I have been fortunate to spend a few days with a Lamborghini Huracan, a Ferrari 458, and a Porsche 911. The 911 is what I long for. Porsche has simply perfected the automobile.
Porsche are kings of playing the realtive performance game, so many versions with a little more power and options. They're all to powerful to ring out on the road, sonit becomes a pissing contest between owners. The 981S/gts has all the NA sound and thrills at a usable power level, thats a fun sports/gt car.
Ya, I don't think the new cars are worth it. I personally want a base 996 that I can modify or base 997. Or the s as you've said, if I want more options. Otherwise, the new cars are WAY too fast. The base model 911 right now is still a super car. It's insanely fast.
Is it worth it? Everyone will answer this differently depending on their own personal situation. In my opinion Porsche has lost their mind and will charge whatever they can get away with. I'd have just as much fun if not more driving 35K Miata and not carry the Porsche baggage with me wherever I go.
Even at the “entry” level, my 2018 Carrera T, with a few premium options and carbon buckets had an MSRP of $116k. If I bought similar spec today it is around $145k, and this is the only manual option! I’m good, no need to “upgrade.” Something I’ve noticed since joining the Pcar crowd, there are a lot of owners that never owned a sports car before they bought a Porsche. They sometimes have different expectations of what a sports car should deliver in terms of luxury, and I think this is what has driven the bloat in the brand. Porsche has focused a lot on increasing brand recognition as a luxury product, and they are catering to the demo that considers the brand image over the sports car experience. I don’t think Porsche has lost the sports car focus, but they are experiencing bloat to cater to the Gucci demo.
That's a good take. Is it worth it? Perhaps relatively, if you really had that much money to burn on a DD as opposed to a truly special car, which some do obliviously, but I agree with you that I'd have as much fin in the latest MX5/Miata also.
I agree. I had a 992.1 C2S for a short while before selling it for a C8 Z06. I felt the 911 was way too overpriced for the experience. I personally feel that modern 911s are overrated. I loved my 997.1 C4 I had previously. I actually just bought a 2002 996.2 C4S yesterday and I already adore it. The older 911s are still special. The newer cars to me are just fast VWs.
@@joeracer302 In my view, they most definitely have lost their sports car focus. The 992 is the largest and heaviest 911 series ever produced and mated to a taxi cab like interior. I've owned more the 20 Porsche sports cars, have taken part in multiple seasons of Cup - my view is Porsche have lost their direction and are making the car worlds equivalent of bloat ware - these are mainstream production line cars, thats it - nothing special about them unless you have a RS badge on the back.
@@mattabell3657 Nailed it to a large degree, the NA Porsche sports cars are fantastic all round experiences. Some are exceptional e.g. Spyder RS or any RS for that matter.
I don't know why but there is something magnetic in these tractor-like turbo engines. They are more subdued and it's technically the same power as the GT3 but so much faster thanks to torque.
Not necessarily. The turbo engine cars are easier for inexperienced drivers to drive fast because they have a wide power band. Normally aspirated cars can be driven just as fast if the driver has the experience and discipline to keep the RPMs in the optimum range.
Car looks good. Surely there wouldn't be many GTS Cabriolet buyers. You would think most people would be happy with a simple high spec normal Cabriolet Base or S. Also insane that you still don't get full leather as standard at this price point. The margins Porsches get must be huge..
Love the car, but I think it's just too fast to enjoy on the street. Gotta go to very illegal speeds to push the car. By the time you start to hear the engine, it's time to shift. Agree with Zygrene that i would miss the sound of the NA flat six. This car would be amazing fun on a track, where you could actually use most of that power.
I think it's worth it, but I think most people only need the base car, or an older, slower car. Porsche now has the same horsepower in the base model as they did in the high end models from years ago. I actually think a modified base 996 is better now. I don't want that much horsepower. You can't go fast anyway, so it's fun to actually have a chance to push the pedal down, rather than instantly hit jail speeds.
Now imagine the latest GTS with the hybrid system plus bigger engine/turbo. Regarding the gauge visibility, that’s probably why GM made a squircle in the C8
I love the GTS's though, for 992.1 I would go S or even base (and tune a little) since they have a similar twin turbo flat 6 set up. Especially seeing as this has an all-black interior The 992.2 on the other hand has an engine set up that can't be emulated by tuning, which I find interesting.
It’s become pretty clear that Porsche are milking it for everything they can get away with. The price increases since covid have been huge. I suspect I’ve bought my last new one late last year. Getting off that train now
Almost the same sticker price as a new GT3, except you can't buy a new GT3. You'll only get a GT3 allocation after you've bought several other Porsches.
Not necessarily true. You get higher priority if you have a highly optioned bill. Sometimes it also comes down to who is willing to pay additional markup and how much.
@@joeracer302 I would consider a tune in the future for the C2S if I make a firm decision to keep it and not get the GT3 (I wouldn't want to do anything warranty wise or to a car someone else would purchase). I am a bit underwhelmed at times with the acceleration of the C2S (at times the car feels like it has strong acceleration and other times it does not). Notably, I'm often surprised to see how slowly the turbo boost starts to kick in on the gauge, so perhaps that might be helped by a tune.
Harry's garage spent less on his 650s mclaren he just bought didn't he? I know people hate mclaren because they're weird and have bad taste but the 650s seems like a way way way better deal.
Can never compare any GTS or even any non GT 911 with a GT car. NA mezger inspired engine is so different in character.. maybe performance is similar but I don’t think that is really the point anymore. Everything is fast
You can literally buy ferraris and lambos. There's no way I'm spending that over a ferrari v12, or 458(stretch) or any super car.. I know the 911 is basically a super car but still.... I'll take a ferrari ff first even.
Why doesn't Porsche make a sports car above the 911 that has two seats? For under half a million?. Missed opportunity to compete with ferrari. Mean to shareholders.
As a daily usable sporting car, that looks... really, really nice. It seems to make a little more sense than some of the GT products. The only possible gripe might be that it's niche would be a DD, and in my world I wonder if having that much performance that you simply cannot use would be frustrating, so without knowing exactly what options you would lose going to the S, maybe that would be a better deal. A car like that only needs 400bhp imo, and this one sounds like it's probably 500bhp.
the sound or lack thereof from these modern turbo 911's is so disappointing. As I watch this video, I don't feel engaged in the car due to lack of that warm howl of older Porsches. It just has that fake growl at the top end. I know the power is a step above with the turbos but it just doesn't ignite the fire. I'd give up power any day if it means naturally aspirated and a sweet pure sound
Rule 1 of Porsche world, never buy a 911 Cabriolet. The 3.0L twin turbo is just a numbing experience for a sports car, good for cruiser, bad for sports car.
No 911 is"either 8 it" IMHO but we'll pay the price to satisfy our childhood dreams. If we can. YES a911 "is the best handling surgical" but only marginally do 6. This butt 4x better than a VW Golf R at a quarter the MSRP... In real world driving

Very accurate review of GTS. Excellent family hauler, if you hate 2 of the four people in your family 😁
Amazing car, but Porsche prices have gotten completely out of hand, especially with the 992
The only question to ponder in Porsche… .
Is the price justified?

Maybe if it was in manual... especially if the 992.2 GTS and newer will no longer offer it

If you’re concerned with acceleration get a Softronic tune and DSC, you’ll be faster on the street than a GT3.
