  • I got called for a 15 passenger van loaded with people that were led out and unmaintained forest service road and got stuck in the snow on their way home from a day of snowmobiling. I headed out in the 4x4 wrecker and picked Alex up along the way, and then we went out the infamous Conklin rd. We immediately came across a conversion van that was stuck at the first downhill. The @YankumRopes made quick work of that job, and then we headed out to find the van we were looking for. Once we did, some easy winching work got them turned around, and the the Yankum Rope pulled them all the way back to the main road.

The customer's demeanor and ability to follow instructions to the letter gave me the impression that he has a military background. He added to the video as well with his comments. Mentioning Matt's 'error' was a pleasant nod to him, and an indication that sharing mistakes is a good learning tool. And as you often do, the level of humor adds to the whole scenario.

Great double recovery, and as for Alex's leap. I've seen this happen a few times to friends, they test the ice creeping out then get a run . then as they push off to leap they exert 20 time their weight ie. Man that's a sweet wrecker. I'm a retired owner operator 33 years nearly 3 million miles in my logs and many years in the North country Yukon NWT Yellow knife Ice roads and the dreaded lake roads. I've actually been studying your technique and am learning tricks we didn't have the new age equipment to do. When a person makes something look super easy you know they're a pro. And you are. I'm putting together a recovery kit based on what I'm seeing you use and do. Your videos are well done and a wealth of input to me. You're never too old to learn. Did you retrieve that chock?? I didn't see it happen? Dandahermit. I'm.oldbschool and have ALLWAYS worked with wire rope. I have issues with physics as regards Kenetic ropes. But I took the leap with the 12,000 lb winch I just bought with the poly rope. Hope I can respool with wire rope if I want to. G night.

I wondered about that block of wood, but thought "just because it wasn't on camera, Casey probably picked it up anyway" - then I saw the epilogue... He's not the only one to leave something behind.

"Never use a GPS device" for trip planning / navigation. Always use a Real Map. Write down turn by turn directions to yourself. Stay with the routing you have planned (unless you are forced off the rt by external circumstances). If at any point in a trip, you become Uncomfortable with your directions, drive to the nearest safe location where you can get off the road, and make a new set of directions for yourself. It can be Helpful to use electronic devices and such to Assist you during Trip Planning. I never completely trust such devices wile I am Driving.
Near the end of the video, you can hear the van driver expressing that he was uncomfortable with that road, before he drove down it. His gut instinct was spot on in that moment.
The extremely nice and very professional tow truck operator who made this video cannot always be available everywhere.

Thank you for what you do. My new Nitro 28 foot car hauler lost the axels in Ohio after a cross country trip. The trailer lasted 6500 miles then came apart. The towing company in Ohio blackmailed me out of $7500.00 to tow the trailer back to NH. They wouldn't let me tow it because of liability and he couldn't get the trailer company to pay so he turned to me and stuck it to me.

Looked like the prefect customer. Followed your directions and seemed to know what you were talking about. Plus, when it was time to gather all the passengers, he just said, "LOAD UP" and they all were moving 😆

As you hooked up the yank'em, I was mentally screaming at Alex to go pick up your block of wood before getting your epic drive-by shot. 😁
