    Fascinating stuff. If it wasn't for you reacting to this type of content, I certainly doubt that I would seek the clips out myself. So thank you for letting me learn with you.

    Happy May Day btw. I know that the Americans don't celebrate it, but it should still be remembered.

    Maria has a son too with a Prince of Prussia. So the lineage goes on, if its ok the Prussian house no longer rules the same as the Georgian Bagrationi.

    A Royal morganatic marriage is one where the wife cannot use her husbands titles or be a HRH, it has nothing to do with their lower status in life. Catherine is the twice great grand daughter of a mine worker. But on her marriage to William she became Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge, and in time will become HRH The Princess of Wales, and in due course when William succeeds his father after his father's time as King, and William becomes King himself, Catherine will become The Queen Consort as Her Majesty queen Catherine.

    morganatic was a huge deal everywhere
    1936 Edward VIII of england abdicated to be able to marry a non royal women
    he wanted to marry and stay king but the english cabinet rejected that
    there were 3 options:
    Edward and Mrs. Simpson marry and she become queen (a royal marriage);
    Edward and Mrs. Simpson marry, but she not become queen, instead receiving some courtesy title (a morganatic marriage); or
    Abdication for Edward and any potential heirs he might father, allowing him to make any marital decisions without further constitutional implications.
    as 1 was not allowed, and 2 while common in europe also failed he went for nr 3 and abdicated.
    further on the new king george even denied the wife any royal title ... so jaeh morganatic was a huge deal everwhere mate

    Monarchy in Russia had so little support at that point, that these pretenders could be ignored as jokes. Scramble for titles became basically a subject of mockery at home. _"Look at these universally hated guys, thinking they have any legitimacy at all!"_

      You seem to underestimate the amount of Monarchists in Russia. Sure most people don't support them but a sizable portion do and it's sizeable enough to not just call these claimants "clowns" as you seem to indirectly put it.

      @@getass3290 Yeah, the Monarchist Party of Russia has a membership of more than 12 000 people. Sure, it's small but not to the point you can call them a joke. That still didn't include the Russian Orthodox Church that support the Romanov.

    О какой аннексии Грузии шла речь, я так и не понял. На сколько помню по школьной истории, Грузия сама попросила у России защиты от Османской Империи ( в другом случае, им грозило полное истребление. Пример Армении, где турки вырезали огромное количество армян-христиан.Собственно грузины , тоже христиане, в отличии от турок. Собственно религиозное значение в то время имело огромную роль ) И кстати более интересный вопрос о том как неизвестный род Романовых ( если верить историкам, даже не принадлежали к княжескому роду ) стали править в России, потеснив Рюриковичей.

    I'd go for Maria too because she has the most direct lineage to the Tsar.
    In my country (The Netherlands) we dropped the male line rule first after our King William III only had one daughter. From that moment on, the eldest (son or daughter) was the first in line to become King/Queen .
    The non-morganatic rule was dropped fairly recently. This was because our current King was the first who married a 'common' girl. We now feel that love is more important than being of noble birth. Times have changed. 😉

      That would be all well, but the problem is who has the legal authority to make such decisions, in regards to upholding the Pauline laws or abolishing them? No one, because the Empire fell and the USSR (therefore modern Russia as well) denied any legal succession to it. So all of those pretenders are merely LARPing

    Morgamatic marriage is very much a central European thing. Basically the rule is royalty can only marry royalty, nobility can only marry nobility and commoners can only marry other commoners. Unfortunately it was discovered quite early that people didn't work that way. That was when they created the concept of Morgamatic marriage. Basically the children of such a marriage were considered legitimate but were excluded from the line of succession to the title and lands. The wives would normally be given some sort of lesser title and land or income in their own right and the children would inherit that
    It has never been a thing in the UK or, I believe, in the Scandinavian countries. In fact both Queen Mary (Queen Elizabeth's grandmother) and Prince Philip (her husband) were the descendents of morgamatic marriages.

    • @andreathompson7896
      @andreathompson7896 2 роки тому +1

      Wasn't there a similar-ish rule introduced by George III when he didnt like his son George's wife? I know they introduced a rule that the Monarch/privy council had to approve royal marriages or they wouldn't be considered legal. Thus declaring Georges marriage not valid and fixing him up with their choice of bride. Not the same, I know, as there have been multiple examples of monarchs marrying non-royals but a rule born from the same mindset.

    • @wellingboroughanddistrictu3a
      @wellingboroughanddistrictu3a 2 роки тому

      @@andreathompson7896 The Royal Marriages Act 1772 (George II) laid down that no member of the Royal Family could marry without the sovereign's permission so it wasn't something George III suddenly made up.
      It did, however, suit the House of Hanover as the marriage of the heir to the throne to a noble woman or commoner would be declared morgamatic under German rules meaning that the two kingdoms would be split up between different branches of the family. This is what eventually happened of course when Queen Victoria ascended the Throne of the UK but couldn't become Queen of Hanover because no girls allowed.
