      I was fortunate enough to witness his greatness. With Walton's passing I thought back to 86 against Houston. An aging Walton and Bird playing together was the best two man game I ever witnessed.

      I watched the left hand game in Portland at the Coliseum. It was amazing for a little kid to see his favorite player just roast that blazer team and they were talented.

      @themeparkamusement2214 That's where you're wrong Mr. Amusement! Larry Bird made 3 NBA All-Defensive Teams. You don't do that without any defensive talent. Plus, Bird's defense was never flashy, but he got the job done. He was great at disrupting the flow of the offense which would lead to turnovers on the other team.

    He doesn't talk a lot of what he did, but those of us who saw him play knows HE IS THE MAN. He lets his plays do the talking and when he was done, he didn't say a lot about his playing days unless he was asked or was provoked. Classy guy, generous with his compliments and praise for his teammates and opponents. A real treasure.

    Larry was bound to be loved in Indiana, and Boston. However he became loved by all. He respects the game, and his people. One of the biggest things that earned him a lot more respect, and love was how he hamdled the Magic Johnson HIV diagnosis. He never turned his back on him. A man of respect

      One of my best moves ever= buying a season ticket to Celtics for Larry’s first year. Ticket cost per game $6. Kept this ticket until Larry’s retirement. Love watching replays on You Tube. Never gets old. Now ticket prices $150. Sorry Tatum and Brown you guys are good but not the same as Bird, McHale, Parrish, Walton etc

    Very cool for there to be a museum for Larry Bird. I’m a lifelong Lakers fan who had an understandable let’s say severe dislike for Bird in the 80’s, but like any real basketball fan I have always had nothing but respect for him as a man and a player. Congratulations Larry on a well deserved honor.

    My husband was a huge Larry Bird fan. Every televised game he was there watching it. Unbeknownst to me he was teaching our 15 mth old son the starting lineup. He called me in the room and started asking my son "Where is Larry Bird, Where is Dennis Johnson, Kevin McHale etc. One by one my son went up to the tv and accurately pointed to each player. We are all Celtic fans and are hoping they bring home the championship trophy. Larry Bird, you gave my family great memories in front of that tv set cheering you on every game. Thank you for what you did for the game and the legacy you left behind.

      Another story, sorry. When Larry Bird speaks of his son and his friends playing with and ultimately destroying his prized basketball,brings back a memory of my brother who was a big Roberto Clemente fan.He received a signed ball by him from my uncle who use to go to spring training in Florida where he resided. So one day they went to the field where they would just play pick up games and he brought along his signed ball because they had no ball to play with. Long story short, someone hit the ball into the woods never to be found. That was one day, his family and friends would never let him forget.

      The lakers/ Celtics mid-80s rivalry was the best in sports history. If the Celtics team wasn't the best team in NBA history then it had to be the Lakers. Both teams would sweep the top NBA teams of today playing the man d. Of the 80s or the wnba d. Of today. If they played with today's panzy d. Rules the Lakers/Celtics would win with scores like 180-140. Playing with the prideful d. Of the 80s they would win with scores of 120-80 as today's players would foul out crying and throwing tantrums

    Larry always speaks about other people with respect - that's striking! Listening to Larry answering questions, sharing his thoughts on something you can right away say that he is a humble, decent and wise guy. And genuine. As one of his former teammates (Robert Parish, as far as I remember) said, Larry never put a blame on his teammates when something went wrong and never bullied and humiliated them. That's what you call class.

      @jfr1907 Місяць тому +1

      @@written12 To be top 4 you have to have the killer mentality and results, Bird did.. LeBron does not. Jordan the Goat, but Rushmore is Jordan, Kobe, Bird and soon when he gets a couple rings and at least hits 30, then Luka... All are killers, then after them you sort of hover with Lebron and Hakeem and then sprinkle in Magic, Shaq, Duncan, Kareem and then you get your top ten all time. Duncan and Magic are fluid and there are a few others that can be argued to move them out.

    I would have loved for that team to have won more championships, too. That 1986 Celtic team was magic on a basketball court. Best single season team I ever saw.

    Flying charter to only 20 away games, mostly in the Midwest or East Coast, contact Linn Dunn and tell her you're ready, lol .. I'm serious.

    I don't care what the talking heads try to say. This man is the greatest small forward to ever play the game. And one of the top 3 best players of all-time.

    I was lucky enough to see him play up close live at the H.H.H. Metrodome the first year of the T-Wolves. The Wolves set the NBA attendance record that year.

      Larry mentioned John Havlicek. I was lucky enough to see him live too against the Lakers at the Forum in L.A. in 1976.
