- Today we are testing a 50cc GY6 Performance Ignition (cdi box & coil & plug wire) and if it is worth it? You can be the judge. In our case, yeah we needed it. our scooter has a lot of miles and this was maintenance that needed to be done. For $11 its a good deal, all of the parts worked and made the scooter run more smooth.

I bought the complete kit from j and j for 99.00 and the carburetor didn’t run right so l bought a carburetor from Amazon. After installing the carburetor and the CDI box, spark plug and coil. ( looked just like yours). It runs at least 15 mph faster. Very happy.

Hard to believe you pick up 15mph. Unless something was really bad from the beginning
The Chinese bikes have hugely retarded timing and very low peak RPM so they can run on on very low quality fuel, these CDI's advance the timing to take advantage of better higher octane fuel and remove any top speed limiters. @@cafemotorsports
THANKS FOR THE KNOWLEDGE, MY 50CC CDI WENT OUT ON ME. I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT IT WAS. IT MUST HAVE COME LOOSE WHEN I WAS DRIVING BECAUSE I HEARD SOMETHING DRAGGING AND THEN MY SCOOTER CUT OFF. I LOOKED UNDER THE SCOOTER AND SAW THE CDI HANGING. TIME TO CHANGE IT OUT. ✌️👍🏻
This may be slightly older video but i've been watching some of your videos and i think they are fantastic! i am currently adjusting and tuning and messing around with my Yamaha BWS 1996 (sold as Zuma in the states) 😃 and i find your videos very helpful!

I have bought a couple of cdi boxs both oem and high performance but when I install them my scooter won't start. Any ideas?

Hey! Thanks for the kind words. A heads up on that kit tho.. it ended up wearing out pretty quickly. We had to switch back to the stock stuff. It did run well with it. But it stopped working for some reason after about a month
I bought the same one off Amazon. Blew a fuse. Didn't work on my Kymco. Said it was DC. I put the stock one back on until I find one that works.
I put on a blue racing cdi on my 125cc gy6 atv and it made a huge difference in acceleration and the engine revs higher

Yes you could definitely see the difference especially if you can get higher RPM out of the engine the engine won't rev over twelve thousand with no problem get a performance camshaft and a performance cylinder head with bigger valves

got the same kit and put it on my 50cc +bbk 88cc Roketa, Same results you got, runs good with no issues also but not really seeing much in performance, but alot of ppl say they die out after a few hundred miles. goin 250mi so far so good.

@@throttle_therapy my only struggle right now is figuring out the right weights for the CVT. im still on the break in period on the BBK so i cant go WOT, but i had a 82cc bbk on it before and was only getting 42mph max with the 8oz dr pulley's, the 7oz, 8oz, and 9oz all gave me about 42mph top speed with slightly different ranges of RPM while accelerating. havent found the secret sauce to get this thing to hit 45+ yet but soon hopefully

@@NotThePulla I own a 70s moped (piaggio bravo) and bought a polini variator and love it. Do you know about contra springs and know about mixing up the rollers? You can even switch to sliders for more performance. The key is checking for the wear on the ramp plate to get to the very top as possible (showing the RPMs have increased) or if you're a conservative person that you want to stay in lower rpms like me.
@@JaredD Yep ive actually mixed yellow/red springs for my clutch to try and get it about 1750rpm grab point, and then also i have a mix right now of 7g dr pulley sliders and 8g sliders to make for 7.5g but that day it started raining and i didnt want to keep top speed testing lol, ill take a run to the mailbox today with it and see how she likes the lighter sliders

It has nothing to do with this video but I bought a upgraded jet carb and broke down twice. $25 for carb and $70 to repair so it broke down again,150 for towing, and 50 to install.
I need to get one of these to get groceries!

Absolutely not worth it. As a 50cc displacement, you’re only going to get so much power. Keeping it well tuned will be ideal for performance. The only true mod that will get you significant power increases is a big bore kit. The other stuff (roller weights, CDI, carburetor, etc) will not make much difference (maybe 3 or 4 mph). At the end of the day, you’re still depending on a 50cc displacement engine.
Not sure I'm following your logic. If I had a scooter that topped out at 25mph, and could buy a carb and roller weights for ~$50 that have me 4 more mph, that's over 15% improvement in top speed.

@@jacobzurawski yes, you are correct-100%. I guess what I’m trying to say is for ME, personally, 3-4mph is not worth the effort. However, if it’s satisfactory for you, then I say go for it! I love mopeds. I think they are an economical and fun way to get around for basic transportation or just some fun bouncing around the neighborhood.
