After the death of his teenage brother Andy, multi-millionaire Matt Trakker uncovers an international criminal organization known as V.E.N.O.M. I absolutely LOVE the way that every voice actor's performance sounds SO disinterested. "Meh, man your battle stations". It just makes it such gold. God, I LOVE this show so much
Yeah. That's one pet-peeve I have with the show; the actors don't sound like they take their roles seriously. I know this is 1985. But still, you'd think the actors would be more serious about their roles.
This show was just copying what made Transformers so successful: catch kid's attention with a TV show and sell toys that match the show. I don't have many memories of watching the show but my friends I all had several toys. They all transformed exactly as shown in the show, which makes me think the toys were probably designed first then they would be depicted in the show.
The voice actors were just settling in to their roles. The quality gets better later . This is only the second or third episode
The background music in this and many other 80's cartoons were just brilliant.
People knew when it was getting serious with the music - (awesome).

I am currently watching this episode of M.A.S.K right now, I totally agree with the fact that this episode should have been made into a movie because of the animation style, the voices, the fact that the command center inside M.A.S.K headquarters was bigger, the entire M.A.S.K team was assembled, and finally that Matt was piloting Rhino and not Thunderhawk.

We used to watch this show on wednesday afternoons and than play the episode with our Mask toycars and characters. I still own Rhino in mint condition....

Wow, the villains don't care about possible earthquake deaths. Great rescue.
And that action in the end. Also, the practical life lesson epilogue is nice. Good ep.

One way of making the cartoon last longer plys as a kid I'd have prob been reeling off all the names with them lol

I do like Alex Sector (whose occupation’s a pet shop owner); as much as fans regret the disappearance of the MASK computer selecting team members, in the racing season, I thought of what Ali Bombay’s occupation could be - a Reverend (yes, similar to Alex Sector having his own pet shop, Ali Bombay could have his own Parish, in India). LOL! similar to the animals Alex Sector always had to leave, when his smartwatch radio sounded, imagine all the people Ali Bombay would have to leave, who went to his Parish, when *his* smartwatch radio sounded.
Oh man....I loved watching this on Saturday mornings! I never had any of the toys though. :(
It’s funny how the cartoon always tries to stress that every character will just stop whatever they’re doing the moment they hear their watch beeping.

You'd think that an "international criminal organization" would consist of more than four people and three vehicles. I know there were more of V.E.N.O.M. in the toy line.
That's one reason I liked to root for VENOM... they were outnumbered... the underdogs! (Also VENOM is a cool acronym, but MASK is retarded)
And they're not vicious
There only *were* four members of VENOM, at this point (my two favourites are Miles Mayhem and Sly Rax). Anyone like Miles Mayhem’s *Buzzard* outfit (which he wore in season 2 - the racing season), or (which he never wore in the cartoon) his VENOM’s Revenge gear? (although I bet, had there been a season 3, that’s exactly the outfit he’d have worn, where he’d always be getting by on a jetpack - exactly what ‘VENOM’s Revenge’ was) Before anyone asks, no, there’s never been *footage* of this cancelled season 3 - it’s just been mentioned.
Mr. Spenson, the old man who lives at Clear Lake, is clearly aware of the MASK team's secret identities after having seen Matt decked out in his Rhino uniform.
Dude is definitely on the payroll. That fishing cabin probably turns into a launch pad for a space plane.

Everytime I look at that truck, I can't help but to think of Optimus Prime. Ironically, this show came out in the same decade as Transformers and GI Joe. But it wasn't until 2007 when Optimus Prime's truck mode closely resembled the vehicle that Matt Trakker drives.

Not really sure why stupid kids were necessary in the 80's. Spike from Transformers? Scott from MASK? Wesley from Star Trek? Eliminating these characters would have made the stories much better... then and now.
There's a reason GI Joe didn't have stupid kids always getting into trouble, I just don't know why everyone else didn't figure it out.
But then we'd have no T-Bob.
There was Penny in Inspector Gadget. She was an electrical engineering prodigy and infiltration expert!
Cute kid sidekick was a big 80s trope. MASK had basically every 80s cartoon trope from that to female villain in love with one of the male heroes to villains have a new take over the world plan each episode and the means to try and accomplish it among others.

With Matt there seems like there is only 4 cars in this episode, but there is usually 5 when Matt is driving Thunderhawk.

I had such a crush on him when I was a kid. I got Thunderhawk with the Matt Trakker action figure for Christmas, too. I would be really sad because I knew that he was a cartoon and I'd never meet him. I'm 47 now and I still get nostalgic about it.

My god, MASK is a real cartoon! It was really produced and broadcast on real TV in the real 1980s! And all this time I thought the opening theme was a modern caricature of how productions were supposed to look and sound like in the 1980s! This is like finding a lost VCR tape of Candle Cove, or Shazaam with Sinbad!

9:02 I don't mean to be picky. But even as a kid in the 80s, I always knew that nobody says "What the thunder". You always hear people say "What the heck", or something along those lines. But nobody says "What the thunder".
You can't even say it's a Thundercats reference because they came out the same year, also in afternoon syndication. But, the others had a habit of answers Bruce's riddles with some clever variation of "What?" This one was probably the weirdest reply.
Yeah, I always wondered by Bruce always spoke in riddles. Can't he speak clear English?
MDthornton83 Doug Stone was a pure genius creating that part of Bruce's character. Matt(also voiced by Stone) always understood what Bruce meant and the two seemed to work seamlessly together and that made him probably one of the team's most valued members.
they have remade he-man twice thundercats once gi joe twice the trans formers 7 times voltron two times the turtles once I ask when will we see a remake of this gem of a show.
austin warner Turtles have been re made three times actually if you count the live action series. He man was remade once since the other he man was actually a continuation. I only know of GI Joe and Gi Joe renegades. Lets see, Transformers G-1. G-2 doesn't count cause it was the same series. Beast Era, which technically is a continuation of G-1, Robots in Disguise, The Unicron Trilogy, Transformers Animated, Rescue Bots, and Prime. Those are just the ones released in the states. The computer animates voltron was a joke, and was supposed to be a continuation, as was Voltron Force. There was Voltron vehicles, and Lions which were actually part of the same series. There is absolutely NO REASON to re-release Gem. But a new M.A.S.K. would be awesome. I wouldn't mind a silver-hawks release.

I noticed in the first episodes of m.a.s.k that Miles was a cool headed leader who very seldom insulted his crew. By the end he was acting like a spoiled brat and he took credit for others ideas and threw out insults with every breath.

nor did Buddy. Too many people and not enough need for anyone other than Matt to speak too much for the heroes. The villains at least tend to split the lines more.

Matt tracker has a different mask than the last episode.
I noticed the same thing but what actually happen is he started out in his Rhino Suit then he changed into his Thunderhawk suit. Matt is the only agent who has more then two mask as he will be seen riding in Volcano Van as well as Thunderhawk and Rhino. This episode looks like he will actually be driving Rhino and Thunderhawk will not be used at all. Look at Gloria Baker she has her own car but she is riding with Dusty.
Yeah I think he has three, depending on the vehicle he's in. They're all called Spectrum, but look different. The screen pair in Thunderhawk, the goggled in this episode in Rhino and the other, I can't recall what they look like atm in Volcanovan as Jared saide

The dialogue and the humor always makes me think of the Ninja Turtles original cartoon..but M.A.S.K. lacked the character development. Fun show, though.

I remember a comic where he had the ability to duplicate himself, where all three outfits could now co-exist - you know what that would mean, for MASK!

It seemed a trend to have annoying and/or useless sidekicks in the 80's cartoons Oon in Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors*, Uni in Dungeons and Dragons, Snarf in Thundercats, Orko in He-Man*, Kowl in She-Ra*, the Orangutan in Centurions etc etc
