  • Hot off her new Netflix special Crushing It, Fortune Feimster sits down with Mike Birbiglia for a candid chat about telling personal stories on stage, dealing with audience complaints, and Fortune’s coming out journey. Fortune also explains her dynamic with her Handsome podcast co-hosts Tig Notaro and Mae Martin, and she and Mike discuss why fancy doorbells and ice crushing machines are symbols of wealth.

    Thanks to this podcast I learned about the Handsome podcast, and I'm so looking forward to the episode with Fortune's mum. I already like Mike's show because I get to learn about my favorite queer comedians beyond their stage persona (Hannah Gatsby, Matteo Lane, Fortune Feimster). When Fortune shared about her grandma I felt for her; because what I know about her grandma is the jokes about being in the car with Grandma and dog, and now it felt like I saw the human behind the craft. This was so cool. Also I love the Slow Down, I'm down for taking your time with the last questions.

    I relate to Fortune’s way of living and dealing with that really specific loss. I was the same age, they waited for me to finish college, and then the nightly committee started meeting (anxiety and insomnia). It’s been over a decade now, and I am also having a hard to time relating to that person before the death. I’m not sad, not angry, just different and trying my best. I also don’t like delving into it, but fortune, I would read that book. Hell I’d write it with you!

    My daughter recently told me she thought she was in a rich house if they had Kleenex instead of just using toilet paper to blow your nose lmao...I told her I Did buy it occasionally if On sale as it was not necessary whereas toilet paper has many uses lol

    Mike, here's a suggestion: *ask* your daughter what she thinks/believes when questions about G_d and/or the afterlife come up. None of us are blank slates when we're born (and some of us are filled up whole pages and know it), but the point is not to give answer but to encourage a dialogue that continues throughout her life. I knew a lot of facts, like that Max Planck knew what he was talking about when he said consciousness is everywhere, when I was born because I remembered being pure consciousness before then. Sp even though I have the same info this world-reknown physicist had, there was no one for me to share my spiritual journey with in this society. And it's been quite a journey. *Everyone's* is. Make a point of leaving the conversational door open, and if you find you need support, try a Unitarian-Universalist church. The quest is what matters. ❤

  • @raymbanger
    @raymbanger Місяць тому +10

    Why does it always have to be theists vs atheists? Both of those belief systems think they have the answers. Agnostics embrace the notion that maybe we don't know, and that's fine.

    • @MsNatiBug
      @MsNatiBug Місяць тому +1

      The belief in god should be based on FAITH. Not in thinking you KNOW there’s a god.
      If we knew for sure, that wouldn’t be a belief.
      Like I don’t BELIEVE my phone number is what it is. I know that.
      I BELIEVE in god. I might be wrong, ultimately. But I believe.

    • @raymbanger
      @raymbanger Місяць тому

      @@MsNatiBug Semantics. You didn't address the question. You just affirmed your own belief, which is typically arrogant. Thank goodness you used capital letters so I'd know you were serious.
