  • Motown 25: The Performance That Changed Everything
Almost Forty years ago, Michael Jackson took the stage and made an indelible impact on pop culture with his solo performance on Motown 25: Yesterday, Today, Forever, a televised celebration of the famous label’s creation. About halfway through the special, Michael Jackson reunited with his brothers on stage to perform a medley of some old Jackson 5 songs. His brothers then left the stage, leaving him solo in his sparkling jacket. Michael then addressed the audience briefly, dramatically introducing his solo performance to Billie Jean. He showcased a level of talent that shocked many people, and the performance was highly influential and is still recognized as a great moment in music history.

It's 2024 and I'm still waiting for someone, anyone, on the level of MJ. I honestly think it will never happen. Michael didn't break the internet, he broke the planet open. We all witness the perfection of the art.

I recall this vividly; my mother, a HUGE James Brown fan who didn't really give any other music act the props she gave to Brown, exclaimed, "They're [Jackson 5 with Randy] good!" The next day in high school, everyone was excited about Michael Jackson's performance; I always liked Jackson from his variety show ("The Jacksons"), but this performance, along with the three videos from the "Thriller" album, and the "Thriller" album itself, cemented Jackson as my favorite singer BY FAR. Marvelous memories!

My memories of the 80s and Michael's music his videos the pandemonium! Those memories will always be cherished forever! I was sad because I never got to see him live in concerts but it's okay! That's what video footage is for! It's not the same thing as being there at a concert! No way! He was uniquely talented and sweet! I was very attracted to his sweet voice and his sexy smile! He was The King of Pop to me because no other artist will ever do the amazing success in music the way Michael did it!! Noone!! Ever!🎵🎤🎵🎤🎶🎤😍❤️

I hate when people were saying that Beyonce's Homecoming performance was better than MJ's Motown 25 performance. BOTH artists were amazing with their respective performances.
However, MJ just had himself, a fedora and a mic while Beyonce had a whole band, dancers, theatrics, etc. MJ had to sell his performance with the only things that could be considered 'glitz and glamour' being his glove, jacket, shirt and socks!
On top of that, people underestimate the humongous global impact of this performance. For probably the first time ever, you had non-blacks idolizing a black performer! People of all races, genders, etc. wanted to dress like MJ, move like MJ, sing like MJ...they'll never be another one like him!

They need to get off of that male bovine fecal matter; Beyonce will NEVER come close to the force that was called Michael Jackson.
