Ok so now I’m hooked on you Berbiglia. This was such an open conversation. Creativity and love are intertwined and humor is a way to get at both! Thank you! ❤❤❤
Wow, Elizabeth is one of my favorites writers, I read all of her books and I'm Ukrainian. I completely missed this whole story with the book and I have such mixed feelings about it. I've been thinking recently why there are no new books coming out and also listening to her explaining the situation made me love her even more. I still don't know what to think of this book situation
I love her take on not being in partnership... so refreshing and real. See... greed can be good! Thank you Mike & Elizabeth for a delightful, wish it wouldn't end conversation!
Oh my goodness; yet another great conversation on the show! I taught Ms. Gilbert’s book when I was a university writing professor and I love this long-form verbal essay between you two. Thank you both for having “the courage to create,” as Rollo May wrote.
I still think it was a very odd decision, and most of the movement against it from "Ukrainians" was actually from online bots overtaking sites like Goodreads. I don't think she should have caved to any of that.
@@apartmentgroup9671 I agree. It most likely was a campaign by Russia to make Ukrainians look bad. Russia is a huge driver of “cancel culture” because they know it makes people angry in the West, and it’s easy to do because of the internet. I mean, it just is so classically Russian tactics. An author writes a book that makes the USSR look bad, but somehow Ukrainians, who do not have dreams of reviving the USSR like Russia, are the ones who wanted the book to not be published? You can’t get anymore Kremlin propaganda than that!
I agree with you, and even if it were true, I'm sure many Russians would want to be heard, too, who may be proud to hear of their beautiful country being the backdrop in Liz's book. Let's have the book.@@apartmentgroup9671
So cool ! I love your podcast and I love her, read all her books. Love her novels, loved the books she wrote before Eat Pray Love, her creativity essay was so delightful to read… Excited about this collaboration. I’m a self-love coach, I have spiritual experiences on a daily basis and tons of practices in my toolbox and yet I was blown away by her Letters from love daily practice, and so moved by her art when she read it. The presence of a higher energy was palpable. I love artists, I love beauty.
Loved this podcast. I am a huge fan of Liz Gilbert. Whenever I need a hit of inspiration I listen to Big Magic. BTW, IMHO, the CNN ticker tape line is a sweet tag. Working it out!
So good to hear this today! I look forward to Mike’s letter from love and writing my own because it’s an excellent idea! Very nourishing episode. Thank you!
Love you Liz, you changed my mind in so many ways. You're were there in my first divorce and now you still there on my way finding my true self. Thank you so much❤❤❤❤❤❤
This is a deeply satisfying interview! It feels more like two wonderful people who are friends enjoying a conversation. I’m delighted I found it for many reasons, including the pearls of wisdom shared throughout. Re acclaim and criticism of one’s work, I loved what the fantastic character and designer Cynthia Rowley said, something like “I decided a long time ago, don’t let anything make you and don’t let anything break you.” ❤
I found a copy of “Eat, Pray, Love” in Jamaica and read it in a day or two. I never understood the hate for it. I thought it was great. I re-read huge chunks of it recently. This is the first time I’ve ever heard Liz speak. Very interesting. Good talk, Mike.
It's so refreshing when an author, especially one who wasn't prepared for the internet, weathers the toxicity that comes with modern high-end notoriety with such even temper. She has a rare constitution. The goal is for a book like Eat Prey Love to reach 100% of its target audience. But this kind of stratospheric popularity shoves the material into literally everyone's face, no matter how inappropriate the match. So People automatically infer that, if it's in their face, it must be for them. And since it isn't, they assume it's just a bad book, and everyone who likes it is stupid. The greatest book about bird watching in history will be boring to someone who has no interest in birds. And if the whole world is shouting about how great this birdwatching book is, and everyone should read it, a lot of non-birders are going to wonder what the hell people are so excited about. That's apart from the tendency of certain people who automatically assume that if anything isn't made specifically for them and their tastes, it has no worth at all. But really, it's their opinion that's worthless.
Liz and Taylor Swift should talk lol. I agree on not feeling the need to finish a book but I powered through a book on Annapurna and it became epic the second half, I was so glad I hung in.
I love letters from love. Good question, Mike, who did it beat and how could they have improved? But they’re the wrong questions. They’re totally understandable questions from a comic, but they’re ego driven. And the letters are ego-less A better way to put it, is that it’s binary. The good ones are the ones where the person fell away and love came through unveiled And to describe the other side of that spectrum, when they’re bad (and it’s not like one is bad and one is good) it’s because you wrote too long. Liz says put a 5 minute limit so the ego doesn’t come in (when you write too long) DISCLAIMER: I should qualify my statement above by saying when I wrote “ego” I really meant “personality”. I meant it neutrally
@@JSees That isn't it at all. She wrote a whole essay about it. She always struggled with her hair and got tired of dealing with it and people thinking she had to have blonde, done-up hair in order to be considered "pretty." So she shaved it off and felt total freedom from those constraints. It has nothing to do with being a lesbian, lol.
Made a career belly-aching about not being loved in the right way -- married a man who adored her then left him for her dying best friend. So delightfully messy.

I had an audible gasp when I saw this in my queue ❤🎉
Two of my faves who are both also two of my fave creative/writing advice-givers. What a gem this podcast is.
What a beautiful human. I loved the book.

Never saw this channel or host before but I was in love with this interview in the first 2 minutes, so I subscribed
Thank you for having Liz on your show!! I miss her presence on social media ❤. She is so calming and reassuring to listen to.I just loved her energy.
Gem gem gem from beginning to end
This is one of the best discussions period about what the body and soul of WRITER means. YES!!!! And thank you!!!

So glad someone finally asked Liz about pulling The Snow Forest last year. Really enjoyed hearing more about that decision.

Beautiful episode. That's a good leap.
OMG I am thrilled for this collaboration! I have no time to listen right now and I cannot wait for a spare moment later today! 💛
The joy is in the journey.

I just love so much Liz ❤ greetings from Mexico!

By Far one of the most delightful conversations I’ve Ever watched…like 4 times (so far). ❤️
I think Liz crocheted that sweater herself, and I love it. Great chat. :)
I believe it is a knitted sweater...🙂

You missed when the book became a best seller and she was on "Oprah" and on every talk show known to America? :)
@ I actually did, because I wasn’t the audience. I don’t watch daytime television.
God damn I love her soo much.
Great conversation and Liz has the most soothing voice.
I just love you guys. That's all. Would listen to a million hours of this.
Wow Mike this is a tipping point for you and your podcast. Congrats!
I love this pod so much ❤❤❤
Eat pray love is my inspiration of my life. I’m planning to study in Italy next year. 😊
This is just lovely.
I don’t have the right to the fruits of the labor, I only have the right to the labor! So true!
Wept with listening the letter from LOVE.
I am motivated to do the same. ❤

Love this!
Amazing episode!!
What a great mashup!
*excellent* conversation
❤❤❤❤❤ Thank you Mam!
Podcast first, movie second, now take As for me to give too All.❤
I wonder when was the last time she spoke to Eustice Conway? That book got me into her work.
Yes! Alone is best!! Especially if you are female, the expectations on us are too much 😊❤
I haven’t read her book but she seems wise and cool
Wow, what a surprise, thanks guys 🎉

Great bear joke.
Did she tell the same airport story twice? Or was the first time in the promo?
Wow
I wonder whether the somewhat chaotic studio causes them to both folder their arms? Something that hardly ever happens on podcast of this nature
❤💚💚💙💙💙🩵
Has she been ill? Why is her head shaved? Always have been a big fan but haven't heard this news, if there was any.
i heard from another podcast that she wanted to shave it for a long time but only found the courage to do so recently
She wrote about shaving her head to feel free from beauty expectations. She's not ill.
@@apartmentgroup9671 Glad to hear it!
She went full on lesbian look since her current female partner had cancer so that probably motivated her new look.
