difference than I thought.
Nah we are at ~200ft, no elevation really. Quattro definitely adds a lot of weight and drag. B6s seem to be quite a bit heavier than B5s too to begin with.
The 2.7T is the big dog for sure, but the 1.8T has lots of potential. You could do something like a GT28RS and be WAYYY faster than the cars in this video.
wondering if the guy in the stage was saying 'sacrament' fast car, or sacrament slow car . lol. I need to go too, last time I did 14.4 with my B7 avant stage 2. Since then Ive added a lwf with the rs4 disc and meth kit. I wish flat 14...
I was just telling the boys today how great it sounds, since I was out in the snow ripping donuts. It’s got custom 2.5” catless downpipes, that merge just after the transmission brace, and then 3” cat, 3” resonator, and a 3” magnaflow muffler. We’ve got a bunch of videos about it on the channel here including building the exhaust. Go check out the playlist!
@@PBGarage indeed. I have a 2001 B5 1.8T while I've never been on an actual strip, my GPS said low 14s if I remember correctly. Awesome to see actual numbers though from a real timing system.
My 3.0 lifts up hard asf and takes off like a rocket I love the top end the torque and the hp it’s so powerful 💪🏽😂 but I’m not stock I’m just sitting at about 300 hp that’s it no speed limiter either so I can max out my dash 🤧
Were you doing any burnouts at all? Nothing crazy of course but it definitely made a difference for in my experience. Me 3.0 avant no mods vs my buddy 1.8t stage 2 avant were running low 15s at cayuga. He even pulled out his passenger headlight to get more air to his intake and I was short shifting around 5000 5500 in the belief that the 3.0 was falling on its face after that. I plan to go back this year and push it to redline to see if I can beat my time.
No burnouts, the surface was decently sticky so we weren’t losing traction at all. I was shifting the 3.0 at redline, I seemed to make to most ground up on the 1.8t above 5500rpm.
Me too. Especially when you consider the flywheel and pressure plate sat out in the rain a while and were all rusted up before I put them in the car. Check it: ua-cam.com/video/rcln3scW0AY/v-deo.html
