This is my greatest baseball memory. I was 14 years old. I had watched the Braves everyday on TBS with my dad since 1981. All the bad years. As this inning started my dad joked "They are gonna have a spectacular comeback to win this series." I rolled my eyes and then watched these moments with my dad as he was proven right before my eyes.. This will always be a precious memory to me.
This is my greatest baseball memory also. I'm a Braves fan and I will never forget the excitement I felt that night.
My dad had the exact opposite reaction, and had everyone, himself included, go to bed before this inning. He did not have any kind of faith whatsoever.

Francisco Cabrera. A guy who will never be in the Hall Of Fame and only had 10 at-bats the entire 1992 season, but will always be remembered for having one of the biggest hits in Braves history.
RUN SID! RUN! That was the most replayed sports highlight for the next few years. Sid was LITERALLY the slowest man in baseball but he was like lightning that night. Ok, maybe not lightning but he was fast enough. Watching this after what the Braves did this year (2021) makes me remember why I love baseball and especially the Braves so much.

One of the best games as a Braves fan next to the 1995 and 2021 World Series clinchers. Watching games like this makes you remember where you were for the rest of your life.
I was in my frat house with a good friend from Alpharetta, and it was pure joy. The happiness is simply beyond words.
I've been a Braves fan since the 70's and this moment in team history still gives me goosebumps more so when you watch it with Skip Caray making the call.

I grew up in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Went to many games in that old stadium, mostly watching some really bad teams. But I went to all those games with my Dad, who helped me fall in love with baseball and with the Braves. In our living room, it was me, my Dad, my Mom, and my sister. The latter two couldn't care less about baseball but even they were into this. I was 14 I think. As Bream is rounding 3rd, Dad's screaming "C'mon you slowpoke!" And I jumped off the couch after Bream was safe (and he WAS safe) and leapt into a huge hug with my Dad. He passed away and I miss the hell out of him.
Side note: the only thing this video is missing is Skip Caray's masterful call. It's not just the final play but the entire half inning - just a masterful call.
1992 was a great year for sports. This win by the Braves, Alabama’s amazing basketball season and of course the football team winning the natty....I grew up in Gadsden. Went to many games with my dad as well in this stadium...
This is about the time the transplants started to take root. Drabek was tough but when TP got that double, I got to thinking….the Lind error and ran and got my cap and did the left shark, then right, chopped for Sid, then upside down (v for victory) for Hunter and the pop out felt like air was let out. That celebration, but I think that hurt Sid. Then getting my radio and listening to Skip. I was trying to get my wits back about me, telling my mother Skip yelled Braves win 5 times.
It's nice that MLB is actually putting stuff like this on their channel.

Man you can see Sid’s knees screaming at him while he sprinted. Every land of the left foot causing a bigger limp. He wasn’t even to the third base bag when the ball was fielded. He dug deep, grimaced through his sore knees, at the end of a long season, and gutted out the biggest run of his career. Amazing moment.

An amazing moment. Little-used Francisco Cabrera and Sid Bream, the game's slowest base runner after multiple knee surgeries over the seasons. Cabrera, with 11 Plate Appearances all of 1992 in "The Show", becomes an Atlanta folk-hero in an instant.

When the Braves made the World Series against the Cleveland Indians, ole President Carter was wearing a neutral Major League Baseball jacket and flashing any Braves gear. He was too diplomatic and should have wore a braves jacket.

@Draped Up& Dripped How true! I didn't like him when he was a Cardinal. I loved him when he became a Brave. They all got on his back and he took them from worst to first in '91.
Unfortunately Terry was never on a world championship team. He played in five World Series, two with St. Louis and three with Atlanta. A great player and person, he deserved the NL MVP in 1991.

He must have found another gear because it looked like he was rounding 3rd when Bonds got to it. If the throw wasnt off to the side, Bream would have been out.
I remember watching this game and going crazy when the Braves won. Bream ran very well after 5 knee operations, after seeing this again I believe Belinda was squeezed by umpire Marsh think that's when Pirates walked Bream.

I met David Justice at a VIP floor of a hospital dinner and he talked to me and a friend at length about how it felt to watch Sid bream running home. Haha. Great experience
What great memories!! I was eleven years old but I still remember this game so vividly. I actually had to go to bed in the 8th inning because of school the next day (I remember Doug Drabek pitching an absolute gem and that the Braves just couldn't seem to get to him so we felt like the Pirates were probably going to win.) so I missed seeing it live. But we taped the remainder of the game on my VHS tape so my dad and I watched it early the next morning and I couldn't BELIEVE what happened in the 9th inning. Just legendary stuff! As much as I loved the '95 Braves team that won the championship, the '91 and '92 teams will always hold a special place in my heart. The '91 team literally came out of NOWHERE and the '92 team pulled off a comeback we'll always cherish.
This is hands down my favorite moment in Braves' baseball. The memories it brings back of a 9 year old kid watching with his dad are priceless.

I was driving home on I-285 listening to the game on WSB. I went from clenching the wheel in a death grip to nearly wrecking out when Cabrera hit that line drive. Still my favourite Braves moment ever.

Kind of funny tho, Belinda ended up signing with the Braves sometime after the Rockies released him in July of 2000 (and putting up a 7+ ERA) but they (they, meaning the Braves) were also playing in Turner Field by then too then the Braves ended up releasing him on September 12th of 2000 which ultimately ended his baseball career.
I felt bad for him but luckily this wasn’t 2017 cause social media would have blasted him so bad.

Here's an interesting fact: The Braves won both the 1995 and 2021 World Series with 6th game shutouts.

I was 11 years old when this happened and we were living in a camper BUT, it had a tv. And I vividly remember this as if it were yesterday. My father jumping onto the tiny couch and the whole trailer shaking and the dog getting so scared. Such a great moment that I will never forget. Go Braves!
Man, I love that second replay where Nixon and Justice are telling him to slide. So many “baseball” things in that shot, the home plate ump, King’s reaction at 3rd, etc. So much to look at and appreciate!

Well, to be fair, they did play some meaningful games in 1997. They nearly came from out of nowhere and won their division that year.
Wish you were right. In fact, Houston won the division in 1997. The Pirates finished under .500 in 1997.

I honestly don't think Hollywood could have scripted an ending to such an important game any better. I watched it live in disbelief....still arguably the best ending to a baseball game in MLB history....and I'm not even a Braves fan!
That video quality back then... Crazy how far we have come.. One of my most vivid memories of all time.. I remember where I was ... Can almost fully recreate the room.. I fell asleep watching this game.. woke up in the ninth and rest is history.

One of the most happiest times of my life! My dad had given up on them, but I kept watching them; and when Cabrera hit that base hit to bring David and Sid home, and the voice saying, "Braves win Braves win Braves win Braves win", I went crazy! I drove to underground Atlanta in my pajamas, I didn't care. Everyone was honking their horns saying, "they did it, they did it". That was awesome!!!

I've heard Pirates fans say they wish he had just beaten them with a grand slam right there, that it would have been easier to taken than getting beat by Cabrera.
Bonds was playing deep as hell on that ball. That should have been a rocket off the wall, but Bonds was playing on the warning track. That was really surprising to me. Maybe they were playing Gant like that because he was such a strong dead-pull hitter. I don’t know. It was surprising to see Bonds that deep though.

Ron Gant could've done a lot of things. He could've gotten a hit to drive home Lonnie Smith and Pendleton in Minnesota. He could've won Game 6 in the bottom of the 9th the next year after Nixon tied it with two outs. But he did neither.
I remember this like it was yesterday. I stayed up and watched this and woke the whole house up screaming. What a memorable moment and a memorable team. I was 12 years old when this happened. Wow!! Hard to believe the time that has passed. Best Braves team to date.

I was there 16 rows behind 1st base. People were leaving earlier in the game. They had a few chances to take the lead but failed. I've never heard anything louder than inside the stadium that night! We celebrated for hours! I went to work at 8am the next morning after that! It'll be tough for something more exciting to happen!

Yeah, they routinely rolled out 3-4 starters that would have been the ace of pretty much any other staff in the 90's. Almost every day was "win day" for the Braves.
I view the 1996 Series against the Yankees as the "one that got away". The Braves opened with a 2 games to nothing in that one. 1991 vs the Twins was arguably the most impressive World Series of all time in terms of competitive games. 1995 they beat an extremely impressive Indians squad.

Google Andy Van Slyke's interview about Barry Bonds. He talks about how he motioned to Bonds to move over and cover the gap more, and Bonds flipped him off. Cabrera's hit went exactly where Van Slyke told Bonds to move and that extra 1-2 seconds that would have been shaved off made all the difference. Now knowing that, watch 18:08 and 18:28. Huge Braves fan here, but I can't help but feel bad for Van Slyke.

But there was one moment that was the best. Leibrandt was pitching, and Van Slyke hit a laser that thudded right into Charlie's glove. He didn't even have to move. Bam-bam.
Van Slyke hit it as hard as you can hit a ball, and was out before he could leave the batter's box. As Van Slyke slammed the bat to the ground in obvious fury, Skip Caray drawled, "Nothin' to it." Absolutely hilarious.

Van Slyke has been known to embellish some stories, and it’s known that he has great disdain for Bonds to this day. Also, Van Slyke was voted by an anonymous panel of various professional athletes as one of the “Top 10 Worst Teammates/Contemporaries To Have To Share a Locker Room/Press Conference With” in a 1995 SI piece. It was noted in a blurb that came with each athlete that Van Slyke would often try to position other players, especially fellow outfielders, even after the dugout had already sent in positioning instructions. So, take that statement with a grain of salt. Also, Van Slyke waited 20 years to make that assertion and Jim Leyland has NEVER acknowledged it.
I thought Bonds played it pretty well honestly. Cabrera was a pull hitter, and Bonds wasn’t shaded so far over that he couldn’t gather the ball timely. He just didn’t make an accurate throw.

Admittedly, I am not a huge baseball fan but I followed the Braves in the nineties and also was a fan of Tony Gwynn (Padres Hall of Fame) and Mark McGwire (Oakland/St. Louis). The ninth inning of the Pittsburgh vs Atlanta NL Championship Series was the most thrilling thing I have ever seen in a baseball game. I still get chills watching it and the call by the announcer (Sean McDonough) is epic.

Our beloved braves went on to lose to the Jays but this win here in such dramatic fashion had very much the feel of winning it all.
I get teary eyed every time i watch this. I was 14 at the time. A fan since I was a little kid. The Braves of the 80's had alot of tough years. This made being a fan worthwhile.
This gave me goosebumps. I remember that night. I was a single mom, my kids were in bed and I was watching the game. When they won I started my celebration. I'm surprised that my children slept through my yelling & screaming. Lol. Let's hope our 2018 Braves can repeat this wonderful moment.

Well it didn’t happen in 2018 but here we are 2021 WS champions again!!! Finally I was 12 yrs old during this game and 15 during their first WS i seen them win so this current championship I enjoyed so much
These guys are still my heroes 26 years later. I was a Senior in High School and had gone to bed early expecting them to lose but heard my parents hooting and hollering when we loaded the bases. Turned on my radio and listened to the game. Was jumping up and down on my bed when we won. Will never forget it. School the next morning was electric.

Context matters - the Braves had blown a 3 games to 1 lead in the series. The Pirates won Game 6 13-4. Before the game, Pat O'Brien said, "The Braves may be out of ammo."
Most teams in this situation were dead in the water. But not the Braves.
I went to game 7 and there were people down there selling tickets, they almost had to give them away nobody wanted them.
The people who attended the game had their faith rewarded!
This Mets fan remembers some playoff seats being empty and I couldn't believe it.

I remember watching on TV and seeing a lot of empty seats. This is the playoffs and they couldn't sell out? Unbelievable.
I watched this over and over and over and over, and one of the best things is always the huge guy in the pink T-shirt jumping up and down at 17:27!

The Braves broadcast was way more emotional with Skip Caray yelling "Braves Win! Braves Win! Braves Win!" when Sid was called called safe. The national broadcast was rather boring in comparison.
Team announcers can go a little extra wild on calls, compared to someone doing a national broadcast.

@@blake7871 Agreed, and the fact he's still calling games across the board in so many sports with that same level of enthusiasm makes him one of the all time bests. He has a lot of great ones, but among my favorite of his are:

The northern press doesn't care much about southern teams.I haven't seen anything on ESPN about our Braves winning two div crowns in a row.
I was born the one year the Braves won the World Series, but I sat down, went through their history, and saw just how great they were in the 90's as a team. Over half of the decade they were in the World Series. Winning more than one title would've been better, but making that many WS appearances in a decade is impressive alone.
Back when a starting pitcher actually went more than 3 innings in the postseason. Those were the days.

Watching this in 2022. This still gives chills. The emotion of this inning. Bottom of the 9th to come back and win it, doesn’t get any better than that. You can’t help but feel bad for Pittsburgh, Drabek pitched his heart out, they lost the NLCS 2 years in a row, and this happened. And Bonds would go on to San Francisco. And the Pirates would never be the same.
Exactly!! This was Bonds' last game as a Pirate. They haven't done ANYTHING since!!! Only one playoff appearance in the past 30 years. Who knew one game would change the fortunes of a franchise for decades!!!
Best sports moment of my life, period. Me and about 15 of us were in a downstairs den watching on a old school big screen TV. None of us sat down the entire 9th inning, come to think of it we didn't sit for much of the 8th either. anyway when Sid slid into home plate we all jumped so high and so forcefully we knocked the ceiling panels out with our hands and fists cheering so much. I swear my whole subdivision was hollerin' and screamin' at this moment. If you are a Braves fan and old enough to remember, it will never be better than this, never. IDC if the Braves were to win 3 World Series titles back to back to back, and as awesome as that would be, it could never equal the magic of this night.

Was Listening to the game on the Jersey Turnpike. Got off at exit 3 sat waiting for a delivery and when they won I jumped outta that truck like I had been shot. Felt like a School kid. A 26 year old kid but a Kid none the Less.
As I write this I'm now 53 and it's June 10, 2019 and the Braves Were down to the Marlins 5-1 in the 9th, They scored 4 runs which 3 came off the Bat of Ronald Acuna Jr. The Braves went on to win in 12 innings 7-6.
New faces Acuna, Riley, Albie's, Swanson Freeman Fried, Sokura and Tehran have replaced Gant, Justice, Pendleton, Bream Jones Smoltz and Glavine.....But The Excitement and the Chop lives on.
The ATL is BRAVES COUNTRY and Still America's Team.

We're the same age and I'm still a fan as well. Got a great Acuna parallel card from 2018 - have alway been a card guy - and the new park, while not as convenient as the old one, is going to make Acuna the biggest star in the game. Think Henderson with Canseco power.

The run the braves went on in the 90's. I wish they won more ws. They made watching baseball great just sit on edge of your seat great and this game was that.
This is the most exciting post season Braves game ever! Even more exciting than game 6 of the World series this year!
I was there. Will never forget it. The place went crazy. You couldn't hear each other for 30 minutes. A friend from work and her boyfriend left after the 8th, said they didn't want to watch the Braves lose and wanted to beat the traffic. I said the Braves were coming back, they should stay. On the way, they heard what was happening on the radio. When it started happening in the bottom of the 9th, you knew we were going to win, it was in the air. Everybody was chopping, chanting and praying!! I also was at the 6th game of the 95 World Series when the Braves won. That was nothing as far as excitement as this game.
The epicness of this video is indescribable...
I remember watching this as a 14 year old kid, seeing it again all these years later and those same emotions come back again ❤️
I bet I've watched this half-inning a hundred times! I remember watching it live and screamed when Cabrera's hit occurred! My wife, who was taking a bath didn't appreciate my enthusiasm very much. What a comeback!

I still get chills remembering going into the kitchen to get a drink and hearing "SID!... SID!... SID!!!" boom through the house from our old TV. I was only 5 years old, but I'll never forget it. One of my oldest and most favorite memories. My family from Pittsburgh were... very quiet at Thanksgiving for years afterward. 🤭

I hate to be "that guy" but I was down there 12 rows back from the field, visitors on deck circle and saw it all. Cabrera got the hit and everything seemed to move in slow motion, and then the ump displays the SAFE sign... that's when the stadium SHOOK.

Yes. I can't say it was my top moment of seeing something in person. I was also at game 6 of the 1995 World Series, same stadium, but as far as sheer craziness and bedlam. This was it.

I agree with Starkill3r. You say you were there, I say, VERY nice. I didn't see the game live but I did live in a suburb of Atlanta at that time and watched the game with my dad. I am a White Sox fan and my dad is a Cubs fan, but this was one of the most awesome moments we ever saw in the game of baseball.
I only wish we had the TV down and the radio on with Skip and Pete. That call by them was so... well, I am sure you have heard it!

I'd like to point out 46 isn't 70+ and 126 isn't even 1 a game compared to some of the craziest seasons he had getting pitched around.
His 1993 season still ranks as one of the better in the last 40 years. And he didn't juice until at least after the 1998 season. And he was a 1st ballot Hall of Famer before he ever used PEDs. He should absolutely be in the Hall of Fame. He didn't cheat because he had to. He did it out of envy of the attention McGwire and Sosa got and took away from his brilliance.
Assman Blastman Nah, it was when he realized that Mark Maguire and Sammy Sosa were getting all the headlines by bulking up and doing nothing but strike out and hit Homers, while he, Barry Bonds, the greatest all around player in the game at that time, was being ignored.

I was just watching the video thinking "I miss those stadiums that weren't just for baseball." and then I saw your comment. They had a different atmosphere. So cool. They were almost like coliseums...round and trapped all the sound.
@@tony_anello Those were horrible stadia especially Atlanta Stadium. The seats were too far from the action. I prefer the old stadia or the new ones built like old ones.

I still remember this like it was yesterday. For an 11 year old boy living in Atlanta ... this was pure magic.
Can't believe this was over a quarter century ago - I was in high school then and to this day this bottom of the 9th is one of the most intense, dramatic sequences I have ever seen in any sport. And I wasn't even rooting for anybody. You could make a 2-hour feature movie out of this one half-inning.
I was nine years old. Sixth inning Atlanta had the bases loaded with nobody out. Blauser hits a bullet to King and Lemke is doubled off. That's when I went to bed. Fell asleep. Next thing I remember my dad is lifting me above his head screaming, "Braves get into World Series!"

Nobody remembers that Gant came within feet of hitting a walk off Grand Slam. As wonderful as the highlight of Bream beating that throw is.... I can't help but imagine how crazy it would have been had Gant gotten that bull up a bit more. He raked so many wall scraper line drive HR into that LF corner over the years. But it's simply more perfect this way.
I was a Braves fan back then. Watched all the games, even from the west coast and still went to work the next day. Sid Bream and Greg Olsen we’re my favorite players. I had to watch this twice because I was so in the moment even though I knew what was going to happen. Seeing Sid run across home plate was just as exciting now as it was then! What a GREAT team they were!!!

Was a sophomore in college and watched this live. 31 years later, I finally brought myself to watch it again. I hope I exercised some demons and my Bucs can get back to a World Series contenter in my lifetime.
