I arrived late to the party but the Henkaku mod really did it for me. Retro handheld emulators seem to be the rage these days, but PSP and Vita compatibility, I don’t think those are always there. In that light, Vita kind of is that amazing retro handheld now that can do both PSP and Vita in a nice looking package.
Not to mention upscaling some psp games on the vita with mods can make it look more like a ps2 or early ps3 port. Also being able to play with a second stick makes the psvita a must. Anybody that has a psp should just sell it if they are considering entering the digital games era@@KoIhara
It wasn't a huge upgrade on the PSP at all. PSP was already 6-7 years old with absolutely HUGE game library. PS Vita had nothing. PSP had it's own custom GTA, Tekken, God of War, Mortal Kombat which later got ported to PS2 and PS3.
@@choonblaze improvement in terms of hardware, the lack of library you're referring to is literally exactly what OP was talking about with sony not supporting it.
I got the vita slim and borderlands bundle back in the day. The game ran like crap but 10 year old me didnt mind cuz the idea of playing a full console game on a handheld blew me away. Still play my vita to this day
I bought the vita on day one and it's still going strong. After I put thousands of hours into the psp, it was a forgone conclusion that I'd get the vita. You're right about the ergo's being crappy. I bought a grip to correct that mishap. If there's any still in the wild, I strongly suggest buying one. Kind of changes everything for the better.
@jogabrielcosta4788 it's listed on Amazon for $6.99 i believe it's called the "Ostent" grip. It's specifically for the ps vita 1000 (OG model) However, there are grips available for the non oled slim model as well.
I use PS4 Remote Play on my PS Vita all the time... I have quite a good internet connection so it works well for me. It works particularly well for single player games. Multiplayer on some games can be tricky though. Sometimes it works great... but I think it hogs a lot of the connection used to do remote play in the first place, so single player gaming is best. Other than that, to be able to play PS Vita, PSP, PS1, PS Vita homebrew titles/ports, and emulators on the go... don't forget, both the PS Vita and PSP altogether have a number of PS2/PS3/PS4 ports... AND I can remote play my PS4?! Sheesh. Again, the PS Vita was WAY ahead of it's time!
You can remote play on your ps3 and if you have both your ps3 and ps vita jailbroken you can remote play even more games that you wouldn’t usually be able to and use the ps vita as a screen and controller and even ps move 😅
Ohhhh right! I think I had tried to do PS3 remote play but not all games were compatible... HOWEVER apparently if you are a master hacker nerd and/or have a lot of extra time, you can actually open up the game files (I can't think of the ones in particular, I think they are like .nfo or something weird, idk) and add remote play compatibility to each and every game to make them all work. There's a certain box you have to tick, as well as possibily a couple of others... It takes a lot of time though! I wish someone would just make a workaround with the CFW to allow them to all be compatible regardless! One can hope. Anyways, dude I love the PS Vita. It's such a legendary little device, huh? If only it would've got more love... it's too bad people were so obsessed with the iPhone back then... they didn't realize what they COULD have had. Nowadays, everyone hates "gaming" on a phone because it's so uncomfortable, lmao. I guess people couldn't put up with touch screen joysticks anymore! :P I'm guessing you're a big fan of the PS Vita then too, yeah? & you have a CFW PS3 as well (which is also incredible, haha)?
The emulators that run well in Retroarch for the Vita actually run quite well, so it really depends on what you are using it for. My Retroarch is stuffed with old-school games on my Vita and I crack open Retroarch daily on it.
Still got my 2nd Vita from 2013 with the 64gb memory card. I've kept it mod free and I've got a ton of games to finish still. I've had em since day 1 and you can do so much more with em modded these days. It's still the best portable around.
got a ps vota when i was 3yo as a gift from my dad, i still have it with a black display but im planning to repair it. its so underrated and it needs more fame
I bought a Vita after going into a rabbit hole when reviving my PSP. I have to say I play the Vita way more because of the emulation & it’s super comfortable. That lead me to buying a modded Switch & PS Portal lol. But the Vita is probably the handheld that I carry around most often
The PS Vita (launch edition model) is the best looking handheld from SONY just like the launch edition/all black PS3 model, and it still looks modern. I bought one used in perfect condition and the dev-kit model during the year they started releasing very limited copies of physical games for it and bought the ones I liked to support it (still missing more). I have not played any of them yet or with any of the handhelds, but whenever I turn them on from time to time I enjoy listening to the menu sounds and the music that plays in the background plus the look of the menu similar to that of the original and fast PSN store. NINTENDO would have done a much better job and with the dock if they had this handheld with the mini-HDMI included from the dev-kit model on the retail model.
The Vita games that utilized all or most of the functions are disliked today. Most don't understand the gimmick is a Huge part of the Experience. What sets it apart from other handhelds. I've owned mine since 2019 and have more than 20 games and love them all. My DSI XL, 2 3ds XL, and Anbernic handhelds are cool too. But my Vita is extraordinary and set apart . Hope Sony delivers another Banger system.
the vita needed Monster Hunter. if it had one i really think it would’ve been a more popular device. it laxked almost every ip that made the psp popular. it really deserved more.
I just got a used one with OLED screen, it's been in rough shape but definitely worth it... modded it and basically playing all the games I like especially like God of war collection, Jak and dexter.
I think you should review some of your favourite games on the vita, I personally prefer it than the switch for it's moddability, portability but the lack of l2 l3 r2 r3 buttons is the main problem I have with it
I got the PlayStation portal and it was ok like it wasn’t bad, but I really want to play PlayStation games with out WiFi so I think I’ll just grab me a Vita
I just got on also about a month ago, I want to jail break, with a emulator but alittle scared I could break it so I have been doing research on it, to get the right one congratulations to you all that got the vita also.
I hope that Sony does make another handheld and I hope that it can do the same things as the psp and ps vita like play music your own personal screen savers and can you bring back file sharing and add L2-R2 and L3-R3 and wifi no 5g just regular wifi and the ability to take ps4 and some ps5 games on the go and cross saves on the new handheld system along with it's own stand alone monster hunter
I was in China in October and bought a Vita for U$90, was a good price, here in Brazil they cost about U$200 (more expensive than a Switch). I got a Red PS Vita and I bought the Fat model, because the slim didn’t have the hall analogs and it’s prone to get drift.
My launch day Vita still runs happily, apart from dying official memory cards, battery life still decent, no dead pixels or OLED burn-in - and the community makes it a fantastic place to game!
Day one PS vita buyer, two things to say here. One, I sold my launch OLED and got the LCD, actually enjoy that model far more tbh. Two, you’re absolutely right about the Switch. I was able to get my Switch lite for around 120 in near mint condition and there’s just so many more games on that thing it makes it hard to recommend a Vita unless you’re hacking it but even then. Switch you at least get access to some popular free multiplayer games like Warframe and Fortnite 🤷🏻♂️
I bought a Japanese model for $120 back when the US models were around $150-200. I’m not sure if it’s typical for the JPN models to be cheaper, but something to look at. It can be put in English so the only quirk is that confirm is circle and cancel is x, which is the opposite on US models. I disagree that Vita and Switch are equivalent, though, because they have very different game libraries. It’s definitely a preference. $120 was more than worth it on the Vita, I’d pay up to $150.
You can actually switch the confirm and cancel keys on a modded Vita. I have the Japanese model and there's no way to tell that you're not playing a US model.
The Vita is my Favorite Handheld Ever!! I loved this thing long before Modding took off for it! With Modding the Vita is Even better!! I have 3 of them and I play all of them due to Having different games loaded up on each one. Highly recommending you wanna Mod it and play just about all the games from the 16Bit Generation? As well as Stuff like GB, GBC, GBA , SegaCD, Sega32x, A ton of old Arcade games, Ps1, PSP & PSvita Games with the inclusion of A few good N64 games like Mario64, Doom64, Mario Kart64, Pole Position64 & a few others that run well? Simply put, it's a gaming Companion with a Special Charm & A LOT of Replay-ability with all the Classics you can have on one!
I've wanted a Vita for a while, but I think the draw is those special games that are unique to the system like the Uncharted, Little Big Planet, and Gravity Rush releases. I think your observations are quite insightful, but I don't think the Vita would have held up competing against the Switch. One of the big benefits of the original Switch is the fact that you can dock it. It is a handheld AND a console in one. In this regard, I would be much more interested in something like the new Retroid Pocket 5 that is coming out later this month. It has an incredible amount of emulation potential up through Gamecube/Wii and PS2 along with a host of native Android titles. The form factor is wonderful as is the 5.5" 1080p AMOLED screen. On top of that, like the Switch, it can be docked to use it as a console. It even appears to run several Switch games via Switch emulation. If all of this wasn't appealing enough, the joysticks on the Retroid Pocket 5 are 3D hall sticks. These are significantly more sensitive and accurate than the sticks on the Switch. and shouldn't run into drift issues. For me, I'm looking forward to upscaling PS2 and Gamecube classics and even using widescreen hacks to fill that glorious 5.5" AMOLED screen with GTA 3/Vice City/San Andreas along with Ico/Shadow of the Collosus, Okami, Viewtiful Joe, Super Mario Sunshine, SSX, Bully, Silent Hill 2/3/4, Rule of Rose, Final Fantasy X, and so many other titles. The Gamecube and Wii have some outstanding titles and the PS2 has one of the greatest libraries to grace a console. Cherry-picking a best of to play on the go and then parking it in a dock when you get back home if you want?!?! This is like the Switch with even more joy. At least for an old codger like me. Anyway - that's my two cents. Informative video! Thanks for sharing and keep up the great work! Peace.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing. You are knocking thee best handheld baring none even till today(1000 model). Sure did Sony fuck it up? Yup but this thing was way ahead of its time and still in 2024 it’s excellent. I do hope they bring out a vita 3 similar to the 1000 it was so very close to being an absolute winner.
the only thing holding the VITA back as a streaming device in 2025 is the terrible flag when using remote play on PS5 (Works fine on moonlight with PC)
this is cool but still offers not much if its compared to an android phone. I have so many systems running on my phone that I can even have an emulator running inside of an emulated windows on my android. crazy times. Blows my mind that an android phone is capable of all that
i bought mine second hand with a 16gb sd memory card and persona 4 golden but instantly modded it when it came, its been with me since the last 3 months and i love it!!!
the vita's downfall wasn't because it was "too ahead of it's time" it was the proprietary memory card. the price on them, the weirdness of a phone sim card modal, and the gimmicks no one asked for (front and back touch screen). like wiping blood off your screen while playing mortal combat, if your getting your ass kicked and your screen is all bloody, needing to take your hand off the controls to wipe the blood off so you can see is just going to make it worse. had it just been a PSP with a micro SD card slot it would have sold like crazy.
Yup, large reason I went with a 3DS over Vita back in the day was the storage cards. There were eventually adapters for microSD like PSP but not for a while. But also the "ahead of the time" was somewhat true as it was more expensive to develop for and had less games in it's library than 3DS
For now, these are just rumors, like the ones mentioned on this website www.dexerto.com/tech/playstation-vita-2-in-development-according-to-reputable-leaker-2509539/
Coming form a steam deck and Xbox lover that would be a game changer do like the steam deck did in a way while you can play offline and play newer games
There is more love for the PSP, there is more customization, different cases, colors, everything is better. The PS Vita, as an old design, no much colors, psv 2000 feels cheap so, there is only one the oled 1000.
got my Miku one for $130ish cus it had a broken screen replaced it with a new oled one which ig it already had before it was broken after replacing the screen and getting the sd mod prob was like $200
Ps vita was waaaayyyyyy ahead of its time an amazing device abandoned with shitty games it had back touch and screen touch the possibilities were endless also the memory card was a dick move by Sony
you forgot about tons of games that you can still buy in PSN in 2024 ! Price is low , for example Resident Evil 2 Directors Cut only 5 dollars and its optimized great for Vita.
So many talk of seeking out a PSP... I get it. I loved my PSP, but in this day and age... Why? The Vita has everything the PSP does, plus its own hardware perks, and games. I've had to explain this to many lol People don't research I think... ;)
The vita didn't click with me in the same way rhe psp did. The build quality was better on psp. The plastic frame felt cheap on the vita. While the vita looked nice, I never really liked the system. I loved Wipeout on it though.
There are so many great android handhelds nowadays, it's very stupid to recommend old devices like switch or vita in 2024. Like even if you are into emulation, what will the weak af Vita play? Can it emulate PS2, Gamecube, Wii, Switch games upscaled like the 200-300 buck android handhelds with overpowered snapdragon chips?
Got it to play ps4.. went home from work and the ps4 was on=tv was on.. the sound was on 🤯 it was diffrent to play on vita but it is to small for my hands and no comfort play in on it. made for a child
more like...Here's Why It's Still Better Than Nintendo Switch!..............PS Vita Far waaay better, cooler, unique, more fun, better tech, six axis motion controls, front/rear touch surfaces, OLED, 3G Wifi, dual analog, better portable size, remote play with PS3 PS4 PS5 = (GOD-LIKE), better online store, better designed, better built, not big clunky & ugly, "out of this world" better system menu OS, has Japanese background menu ambient music, amazing, has waaaaaay more hard core players, better Japanese exclusive games of many different IP's, plays PS1 PS2 PSP games, & has so much more everything else that's greater than nintendo switch 100%... even PSP cooler than the switch can't wait to buy a brand new sealed PS Vita soon from Japan
A Nintendo switch lite is more powerful than a ps vita, it has more ram and an even more powerful chip. But sadly after a screen issue and after I did some research I found out many switch lite users face lcd problems that can be fixed only after you replace the lcd screen which cost the price of a psp and I’m currently facing this problem, I’m giving it one last try and if it comes again I’m gonna have to say goodbye to it and a ps vita is gonna be my next choice but it’s gonna be a big loss for me 😢 I just wanted to play some heavy tiles like dying light, assassins creed , nfs games, red dead redemption and saints row…. Which are impossible to play on a vita sadly
@@FriedPotatoesForLife i don't like switch. plus vita is from 2011 so of course switch will be more powerful but i still don't like switch or most of there games at all its not fun to me like how Vita is & there games are which us "minority" people likes better. Long Live Amazing Japanese Sony PlayStation handhelds + Vita forever. cant wait for PS Vita 2 to come out i hope. cant wait to sell my boring switch that i hardly ever play to get a brand new sealed OLED VITA & a Slim version as well soon....
Peace.
I've got this issue after I modified or jailbreak it , my ps vita is having a gpu crash ...when I'm playing such games .what should I do? 😅
Blows my mind that an android phone is capable of all that
What game is that with the fox?
Do a giveaway on your ps vita I really need it I always watch PS vita contents without even without owning one
I played my vita almost as much as my Switch until I got an RP4 Pro a few months ago, then that took over.
I got slim version, very good console, maybe Oled fat version is better , not sure
From a time when innovation is the norm and not who has the bigger screen or more powwerful hardware.
slim model has internal memory and standard charging port
7:02 where did you find Heroes & magic 3 port? can you share link please?
I actually loved playing the vita. They need to make a vita 2 that can run ps5 titles and I bet it’ll be a hit
i bought mine second hand with a 16gb sd memory card and persona 4 golden but instantly modded it when it came, its been with me since the last 3 months and i love it!!!
Sony is making a history of abandoning major products. Like why is PS VR still $500 if it isn’t supported? That seems crazy to me
Ps vita ❤
the vita's downfall wasn't because it was "too ahead of it's time" it was the proprietary memory card. the price on them, the weirdness of a phone sim card modal, and the gimmicks no one asked for (front and back touch screen). like wiping blood off your screen while playing mortal combat, if your getting your ass kicked and your screen is all bloody, needing to take your hand off the controls to wipe the blood off so you can see is just going to make it worse.
had it just been a PSP with a micro SD card slot it would have sold like crazy.
Yup, large reason I went with a 3DS over Vita back in the day was the storage cards. There were eventually adapters for microSD like PSP but not for a while.
But also the "ahead of the time" was somewhat true as it was more expensive to develop for and had less games in it's library than 3DS
PS Portal isn't gaming console just streaming device that's why the Vita is much better
What source is saying that PlayStation are making another handheld? I’d be very surprised if they did that.
For now, these are just rumors, like the ones mentioned on this website
www.dexerto.com/tech/playstation-vita-2-in-development-according-to-reputable-leaker-2509539/
the ps portal is the vita 2
What game are you playing at 2:14 ????
I need to know, what's the name
@@marktrick100 I think it's Foxyland
Coming form a steam deck and Xbox lover that would be a game changer do like the steam deck did in a way while you can play offline and play newer games
i got mine for 23$, i think they thought it was broken but it was just battery drain
There is more love for the PSP, there is more customization, different cases, colors, everything is better. The PS Vita, as an old design, no much colors, psv 2000 feels cheap so, there is only one the oled 1000.
I do the same things on psp on the vita an more when it’s modded
got my Miku one for $130ish cus it had a broken screen replaced it with a new oled one which ig it already had before it was broken after replacing the screen and getting the sd mod prob was like $200
I brought one made me feel sick and lightheaded I was really disappointed had to return it.
I used to have a vita but I don’t know where it went
Ps vita was waaaayyyyyy ahead of its time an amazing device abandoned with shitty games it had back touch and screen touch the possibilities were endless also the memory card was a dick move by Sony
The vita is always the answer ….until the next handheld Sony makes ….we will get closer to ps2 games on the go ,only a matter of time
Im going to buy one e soon
you forgot about tons of games that you can still buy in PSN in 2024 !
I've had to explain this to many lol People don't research I think... ;)
ngl I feel the Steam Deck sparked the handheld resurgence
not portables sadly, maybe in a couple of years we will get a new portable
Is it better than portal? 😮
The vita didn't click with me in the same way rhe psp did. The build quality was better on psp.
The plastic frame felt cheap on the vita.
While the vita looked nice, I never really liked the system. I loved Wipeout on it though.
If you have to choose ps vita besides ps portal chose portal...
Of u like retro gaming and you know how to mod buy ps vita and mod it.
And still even with the emulator the best way to play Vita games is on a Vita
Alternate Title
PS Vita SURPRISED Me in 2024 and Here's Why I'm going to say something nobody has ever disputed
Sony is the Apple of consoles have you've seen the price of the ps5 PRO.
Proprietary memory killed the vita.
LIke with concord, Sony just released the vita at the wrong time. 2015 they should of released it 2 years before the switch.
Can it connect to ps3 ?
The psvita 2,000 is better man. Much bigger and lighter. The battety last longer.
I like the vita, but i just dont find it very comfortable to use. seams like it was made for smaller hands.
Use a grip
True. You should buy a grip shell controller. Makes it much better to holsd.
Seems
What game is in this video thumbnail?
Fallout 4
I bought a vita 2k to play all SAO games but its kinda sad the hollow realization has a bottleneck performance😢
Got it to play ps4.. went home from work and the ps4 was on=tv was on.. the sound was on 🤯 it was diffrent to play on vita but it is to small for my hands and no comfort play in on it. made for a child
more like...Here's Why It's Still Better Than Nintendo Switch!..............PS Vita Far waaay better, cooler, unique, more fun, better tech, six axis motion controls, front/rear touch surfaces, OLED, 3G Wifi, dual analog, better portable size, remote play with PS3 PS4 PS5 = (GOD-LIKE), better online store, better designed, better built, not big clunky & ugly, "out of this world" better system menu OS, has Japanese background menu ambient music, amazing, has waaaaaay more hard core players, better Japanese exclusive games of many different IP's, plays PS1 PS2 PSP games, & has so much more everything else that's greater than nintendo switch 100%... even PSP cooler than the switch
can't wait to buy a brand new sealed PS Vita soon from Japan
A Nintendo switch lite is more powerful than a ps vita, it has more ram and an even more powerful chip.
But sadly after a screen issue and after I did some research I found out many switch lite users face lcd problems that can be fixed only after you replace the lcd screen which cost the price of a psp and I’m currently facing this problem, I’m giving it one last try and if it comes again I’m gonna have to say goodbye to it and a ps vita is gonna be my next choice but it’s gonna be a big loss for me 😢
I just wanted to play some heavy tiles like dying light, assassins creed , nfs games, red dead redemption and saints row….
Sony consoles, controllers, portable handhelds, & there all their thousands of out of this world 1st 2nd 3rd party Japanese/Korean/Chinese/Asian games 4 Life! so glad Sony came into gaming since the early 90's = greatest gaming platform ever for us hard core players
Is this an A.i. voice?
Love my modded vita
What game 7:09?
i think is fallout 2
@@LvcasX1 nah like the game right after that scene lol, 7:10
@@slimslam2581 Power Stone
anything is better than the PS Portal
Guess i'm lucky. I got a ps vita slim for free.
you really did not like the touch stuff.
Sony's dedicated memory card r crazy expensive and vita games were not that impressive
Nintendo switch had support had great support for games and online multiplayer
