Hi Andre - Andre du Toit here. Great to hear from you. We were together at Infantry School and 6SAI. I was in C-Company. We did the funeral of Daantjie Deyzel together. Myself and Kelly Gliddon resigned in 1982 and joined the Port Elizabeth Municipality in their Security Department.
Thanks for the memories Andre, I had the honour of serving with Danie in Delta CO. In 1981 on two OPS's, the most memorable was Cahama where my stopper group chopper was shot down on our way into position. Great people and great times. Regards and best wishes. Chunky.
One of the saddest days in the late history in Southern Africa was the day at Pomfrett with the disbanding of 32. To this day 32 could have been the most successful peacekeeping force in the whole of Africa. Just the fact that 32 would be brought in as peacekeepers would have stopped 80% if not more conflicts in its tracks and the whole of Africa would have been a better place without a single Un so called peacekeeper on the ground. There was and is still many discussions about this, sadly, water under the bridge and those responsible is also in their graves and hopefully in Hell.
Hi guys, these are great stories, but I think you should also interact with Black Angolan soldiers who were involved in 32Bn...that will be great most of them are now in Pretoria, Bloemfontein etc...
I am jealous of 32's esprit de corps. I thought the SADF troops would work together, but mostly, it was not so. One morning on guard duty in Tempe, we saw the Parabats going for a run with their colonel leading them. Us Armoured troops were impressed. I earned my skiet balkie with damn hood shooting with School of Armour, but when I asked if I would get the badge, I was told we were not fokken infantry. I realized then that I did not count, that my leadership had no respect for their troops. I was on JL's at the time and suffering from bad shin splints, too, so I decided to get off that course. I really wanted my Army experience to be positive and to learn something valuable, but it was not to be. I eventually found satisfaction when I volunteered to join the 2nd Battalion, Transvaal Scottish, in 1994.
@counterpoint751 I was on JLs at School of Armour, but shinsplints wrecked my fitness. Either way, I was enjoying the leadership training when the Parabats came around for keuring... selection.

Was initially confused as there was a well known Rhodesian Selous Scout also called Andre Rabie who was sadly KIA. Respect meneer.
I wondered if they were perhaps related.

You should have tried to join the Battalion. Even so, respect to you as an ex-SADF soldier.
