- Today we'll be exploring the Model:Cycles and Model:Samples. We'll take a deeper look at sequencing an external iOS app with the Model:Samples, some sound design tips on the Model:Cycles, what advantages these 2 machines have over our other devices, as well as answering your questions! Then we'll jam on the 2 machines and see where it takes us!

To summarize: Model:Cycles would benefit from second LFO per Track, and 303-style slide.
Also, Model:Analog would be appreciated by many.
Up!
+1
Model cycles would benefit from new sound engines too. They have so many to pull from, from the monomachine to the syntakt.
If they want it to be strictly fm based, I still think there are engines they’ve made in the past that they could use as a basis (I don’t think there’s a hardware reason all of the sound engines need to be fm based though, I know that’s the marketing and the focus of the device but some of the syntakt’s non fm digital engines would definitely benefit the syntakt and make it feel like a somewhat fully featured groove box.
What a randomness! I’m heading to CanJam SoCal 2023 on Saturday, needed a non copyright track to demo all the headphone systems I’ll cover. Then I decided late last night, heck with it, for the very first time I’ll publish my own track I did on my Model:Cycles to all streaming platforms. Finally got onboard with this Distrokid thing and published it, it’s already on Apple Music with the title track “Random Precision Loop One”. Was listening to the UA-cam publish (ua-cam.com/video/Gh_nfcxBM8k/v-deo.htmlsi=uayxOyUBk1D_Aamr) and found this video from you guys. Shine on ☀️ please do this more often 👍 Ps. Elektron Music Machines is based in my hometown Gothenburg, I’m based in Irvine CA
Right Elektron, don't be afraid to update the firmware of those 2 fantastic machines that definitely deserve some new and fun stuff for us to play with. The choice is yours so choose wisely!
Hey Elektron, listen to the community and bring some new firmware update!
And Digitone 😛
Hell, all I’ve wanted is a dedicated attack envelope on the Cycles so I can use the LFO for something else. Seems like this line is dead though. It’s been almost 3 years since the last firmware update. Shame.
Really liked these devices but they never got any firmware updates / new features.
Sounds like you didn’t like them? Why would they need updates or new features?
Yes ! Agree 100%
what's wrong with them?
@@Kaje05 because firmware updates are mandatory now in the groove box space if you want to compete.
Im not saying that we are missing stuff, but we could have more things to play with. See the others comments bellow.
I would love to see a 2nd LFO also USB audio to multitrack into DAW and would love a randomisation feature for sounds otherwise I love this kit
Oh I'd love a sound randomizer!
USB multitrack pleaaase
@@adriangarcia8226check out Underbridge. It’s a third party software that lets you bounce all of the tracks from a model samples/cycles, overbridge should have this. There might be a hardware limitation as to why overbridge can’t record 6 tracks at the same time on the model: boxes, I’m not sure, but the way underbridge does it, it just records each track automatically and sequentially so they all line up in your DAW without manually aligning the transients, which is I feel the bare minimum of what elektron should do.
model:Cycles is an absolute perfect groovebox. people are just sleeping so hard on it. they dont realize it
If they add a good 2osc machine (sine(mix)noise) you could have 6 beringher Edge in One machine
The hack to get portamento on the Models is:
1. Program your melody.
2. For every note you want Porto, add an LFO lock with Wav set to ENV and Dst set to PTCH.
3. I set my the Mult speed for each note/lock to x1k, then use LFO speed knob to fine tune. But that will dependant on tempo/note density.
4. So - the depth of every note depends on the previous note. Each semi-tone = 0.5, if the previous note is higher, then set the depth to positive, if the previous note is lower, set it to negative.
Eg, if notes are E-6, D-6, E-6, B-5, the the depth on D would be 1, on E would be -1 and on B would be 2.5 and back to 1st note E would be -2.5.
I hope that makes sense :)
Btw - reducing chance on the notes will put it all out of wack, but you can try it, and put the LFO speed to negative, and get some weird Kotoesque pitch bends.
BTW - this is for portamento, not glide. For glide you’d need to put the ENV on the 1st note and the depth would depend on the following note’s pitch AND you’d need to lock the LFO speed for each note depending how far away it is in time 🤯 Or, keep asking for an update :)
keyboard scale mode would be very appreciated!
also simple stuff like saving muted tracks per pattern instead of global mute.
Pleeeeeeeeease update the rytm!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
something that would be really nice as an update would be quantized scale for them like the syntakt and subsequent takt boxes
At 54:58 is NSFW. "Trig Nudge" just isn't something you talk about in polite society. 🤣
Dedicated attack envelope so we can use the only LFO for something else, PLEASE!
I really appreciate this video… I have both machines as well. If there was one thing I would add to the m:c would be attack. I know the LFO does it, but it’s not a fun move. But, yeah. Thanks again… I have been minting music NFTs on Tezos using both machines. So much dang fun…
I these a very under rated whips…they hit so hard
Build it, take it to chaos and randomness, then bring it back to order. That is what this "Random Precision Loop" on Elektron Model:Cycles is about. I made this video tutorial to showcase the amazing features of this machine:. Here is the original performance of the track I mentioned in my previous post that I published to all streaming platforms last night: ua-cam.com/video/XZ530kSn-tU/v-deo.htmlsi=1Et7F2iZyB4FH1Yr
I gotta admit I'm a bit disappointed Model:Madness isn't the actual name of an elektron product
A loud hum all the way through this.. very poor Audio quality in general.
I really wish you guys would do a new handle that won't explode.. you did promise it..
just getting a powerbank to use with them works so well and is so cheap though.
This is dope as hell. I picked up a Model Cycles a couple weeks back. I love it. Definitely would be game for a second LFO on a Track if that ever comes in an update.
A tip 4 the Models boxes, switch off all volume/level control assignment on velocity... & set up velocity properly to control panning. Parameter lock the volume/dist instead of needing the velocity for the job... Use velocity for panning steps & trigs. I reckon Elektron should include a simple S&H random modulation generator in all, or any of their 2nd gen devices they can squeeze that feature into... On future OS revision? It wouldnt need to be as taxing on the CPU processing for the chips in them, as another full Elektron style LFO for including... cause it would be only needing S&H speeds of 1/1 - 1/64th note divisions & bpm synchronised within those speed divisions... To make it a handy extra random modulation generator? They wouldn't need to bother with it needing the multi rates of the usual lfo's, so it would be easier to implement & the algorithm wouldn't be taxing on the processors in them too???
I think it'd be great if it'd be possible to save Trigs and Pads straight to Locks folder, but I mean any new features would be cool :D
This was amazing. Thank you guys so much! can I apply that same workflow for swing to the OT? I'm going to get the samples regardless to take around with me.
That was so fun! Thanks you two

Great video!!🎉
What, is this ?
❤❤❤
Model Samples is magic!
