Them not picking Logan Thompson is an absolute abysmal Canadian decision. It is clear that politics are playing a role in the selection in some of the players.
@@ricefarmer42069 Too old and slow, that's why. Despite his size (6-3), Carlson isn't particularly good at defending either. He's a PP specialist and USA has plenty of younger, faster players to choose from.
He has had only one good tournament on the men's stage though. So hard to say that he has always been a beast. He has only been to two. In the juniors he was great though.
I'd take Keller over Guentzel, that's for sure. Keller is a far better skater and playmaker. He drives play. Guentzel is rather static. Just hangs out by the net and scores a lot. That said, I'd take Tage Thompson over both of them. How the hell can USA pass on a 6-6 center with 13 goals in 20 games!? Smh...
@@JM-gj7deGuentzel has the playoff pedigree same thing can’t be said for Keller since he hasn’t made the playoffs so you don’t know how he performs under pressure it’s a much safer choice then Keller.
@@zestplays I know exactly how Guentzel performs under pressure. I've been watching him play hockey since his days at Hill-Murray High School. I'm not at all outraged at his selection. I just don't understand how he gets chosen over Keller...a guy with a superb Team USA pedigree, captain of his team and a driver of play. Or, Thompson...a 6-6 monster center with an absolute bomb of a shot. Guentzel has a lot of value. Just see others as having more.
“Eklund maybe more of a skill softer guy” he’s actually improved his two way game a lot. He uses his speed and body positioning very well to win puck battles. He also isn’t afraid to use his body despite being a smaller player. He’s also great on the PK. I feel like people look at his height and the stat sheet and just assume he’s some offense only, small skill guy. He could definitely grind it out on the 4th line wing for this team Sweden roster
I'd take Thompson over Kreider and Trochek. Agreed on Eklund being a big miss. Don't think Hyman or Bedard deserve it. Would definitely have Bouchard or Weegar over Sanheim regardless. Montembeault is a weak choice IMO.
Bouchard is a really good offensive dmen but he don’t gonna have pp time in this team (maybe if he was on the second pp but im not sure that the second pp will have a good toi) and he is not really reletable in the defensive zone In an tournament like that, if you have already a guy that run your pp (Makar) you dont pick a dmen that gonna be pretty bad in the d zone
Trocheck is arguably the best center face-off guy in the league. Plays gritty hockey and is good on both sides. Proven playoff performer. I know he is struggling but he is very valuable.
Cerelli also I know Cooper is the coach but Suz has a better production last year and their production is pretty equal this year In my opinion scheifele is a better option to
John Carlson should be there over Faber he’s been underrated his whole career it’s fried that he got cut, he’s kinda like Petro but with more offence. I’d be furious if I was an American fan
Don't forget it's likely not all players want to participate in this tournament. It's possible some were asked and turned down the offer for the time with their family
Pretty disrespectful not picking a single capital player, they’re at the top of the eastern conference and they have players having really strong season. Strome top 10 in points in the entire league, John Carlson is still an absolute beast, Logan Thompson has better stats/play than all of these Canadian goalies
Sanheim has been good offensively for Philly, he’s an excellent skater, can play both sides, great defensively. I understand that’ll weegar shout but Yh. Horrible seeing some of the sanheim hate on twitter. Parayko is more of a shock than sanheim imo.
To be fair Sanheim is better than parayko and pietrangelo and is similar to Theodore. Sanheim also plays the right side as a left d and is very good at playing the off side. Agree with your Nelson take though dude is a consistent 30 and 30 + guy on an offensive decrepit team
@MikeBartner considering Jokiharju has been played bigger minutes than Hakanpää I figured he'd get the nod, maybe partner with Mikkola to make a decent second pair.
I know a LOT of these guys really want to represent their nation, but I rather NOT have Samheim, Konecny and Risto playing in this. our play style is TOUGH and I rather have the Flyer Make the Playoffs and frustrate some team(s)
Feel like Suzuki still would be a better 4th line C then Cerelli. Maybe I need to watch more tbl but I mean Suzuki would do a lot as a great faceoff taker. Solid shooter and passer. And also very solid for pk. And no this isn't me just saying every Hab deserves a spot. I still think Armia and Monty were probably the 2 worst picks respectfully
Cirelli and Suzuki are both great players that are about the same level. The reason why Cirelli was picked is the chemistry between him and Hagel. Might have the best chemistry in the league tbh.
@@4u2nvHock3y Cirelli has always been better on defence than Suzuki 😂. Also there is the fact that Cirelli is a role player which makes his point amount less. Cirelli has experince on winning and is usually taking the defensive faceoffs. 1st lines are always thrown into the offensive faceoffs and also Suzuki gets more icetime. Cirelli has better tool kit for a tournament like this. I love Suzuki and had him going too. But I too would have chosen Cirelli over him all day every day. And again the Hagel Cirelli chemistry is a huge factor as well.
Because they aren’t, the only thing that brings this close is Canada’s goaltending. Idc where you’re from or what your bias is, any team with Crosby Makar MacKinnon and McDavid is cracked
@matthewschoen3D Far better goaltending obviously but outside of that I think they have much better defence and better forward depth. The forward starpower obviously favours Canada, but it’s not like the US doesn’t have starpower. Matthews - J. Hughes - M. Tkachuk - Q. Hughes as the top 4 players on top of the insane depth they have I’d lean USA for forwards as well Canada is structured better if this was an 82 game NHL regular season, but personally i think people are overvaluing that. I’d rather have 12 all stars than a “gritty fourth line” in a 4 team tournament. The fact that Tage Thompson and Clayton Keller would both easily make team Canada proves that.
As a biased Canadian I think Canada still easily wins this tournament. USA is really strong and Canada’s goaltending scares me but Canada is just gonna want it more especially McDavid because it’s his first best on best tournament playing for Canada and Sid because it might be his last
Also no Capitals players making the team is ridiculous. Logan Thompson, Wilson, Strome, Carlson, and even Chychrun this season all should have gotten consideration. Atleast one should have made it from that group
Fucking absurdly ridiculous? Really? Can you even put together a functioning roster of Russian NHL players with their center situation? They'd get cooked
Team USA players are all top tier 2 talent, nothing spectacular.. other than the goalies. Their best player (Mathews) as well as the goalies disappear when the games get intense and meaningful in the playoffs. The US is a good middling team with potentially great goalies. Whereas Canada is a great team throughout with middling goaltenders and a couple of middle level defensemen.

Vlasic over hanifin

Brodin as an extra is INSANE! He is one of if not the best shutdown defensemen in the NHL.
Agreed! The Sweds might have the best defense imo
Eklund and zetterlund should be on Sweden and I want to know how much montembault paid to get onto team Canada

Biggest snubs were Weegar, Eklund, and both Thompsons. Everyone else you can argue both for and against.
1000% agreed!
John Carlson was also snubbed he’s having a great year
Like Logan Thompson is LITTERALY the best goalie Canada has right now. Crazy how they didn't choose him

NO Capitals bro thats so dumb. Wilson, Strome, Calrson, AND Thompson all deserved to be on at least one team.
Tom wilson💀
@pipoj5 he was about point per game and playing top tier defense lol.
I think Adam lowry really should've atleast been the 13th forward. Defensively incredible considering the goalie situation.
