So true!! It's annoying when I hear some people call Sabaton "neo-nazis". Calling them that just shows you that they haven't even listen to any of Sabaton's songs. Also I love their defense, claiming that the song "Ghost Division" is celebrating the Nazi's. WHAT!?! It's a song about history!! I would reply to these people with "Have you listened to Rise of Evil by Sabaton?" Because that song shows us that they aren't pro nazi.

But thankfully it became a history lesson for most swedes and even an album that made swedes proud, proud of the history but also of Sabatons success.

I have a very similar philosophy to your "look for the best in people" when it comes to politics (as a person who has studied political science). The vast majority of people want a better society and honestly believe they are the "good guys." And that shared belief alone shows there is potential common ground (or at least common understanding) on most issues if a civil discussion can be had. It simply prevents a prejudging of a person's character and as history has shown prejudging almost never results in a good outcome.

Kings and generals just released a video about the Battle of Fraustadt and Sabaton history also describes the battle in Killing ground and while most things are similar there is also clear differences. For instance in the Sabaton history episode Indy describes how the Swedish infantry marched under fire and unleashed their on volley at around 10 meters from the enemy, in the kings and generals video they say the swedish infantry charged without firing at all. From what I've read my sources backs up Sabaton historys version, but I can`t be sure what's right. Much is lost in history and war.

Haya. Another great reactions, thanku. Oh my, yup right there with you about how some people just do not do their homework & or just like causing conflict for no real reason. Everybody has a back story & should never be judged on/in the moment that they are seen in a negative way, maybe that person just had a bad day & they are venting in a way that helps them. I have had soooo many people dis me & they never had the intelligence to think that they should get to know the back story of me & or the 'situation'
When I hear people dis others & or judge, I say, get to know the person first & not be blinded on what you were told by others peoples opinions, opinions are thoughts, they are not always correct, it is suprizing to sometimes see that they were then wrong. Things can only be right at the time & things/situations change all the time & therefore thoughts & situations change, does not mean it was wrong previously.
Because we are ALL different & unique I base my own thoughts on people & will not be blinded by those who want to be mean/cruel about others (unless it is justified & even then I go check first)
Sabaton & all the people behind the scenes do soooooo much work in getting the History correct, then it just takes 1 ignorant person to say & or do something wrong, then sometimes things get waaaaay out of control, then again for those that are not blind should not allow the negatives take over. . . why do some humans do that? Thanku for sharing 🙂🙂

We used a very unusual system for recruitment (at least at the time unusual)
Basically every village (I don’t remember what it’s called it’s kinda complicated) had to contribute with one soldier and a place for them to live. That also made it so the entire economy didn’t collapse since they could choose strategically and send the son of one of many farmers or that of many bakers in the village, so they didn’t loose for example their only smith and thereby all tool making capacity

I agree with Chris's viewpoint on not assuming facts about how people basis on appearance alone, As the saying goes, "not judging a book by its cover" (or in this case an album as were talking about how a band looks!)
The inherent problem for people in “the media” is they are always judged in those terms that are presented about them. Their image can be manipulated for one aim or another for many reasons- politicians and their agents are masters of the dark art of spin-doctoring….but there not the only ones.
Some cultivate their image, even if it’s an act on their part to do very bad or criminal things (I don't like the term evil as that's a religious viewpoint)- If you need an example look up Jimmy Saville .....A man who cultivated his image as a popular jovial TV personality, was knighted for services to broadcasting and for charity work ……. but was in reality a toxic man and rapacious sex offender preying on the young and hospital patients; a man who used his “celebrity power” to evade justice and investigation in his lifetime (- much like medieval nobility avoided crime against the peasantry).

My point is that it is so ingrained in us here in Sweden that what we were and did in the late 1600/early 1700's was so bad and has been taken over by far right groups, that that's, I think, alot of swedes' reaction to hearing someone praise it. After that, in my early 30's I got alot more interested in history, and now I'm proud of our history and our accomplishments. Not that we killed alot people, but that a small country in the north of europe could do so much with so little.

Some resistance members are still alive, and every time they speak out, that no polish citizen should face persecution, those "patriots" just hand wave all of that away by saying "oh, they are just old and demented, they don't know what they are talking about".
I can't imagine how it must feel to see your friends and loved ones die in the name of freedom and equality only to see that those loved ones now became mascots of the neo-nazis that call themselves patriots. People that claim to "honor" the resistance members are saying stuff like "Poland shall be white or desolate", or people who wear a polish anchor symbol on their shirts beating up people at pride parades, how fucked up is that?

Love this song but to keep in context. For many years the neonazis in Sweden marched through the streets at 30th of Novemeber (CXII day of death) and people got killed. So they made him a symbol of Swedish might and greatness compared to filfthy immigrants. This is the problem we face today but Carolus XII should only be blamed to have loss the empire, a tragic saga. It took like 150 years for Sweden to get back...

Hey.. I have to say this. I was 8 when Columbine happend. I live in Sweden so i had never heard of it until like....10 years ago? I watched alot of documentarys about it because i think its something that needs to be remembered. When i think about Columbine, i think about Shoeles. Not just him, but he always comes to mind. Everytime. That someone had to trough the hate that he got just before he got shot. I dont remember hearing much about Rachel, im so sorry about that. I would really love to hear you speak about her. Maybe here or in a Discord voicechat with people that are interested. I allways listen to what you have to say. And thank you for checking our old kings and just the kingdom itself and actually showing interest in it. If you ever are in Southern Sweden (Skåne, Lower parts of Småland) i would love to have a chat with you just about history. Ive learned so much from Sabaton and ive improved because of you. Thank you for this channel.

The king seems to have been a very tolerant person and pretty multicultural as well. Here's some facts regarding that: Charles XII let the muslims and jews who had followed him from the Ottoman Empire to Sweden practice their own religions instead of forcefully converting them to protestantism upon arrival. He let them stay and live in Sweden instead of sending them back to the Ottoman Empire. He also had many non-Swedish allies such as the Ukrainian cossacks under Ivan Mazepa. And the kings army had many soldiers and generals from all over the Swedish kingdom as well as from beyond the borders of the realm. They had Scottish generals (Leslie, Spense and Hamilton), Finnish cavalry regements (the hakkapeliita), and so on. The king himself wasnt even fully Swedish. Taking all this into account makes it even more ridiculous when some right-wing extremist group tries to claim him as "their guy" or when some left-wing extremists and some journalists tries to cancel a band for making songs about him, or cancel people for listening to those songs, because, according to them, "Charles XII was basically a nazi/fascist/racist". No you douchebags! Charles XII wasnt a nazi or a fascist or whatever, those ideologies where not even a thing back then. He was probably what we today would call a conservative and a patriot because obviously. I mean he's a monarch so what else would he be? And people can admire him, see him as a national hero, wright songs about him or listen to songs about him without being some sort of hyper-nationalist or nazi. And also the singer in Sabaton, Joakim, is partially non-Swedish (half Czech) so i highly doubt he (or Sabaton as a whole for that matter) would have some sort of ultra right wing, Swedish neo-nazi agenda. Jesus freaking christ, man... Sorry for the rant but this whole thing has me all worked-up and i had to get it out of my system.

Im a Swede and i for one have gone deep into history of not only Sweden but many countries. As Pär said Carolus Rex has been a frontfigure for nationalistic pride which in my mind is ok BUT not when its neonazis promoting the status. There is a band called Ultima Thule for example which many considere neonazis during the 90's but they actually werent however the stigma stuck to them. They are infact anti nazis. I met them and i know. The fun fact that nazis doesnt know because they dont always delve into history is that Carolus Rex was a great promotor of foreign cultures and invited alot of worlds experts into sweden. Shipbuilders from netherlands, german aristocrats, french advisors and faculty teachers on university so on. What made Sweden great was the unification of alot of nations people. Ignorance is both on the left and right of todays society. National pride or such is not automatically neonazism.

With Indy hearing from the one person saying "are you sure you want to work with them, don't they support neo-Nazi's". I once saw a comment on a clip on a video that used a little bit of a sabaton song and the clip said "sabaton is propaganda" which is completely false, just because they sing about military history does not mean its propaganda. The definition of propaganda is "information, especially of a biased or misleading nature, used to promote or publicize a particular political cause or point of view." And in one of the sabaton history videos they say that sabaton has nothing to do with propaganda.

As a swede, I actually think that Sabaton may have redeemed Karl XII somewhat from being a neo-nazi figurehead, since the album Carolus Rex was a HUGE hit worldwide, swedes now don't associate him as much with nationalism anymore. They rightfully reinvigorated him as he was; just another historical king of Sweden, with crazy adventures thou.
Although swedish neo-nazis tend to praise Swedish SS-volunteers as well as Sven Olov Lindholm(leader of the National Socialist Workers' Party in Sweden before and during WW2).

After reading some of my first novel my brother, who has a bachelor's degree in philosophy, called me a fascist. I was initially insulted until I looked up the definition. The philosophical root of fascism is the belief that what is good for the group, or I would say the team, is what is good for every individual on the team. Perhaps not at that precise moment but in the long term. All the totalitarian trappings are as repulsive to me as anyone else raised in this country. I do believe that Jesus would have agreed that you should put others needs first and if everyone does all are better off. It, of course, only takes one selfish twit to screw it all up for everybody.

There were at least two evening papers in Sweden who gave the Carolus Rex album the lowest score they could. Even admitting to not having listened to the album, but they weren't even going to give a Neo-Nazi album the benefit of the doubt. They also didn't wan to be associated with having listened to it.
It's really messed up, but it is a view many have. When we allow history to be claimed this way by Neo-Nazi's and the like, we only let them win.

In these particular times, I absolutely understand Charles XII's extreme brutality in the face of political opposition and doubt being cast towards his authority. As was stated earlier, Charles was _right_ on the edge of whether or not he would've had a Regent acting in his stead, and those regencies were known for abusing their power, exploiting and weakening the state for their own gain, so if that had happened to Charles he would inherit a severely deprived Sweden instead of the one his father left him. He simply could _not_ allow there to be any attempt to delegitimize his rule as soon as he took the throne.
I'm not saying that these kinds of actions or reactions are the right thing to do, I'm simply saying that at this particular point in European history and in Charles' exact circumstances, those were probably the only realistic decisions and actions he could've made to stay King for long instead of being discredited.

I kind of disagree about the angle presented about the association between the Karl XII and the Swedish nationalist movement. Our political class has in the last 50-60 years tried to frame the whole era of the Swedish Empire as something horrible and shameful, since it displays Swedish power, assertiveness and an aggresive expansion of Swedish culture throughout the baltic region. IF you want to be able to control a people the leaders needed to downplay and ridicule powerful figures in our own history to make us not get any ideas of pride and a feeling of cultural supremacy. Because of this stigma forcibly attached it left the field open for it to be adopted by other forces within society. The Swedish politicians that bitch about this only have themselves to blame.

But try talking about Engelbrekt to a swedish person and see how they take it. He has become even more of a neo-nazi symbol than Karl XII, also undeserved. I wish sabbaton would do a song about him as well. I think thats a good way of taking these important historical figures back to the nation instead of haters.

In the 1800:s Swedish historians made Carolus Rex(Karl XII) a national hero. Later on, in the 1900:s, the Swedish nazis and right-wingers made him a symbol. Strangely, he is a (nazi) symbol. Carolus Rex lost the Swedish empire. Carolus Rex losing and fighting a horrible war was one of the reasons why Sweden became a neutral and peaceful country for over 200years. Left-wingers in Sweden have fallen into the same trap. They see Carolus Rex as a fascist and hating foreigners. He was allied with the Ottoman empire and allowed Jewish and Muslim prayers in Sweden. Remember that Sweden was at the beginning of 1700 a Christian protestant version of an ISIS country.
