I salute you for what you achieved as a 1 pip 20 year old. I served in 86 long after you not in the same unit but I saw the same leadership from 19, 20, 21 year old which amazed me. We were really good as youngsters and understood the consequences if we did not perform. It is true what you said about navigating which I also loved and understood due to me as as a youngster teaching myself on how to work with a compass.

1:10:05 Amazing, remarkable story❗ If this was the trainee, (though fully trained) imagine what a 20 episode series with one WR would be like ⁉️

    Howzit. Thanks for this video.
Did Zac do camps with 32 as well? It would be nice to know about that experience too.
These recollections have got to be recorded for posterity. So much happened that troops even from that time don't know about.
Time and crime are robbing us of our history here in South Africa 🇿🇦.
I was only 7 when Zac klaared in, and I did my service in 89/90 when things had quietened down on the Border.

Hello all!! Mr. Garratt, what are the chances of putting together training courses and instructors to teach these skills to our youngsters and some old ones who never did go to the border!! Our youngsters today are such warriors on their cell phones and games ..... they are absolutely clueless on how to survive if circumstances were to change in this country. I worked and trained in hospitals while you did your border duty.... if I were put into a 'border' situation I would seriously not know what to do! There are so many like me out there who would love to learn on how to survive. You and your fellow soldiers have such a wealth of knowledge, and it needs to be put out there! I am speaking on behalf of me and many other women out there whose men folk have passed on .... who, should something happen to our country would be able to help and/or protect and/or fight back and survive on what is out there! I think, at the moment, we women would be the victims rather than assets..... and I, for one, do not like that idea one bit!
