I've heard of butter churning songs & tried to find them. My son and I play music for civil war re-enactment and try to connect students to their heritage, and in our tent especially their musical heritage. Few butter churning songs were written down. Thanks so much for this song, and God bless you and your grandmother for preserving this piece of our heritage.
Okay I know I heard this song on a TikTok but now I can’t find the video. So glad I found it on here. It just makes me so happy. Thank you for sharing.
There was a series of books called the Foxfire books, a best-effort to preserve the self-sufficient folkways of rural America, esp the Appalchian area.
Love it.... Was talking with my friend's Mama from SC... who churned on a farm and was telling me about this song and sang it for me. So I had to look it up and here was this great example of Come Butter Come. Thank you.
Thank you for sharing her song with us! Hard to believe that was recorded 48 years ago and sounds as if it was recorded just recently. I enjoyed her singing.
Mountain music usa were recorded on records long long ago. Then when tape recorders were made in 1950 families recorded messages to distant older family (like my grandparents siblings and cousin families), theyd mail it, circulate it, then someone would record a reply n send back to my grans. That was original messages. Phone calls were too expensive. Today we have phones, vm, email, audio text messages, and face chats on phone, plus sns videos and yt vlogs
Hey Stacey, my brother; it seems we've crossed a path or two every now and again. I'm a Miller/Nifong but we had a lot in common with the Thomas' and the Watsons. Hope to learn more about you soon. Later.

...if anyone is interested.
Its a crying shame that these old folk tunes seem to be going the way of the old mountain living. Thanks for sharing Stacy.

Is there any chance you could post the lyrics? I can't quite make out all the words and would love to share this with children. Thanks.
