If we have leaves, mushrooms etc - I think its important to make sure there's "larger" elements in the box like stumps or logs if trying to keep in the forest narrative - its very hard to fill in a larger base like 80-100mm with little bits.
It's a cool concept, but it's oddly specific. I wouldn't mind a generic base in the box kit, with boulders, tufts, debris, and a few bags of "base ready" like supplies such as Geek Gaming Scenics stuff in a slightly larger box. And have the option for smaller themed boxes like 'mushrooms and over growth" "hellscape" "industrial" "Sci fi" to pick up as addons
Not surprisingly I'm aaaaaalllllll about bases :) Definitely subscribed to alerts for this kickstarter. The fungus and ferns look ace. Maybe a selection of forest critters, carnivorous plants and icicles would be welcome.
How about a couple of little stamps to add foot prints, horses hoof prints etc into the soft basing materials- there is lots of mud and snow but you never see foot prints. Perhaps tire tracks or similar as well?
In addition to the natural stuff I would like to see larger items for the pants/shrooms to grow out of. Building ruins, decaying logs, rocks. Not all of us have access to the great outdoors for supplies. Rock outcrops designed to hold water effects would be a holy grail for me. Save all the trouble of having to tape off and worry about the edges being perfect. A box with that and and assortment of plants/shrooms foliage would be an automatic buy for me.
We have spoken about this a lot, Kenny, one of our key ideas was to try and include natural greenery which can be painted and modelled as both underwater or on land, perhaps with colours/style to differentiate. Don't worry, the idea of a set with pirate bits is too cool for us to not want to go deep on everything ocean-y at some point in the future :)
Drool. They're not the most popular faction, but I think we could really make them stand out, and it'd send me on a bit of a mission to find a go-to bronze... I have a gold and a silver, so I should really do some research. Great suggestion!
We've got tonnes of plans for the future if this one goes well, and a lot more of details (e.g. snakes) which work in any setting, but still add character.
I do something like this with my 4 Nurgle Army! all the bases are bulkhead with the Garden of Nurgle encroaching on them! Mushrooms slime and fungal growths growing into and out of the metal!
Great product 👍 maybe you could do some half eaten / decaying mushrooms . Also for urban areas , old cans / bottles and rusted old metal pieces . Was it just me or is anyone else hungry after watching that !!!??? I have a craving for bacon and mushroom sandwich 🤣🤣🤣
The QUBE is awesome guys! Sign up to be notified! I love how passionate you are about this stuff Byron! I'd listen to a full hour of TED talks on basing done by yourself ha!
Love the idea of the box and have been looking for something like this. Other ideas for pieces - rune marked tiles/stones, gemstones, small wildlife, broken branches, stumps, maybe food items, bones, animal skulls, shells.
You’re a loon m8ty, all that planning and you never have the time we do not want you to pass out from an overdose of basing, keep up the good work Byron and team love the vids you put out to the community.
Love the forest stuff, makes me want to rebase all my Sylvaneth. I'm curious if there'll be anything for more aquatic themed bases? Maybe some corral, crustaceans, or some collapsed columns and sunken treasure type things.
So I regularly check KS for this in case I missed it ( Turned on notifications, but I am paranoid like that). I'd like to see lots of plants in it, especially underwater plants, which are pretty hard to find (unless you have a 3d printer)
We're still fine-tuning, thanks for your dedication, the KS is going to be super-diverse, and you should have a veritable garden of options at your fingertips, once we're done :)
Fantastic idea and as always the product and the packaging look top notch, however I feel this would gain far more traction if available as STL files, I can't begin to imagine what the postage costs would be when presented in the current style, amazing though it looks.
Being a figure painter It is hard to make fern branches of all different sizes Great idea Hope you well just don’t forget love to see all different scales even 1/9 scale
Hey dude, we spoke about scale a lot, and that's one of the reasons for us including multiple sizes of popular components, it's going to be aimed at 32/35mm... but the natural parts should present a lot of opportunities for using at various scales :)
I love the idea behind these boxes. To pick setting such as forest floor, desert plains or urban debris sounds great. But. Realistically, how much is that nice box (and don't get me wrong, it's a lovely box) adding on to the price, when I could be buying more modelling stuff. I'll probably pick one up to support you, but I don't see it as a thing someone new to the hobby will pick up.
Thanks for the thoughts, dude! it's definitely a little bit of a different approach to the product, especially by our industries' standards... But we're happy to try something new! Ideally we'd like to make a product which comes in packaging which is itself useful, and gets used forever (bits box, deck box, dice box, etc). The parts will be available separately after the campaign, if people want to refill, or just buy more :) Thanks again!
Thanks bud, it's a valid point, think of the box as something you'll use forever, though, not throw away! It holds trading cards perfectly, bits, tokens, dice, whatever. We realise that's not how people tend to do things in our industry, but we're never against trying something new!
This is probably just me but I would like more stuff in a normal box them a cool box I have had the same opinion about your brushes and I think you should do the winsor and Newton style of brush box that's very similar to a Harry potter ollivander wand box (I'm sorry I'm very drunk)
Byron, wow looks good again, will there be different sets for different terrain features - also the box looks really sweet I hope it does not ask too much cost to production?
Hey dude, thanks! There will be yeah, plans is for blocks of 3 per release (Ancient Ruins, Graveyard, Jungle for first block). We're making the box something people will use forever, not throw away, and become a part of their hobby desk, we're passionate about good materials that last forever. The contents will be available separately in the future, but all together with the box will present a bit of a bargain :)
Well, I'm going to paint it to look like earth, I imagine them in a very soft, damp (deep brown) earth with lots of mushrooms growing... You could absolutely use a mix that looks like build up leaves etc instead though, it could look amazing. (See Andy Wardle's Sylvaneth)
Not planning to, currently. The tides of low quality printed parts I see on a daily basis in this hobby really don't fit with our plans for the product's aesthetic and feel. Obviously not suggesting that there aren't people out there who print stuff perfectly and beautifully, but we have strong opinions about how pretty we want our work to be :D
Byron, silly question - have you tried mixing the dirty down rust etc together with either moss or verdigris? I know it's an odd question, but it just piqued my interest

"What's in the box?" There is Gom Jabbar at my neck isn't it?
👀👀
The packaging alone is worth a bit of drooling, like it!
Thanks buddy, we don't want people throwing it away, ever! It should outlast some of your minis :D

Oh you wait, Sir! :D Thanks for the love :)
ooooh boy I can't wait for next time with the big flappy fella! such a cool conversion! Also super keen to see how these forest floor bases turn out!
Thanks man, you don't have to wait long👀

We'll take you awake or asleep, dude :)

Not a bad idea, dude, we have something close, but it's a more organic equivalent

Why did you sand some of the mushrooms before using them? Was it to remove mould lines or to give texture?
Mould lines :) always worth a quick once-over!
where are the sanding sponges from?
Here you go, buddy :) elementgames.co.uk/search?q=sanding+sponge
