Modification of Parkside PMSG 200 A1 MIG/MAG/MMA welder | Part 1 - Cables and Choke

  • In this part you will see: Replacement of all internal power cables with 25 mm2 copper conductors and addition of an extra choke for higher inductance. I also made a new 25 mm2 Cu ground cable with a 200A clamp.
    After modification the welder welds more smoothly. Because of the extra choke, it fires better when spotting lower currents and sizzles less.
    The aluminium cables inside the welder are approximately 1 m long and have five connections with poor quality thin flat crimp connectors. There is a voltage drop across them.
    I make all modifications so that they can be returned to their original state.
    To replace the internal cables: About 1 - 1,2 m of 25 mm2 welding cable, 2 pieces of crimp cable eye ring terminal 25/6mm and 3 pieces of crimp cable eye ring terminal 25/8mm. If you also want to add a choke, then you can use a 13uH, 180 A choke like FERYSTER DEHF-42/0.012/180.
    To make the ground wire: 3m (or as required) of 25 mm2 welding wire, a welding clamp with a good quality copper jaw (200A or 350A), and a 10/25 cable welding terminal.

      When running gasless welding wire - connect the Earth to positive and Torch to negative, otherwise known as "DC electrode negative", or "straight polarity". (This is the opposite to standard MIG welding with gas, which is torch/wire positive and earth negative).

      @@weldphd Thanks for your reply. Yes I did the electrode negative thing yet there still is too much splatter compared to welding sets costing a mere 50 to 100 more. The gas option is very good yet I find that 40 W minimum is too high for anything less than 2mm

    These modifications cost me about 45 Euros. The welder cost me 158 Euros, which is 203 Euros in total. For 200 there is nothing else that welds better. All welders that weld naturally better cost twice that price. In doing so, even some welders for 380 - 480 Euros have aluminum wires and aluminum grounding cables and less good pliers in them. In any case, the investment has paid off.

      The Parkside stripping tool is a good tool, although not as good as my old JOKARI No15 stripping tool. It has a suitable blade height and cuts through the insulation on 25 mm2 cable without damaging the conductors.

    The welder will be an inverter type? I am almost sure that a choke should only be fitter to a transformer (old buzz box) type welder. calculations are made so that the choke matches up with transformer. . I hope that choke does not damage yours as it works at a very high frequency. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

    • @Tech-3D
      @Tech-3D  2 роки тому +1

      Chokes are commonly used on inverter welding machines. Some more expensive MIG/MAG welders have electronically adjustable chokes. Don't worry, the welder will certainly not get damaged because of the choke, as the one output choke is already there from the factory :-)

    • @Tech-3D
      @Tech-3D  2 роки тому +1

      Hey. It is best to solder the choke, it is designed for that and has tin coated winding ends. The connectors are unusable, due to the high currents that flow in the circuit. It is still possible to fix the cable to the choke by drilling holes in the winding cubes for an M3 - M4 screw and tightening it with a screw joint.
      The welding torch is ok, just replace some better quality tip there.
      The 10-25 quick couplers are standard, copper, nothing special.

      This is all true, but it relates to heavy use of the welder. I use the welder mostly without a fan and have not managed to overheat it yet. When it overheats, the indicator light comes on and shuts off. It has its own thermal protection. When I'm not using it at full power but only at 40 - 60 amps, or when spotting, or clamping the structure before welding, or when I'm doing short welds with breaks, I don't need the fan to run constantly and suck dust. I can just turn it off, and not even feel the welder heat up. When I'm welding at 130 amps and long welds, I'll add the fan speed.

      @@Tech-3D sorry, not a very good argument. Overheated electronisch will break much earlier than cooled ones. Does the fan irritatie you? Replace it by a silent one with the same capacity. Overheated electronics can be dangerous. Maybe you use it in a safe way, your viewers might not. Your project is a nice solution as a fanregulator, but a warning is adviced. Keep up the good work!

    • @Tech-3D
      @Tech-3D  2 роки тому

      @@HanD_1964 In the case of the Parkside welder, I disagree. The point is that the load capacity quoted by the manufacturer is understated, in practice there is no overheating when used according to the load table. Another factor is that the thermal protection value is on the low side and does not even reach the semiconductor operating temperature limits.
      Another factor is that if you were to closely examine the parameters of the fan used, you would find that there is no fan available that has the same static air pressure and the same air flow with less noise. There are only a few Panasonic fan models with the same parameters as the mounted noisy fan but their price is worth a third of the price of the welder.
      If the welder were to break down sooner, that is not a problem because it would have to break down before the 3 year warranty period. In practice, however, Parkside welders break down to a manufacturing defect in the semiconductors or Mosfets, or to a short circuit rather than overheating. However, this is exactly the opposite of the case with Parkside power tools, which suffer from overheating of the windings of the stator motors and rotors in angle grinders.

      @HanD_1964 2 роки тому +1

      @@Tech-3D Ok, we disagree. The best way is to inform Parkside and advice them to use low noise fans like other brands do.
      What about the responsability to your viewers?
      Maybe an idea to build an automatic speed regulator as a fine compromis.

    • @Tech-3D
      @Tech-3D  2 роки тому

      @@HanD_1964 Automatic fan speed control is not a compromise. Automatic temperature control means disconnecting all connectors from the motherboard, removing the motherboard, drilling a hole in the heatsink, installing the thermistor - temperature sensor and controller.
      Basically, I have no problem to rebuild even this PWM controller for temperature based control in a few minutes. But all this means LOSS OF WARRANTY.
      All modifications to the welder, in case of failure quickly, I did as easily reversible and quickly putting it in its original state, without interference to the electronics. It's just an idea, it's not a guide or a recommendation. Whoever wants to, do it their own way, maybe with temperature control or replace the fan or leave it that way.

    Parádně kvalitní videa, musím hlavně pochválit kvalitu osvětlení a obrazu. Střih bych trochu zkrátil, např nepotřebuji vidět kazdé krimpování očka. Šlo by ještě udělat video jak svářečku používat v režimu MIG? Vím jen, že budu potřebovat CO2 bombu, ale zbytek je pro mě tabu.

    • @Tech-3D

      Ďakujem. Osvetlenie je vlastnej výroby, z môjho prvého videa ua-cam.com/video/PXN5Z1EWXVk/v-deo.html, a som s ním veľmi spokojný.
      Ďakujem Ti aj za pripomienku k strihu, máš pravdu, beriem, nabudúce to zlepším.
      Čo sa týka zvárania MIG/MAG, zatiaľ nemám v pláne k tomu robiť video, pretože takých videí sú stovky. V podstate na zváranie s inertným plynom alebo aktívnym plynom potrebuješ vhodný drôt a vhodný plyn. Plyn volíš podľa zváraného materiálu, buď CO2, mix Argónu a CO2 alebo čistý Argón. Okrem tlakovej fľaše potrebuješ ešte redukčný ventil a plynovú hadičku do zváračky.
      A ďalej čo sa týka zvárania tak postupuješ štandardne. Nastavíš na zváračke nejaký vhodný prúd podľa hrúbky materiálu, ako štartovaciu hodnotu, zváračka podľa synergie nastaví nejakú hodnotu napätia, na redukčnom ventile nastavíš prietok plynu na hodnotu 8 - 10 l/s a začneš zvárať. Podľa správania sa zvaru a aj podľa zvuku zvárania upravíš prúd (zváračka tým de facto zmení rýchlosť podávania drôtu) a potom to ešte jemne doladíš zmenou napätia. Nejde to naučiť sa to za hodinu ale treba to skúšať, meniť a hlavne získať zručnosť v rukách. Ale ako som psal, na internete sú skvelé videá o tom.

      Máš pravdu ale video nie je návodom. Ani mi o to nešlo. Zverejňujem len svoje nápady a riešenia prevedení. Ten, kto chce, môže sa inšpirovať ale spôsob prevedenia si zvolí podľa seba. Môže použiť iný regulátor, nemusí použiť PWM reguláciu ale napäťovú reguláciu, môže si to umiestniť na úplne iné miesto alebo si vymení ventilátor za ventilátor s nižším prietokom alebo ventilátor tichší.
      Ak niekto nemá 3D tlačiareň alebo si nevie navrhnúť montáž na regulátor v 3D programe, použije nejakú hotovú prístrojovú škatuľku.
      Dá sa to urobiť všetko aj inak a určite aj lepšie, ak by sa zváračka rozobrala viac. Nevadí mi viac rozobrať zváračku ale všetky úpravy som robil s cieľom minimálneho zásahu do zariadenia tak, aby všetky úpravy boli vratné a v prípade poruchy zváračka neprišla o trojročnú záruku kvôli zásahom do nej. Niekomu na tom nezáleží a kľudne ju celú rozpitvá, poprestrihuje káble, stočí ich a olepí páskou. Takže ide len o inšpiráciu a ukážku práce.

      Конечно, нет. Обычный сварочный аппарат, который сваривает так же хорошо, стоит как минимум вдвое дороже. К тому же, я бы не получал от него такого удовольствия, потому что не смог бы настроить его под себя, что мне нравится.
      Я купил сварочный аппарат на распродаже за 158 евро, модификации и кабели обошлись мне в 45 евро. За цену обычного сварочного аппарата, которая составляет около 400 евро, я получил баллон с аргоновой смесью, редукционный клапан, шланг и сварочный колпак True Color. Кроме того, даже некоторые сварочные аппараты ценой 450 евро имеют алюминиевые кабели и некачественные сварочные клещи.
      Это идеальный сварочный аппарат за небольшие деньги с гарантией 3 года.
