Folks this Canada roster is looking STRANGE so far... What are YOUR thoughts on Canada's roster choices? Who do YOU think were the biggest surprises and snubs? Let me know! #GravGang #RoadTo80kSUBS
Crazy how much skill is left off just the 32 man roster. How are Brunicke, Gibson, and Allen in the camp ahead of Yakemchuk and Parekh and then shocked Misa wasn't picked but Martone and McKenna were. Iginla and Sennecke also not making the camp is pretty crazy. I'm not surprised though because Canada always makes weird decisions especially on defense
Because its not an all star team and you defensmen who actually play defense. You already have multiple guys to run a PP and play offensively. You need good defensive D like Gibson to balance it out. He would be a perfect fit with Molendyk.
Also on Greentree Grav the ice size is the same as what OHL plays its standard NHL size since the tournament is in North America and not Europe so ice dimensions wouldnt have been a factor
I think Evan Gardner not getting a look in net is actually insane. he has proven himself as a top goalie in the entire CHL. Being drafted in the second round proves that NHL teams see the readiness and skill set he brings. Personally i would have him here over ivankovic. Ivankovic is amazing but Gardner brings a more experienced look and more calmness in the net.
Watched Gardner play a game last season in Lethbridge. He was one of the more refined 17/18 year olds I've seen in a long time. Consistently square, quick & smooth movement, and lazer-focused puck tracking. He is going to be a very good NHL tender, watch.
As someone who lives in Saskatoon and has the luxury of watching Gardner play I agree. Would’ve loved to have seen him get a look but I’m beyond satisfied as this roster looks dangerous. I think we can be confident knowing the next wave of elite Canadian goalies is in the near future.
The 7:00 mark of the video slightly precedes discussion about the supposed snub of Tij Iginla off the 2025 Canada WJC roster. He's out at least for the rest of this WHL regular season due to injury.
How can Hockey Canada's 2 scouts ignore the draft picks of 32 NHL teams that employ on the averge 5 pro scouts per team? Are we in the IIHF junior Championship tournament to win, or to just ice a team?
My top 3 goalies: 1. Andreyanov 2. Ravensbergen 3. Ivankovic Parekh and Yakemchuk NOT being on the roster and Allen and Akey are is crazy. Schaefer is well deserved given his off-ice situation. As a Jets fan, glad Yager made it. Even though Barlow didn't have a good start to the year, bummer he couldn't make it. I don't think its age, McKenna is 16-years-old and made the team. Its something else...
Michael Hage should be on the roster. But Hockey Canada tries to stay away from NCAA players, as much as it can. Superstars are always welcome though. 👍
As a Canadian there is part of me happy they lost. Dave Cameron had to be the worst choice for coach, why not Gardiner McDougall who has won 9 national college titles, a memorial cup and U18 gold. The selection left off a TON of scoring talent, replaced by grinders, you can have a 1 or 2 of those types, but come on, no Misa, Parekh, Yakemchuk, Sennecke and others.
Yakemchuk is 19 and wont be eligible for the WJC next year so im not sure what the excuse is there especially with the tournament in Ottawa really surprised he didnt at least make the camp just to create more of a buzz for the city. Not like a Canadian city needs more hype for the WJC I guess lol. Easily wouldve been the best option on PP1 as hes automatic on the PP and with hoe he looked against NHL and AHL competition in preseason I really expected to make it and Im also super skeptical on the Yakemchuk pick but hes flearly good enough against top competition for his age group
Drew up a mock forward lineup a couple days ago and it's actually insane. McKenna-Misa-Martone Iginla-Catton-Sennecke Lindstrom-Mcqueen-Hage Spence-luchenko-C. Smicdt Desnoyes
@@Buckwilder-ws1hq Over half of those guys will get cut again next year in favor of role players and grinders. Then when we lose in the quarterfinals again because we can't score I'm sure it'll be another shocker that nobody at Hockey Canada could ever have seen coming.
@@Buckwilder-ws1hq I'd have Kieron Walton there. Depending on how his skating develops of course. But, I think he will continue to be better than this year.
You were proven 100 percent correct in your analysis, expect for CAN being a favourite. Too much politics in selection over the best. The coach was done, but appointment a reward.
I was about to comment "no mention of hage and lardis?" but then those happen to be your 2 'honourable mentions' haha. I do think lardis should have gotten an invite in his 19 year old season. I understood last year but this year there's no excuse. he's a top goalscorer in the whole CHL - was tied for first in goals until I think Misa got one. Misa and Lardis are my 2 biggest snubs IMO.
Any LW who didn't get invited wasn't a snub like lardis Iginla, or misa. There not making the team as there stacked at LW and center. You have a guy leading the CHL in points(McKenna),another leading the CHL in points per game(Cristall) two returning 19 year olds with position flex who are playing well (Cowen, Rehkoph) plus even Riley heidt whos putting up good numbers and plays a good defensive game. There's no room.
@@Buckwilder-ws1hq There was plenty of room for those guys and there's no such thing as too many centers. You take the best players available if you want to win period. This team desperately needed goal scorers and Nick Lardis was right there. Iginla was injured so yeah but there's still a lot of inexcusable roster selections on this team.
Really surprised at Sennecke, Misa, Parekh and Malcolm Spence being left off but Canada is deep with talent right now Even the goaltending is getting better and they have 4 great goalies at camp and another great goalie Josh Ravensbergen was left off.
I am sorry.... But in this instance I totally think the goalies are not too good this year. Carter George with less then a hand full of wins ??? (Golden boy) Id say this isn't right. Take Joey in Windsor who's playing well and NOTHING. as far as the west Goalies I also disagree because Ratzlaff is playing Bad as well. ANOTHER ( Golden boy) really thinks their is favors being given. The other Goalie is Ivankovic and being brought in for experience is totally BS ( Golden boy). There are other Goalies taht are not given a chance even having good Numbers. THIS IS UNFAIR in my opinion. There needs to be a shake up.
Maybe for us Quebecers the way to go it's make our own hockey team ? Québec junior hockey team. We can if we want becaus Québec are a Nation (not a country) but a Nation like for example like Ireland or Scottland and this 2 nations have there teams in FIFA world tournaments. Imagine a game Québec vs Canada in world championship.
Canada is really deep in talent this year so there was going to be some guys squeezed but Yakemchuk and especially Sennecke are somewhat head scratching.
Incredibly bad snub not inviting Yakemchuk when the team that drafted him is hosting. Such bad form. There are so many top juniors NOT invited to camp that Canada could probably fill two rosters and they both would play for the gold. Cheers from Ottawa🍁
Sennecke just had another five point night. There's a chance he may up leading the league in points by the end of the season. The ducks definitely made the right choice...Canada, not so much.
I think one reason why a lot of players weren’t invited to camp is because hockey Canada doesn’t like to take a bunch of players who won’t make the team and take them away from their CHL teams.
Zero logical reason at all as to why you wouldn’t have Parekh and Misa making this team,. There are not 13 forwards better than Misa or 7 d better than Parekh
I’m a sens fan so I’m of course a bit biased on this, but even if you ignore Yak’s obvious offensive talent, would it not be smart to have his physicality present? Also his small experience against men in the preseason showed so much talent. Even if you ignore him, no Parekh is insane too.
Canada just lost to Latvia. This is embarrassing. Canada is going to lose in the quarter finals again. We need a major change with our minor hockey in Canada. The big issue is hockey politics with rich parents paying for their kids with no natural hockey talent to play AAA. Half the guys that play in the OHL are junior A players. It's hard to pick a good roster when you don't have the best players available. Team Canada should be stacked with players like Gavin McKenna.
I can't speak on the goalies not from the dub but I've seen all the goalie in the WHL and Evan Gardner is by far the best goalie in the league IMO. I really have no idea why Team Canada isn't interested in him.
Watched Gardner play a game last season in Lethbridge, last season. He is one of the most refined 17/18 year olds I've seen in a long time. Consistently square, quick & smooth movement, and lazer-focused puck tracking. He is going to be a very good NHL tender, watch.
Canada does what the U.S. does, which is to say put out a team that will compete which may or may not make it to the gold medal or championship game to appease other nations to make things more even. It's insane. The U.S. does this in baseball and it drives me nuts.
I semi understand Yakemchuk and Parekh not being on the team, they're mainly offensive and you need both offense and defense from your dmen, but I don't understand why Misa and Sennecke are off the team

As a Drummondville native, I'm really excited to see that Gauthier made the preliminary roster, but I don't know how I feel about him, do you think he will make the cut and what is gonna be his role in your opinion! He does great in the Q, but I feel that the league is a bit less competitive and should maybe have many more points as a 19 years old. Great vid to get in the WJ mood btw!!
Blackhawks fan here and I don’t watch too much Major juniors up in Canada, however, I do pay attention to our prospects and I was hoping to see Nick Lardis make the team. Oh well though! Any input from the people that watch the OHL a lot? Canada always has so many guys to choose from but I thought he’d get an invite to camp.
This talent pool is so deep this year that it's ridiculous. Don't forget this team could theoretically also have Macklin Celebrini, Zach Benson, and almost inconceivablly, Connor Bedard still. 😂
Being 'nasty' is what lost us the tournament. We needed more talent and goal scoring. Canada needed Nick Lardis there to score some goals! (maybe) HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Sorry, watching this video after Canada loses in the quarter-final yet again. What went wrong?
2024 and people still don't understand these tournaments aren't all star teams. Parekh and yak didn't make cause they give next to nothing defensively. You don't need 5 guys that are offensive D that can score and run a PP. Dickinson can do that as well as Molendyk, Bonk and if Shaefer makes it. A guy like Gibson is a perfect match for a guy like Molendyk for example. Yak or Zayne would not fit with him at all and they need a RHD to play with him. Iginla was not gonna make it with LW like Cowan, Carson, Mckenna and his teammate cristall who's putting up crazy numbers. Even Heidt is a much better 4th line fit. Beckett has a slender frame that hasn't filled out and is a bit of PP merchant. He will be on the team next year with Iginla and lindstrom. Pair a shoot first RW like Nadeu to pair with Mckenna on LW is a great fit. Rehkopf will play with Martone for chemistry plus one of Yager or Richie will likely play RW which only leaves the 4th line spot and beckett doesn't fill that role.
This is BS! I would have had Sennecke, Tij, Parekh, Yak, and Misa all in the team, as I truly believe having a more talented team leads to success, just look at 2015, 2023, 2005… It astounds me how we consider play style so much more than talent.
I don't mind them going heavy on 19 year olds but the problem for me is the 18 year olds they did include on the roster are not the best ones available.
Imagine having a brain and being capable of thinking for yourself and not caving into any and every advertisement you see. I know you can’t big guy but just imagine that, or the concept of it.
Right and DIsney promotes adult themes and Gambling, Internet porn is a click away and now even Pro leagues such as the NFL, MLB, Nba and the NHL do business with ESPN who now is full tilt into gambling with its ESPNbet site; temptation is everywhere. Picking on a small youtuber about the gambling is like complaining to the fish about the sand at the beach. There is no substitute for good, consistent parenting.
I dont have a horse in this race being english but theres some absolutley blatant snubs here. Some terrible calls but of course team canada can absorb this kind of thing. Still have you the faves irrespective of the roster but its confusing more than anything.
Iginla is injured. That wasn't common knowledge when this video was made, but it would absolutely have been known to Team Canada's management (the injury occurred, or became serious enough to warrant medical intervention, in Kelowna's last game on November 30th, just ~36 hours before the 32-man selection camp roster was published, giving them enough time to activate contingency plans and invite someone else). If the injury had turned out to be less serious than it initially seemed, the team could have added him at a later date, but unfortunately, after diagnostic imaging, Iginla was immediately scheduled for hip surgery (which has since taken place), and is not expected to play hockey again until the 2025-26 season. Thus, this was not a snub, nor was it disrespectful. I guarantee he'd have been on the roster if he was healthy - he is easily one of the top 10 U20 Canadian forwards, and everybody knows it. It's a crappy situation, but one that makes sense.
Everyone who actually knows goalie prospects knows ravensbergen isn’t actually the best goalie prospect idc if he goes first off the board. Pyotr andreyanov is the best goalie by far.
Guys, no! Scoring 4 foals in a game shouldnt mean you are on the roster. Not to say he shoukdnt be but that alone doesnt determine a spot. They are building a TEAM not building the best players. Big difference and something Canada has always done. Why is this an issue? Ah yes, clicks and controversy.
Can’t have too much skill on the team, too many cooks in the kitchen has not worked well in the past. Players who play a solid two way game while also putting up offence are how you win championships
Yakemchuk is seriously getting disrespected. First Staios scammed him out of a roster spot even tho he far outperformed expectations in the preseason and now the this....... The Nigerian Prince is skunking him left and right.
If Parekh or misa were in any other country, they would be first line and light us up. I'm sick of seeing canada at all levels, snub these elite talents. They would have even snubbed stutzle. Crosby being left off the horrible olympic team the year he won every award in the nhl . Heck, that year, they left off 12 of the top 20 point getters in the nhl tat the time of tge tournament. and then couldn't score. Makar was limited to PP and was still good enough to be the top defenseman in tge tournament
It's not like these two snubs haven't proven to the hockey world that they can't produce in tournaments. Misa broke mcdavids records to get him exceptional status and they both won the oldest and hardest cup to win in hockey this spring
If only building a complete team meant having guys who can put up points.. +/- do come into play. If you're at 2+ points a game and are barely in the possitive, you're a liability. And any hardworking team with less talent will absolutely destroy you in possession with good defense. Im fine with the roster. Its hard enough to insulate a few top end offensive dynamo's. Can't imagine an entire top 9 Forwards and Top 4 D doing nothing but trying to score lol.

Beckett has a slender frame that hasn't filled out and is a bit of PP merchant. He will be on the team next year with Iginla and lindstrom. Pair a shoot first RW like Nadeu to pair with Mckenna on LW is a great fit. Rehkopf will play with Martone for chemistry plus one of Yager or Richie will likely play RW which only leaves the 4th line spot and beckett doesn't fill that role.
cool to see two people from my hs on this roster lol
Who??
@@Musicmelo14 Pinelli and Schaefer
@ cool did u know them well?
sweden +300 seems a little optimistic.. they are going to show with a heavy group, but its not the depth of canada or usa.
remember: celebrini is still eligible and he wasn't even INVITED
Most likely they asked San Jose and they said no, because Will Smith wasn’t invited to the US camp
@@austincosman2907yeah
This is a selection roster. It does not in any way mean that this is the roster and players can't be added.
I need to know why Cristall could get snubbed. Please make it make sense..
He's there this year thank christ, don't know what else he could do to get the nod!
This is BS! I would have had Sennecke, Tij, Parekh, Yak, and Misa all in the team, as I truly believe having a more talented team leads to success, just look at 2015, 2023, 2005… It astounds me how we consider play style so much more than talent.
And how old is Yakemchuk???
This aged well
Graviteh, are those flies flying around you on that video? Probably time for a bath if so!
Who’s picking the Canada roster I get they take the 19 year olds but don’t they want to win the tournament?
I don't mind them going heavy on 19 year olds but the problem for me is the 18 year olds they did include on the roster are not the best ones available.
There is surprises on the US roster as well. How a guy like Eric Pohlkamp is not even invited to the camp ?
He's aged out.
Hope Brunicke recovers in time for the WJC's.
He's been excellent this year!
Bro has kids watching and advertises gambling... massive W edit: wow so many but hurt over a joke 🤣 keep crying
guys paying the bills adult's watch this as well who cares?
@olvr-5233 i said w didn't i?
@justaverage7629 imagine thinking I was serious 💀
This video has aged greatly seriously wtf is wrong w hockey Canada. I haven’t seen a snubbed list this bad for Canada my entire life
I dont have a horse in this race being english but theres some absolutley blatant snubs here. Some terrible calls but of course team canada can absorb this kind of thing. Still have you the faves irrespective of the roster but its confusing more than anything.
Unfortunately the wjc is a 19 y.o tournament...it sucks bc we re excited for the 17-18 y.o but they re left behind.
Canada should be allowed to put two teams in the tournament. Team A and B. I bet the B team would surprise people.
100%, wouldn’t be surprised if team B would make the semis if not the finals
Why even ice an A or B team when you can simply just cut those guys and send the C team instead? Hockey Canada logic.
Based on this year’s edition nothing short of the A team is required. I have changed my mind. The current selection is definitely not an A team.
You know Tij just had hip surgery right ?
As an amaerican and a wild fan i love it. Usa is better anf heidt made it ❤❤❤😂😂😂😂😂😅😅
Team Canada is going to be a fast, skilled, tough, heavy team.
USA will never be better
Larger ice? They are playing on an NHL sized rink. So really not a European sized rink.
You called it, what a disaster!!!!
Tij Iginla is hurt.
Iginla had surgery and is out for the season.
If the other players were left off they'd be snubs too. It's called tremendous depth. There are good players left off every year,
Let’s all pray that these people have “good” character not like the 2003 and 2018 squads…
Iginla is way better then howe and i like howe disrepctful to iginla
Howe has been playing well for the hitmen since coming over from the regina pats. He got a hat trick in his first game with the hitmen
It's a crappy situation, but one that makes sense.
this is why people who never played hockey with contact probably shouldn’t make hockey content..
Because they are right?
they just got eliminated so you were right
Dude I’m not betting and especially not betting using your code jeez
Rich kids got no Game. Period
If Canada somehow snubs Cristall it just shows how much of a joke they are
Yakemchuk is seriously getting disrespected. First Staios scammed him out of a roster spot even tho he far outperformed expectations in the preseason and now the this....... The Nigerian Prince is skunking him left and right.
I'm not his biggest fan but even I would have had him in a top 6 role, shocking to say the least!
Howe probably only got invited because he got his jaw chattered and required multiple surgeries from his very limited action in the summer showcase.
And yet...
Martone not hard to play againts
It's funny because even with all these braindead omissions, they could still win.
Lch vs usa misa out play martone by a mile
Wowzers. There’s galaxy brain and then there’s this. That is a weak d core. It’s also a very small team. 10+ players under 6’? Yikes.
I'd rather Ivanovic over berg
