The PlayStation Vita was a huge improvement from the PSP so I couldn’t wait to buy one. It was barely out 3 years and Sony was already declaring it as a legacy console. It was as if they just pushed it aside and didn’t care. It was a huge slap in the face to everyone that went out and purchased a Vita. I still have my PlayStation Vita. It had so much potential but Sony just didn’t support it.
I arrived late to the party but the Henkaku mod really did it for me. Retro handheld emulators seem to be the rage these days, but PSP and Vita compatibility, I don’t think those are always there. In that light, Vita kind of is that amazing retro handheld now that can do both PSP and Vita in a nice looking package.
Not to mention upscaling some psp games on the vita with mods can make it look more like a ps2 or early ps3 port. Also being able to play with a second stick makes the psvita a must. Anybody that has a psp should just sell it if they are considering entering the digital games era@@KoIhara
I bought the vita on day one and it's still going strong. After I put thousands of hours into the psp, it was a forgone conclusion that I'd get the vita. You're right about the ergo's being crappy. I bought a grip to correct that mishap. If there's any still in the wild, I strongly suggest buying one. Kind of changes everything for the better.
Day one PS vita buyer, two things to say here. One, I sold my launch OLED and got the LCD, actually enjoy that model far more tbh. Two, you’re absolutely right about the Switch. I was able to get my Switch lite for around 120 in near mint condition and there’s just so many more games on that thing it makes it hard to recommend a Vita unless you’re hacking it but even then. Switch you at least get access to some popular free multiplayer games like Warframe and Fortnite 🤷🏻♂️
I got the vita slim and borderlands bundle back in the day. The game ran like crap but 10 year old me didnt mind cuz the idea of playing a full console game on a handheld blew me away. Still play my vita to this day
I use PS4 Remote Play on my PS Vita all the time... I have quite a good internet connection so it works well for me. It works particularly well for single player games. Multiplayer on some games can be tricky though. Sometimes it works great... but I think it hogs a lot of the connection used to do remote play in the first place, so single player gaming is best. Other than that, to be able to play PS Vita, PSP, PS1, PS Vita homebrew titles/ports, and emulators on the go... don't forget, both the PS Vita and PSP altogether have a number of PS2/PS3/PS4 ports... AND I can remote play my PS4?! Sheesh. Again, the PS Vita was WAY ahead of it's time!
You can remote play on your ps3 and if you have both your ps3 and ps vita jailbroken you can remote play even more games that you wouldn’t usually be able to and use the ps vita as a screen and controller and even ps move 😅
Ohhhh right! I think I had tried to do PS3 remote play but not all games were compatible... HOWEVER apparently if you are a master hacker nerd and/or have a lot of extra time, you can actually open up the game files (I can't think of the ones in particular, I think they are like .nfo or something weird, idk) and add remote play compatibility to each and every game to make them all work. There's a certain box you have to tick, as well as possibily a couple of others... It takes a lot of time though! I wish someone would just make a workaround with the CFW to allow them to all be compatible regardless! One can hope. Anyways, dude I love the PS Vita. It's such a legendary little device, huh? If only it would've got more love... it's too bad people were so obsessed with the iPhone back then... they didn't realize what they COULD have had. Nowadays, everyone hates "gaming" on a phone because it's so uncomfortable, lmao. I guess people couldn't put up with touch screen joysticks anymore! :P I'm guessing you're a big fan of the PS Vita then too, yeah? & you have a CFW PS3 as well (which is also incredible, haha)?
The emulators that run well in Retroarch for the Vita actually run quite well, so it really depends on what you are using it for. My Retroarch is stuffed with old-school games on my Vita and I crack open Retroarch daily on it.
the vita's downfall wasn't because it was "too ahead of it's time" it was the proprietary memory card. the price on them, the weirdness of a phone sim card modal, and the gimmicks no one asked for (front and back touch screen). like wiping blood off your screen while playing mortal combat, if your getting your ass kicked and your screen is all bloody, needing to take your hand off the controls to wipe the blood off so you can see is just going to make it worse. had it just been a PSP with a micro SD card slot it would have sold like crazy.
got a ps vota when i was 3yo as a gift from my dad, i still have it with a black display but im planning to repair it. its so underrated and it needs more fame
I think you should review some of your favourite games on the vita, I personally prefer it than the switch for it's moddability, portability but the lack of l2 l3 r2 r3 buttons is the main problem I have with it
this is cool but still offers not much if its compared to an android phone. I have so many systems running on my phone that I can even have an emulator running inside of an emulated windows on my android. crazy times. Blows my mind that an android phone is capable of all that
The Vita games that utilized all or most of the functions are disliked today. Most don't understand the gimmick is a Huge part of the Experience. What sets it apart from other handhelds. I've owned mine since 2019 and have more than 20 games and love them all. My DSI XL, 2 3ds XL, and Anbernic handhelds are cool too. But my Vita is extraordinary and set apart . Hope Sony delivers another Banger system.
the vita needed Monster Hunter. if it had one i really think it would’ve been a more popular device. it laxked almost every ip that made the psp popular. it really deserved more.
I've wanted a Vita for a while, but I think the draw is those special games that are unique to the system like the Uncharted, Little Big Planet, and Gravity Rush releases. I think your observations are quite insightful, but I don't think the Vita would have held up competing against the Switch. One of the big benefits of the original Switch is the fact that you can dock it. It is a handheld AND a console in one. In this regard, I would be much more interested in something like the new Retroid Pocket 5 that is coming out later this month. It has an incredible amount of emulation potential up through Gamecube/Wii and PS2 along with a host of native Android titles. The form factor is wonderful as is the 5.5" 1080p AMOLED screen. On top of that, like the Switch, it can be docked to use it as a console. It even appears to run several Switch games via Switch emulation. If all of this wasn't appealing enough, the joysticks on the Retroid Pocket 5 are 3D hall sticks. These are significantly more sensitive and accurate than the sticks on the Switch. and shouldn't run into drift issues. For me, I'm looking forward to upscaling PS2 and Gamecube classics and even using widescreen hacks to fill that glorious 5.5" AMOLED screen with GTA 3/Vice City/San Andreas along with Ico/Shadow of the Collosus, Okami, Viewtiful Joe, Super Mario Sunshine, SSX, Bully, Silent Hill 2/3/4, Rule of Rose, Final Fantasy X, and so many other titles. The Gamecube and Wii have some outstanding titles and the PS2 has one of the greatest libraries to grace a console. Cherry-picking a best of to play on the go and then parking it in a dock when you get back home if you want?!?! This is like the Switch with even more joy. At least for an old codger like me. Anyway - that's my two cents. Informative video! Thanks for sharing and keep up the great work! Peace.
I got the PlayStation portal and it was ok like it wasn’t bad, but I really want to play PlayStation games with out WiFi so I think I’ll just grab me a Vita
Hindsight is a wonderful thing. You are knocking thee best handheld baring none even till today(1000 model). Sure did Sony fuck it up? Yup but this thing was way ahead of its time and still in 2024 it’s excellent. I do hope they bring out a vita 3 similar to the 1000 it was so very close to being an absolute winner.
Ps vita was waaaayyyyyy ahead of its time an amazing device abandoned with shitty games it had back touch and screen touch the possibilities were endless also the memory card was a dick move by Sony
For now, these are just rumors, like the ones mentioned on this website www.dexerto.com/tech/playstation-vita-2-in-development-according-to-reputable-leaker-2509539/
i bought mine second hand with a 16gb sd memory card and persona 4 golden but instantly modded it when it came, its been with me since the last 3 months and i love it!!!
There is more love for the PSP, there is more customization, different cases, colors, everything is better. The PS Vita, as an old design, no much colors, psv 2000 feels cheap so, there is only one the oled 1000.
The vita didn't click with me in the same way rhe psp did. The build quality was better on psp. The plastic frame felt cheap on the vita. While the vita looked nice, I never really liked the system. I loved Wipeout on it though.
So many talk of seeking out a PSP... I get it. I loved my PSP, but in this day and age... Why? The Vita has everything the PSP does, plus its own hardware perks, and games. I've had to explain this to many lol People don't research I think... ;)
Coming form a steam deck and Xbox lover that would be a game changer do like the steam deck did in a way while you can play offline and play newer games
Got it to play ps4.. went home from work and the ps4 was on=tv was on.. the sound was on 🤯 it was diffrent to play on vita but it is to small for my hands and no comfort play in on it. made for a child
Sony's dedicated memory card r crazy expensive and vita games were not that impressive Nintendo switch had support had great support for games and online multiplayer
Prices are way overpriced right now. In my area the average price is around 200 bucks. It's crazy when I can buy a new Switch Lite for 150. Moreover I don't understand why you need Vita, there are no good exclusive games on it. And for playing PSP games you can buy a PSP, they are super cheap now, it’s much more portable, and modding is also very easy.
There are many nice vita titles though. P4G, the world ends with you, Marvel vs Capcom 3, gravity rush, MGS and FF X collections to name a few. Being able to play those free alone are enough to buy it over a psp. That said i only got mine for $125
I got my vita for 60 a play psp vita and a few gta games like SA, gta 3 and bully. I also can play n64, GBA, sega; and some arcade games Vita is the best hands down
The PlayStation Vita was a huge improvement from the PSP so I couldn’t wait to buy one. It was barely out 3 years and Sony was already declaring it as a legacy console. Got a ps vita modded a few months back and while I haven’t put many hours in (only played gravity rush) I love it and am excited to play more of it
Recently bought a used one and modded it and love it glad to have Freedomwars back specially since it’s coming to Playstation5 later next year.
Great game

bought a vita recently in vietnam for around 90 bucks. totally worth it imo.
I got one about 8 years ago in Canada for $80 Canadian like new condition

I still use my Vita regularly because I love the smaller form factor compared to most handhelds today.
I still have and play my Vita. It gives a different experience to my Switch Lite. Both are superb.
The emulators that run well in Retroarch for the Vita actually run quite well, so it really depends on what you are using it for. My Retroarch is stuffed with old-school games on my Vita and I crack open Retroarch daily on it.

Ps vita ❤
PS Vita seems amazing but the steep price of such an old portable made me go all out with a Steam Deck instead and I am super happy I got it!
got a ps vota when i was 3yo as a gift from my dad, i still have it with a black display but im planning to repair it. its so underrated and it needs more fame

My Vita and PSTV are still going strong
Can you tell me where can I get the wallpaper (the one with the playstation logo) at the start of the video please, thanks
They need to add high end mobile games to the next vita
I got mine for free, my mom found it cleaning out someone’s apartment (college kid) mods have made this my favorite system to play
I bought a OLED VITA and its worth it
I love the psp and the Psvita!

It actually fits into a pocket to me that's portable! Also it has physical games
the vita needed Monster Hunter. if it had one i really think it would’ve been a more popular device. it laxked almost every ip that made the psp popular. it really deserved more.
PS Portal isn't gaming console just streaming device that's why the Vita is much better

7:02 where did you find Heroes & magic 3 port? can you share link please?
the 1000 had hall effect joystick. having no stick drift ever since i bought mine a decade ago (when it was still new)
I bought the COD Declassified special edition PS Vita at launch!😅Cool system!😊
I got the PlayStation portal and it was ok like it wasn’t bad, but I really want to play PlayStation games with out WiFi so I think I’ll just grab me a Vita
Got mine two days ago, it's amazing got like 60 games installed lol
Sony is making a history of abandoning major products. Like why is PS VR still $500 if it isn’t supported? That seems crazy to me
I've got this issue after I modified or jailbreak it , my ps vita is having a gpu crash ...when I'm playing such games .what should I do? 😅
Do a giveaway on your ps vita I really need it I always watch PS vita contents without even without owning one
ngl I feel the Steam Deck sparked the handheld resurgence
Proprietary memory killed the vita.
I actually loved playing the vita. They need to make a vita 2 that can run ps5 titles and I bet it’ll be a hit
Hindsight is a wonderful thing. You are knocking thee best handheld baring none even till today(1000 model). Sure did Sony fuck it up? The psvita 2,000 is better man. Much bigger and lighter. The battety last longer.
I got slim version, very good console, maybe Oled fat version is better , not sure
Ps vita was waaaayyyyyy ahead of its time an amazing device abandoned with shitty games it had back touch and screen touch the possibilities were endless also the memory card was a dick move by Sony
What source is saying that PlayStation are making another handheld? I’d be very surprised if they did that.
For now, these are just rumors, like the ones mentioned on this website

Sony is the Apple of consoles have you've seen the price of the ps5 PRO.
If you have to choose ps vita besides ps portal chose portal...
Of u like retro gaming and you know how to mod buy ps vita and mod it.
The vita didn't click with me in the same way rhe psp did. The build quality was better on psp.

I used to have a vita but I don’t know where it went
LIke with concord, Sony just released the vita at the wrong time. 2015 they should of released it 2 years before the switch.
anything is better than the PS Portal
Is it better than portal? 😮
Can it connect to ps3 ?
I like the vita, but i just dont find it very comfortable to use. seams like it was made for smaller hands.
Use a grip
True. You should buy a grip shell controller. Makes it much better to holsd.
Im going to buy one e soon

Sony's dedicated memory card r crazy expensive and vita games were not that impressive
