- I got called by the friend of a group who went to a remote lake for a day of swimming and didn't make it back. The caller had gotten a very broken phone call from them that they had slid into the ditch and needed winched out. The reality of the situation turned out to be much worse as they had slid off the road into a ravine, and luckily got hung up on a large stump that stopped them from tumbling to the bottom, but unfortunately damaged their fender and door when it did. I used a mixture of @YankumRopes and @harborfreight recovery gear to rig it all up, then pulled it out with my Badlands Apex winch using a Chevy Duramax as an anchor to help with the pull

This job turned out to be FAR different than we planned for! Luckily there was another truck on site to use as an anchor, and between the Apex winch and Yankum recovery gear we were able to get it out. Get your own Yankum gear at yankum.com?afmc=CHR !!
Did you guys manage to go rescue the original Subaru after this? /s 😂
Is this bad ? , what do you guys call bad ? 😁 , another awesome recovery .!!!
If you continue to charge your tows for a whole $0, well then I'm gonna have to continue watching your videos to support you.
Sounds like a fair trade to me!
I’ll be doing the same as I’ve found my self needing a tow and left with a decent bill without the hugs and a kiss 💋
@@CaseyLaDelle having recently paid real money for a trailer recovery (and having to coach the tow truck driver how to get my broken trailer onto his rig and off...) I'd like to thank you and Matt's for teaching me all I know about dragging broken crap around!
Love the videos and the opportunity to learn.
Hi from Ecuador
He really doesn't charge?! That's incredible, what a good deed. I was expecting hundreds at minimum. A tow truck on the road in the suburbs is at least $100.
The world needs a lot more of you, Casey.
Naaah, onez enuf.
@Project337 Amen to that Brother!
Casey, your skill, empathy and decency never ceases to impress me.
Casey you and Alex make a great team, he asks some really good questions to keep us viewers not only entertained while you go off and get rescues assessed and roped up, and us viewers are learning something at the same time. That Equinox looked pretty messed up and totaled no doubt, I'm sure it's occupants were greatful for the gratis rescue. Keep up the good work you two!!
Yeah he is really good about asking me stuff that I don't think to explain while I'm doing it
I was thinking the same thing!
Once you start popping airbags, most vehicles will be considered to be totaled.
i was thinking same thing love watching the videos and especially when Alex comes along
After a Recent collision ( another Swamp Donkey Michigan white tail deer) my Daughter’s 2010 Ford Flex they did not total it. The Adjuster told me that it would only be totaled when it went over (the cost of the Damages and repair/Replacement parts ) hit 75% of the Vehicles Value . Subject to the condition of the vehicle at its Millage. $3,300.00 ish was the total cost and the blue book value was $7,300.00
It was fixed! I pay the full coverage insurance for her and it’s always paid off... but I pay a lot too!
This is why I love supporting this channel. That was probably $1,000 recovery right there. And because people like us support this channel you're able to help these people for as you put it "$0".
As far away from anything as it was, I would have been way over that
Wouldn't their insurance pay something for the tow?
@@njsongwriter only if I impounded their vehicle and held it until it was paid for
@@CaseyLaDelle yeah that makes sense. 20 years ago when I was doing heavy recovery normal calls were $150 an hour, and emergency or technical recoveries were $300 an hour port to port. The big tractor trailer rollovers you see on the news would often be $10k to $20k way back then depending on how much equipment we had to bring in. Probably twice that now
With the cost of equipment, fuel, and labor today it has to be more than that. I'm sure with fuel prices you have to add a fuel surcharge.
@@poisonpony1 thanks for putting some insight to these rescues, I've always been curious.
I love that "flashlight" you were using to scan the area for trees to winch from. =)
Yup, it was quite small 😁
i have a surefire its brighter and smaller than my hand. he had a rocket launcher apparently🤣
I liked that flashlight too! Do you have a link for it?
Can you leave some flashlight for the rest of us? Lol. That thing is huge.
@@Kulio_ib3wc He's just trying to compensate for the size of his ... ... er ... ... Jeep.
This reminded me of a similar event outside Flagstaff, AZ. 3 girls skipped class and went out into the forest. They slid off the road and rolled down an embankment. The passengers had seat belts on but the driver did not and was ejected on the way down. Their SUV landed upside down at the bottom of the ravine. After the passengers unbuckled they heard the driver calling for help but could not find her at first. She was trapped under the vehicle. The roof had caved in lengthwise in a V shape and she was trapped in the V! It took several hours for rescuers to get her out. She was uninjured except for a lot of bruises and a sprained (maybe broken, don't remember) ankle! She even wanted to climb back up to the road under her own power, but the rescuers said no. One in a million!
Thanks for the mini-story.
Seatbelts work.
Teenagers are indestructible
The description doesn't fit the story. Broken ankle/ uninjured
@@dukeflem Word for you to look up “except”.
They are very lucky that the crash wasn't worst. They are even luckier to have you come out to rescue them with your skills at no small risk to yourself. Then to top it off you did the job at no cost.
Bless you !
A Subaru gets sprinkled with brush dust and POOF! It’s a Chevy! 😂 You are a generous and kind man. What a breath of fresh air and an inspiration to all of us. Thank you!
i got stuck a couple years ago in salt creek falls all by my lonesome...if i didn't have cell coverage it woudl've been bad. i had a buddy that took the time to drive all the way up with his ford, of all things to get me. since then if i see someone stopped i always do what i can to help and spread the karma. thanks for what you do casey, you're a good man, sir.
So now Casey needs to start a tree planting project to get some trees started on the uphill sides of all these roads to help out future generations of off road recovery guys.
That and have Road and Trail maintenance to stop cutting trees on the uphill side of the road
Wow that was a quick change from a simple yank em out to a serious rescue. I can't believe it started and drove out of there. Without that full size truck that would have been so much harder. Good job guys!
Yeah I don't think I could have done it without the other truck there
@@CaseyLaDelle we have faith in you Casey I'm sure you would have got it done
An important factor that needs to be recognized and fully understand is, no blankies were lost during this recovery.
Hahah, I noticed that too.
Maybe it's a new take on "running out of gas" or "getting stuck" This iteration requires you to take extra friends along and to try to total it...
I don't always travel back country Oregon roads, but when I do, I'm always glad Casey is on the job just in case.
The girl with the Duramax impressed me the most. 1st on scene, made sure all of her friends were taken care of and knew exactly what to do when you told her how you wanted her positioned. Plus she is driving a lifted diesel. Girl has her stuff together.
That was one of my takeaways, too. She's the epitome of the phrase, "A friend in need is a friend indeed!"
Great job guys. Casey, you're like the big brother a lot of us wish we had. Thanks for helping out.
Nice job casey god bless you for helping the young people out
I'm glad no one was hurt but the Chevy may be totaled. The damage might be worse than it looks and once the airbags deploy that puts it too expensive to repair category. Good job getting it out with the available resources Casey!
Yeah I'm betting it's totalled
Insurance company will total it due to airbag deployment
even if there wasnt a dent in the body, the airbags deployed, automatic total
@@thomasfletcher4765 I'm betting insurance company will deny claim. Most insurance won't cover off road, I doubt there is a police report documenting the event. It's totaled and someone is out a reasonably large around of cash.
@@thelongdaysofwheeling124 I'm wondering about that being considered "off-road". If it's a numbered and maintained Forest Service Road, it's possible that it would be covered. I'm thinking that the qualifier is being maintained by a government entity. It's been a while since I've been on them, but we had dirt state highways here in CA.
Casey, you have a good heart.. I just hope that the recipients of your generosity pay it forward. I feel good every time I watch one of your videos
Great work , Casey . " I can only see bushes moving " , it's okay , it's Casey the bear
Nice work Casey. Very rare anyone bothers to setup a multi line pull these days.
Thanks, it's great that the world has people like yourself.
They were lucky the vehicle stopped when it did! Good job Casey getting it pulled out! Was good that it started to!
Casey you are awesome for sure. Smart, skilled nice guy. Your channel rocks!
Casey great job. You too Alex
Loved the massive handheld floodlight
Damn Casey...you are an eagle eye!! Well done!! Silly teens!
Casey your Jeep's Purple lights are wonderful 💜 I really like your flashlight. That is Awesome to have. Thank Your helper for me. Names are hard for me to keep in my mind. Thank you both for going on this Amazing rescue. Happy Everyone including the Equinox was good. Good evening. Peace Out
Great job Casey and the m thank you for not charging them as it looks like there having a rough time as it is and thank God there ok.
Extremely lucky group. You do awesome work and extra kudos to you for not charging them.
You planned that extraction just right, pretty darn impressive! It is quite amazing that no one got hurt in that car.
You all did the work, I'm happy to watch the video. Nice of them to drive that diesel anchor up to help their friends out.
Well they were lucky that someone was smart enough to call you 👍
Choices were made and not all of them were good ones 🤔
Good job getting them out of a bad situation 👍👍
This was so much fun to watch. Thanks for filming.
Great job and great video Casey - keep up the good work
Thanx for All you Do
Have a Great Day 👍
"Do u think its bad" had me laughing so fkn hard 🤣
That was a cool, interesting and little bit technical recovery...at night and clear up in the woods. Casey, you did a great job of explaining your whole assessment of the situation once you had looked everything over and a great job of explaining how you were going to get that heavy "Subaru" back up on the road using a snatch block, an anchor point and reduction pulling (increased torque) using just your Jeep's winch. The camera work by Alex plus his good questions and comments were great as well. Good one guys!
Amazing rigging skills Casey!
Casey,,, You're a ROCKSTAR! 👍😄👍
Alex did great as the camera man. Good recovery and so glad no one was hurt in the accident or the making of this video. Keep em coming
Another happy trails story! Thanks Casey!
Much as I can’t stand ads/commercials this channel is worth letting them run so he gets paid ✊🏻❤️
Wow! Great recovery!👍😎 You ARE good at this!😊 Keep up the great videos and stay safe out there!❤️🙏
Great winch skills as usual but I can’t figure how some of your customers get themselves into these messes I guess it comes down to driving ability and the vehicle their using. keep up the charity work.
Good job Casey! I want to try a Yankum rope at the fire department for pulling our brush truck and EMS truck out of mud and such. We had an off brand rope and somebody broke it so the board doesn’t want to spend that much on a new one. We’re all volunteer so we have a board.
I just love it when these wannabe cowboys in uniform want to make decisions for the lives and safety of the men who are in the mud and can't get to the rescue. We have the same mentality here in north Florida where it floods. Sheriff's office finally broke down and bought a HumVee. Guess who drives it the most??? Mr. Sheriff himself, mostly to special events unrelated to floods.
@@lucygray6162 😮
Well I sure am glad that nobody was hurt. Nice job getting the car out of there Casey. I would not surprise me if the car was considered to be a total loss , it may also have frame rail damage on that right front side. Thumbs UP to you Casey! 👍
Casey you and your wife are the people from California that i have ever liked thank you dont change the way you are
Casey, You are a Saint, helping others not just when they need it the most and in some of the worst conditions but charging the $0 Kudo's to You
The question here is. Did the driver learn anything from this experience?
im sure they learned that wrecking is expensive since they have to buy a new car lol
@@tncountryboy06 I was thinking more along the lines of not going out with only 1 rig never wheeling alone. Drive carefully in the dark with the deer 🦌.
@@hyperjen1 I have been going out alone for 25 years. It's about risk management rather than number of vehicles. Prepare for the worst. Plan for self recovery. Make sure someone knows approximately where you are. And, never leave home with electrical tape!
They knew who to call for a free recovery. They probably have a low deductible. Nobody died. My guess is no lessons were learned.
@@brucehalleran1149 Yeah, dude in the equinox even seemed mad at alex. Shoot, you can film me any day of the week in lieu of charging me a couple grand for an extraction..
This is why I support channels like yours. I wish you much success in all aspects of your life🙌
That was a bad situation where a lot of things went right. You can't get 'em out till you find them: Casey was tracking their footprints in the dust by the side of the road - from the drivers seat. This night they were blessed with a good friend with the number to a good Samaritan.
During the winter I'll do recoveries for free but every once in awhile somebody will slip me some cash. I'll use that for more recovery gear .👍
Great video and great job with the recovering and glad they were not hurt God bless from GA
I was ready to go to bed and notification Casey off road recovery came on guuud nite Bors
I kept wondering if an Apex winch would be enough winch for my one ton dually. After seeing what you and Matt's Off-road Recovery do with yours, I think it'll be just fine.
The Badlands Apex 12,000 lb. winch with a remote control and synthetic rope on it is probably the best buy on the market as far as getting bang for your buck. I have experience with them and I know quite a few people in Idaho who use them for anything and everything in the Idaho backcountry and the surrounding western U.S. states...and the high number of UA-camrs who use them for all kinds of recoveries isn't a coincidence, the things flat work and they're tough. 🦍🪝👍✔
I was wandering the same thing I look at the warn and it is close to 2000 dollars and the badlands is around 500 and was just afraid it was really cheaply made
@@troyehnisz9907 I've had four winches fail in my life. Every single one was a warn. All they are is another Chinese built winch with a high price tag and a completely bogus "made in USA" claim...
In my early days of wheelin and having a 4x4 to extricate folks in a bad way, I always told them to pay it forward/ pass it on. But you Sir run a professional business and have a family. A tank of gas (at todays prices???) wouldn't be too much to ask.
Great job and Thank You for keeping the _rap out of the woods. Hardly anyone realizes how damaging oils, antifreeze and trash are to the environment and the wildlife.
You are in my prayers
Hoka Hey
One of my upcoming videos actually has that exact pay it forward talk in it
A night recovery in the woods in Central Oregon in July, thanks for the ride along,
Awesome recovery you saved those people and the vehicle
Well done Casey and Alex. Glad everyone got out ok and nobody got hurt. That could have been a lot worse.
Awesome job/work/rescue once again Casey! I'm more and more impressed with Harbor Freight "stuff".
Nice guys. 👍 Glad no one was hurt and you had the truck to distribute the weight into.
Thanks Casey for the great video!! Night time is the worst for that kind of job. Visibility is very important in assessing the situation. Your lights and experience paid off again!! I can't believe they were able to drive that thing home!! LUCKY!!!!
Thanks for the video, always enjoy watching!
Nice to see you helping people. Thanks
Great job Casey your skills show through once again
You're the best Casey! Wonder how they went over into the ditch? The road was plenty wide. Glad no one got hurt and they were able to drive it out.
Yay for another Casey and Alex rescue. Great job pulling that Equinox out of there Casey! So glad they had a truck there to lend some weight. Keep up the rad videos!
Casey, you've been holding out on us - you got your hardtop!
I was wondering if anyone else noticed, or that he still needs new rock lights. But yeah thay hard top looks so much better then the damn tissue paper rag top.
Not holding out, I installed it earlier that day

Well done guys. That could have been so much worse for them. Lucky it was mostly greasebrush and not a bunch of trees/ big rocks.
There was a tree stump that it hit
You are awesome Casey that’s why I watch you from Boise 👍👍👍
You said stay with the vehicle when trouble, which is what all the rescue agents say. It's amazing how many people don't, also how they don't have survival gear with them, stay safe all

Casey, for doing these videos
Super rescue Casey and thanks Alex for filming. ❤️🇦🇺🇺🇸
Good job Casey. These people just dont understand what you do. Keep up the good work. Take care dude
Amazing work as always. Love these search and rescue videos ❤❤
Excellent job, made it easy, thanks for the video, all the best to yous and your loved ones
Great job as always Casey 😀👍👍❤️❤️
Another great recovery .
Casey why are you carrying a Bazooka slash Flash light? 😂 Don't recall seeing that before. Cool rescue!
Awesome recovery! You are so generous with your time and energy. Every time I see you use extra pulleys to multiply pulling power, transfer the load weight, or change direction of pull, I keep thinking how this is real world use of math, geometry and physics that we learned in school, and never saw what possible use it could be in the real world when we were kids. That scrub brush is nasty stuff to work in, hope you didn't suffer too many injuries. Always amazing how information gets distorted the more mouths it goes through!
THANK YOU FOR WHAT YOU DO!!!!
Great Rescue Casey
Great job as always.Your rigging is just what's needed with out going over board.
Casey you are very observant seeing tracks in the dirt at night! You have definitely learned your trade well. This country is built on tradesmen!
That new hardtop is looking good. 😁👍
Great nite time recovery Casey and Alex. Funny how the description of the vehicle changes when you get there. Like you said Casey, had you been given the right vehicle description, you would have brought the appropriate vehicle. 🤙😎
Casey you and Alex y'all did a Awesome job and that did it nothing is awesome too
It's interesting (and highly educational) to see the different ways that you are using winches and ropes to be able to get the fulcrum necessary to pull vehicles out of the situations that you encounter. I hope I never have need of the information, but it's greatly appreciated that you are so willing to share your knowledge and experience.
As always, great job Casey.
Looks like a perfect job for Scott from Vehcor to fix.
Hey Casey any chance you can show us some footage of where the suv went over the edge in the daylight so we can really see how sketchy of a recovery this was and how bad it could have been.
Since it's almost two hours away.... Very little chance of that happening
@@CaseyLaDelle okay I get that. But how about next time your in that area you do some footage of that area and add some clips of the recovery from that night.
Nice rescue Casey. There's definitely much more to this story. Let's hope they learn from this, it could have been so much worse.
Very nice gesture on your part, Casey !
Thank you for sharing!
Gotta love misinformation. I see this on every channel. Folks don't realize that good information will make a difference and certainly alleviate undo hardships on the person doing the recovery. It is a big unknown what you're headed into when you do recoveries especially in Timbuktu middle of the night. Great video, thank you for all you do for these folks. Stay safe and GOD bless
