Glad to have found your channel subbed. Awesome sounds you are getting , especially through the strat and JCM 800....which isn't a combo I really think of. Also I notice you are tilting the amp , that is something I'm going to try doing.
Thanks for the sub! I always tilt my amp (except I don't in this week's video for the first time in years) as I've realised that when using in-ears it's not as crucial!
Great playing there, TJ, and excellent sounds from that Marshall! I owned a Marshall 50W head and 4x12" cab in the early '80s. It sounded good, but weighed a ton and took up space. I sold it and bought a tiny Sessionette 75 combo, which was excellent, and I gigged that for years. Then I bought a Fender BDR, which is fantastic, and more recently a 1989 Peavey Bandit, and a 1999 Laney VC30 II. These are just great amps. The Peavey, in particular, is good for gigging because I get no "valve anxiety" and it sounds nearly as good as the Fender. My usual setting involves just the clean channel, with a massive "almost clean" boost from a Boss Blues Driver, and the overall volume/overdrive managed from the guitar's controls.
Happy new year mate! Your playing/tones and your voice plus the band mix in a live environment sounded gr8,and all recorded on my phone! Amazing sound! Thanks for the mention 👍🏻 😊
My kid is 22, built him a few amps now so was interested in what it was. My kid mostly plays a JCM800, also a Matchless for Jazz stuff. Old Marshall's are kinda awesome, super versatile, great harmonics so one doesn't need reverb. Good Choice.
Wow....must be great to be able to build your own amps....i built one from a kit once (i didn't mention that one in the video) sounds ok but I didn't really know what i was doing!
@@iamtjwalker I went to school for Electrical Engineering, tubes and audio are kinda strange to me but I read the valve wizard book which is awesome. I use a min-cnc machine to build my boards, doing a Princeton right now. Kits are good starts.
Yeah! Actually it was my first valve amp....i had a Peavey practice amp and a Peavey Bandit first. It wasn't a massively expensive amp when it was new, somewhere around £300 I think I paid. I remember my 2nd hand Peavey Bandit was about £150! But it took a long time to save up enough from paper rounds and Saturday jobs to afford it!!
Very cool! That Free Falin solo sounded very John Mayer like! My first amp was the Peavy Bandit. The 4210 was my first Marshall combo, bought in '83 - traded it in for a Peavy Triumph combo, for some reason! I also had a GK 250!
I never liked 1x12 combos and preferred 2x12 or 2x10 for more bottom end. The only 1x12 I tried which did have bottom end was a Brunetti Maranello, and I think it had a special speaker in it. Often when I get plugged into an amp in a shop, checking guitars, if it sounds mostly middley, it's usually a 1x, so I try an find a 2x even if it's a 2x8. I also think the 1x designers deliberately shelve the bass so the appear to sound louder, by pushing most energy in the mid range, which also helps a smaller power supply to sound louder. I've even tried 2x amps where the tone controls shelve the bass, especially on the dirt channel, so don't sound good with extended range guitars. Some Vox and Blackstar amps had this, although models change over time. The Blackstar was ok with an OD pedal through the clean channel.
There is more bottom end when I use the closed back matching cabinet. I think it depends on genre.....I was worried about he same thing myself before I took it out on a gig again as it sounded like it needed more bottom end when playing through it on my own at home so I used an EQ pedal to boost the bottom end (which worked surprisingly well!!).....but once I was playing with the band I turned it off as I didn't seem to need it!! I guess I'm used to 1x12 though.....if you're used to something else it may be lacking!
I've been using it loads since I got it back out again....i use it almost daily at home.....I can't believe it but it's working perfectly. My much newer hand wired Fenders nearly always go wrong when I don't use them for a little while....usually the reverb....but this Marshall seem fine!
It's a never ending Quest chasing tone is like chasing a Dragon 🐲 Just find one good sound and don't change it. The modern Amp industry is like a carousel 🎠 of promise's that burst like kiddies Bubbles before you can appreciate them. Go back to minimal Gear ⚙️. Have Fun 😊
That's the sound my friend i will try to find one great playing thanks for making this video

Wow! You are a great player and singer! First time seeing your channel!
Thank you so much! Thanks for watching!
It was my first amp, too. Thank you for the inspiration. You sounded fantastic.
Awesome! Thank you!
Hard to beat that tone and those chops !!
Thank you!!
Great video tom. Showing actual use in a live format. Puts it in perspective.
Thanks! I think the live vids really help!
The amp sounded great. I really enjoyed what I seen and heard 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks!
I played through one once at a guitar store where it was only in for repairs, not for sale. It was absolutely amazing and such a perfect tone machine.
also, love your playing and really nice voice too.
Thank you!
I'm really enjoying it!

I think the half stack is too big for me too! I'd love to try a Peavey Bandit again....like the one I had in the 80s!
Brilliant Mate , Marshall your resources ... while ye can !
Ha yes! Thanks

Thanks for filming!
Nice playing…
Many thanks!!

Killer solo in Kiss, love it 👍
Thank you!
Your first amp? Lucky you!

Sounds great TJ! Happy New Year m8.
Thanks, you too!

I've still got two original Peavey bandits , fantastic amps !
I must get the GK mended!

Great playing. Good tone - but - and this comes to you finally after decades of swapping gear - it's all in a confident and controlled touch
I definitely know more than I knew then! Whether it's better or not I'm not sure!!
Done similar , still got two bandits , excellent amps actually 80 watts. Ive just gone back to the Blackstar HT 60 soloist 1x12 , cracking amp
I'd love to play through a bandit again!
So you settled on the pignose amp...
Good choice...they have a plug into the wall nowadays...Yup Marshall stacks are where its at.
JCM 800 combo is one of the best I've ever played through
I thought for years it wasn't any good....how wrong I was!
Watch the Justin Ostrander video on the deluxe reverb, you will be amazed
Will do!
If the amp is that old, have it checked by a good technician. It will most likely need a re-cap and some general checking.

Cool! What speaker do you have in it?
Just the one it came with
